    👍 Great marathon session, especially for a first go. 3 hours, wow - you must have either a strong bladder, or a hidden bucket under the desk 😂. Terrific content, capably presented, w/nose blow breaks, too. I don’t understand your BBF/snap focus issue, though. I have the G3, set up back button focus, and removed AF from shutter, but was still able to invoke “Long Press Snap Focus” - haven’t tried BBF with snap alone, but would the combo of BBF and Long Press Focus meet your needs. Look forward to your posts.

    Thanks for confirming that Olympus LI-90B/LI-92B and 3rd-party batteries are compatible with the Ricoh DB-110 battery used in the GR III. An external charger and two LI-90B batteries can be bought on eBay for about $18. The Ricoh DB-110 retails for $39.95 each. So people can save a lot of money by using 3rd-party compatible batteries.

    Hi Lin,
    Great video. I am new to the GR and so after watching this video several times and trying to set up my Ricoh I was confused as to how you set up your U1,U2, and U3. I’m trying to do the same on my GR 2. It just seems easier for me and made sense as to what you said. Using Back button focusing seems easier. I am just wondering what you other settings were in each user setting. Like your aperture shutter speed etc. could you elaborate? Also maybe your flash settings in U3. Thank you

    Samuel, I always find your videos so helpful and inspirational (and fun!). I watched this entire video 4 months ago and got a lot out of it. Now I'm trying to install the 1.20 Firmware update and have been frustrated in my attempts and I don't recall if you cover it in this video and I don't have 3 + hours to watch it over again to discover that maybe it was not covered. If you or anyone else have any insights I would be most grateful. I have downloaded the Firmware update and placed it on a formatted SD card. Each time I insert the SD card into the GRIII and start the camera while holding down the Menu button (per the instructions on the Ricoh web site) the normal window appears and not the "firmware update' screen as is supposed to happen. Any ideas on why I keep getting stuck on this step. Sorry to be a nuisance. Thank you in advance for considering this question.

      @SamuelStreetlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw the videos about it and checked on mine. Mine does wobble a little bit too. I read that all GR III's dial pad wobble a little bit. It can be because of the construction of the pad. But mine does not wobble as hard as some of the videos I saw. So I am not worried. All buttons and dials are working. I remember on my 5D Mark II the OK Button in the middle of the dial pad was moving with the dial too. It was never a problem.

      @SamuelStreetlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the wobbly dial? The poor battery life? What else? Overheating? None of these are issues for me. And not everyone has these issues. I addressed the battery life many times. My GRIII gets a little warm but never hot. And I found out about the wobbly dial issue after making this video. But from what I heard it's just how the construction is. Many other GRIII users have no problems.

    • @AlexZafer
      @AlexZafer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SamuelStreetlife There is a whole lot to like about the GRIII. Lens appears sharper rendering better detail. The upgraded sensor is nice for cropping. The colour science is better compared to the GRII. The monochrome options are better in GRIII. Noise control is very good. Top it off with IBIS and this is a brilliant take everywhere pocketable camera. The wobbly dial is not such a big deal to me. I played with a demo model a couple of days ago and it was barely noticeable. Battery life I can deal with - and will carry a spare or two. Built in flash I can live without. I think my main issue is the heating. I know the GRIII gets a little warm, but in some, not all, but in some cases I have seen and read users saying it has overheated to the point that the camera gives a heat warning and shuts down. I've seen videos and pictures of this in a couple of forums. This is a major flaw. I live in an area where it gets very hot in the summer. As a serious street shooter, I would be extremely pissed off that a camera would suddenly get hot enough during my street session that it shuts down as I was about to take my decisive shot. I want to know I can depend on its operation. Is it a battery issue? Is it the IBIS that's creating heating? Is it because people are spending too much time with the camera ON and going through the menus, or processing RAW in camera that it overheats? To me, if you are paying a premium, I would NOT expect such a thing to happen. So, collectively, with all the small little flaws counted up, it appears that Ricoh is suffering from a quality control issue in this first batch of cameras coming off the line. There is no doubt there. This does not exactly instil a lot of confidence as a street photographer. I am sitting on the fence here. I want this camera, on paper it is exactly what I have been looking for... but that it is a lot of money... too much if it does not live up to real world expectations of a hard core street shooter. I trust your honest opinions, Samuel. I hope you will give us another longer form review after you've used the camera for more time. I would also love to know your opinion of the GRIII vs. Fuji X100F. I'm now leaning back towards the x100f -- even though it is not pocketable. I love your videos. Keep making them.

    The Ricoh is a masterpiece in design and given that it is lacking in so many features -- it to me is an absolute failure and continues to be a huge disappointment. Your video is well done but to me, the GR is such a magnificent platform with such amazing potential it hurts me to accept that Ricoh fails in equipping it with all the features that would make it the extraordinary camera it yearns to be.
