On December 15 I had a grocery store greeter (A KAREN) who I had never seen before refuse me entry into a local grocery store 3.2 miles away from my house with my ebike for purchasing groceries. I had been doing this for nearly 2 years. So I contacted the Company under ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act} and sent them a message about me being a 65 year old property.home owner with heart disease and COPD as well as mobility issues with a disabled permit. The company representative gave me a phone call on December 20th 2023 and said that I was allowed in their stores to shop with my electric bike using it just like a grocery cart with a front basket in front. The representative told me the Store Managers name and that he had been contacted and they gave me a case number. So it was a small civil rights victory for me
I have a three wheel trike. My only issue about leaving my bike out front is someone thrashing it or cutting the chain and making off with it.
I've wondered about doing the exact same thing with my ebike. If I outfitted it with baskets and took it in the store with me would I be allowed to shop with it? It seems like it'd take up about the same space as a motorized shopping cart that they have to ride, so why not? I'm a legally disabled amputewe as well. I ride a two wheeler ebike but have wondered about buying an electric trike as well. To me, one of those is way better than a mobility scooter.

@@Thomas-yr9ln Yes I have talked to another grocery store customer and he said that his bike was stolen right in the bike rack. That's why I take my ebike in with me right into the store and use it just like a shopping cart. If the bike was too large I probably couldn't do it but it's a small fold able open step bike (a Lectric XP Step Thru (1.0) model). One of my friends recently gave me a small 20 pound expensive new 26 inch wheel BMX bike (Race Inc (RA26-R model)). So I will be using that one as well. It has no electric assist motor but it is very light in weight and I don't have far to travel. I might have to walk it up a couple of hills a short distance.

I started a deep dive into my lab reports in the middle of the previous November (2022) after my cardiologist told me that I was at the highest dose possible for my CVD meds and there was nothing more he could do. It turned out that not only did I have high blood pressure but my a1c was 6.0 which was on the verge of pre-diabetes. This was alarming to me because my MD had never mentioned it.
I did a lot of research into nutrition and in May decided to make a lifestyle change to a low carb, high fat diet. On top of that, I also threw in Intermittent Fasting. By August I had lost 48 pounds, my a1c was at 5.7 and my BP went from 155/70 to 118/70. I was off all my meds and now my a1c is 5.4.
Russ, don't wait to get tested. Not knowing will only delay the start to your recovery. Sooner is better. A LCHF diet starts with only eating whole foods and eliminating junk food and all seed oils. The rest will follow naturally.
You handled it better than I’m likely to have. Best case I’d either be quiet and ride on or do a John McLaughlin style “Wrong!!”, but it could go worse depending on my mood. I’ve never had anybody say anything, hopefully they never do. Most people like the EUC and ask about it if I’m stopped or in a store. It’s weird people mouth off about something they aren’t prepared to do anything about. Happy holidays.

I've had a few know-nothings yell at me (always from a distance ) that my E-bike is illegal/forbidden. I simply reply 'call the sheriff'. It pisses them off and puts the onus back on them.
I rode on Christmas Eve as well! It was fun. I haven’t encountered any opposition to my bike yet. I am glad you are feeling better.
My Dr. monitored my a1 c for 20 years. When I started medications I had no symptoms. I do have side effects from medications. After I started daily riding my ebike I was able to stop 1 medication. My a1 c is under 7 with 2 meds and daily exercise. Also took off 35 lbs. result of increased exercise and better control of my sugar level.
eBike rules are fairly complicated, as some types of eBikes may be excluded from bike paths. Usually Class 1 and Class 2 eBikes are fine on most bike paths, but Class 3 may be excluded. Depends on local laws. There may be other rules like Class 3 have to wear helmets and must be over 16 yo, or if you ride on a bike path you MUST be pedaling, no throttle.
I'd love if we could get a nationwide acceptance of Class 1 and 2 bikes for shared use paths, particularly paved ones. Then any bike could be ridden with little more than a governor.

Clearly “Ken” was illegally running in the wrong lane, criticizing in an area where he was clearly in the wrong. Interesting how culpable folks seem to attempt to find wrong in others, ignoring their own indiscretion(s). Got a Heybike Horizon a couple weeks ago, and this 80-year old is happy to obey the current California laws with a perfectly legal e-bike. Unfortunately, there are many many illegal bikes locally, some people persist in riding illegally-fast on trails and streets, Sacramento is currently considering and (if past restrictive legislative behavior is any indication) will soon be passing further constraints. It may be that in the not-too-distant future that out here-Ken might be right.
I have yet to see anyone riding an illegal ebike illegally. I didn't know there were such things. I do know that speeders come in all shapes sizes and types though and we will never be rid of that issue whether it's on the streets, sidewalks, waterways, parking lots etc.

It isn't necessarily your voice, although I think you would do fine in talk radio. I listen to it all day long and there are some people that have annoying voices. It's what you talk about and HOW you talk about it that matters. You are interesting to listen to. I know what you mean about how some reporters talk. It's just not natural, people don't use emphasis in their speech in every day life like these reporters do. It can get pretty irritating. But, yeah, you would do fine in radio, Russ!

looks wet but not as wet as we are. It has been pouring rain on Christmas day and today. I never found my charger so I ordered another one. you can check your blood glucose in the morning before you eat if it's above 100 then you need to have doctor check your A1C. I hope you don't have it. I hope you can have some more days to ride. enjoy listening to you even if your not on the radio. I would miss seeing your part of the country if you were on the radio.
Forget the ebikes for a minute and focus on your health. You have a lot of symptoms that already point to you having diabetes (age, ethnic background, thirst, frequent urination). Modern treatments for type 2 diabetes are all pretty good at managing your blood sugars. So what are you waiting for, make an appointment with your doc and get it checked out.

I don't think there is a "radio voice" nowadays. From what I hear channel surfing sometimes, there are a lot of people on the air that have apparently not been through puberty yet. The days of the Walter Cronkite style of broadcasting are long gone.

Male Karens (Kens) are uninformed, entitled and just a$$......they're everywhere, great you responded. I've been pre-diabetic for 10+ years, my A1C is 6 recently, so now so I've eliminated most sugars in my diet and will take a blood test next year fingers crossed. Hopefully your symptoms will subside as you watch what you eat and reduce your sugar intake. Yes you do have a radio voice as you're easy to listen to. I've been told the same (voiceovers etc) and left it at that. Stay safe from the Kens Russ🤣
I never realized how many people actually hate ebikes until I got my own and started paying attention to the discourse about it. You will have people actually say an ebike shouldn't be on the sidewalks, streets, paths, anywhere. You are an actual bad person making people unsafe if you use an ebike by making it more dangerous for pedestrians and traffic. It's a crazy argument when you have vehicles out there causing more harm than ebikes by a very large margin. it's just they think ebikes are unnecessary wile vehicles are necessary. I have tried to explain that people will break laws. Like cars shouldn't be banned becasue some people speed or drink and drive. No, ebikes just shouldn't exist apparently shrug.

Oh, on the man who called out to you, he just does not like sharing the path. I do not ride any shared paths so have not encountered that. I have been called a cheater about 3 times.
It is one reason I prefer just riding on streets. Then all I get for comments are, “That’s cheating!”

@@RussIsRight - I'm planning on riding tomorrow and New Year's day, but probably no more than 12 miles. I often wear a 3/4 helmet with a full face shield, and the last few rides I had problems with fogging, especially in the rain. Installed the fog shield tonight, so that should help, and I plan on using one of my less powerful batteries to give my favorite batteries a rest. I don't need all that power in this weather anyways, lol.

@RussIsRight ...I forgot....some people do gain weight back. Some dont...they are still doing research and studies. Drugs have been around for years for diabetes...but not long enough for weight loss to draw any "scientific" conclusions.
So, watching this video I noticed the headlight is mounted on the Deer's basket. I just got a Deer a week ago with a large basket. The mount point for a light is vertical where as the light attachment point is crosswise. Special attachment or bend to fit?

I remove the bracket from the light and then mount the light directly to the bracket. Yeah , their mounting on the basket makes no sense. It works if you do as I just said. Take out the bracket on the light and then mount directly on the basket.
Yes, it is allowed here. But be careful that may be changing very quickly. We are looking at regulations that are changing and being enacted right now. It’s not really good for most normal E bikers. Also I hear you on the washroom. Yeah that’s about all I can say on that. Good luck with finding a resolution for it.
Caused by those nut jobs with their modded "e-bikes" that sometimes can go as fast as motorcycles, they ride carelessly, breaking all traffic laws and even taking over streets or riding irresponsibly on sidewalks, putting pedestrians in danger. There are even YT channels dedicated to such behavior

If you're testing for diabetes 2 don't do the normal fasting blood sugar test, go for the one where you fast then take a bottle of glucose, then they test you 2 hours after that. It's a lot more accurate

by law an ebike is NOT a vehicle. it a bicycle as long as it has working pedals that can propel the bike without motor assistance. Though how the bike looks really factors in on how people think about ebikes. for example something that looks like a moped with the flat wide long seat, dirt bike style suspension etc isn't going to pass as well as say my Philodo H8, which looks and is basically a mountain bike with hub motors,

I assume that interpretation also applies to those unlocked to 28 miles speed limit. Bike companies and associates may not always tell you the truth. but lets be cautious ourselves and don’t ruin a good thing we are having.

But what about pedal powered bikes moving faster than 15 mph? More like 20 or even higher, depending on the ability of the rider. Besides how are they gonna know if its a class 2 or 3 e bike. They all have throttles. Only class 1 do not.

Excellent point and glad you pointed this out. I have the same exact symptoms as my prostate is enlarged, very common for people my age (67). I always make the park with the public restroom as part of my route🤣Russ is old too and is part of this lustrous group😂

It’s not the bike that’s illegal, it’s where they are used. Pedal assist, it’s an e-bike, is there a throttle? If there is it’s an electric motorcycle and is subject to laws concerning motorcycles. Courts are just starting to figure this out.

I hope you get to feeling better, I too have had a recent illness that had all the symptoms of Covid, I still don't know for sure because by the time I finally got my test kits(12 days later) in the mail I was better. I like your video but you ran at least 25 STOP signs and that makes for a bad impression in the minds of the motoring public, maybe you just don't like stopping for a clear road, but if your ever in an accident where the other driver is at fault and contending you in court, these videos of this behavior might lose you your case, just a heads up. I too ride an e-trike and I stop at every sign and signal, I wear bright colored clothing and use my headlight and tail light even on sunny days, make safety a hobby and enjoy every minute with less worry. P.S. Google unusual weight loss and thirst, you might have long covid or something else.
