    The "continue" bug came about because of the servers shutting down, there is a community fix for it, it's as simple as copy pasting a file. You should have done that.

Seeing a chill documentary that’s also funny is really refreshing for Alot of us and I think if you stick within the car games you will grow fast, and then branch out more. The best thing about prostreet is the atmosphere it offers. The music in combination with the unique tracks, the little cutscenes, the "event character" of the races.
    I have been in amateur racing IRL for years, and as dumb as it sounds, yes, need for speed pro street isn't to far off in terms of realism of those events. Just listen to the guy talking on stage, while you are in your menu.
    Also: The Cars they selected are just SPOT ON. There has never been a racing game at the time, who had such a nice selection of all iconic cars.

    When this game came out, I was pretty much the only one between my friends that loved it for what it was. None of my friends didn't like the "no cops" thing but I thought it was a great change of pace for what we got in Carbon and MW prior to that. I also loved the game for introducing us the "new" Nissan GTR at the time with the GTR Proto reveal trailer which was pretty bad ass. Definitely one of the best NFS out there and bring modern games to shame.

Door to door circuit, classic 1/4 AND 1/2 mile drag, even Autobahn style runs and drifting. I can honestly say this games pushed me to spend the thousands I have tuning my del sol si today. Best of the series.

      Yeah I did enjoy parts of Shift and Shift 2, particularly the drifting, but ProStreet was just enjoyable as a whole. If you've never tried the original Juiced I'd recommend checking it out, also had the same sort of closed street racing thing. And there was SRS that was a sort of in between where you had proper closed off races, but you got to freeroam the streets to get to events aswell as some street racing challenges.

    I've actually figured out that for drift events, your score multiplier is based on your CURRENT GEAR more than your drift angle, so you want to have your gear as high as reasonably possible to increase your score multiplier in your drifts. However, you need to be considerate that using a higher gear makes the car handle more stiffly in turns, so you have to balance your current gear and car handling accordingly.

    One thing I loved was that npc drivers had character development like changing cars over time or upgrading their ride, they even have some personality if you pay attention, I can't tell if it's all on purpose or just reusing assets but you can certainly put together a untold, unproven story of some drivers winning a car from someone else in pinkslips or something similar to make up for the fact that some cars change owners. As I previously said some appear to have personality like frank book being a total glass cannon with his uncontrollable challenger which actually performs really well if it happens to get a nice unscripted run in the quarter-mile which is really rare, or like how Joe Tackett despite his crappy civic he is determined to survive, or Ivan tarkovsky (is that how its spelled?) "the crazy russian" as mentioned by the announcer/dj which is definitely true having a maxed out Evo that is usually on top and uses rubber banding rather often (sometimes rather hilariously causing crashes) he also has multiple different evos or atleast different liveries and tunes

    15:50 Even though the Forza Horizon games don’t have stories either, for some reason the developers and writers still put a bit of effort into the writing. Even when a game does not have a story, that little bit of effort goes quite a ways toward making the few NPCs feel like characters. The lack of such effort in NFS Pro Street is so jarring while watching this review. It’s been 15 years since I played the game so I’d forgotten how terrible the writing was.

    • @mitchelldiedrich
      @mitchelldiedrich  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Honestly, I feel like I can *almost* see what they were going for - the characters in Most Wanted and Carbon were pretty over the top, and they wanted to continue that. The problem is that Ryo's only character trait to amplify is his insecurity, and his reaction is aloofness, which just comes off as shitty writing (which, really, it is). I agree, Forza does a much better job at this.

    • @Piketom1
      @Piketom1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mitchelldiedrich Agreed. The writing in Pro Street and Ryo in particular was both terrible and lazy. I really like the fact that the prior games didn't try to take themselves seriously and really leaned into the corniness of the characters. It was part of the charm.

    a side note thats a year to late - the continue game bug can be worked around through a mod patch "widescreen fix" since it tackles more then just widescreen fixes. it also tackles this issue and nullifies it- the main reason why the bug exists is actually a Compatability issue rather then a game issue. the game was originally designed for W7 and if you play it on W10 or W11 this bug somehow comes into existence

    Here's a Sector Shootout tip: When you are coming up on the end of a sector, and you know you will comfortably smash the current score, slow down, try to win the sector but with ~30 points less than you you know you could have gotten, then on the next lap, allow yourself to go faster, beat your own record again, rinse and repeat. If you can do it every lap of the race, you will gain 600 or 800 points per sector more than if you just go all out from the start and fail to best your first lap performance. Have fun getting some silly numbers on the board

    I get why people who played UG/UG2/MW '05/Carbon would not like ProStreet, but for me, an 8-yr old who just got their first home console (it was a Wii, lol), this game was my everything. When my Wii eventually stopped reading discs, I managed to score a cheap PC copy of ProStreet. After I installed a couple of QoL mods (the Generic Fix, one making the AI much more competitive, full controller support with controller button prompts, giving the McLaren F1 its engine sound back lol, etc.) the game on PC was a blast of fresh air compared to what I had on Wii (which was essentially identical to the PS2 release).
    Now I have a frankly-unhealthy habit of comparing every newer racing game I have to this game. It captures the feeling of "built not bought" and "well shit, I spent all my money on new suspension parts so I guess I'm having instant ramen for breakfast" so well. Having to pay for damages, deciding which performance part to splurge on, having to redo certain race days to earn money while also risking paying for more damages, etc.; it was a good balance of everything IMO. Don't even get me started on the soundtrack; I could go on for days.
    The only other racing game that comes to mind was Forza Horizon 1 and 3, where you start out as a nobody and work your way up to basically running the place. It's not as nitty-gritty as ProStreet, but a hell of a lot more streamlined. Nothing will ever replace ProStreet tho for me; it's truly one of my all-time favorite games.
