Would you believe that there is STILL, as of March 2018, one surviving member of this scene? Nehemiah Persoff, who plays the accountant (exactly 49 dollars and seven cents!), is still kicking.
Thanks for the info. Just seen this movie for the first time. Interesting to read due to health concerns back in 1985, he slowed down and took up painting. Seems to have worked out well for him has he turned a 100 a couple months ago.
THanks for posting. A much-overlooked performance of Bogart's.. Also, Budd Schulberg (who wrote this movie) just died last week. This was at least as good as his "On The Waterfront" script.
It's fascinating that Bogart was dying of cancer making this film. I sure the part when he was told that Toro was to be paid $49.07 for the fight didn't make it easy........lol.
Based on the rise and destruction of Primo Carnera by Max Baer, who decked him 11 times in their bout in June of 1934, the oldest full recording of a sports broadcast I know of. If anything, Graham McNamee's blow-by-blow may have been more exciting than the actual event. McNamee never spared the horses when he broadcast.
supporting actors back then were better than the, leading actors of today
Even sick with cancer Bogie turns in a great performance.
Greatest boxing movie ever. You had Steiger Bogart, Max baer Joe wallcott. What a movie. The greatest boxing movie ever.
Probably the most powerful scene in the movie...and Bogart pulls it off smoothly even with the cancer...
*sigh* My Momma was a "Newspaper Reporter" in this film...God Bless "atmosphere"! So great to find this film on line today!

Bogie was clearly frail and very ill,but is as charismatic and brilliant as ever here, along with Steiger.
Two entirely different acting styles that work together
Im a lawyer and I find the wit and intelligence displayed here almost intimidating! Such incisive delivery and presence from both Bogart and Steiger.
A simply awesome movie, did not expect to see any clips of it on youtube.

Bogey's last great sence.
I'm aware of that. It's just sad to see him in such disrepair.

BOGART! BOGART! BOGART!

Great movie ,exposed how the mob ruled boxing.
Still does.
BOGIE is great....but without ROD STEIGER in this scene....the scene would NOT have worked.
Car dealer accounting on pay day.
If Raging Bull was the best boxing movie , this is the second . For some reason , I prefer The Harder They Fall
Good Lord. Bogie DOES look like a wreck....
It's a good movie. Check it out if you get the chance.
I just finished watching this on TCM. Great film, but Bogart looks very ill. Cancer is a horrible disease.
noen som har sett den?
