It makes me so happy seeing this game get the good attention it so lacked for years. I bough this game as a kid and didn't like how it wasn't like the previous nfs games, but once I grew up and accepted it for what it was, it became probably my favorite racing game of all time next to horizon 2. I've probably beat this game ATLEAST 15 times lmao. So much replayability
Same here, we finally have patches for the continue bug (which made playing on Win 10 basically impossible), a fix for the 30fps lock, a fix for the DLC cars not having prices, etc.
I remember going to the store and buying this game and the clerk giggled when he saw me put it on the counter. He called his buddy over and was like “Yo, look what this kid is buying.” Told me if I liked NFS this one might not be for me. Holy shit was he ever more wrong because this probably became one of my favorites in the series hands down. The vibe is absolutely unmatched. And the tuning was so fun to do. Idk i loved running the track a ton to dial in my car *super* tight. Used to spend HOURS just tuning. Made a 6sec drag ‘69 charger when I was a kid and was super proud of myself.
I must mention that the continue bug is fixed if you patch Pro Street to v1.1, and then run Xanvier's Multifix. The bug is because the game tries to phone home to EA's servers, which were shut down ages ago.
There's also other pretty important mods that help provide QoL enhancements like the DLC unlockers, Extra Options, HD Reflections, and Tank Unslapper (removes input delay). EDIT: Also the mods that fix DLC cars since several of them have broken body kits.
I love that they took a break of the cops and illegal street racing and went towards a track day event game. It reminds me of grid life or race wars from the fast and the furious specially cause of the soundtrack rave music they have
Yeah you guys would def know what cool is. 😂 Agreed, running from cops LAME. I’m tryna cruise in the Silvia and drift to that rave ****. Who the hell wants to run from cops all day? Like how dumb. It’s crazy they were able to sell these games. And like make their money back. 😂 To each his own.
The game is as old as me and its always been my favorite. The soundtrack, sense of speed, gameplay, story, and just about everything about it is just amazing.
13:31 encountered the ''continue button problem'' myself, apparently this happens because EA shut down servers for prostreet multiplayer... There are multiple fixes available online, Xanvier's NFS ProStreet MultiFix for example. As a bonus it uncaps the FPS! So to conclude, you basically wasted your money buying that xbox 360
I had so much fun with this game. I have the feeling that people who build up cars by themself or work in this sector appreciate it way more than most of the other gamers and I dont know why exactly. There are so much other and better racing games, but this was pure fun. Thanks for the video and bringing back the memories!
The visual style of ProStreet is so frickn cool and the soundtrack slaps. Also you do know that there's a mod that fixes the continue button glitch right? Right?! You did not need to buy a xbox 360 to avoid that problem but I guess it's too late now. Good video, subbed :)
I just bought another xbox 360 in 2024 to be able to play nfs carbon and pro street again. Pro street was meant for a very specific audience; the real car enthusiasts of the 90s and earlier 2000s
I remember really not liking this game as a kid. But few years ago, after being a lot more into Gran Turismo and installing a few mods, it's maybe my 2nd favorite NFS and one of my favorite racing games in general. I still have a lot of issues with it, but the overall presentation and vibe is just great.
Dude you’re literally built for this, I didn’t even know this was a channel under a couple hundred thousand subs let alone 10k?? Keep coming up with ideas, chase a bag, stay humble because its only up, I would love to see how you grab and shift your audience
ryan cooper is not mw/c /u/u2 protag he is referenced in undercover and also darius' supra and the mw m3 livery appear IN prostreet heck the announcer even references one of the plates as palmont crbn plates afaik
at the time, prostreet was criticized for being a game about street-legal races... i have always loved it and still is one of the only NFS games who can give me unmatched vibes, at the point i've bought it multiple times and still playing it on ps2. i would love a remastered soooooo much
This game is one of my favorites of all time. Very simular vibes to Juiced with the closed street racing, which is also one of my favorites. Another interesting game was SRS which was somewhere in between street racing and closed circuit racing; you had proper races, but you also got to freeroam on the streets with other racers and cops to get to events and some street race challenges.
When this game came out, I was pretty much the only one between my friends that loved it for what it was. None of my friends didn't like the "no cops" thing but I thought it was a great change of pace for what we got in Carbon and MW prior to that. I also loved the game for introducing us the "new" Nissan GTR at the time with the GTR Proto reveal trailer which was pretty bad ass. Definitely one of the best NFS out there and bring modern games to shame.
Even breaking 100 MPH sometimes (regardless of what you're even driving in the first place) feels like a death trap on the Nevada Highway as any little crack or bump could derail you straight through the side of a mountain or barrier. No other NFS game to this day has been able to replicate that sense of velocity and dread.
Together with NFSU2 it's my favourite game in the series. I still remember the day I went to a local game shop in march 2009, days before my birthday to buy some game. It was dirt cheap on discount, my friends already told me the game sucks - I had much more money to buy something new but I went with ProStreet. Didn't regret it.
This video was amazing. Awesome work! I just bought myself this game again… 2024 and still hits diff. Too bad that on Xbox 360 Ea nation thing doesn’t work anymore.
Back when the game first came out I was on the fence with the game. I liked it, but did not love it like I did UG2 or MW. Playing it back more than a decade and a half later, now fully grown and more adapt to real life track events and culture, I realize how accurate ProStreet is in its ability to represent the track day culture, with time attack, sector shoot out, multiclass racing, etc. Even the burnout before the drag racing, is legit how you are supposed to properly drag race. It's become one of my favorite NFS games, Top 5 for sure
I wished so hard that this would've been the direction NFS went. As a kid, this game opened me up to the car culture I love now. This game had EVERYTHING. Door to door circuit, classic 1/4 AND 1/2 mile drag, even Autobahn style runs and drifting. I can honestly say this games pushed me to spend the thousands I have tuning my del sol si today. Best of the series.
Yeah I did enjoy parts of Shift and Shift 2, particularly the drifting, but ProStreet was just enjoyable as a whole. If you've never tried the original Juiced I'd recommend checking it out, also had the same sort of closed street racing thing. And there was SRS that was a sort of in between where you had proper closed off races, but you got to freeroam the streets to get to events aswell as some street racing challenges.
I don't know if I'm making sense in saying this but I think Pro Street is the one game that gives the most authentic representation of modern car culture in any NFS game. The newer NFS games try WAY too hard sometimes.
*To me this is not the best Need For speed but in my top 5 but i agree if NFS went a Test drive unlimited route of Real racing mixed with street racing well then NFS wouldve been the king of Racing games till today and not Forza*
I get why people who played UG/UG2/MW '05/Carbon would not like ProStreet, but for me, an 8-yr old who just got their first home console (it was a Wii, lol), this game was my everything. When my Wii eventually stopped reading discs, I managed to score a cheap PC copy of ProStreet. After I installed a couple of QoL mods (the Generic Fix, one making the AI much more competitive, full controller support with controller button prompts, giving the McLaren F1 its engine sound back lol, etc.) the game on PC was a blast of fresh air compared to what I had on Wii (which was essentially identical to the PS2 release). Now I have a frankly-unhealthy habit of comparing every newer racing game I have to this game. It captures the feeling of "built not bought" and "well shit, I spent all my money on new suspension parts so I guess I'm having instant ramen for breakfast" so well. Having to pay for damages, deciding which performance part to splurge on, having to redo certain race days to earn money while also risking paying for more damages, etc.; it was a good balance of everything IMO. Don't even get me started on the soundtrack; I could go on for days. The only other racing game that comes to mind was Forza Horizon 1 and 3, where you start out as a nobody and work your way up to basically running the place. It's not as nitty-gritty as ProStreet, but a hell of a lot more streamlined. Nothing will ever replace ProStreet tho for me; it's truly one of my all-time favorite games.
Race type is different from race class, this should prevent confusion, so let's talk about the grip class race type from the grip race class. I love this guy
Love the game because my car (8th gen Civic Si coupe) is in it. Also, i started my first job ever at GameStop around the time this game came out, and the song "Wolf like me" gives me mad mad nostalgia, brings me back to a simple time where I was in high school and only worked 10 to 20hrs a week, hung out with friends, and had no depression. Also this game got a #Gridlife feel to it and i love it.
So, Unity just announced their new pricing. They're going to be taking money for every time a Unity game is INSTALLED. Not bought, INSTALLED. Commenting here because you spent the first 2 minutes roasting Ricky-whatsisface.
Definitely not my favorite NFS game but it’s still one of the best ones from the good old days. Every now and again I jump back to it and I will admit I tend to use the same cars for each class cause after all my testing those came out to be the best ones. For grip I use the Nissan GTR R34, R35, Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi evo 9 and or 10, and ford cosworth. For drag I use the 69 Camaro SS (trust me that car can easily run 7.00s without the use of nitrous in the 1/4 mile drags the thing is OP), 70 charger R/T, and all the corvettes are OP as well. For drifting this might seem unorthodox but trust me when I say that the 70 charger R/T is legit the best drift car in the game 100%, I’ve pitted every single rear wheel drive car against that one and none of them occur the same points as the 70 charger R/T does in drift events. But I’ll still use others like the 240SX, 350z, and several others cause there comes a point where I just spend money just to spend it cause I’ve got money burning a hole in my pocket. And for speed runs I’ll use the R34, R35, the viper, and this one’s a little weird but the SN95 mustang that’s the late 90s early 2000s model mustang not the early model 2005 S197 model. But it’s actually really good in this game on the PS3 for speed runs. These cars 100% dominate in this game compared to all the other options including the DLC and even the super cars like the zonda.
It's been 16 years and people finally kind of appreciate ProStreet. I knew it can't be a bad game just because it's such a departure from MW/Carbon everyone has knee jerk reaction when it first came out. I still stand by this game it's every bit as good as Race Driver GRID. This game looked pristine on modern hardware very crisp clean looking game, can't say the same to Unbound. This and Undercover have one of the best licensed soundtracks in any racing game, I caught myself fire it up on my PS3 or PC just to listen to its soundtrack.
I've actually figured out that for drift events, your score multiplier is based on your CURRENT GEAR more than your drift angle, so you want to have your gear as high as reasonably possible to increase your score multiplier in your drifts. However, you need to be considerate that using a higher gear makes the car handle more stiffly in turns, so you have to balance your current gear and car handling accordingly.
I like this game, but I'll never understand what happened to my brother's save file though. He played it first on PS2 and got really far into it, but randomly one day when he got on it, his save file got corrupted. He made a new save file, then some time later his old save file came back. Fast forward, his old file got corrupted... again and to this day, I still don't know why or what caused that to happen. Later, he ended up buying the game on X360 and somehow, his save file on THAT console got corrupted, too. I was mad for him and he was so pissed that he ended up breaking the disc, right in front of me.
one of the reasons why the new vegas video didn't take off is, for me personally, i saw the video in my recommended and thought "man i already saw like 10 videos praising New Vegas's dick, imma pass this one", but i dunno maybe it was just me. I feel like everyone in the world already knows how good New Vegas is, not hating, the video was probably good, but you know, i think the New Vegas hype has died off a little
You're 100% right. I was really just advertising that those do exist rather than airing legitimately held grievances, but I can't stop myself from being condescending in my videos lmao
Recently did a no marker run on this game... Honestly really fun makes you think twice about using something like a ford gt for grip as it's crazy expensive to fix each race

I'm glad you liked that bit, I wasn't sure if it would land lmao. Yeah, the algo has me pegged as a NFS guy. I'm fine with that, but I'm intending to break out of it.
Dude, how the heck did you finish those nut-crushing drift events from Ryo? Also, I laughed at the SP video going to 720p and left 1/3 of the screen black. I got flashbacks to when I was making vids and wondered why my whole gameplay is compressed to one side. Stream labs is a B sometimes. Anyway, awesome vid! Looking forward to your next Retrospective.
I just love the Pro Street, taking design of tuning cars like NFSU 1 & 2, Most Wanted and Carbon, but instead doing these illegal races on open roads with traffic which in real life doesn't really happen that much, they took it on the sports track or drag strip etc. where these races are actually happening in the real world. There are not crazy insane tuning of the trunk with subwoofers there are no settings for neons on every place in the car. Instead cars in the race day has number of their car on their cars, some cars come with different color bumper as if they would just wreck the previous one and did not have time to respray it before the race day. It just adds so much realism in that way, you actually feel like you went to the race day with other people and race there different looking cars, there are even much more powerful car in higher classes, it feels like the world is not built all around the player but it feels like it is actually happening and player just comes there to race too. Of course driving physics wise it is still mostly arcade with some realism signs, but you know, that is okay, this is Need For Speed and we like it being an arcade, because that is what it always was and it always was so fun.
Ngl this game came out right when I finally picked up my Eclipse GSX, and was getting super into working on cars, going to the track and meets. I loved this game so much, it's usually what I was doing if I blew up my car lol
15:50 Even though the Forza Horizon games don’t have stories either, for some reason the developers and writers still put a bit of effort into the writing. Even when a game does not have a story, that little bit of effort goes quite a ways toward making the few NPCs feel like characters. The lack of such effort in NFS Pro Street is so jarring while watching this review. It’s been 15 years since I played the game so I’d forgotten how terrible the writing was.
Honestly, I feel like I can *almost* see what they were going for - the characters in Most Wanted and Carbon were pretty over the top, and they wanted to continue that. The problem is that Ryo's only character trait to amplify is his insecurity, and his reaction is aloofness, which just comes off as shitty writing (which, really, it is). I agree, Forza does a much better job at this.
@@mitchelldiedrich Agreed. The writing in Pro Street and Ryo in particular was both terrible and lazy. I really like the fact that the prior games didn't try to take themselves seriously and really leaned into the corniness of the characters. It was part of the charm.
Wasted opportunity to not talk about speed races in a bit more detail - they are one of the best representations of the feel of speed in gaming history in my opinion. Also, Nevada Speed Races are a Horror Racing Game. You also activated Windows. Unsubscribing.
I definitely regret not talking about the speed races more - the car damage + the speed races created one of the most unique experiences in the genre. The margin of error is painfully low, but that's part of what makes them so good. And you're totally right - you feel fast as fuck.
I have never played this game but I honestly wanted to for a very long time because it looked like a game for car customization nerd(which is why my fav nfs of all time is Carbon). @@mitchelldiedrich its kinda wild since I've always found wheelie comps to be insufferable since the 240 sx is literally a 6 sec 1/4 mile demon... and beating karol is piss easy because of it.
I wish autosculpt was a feature that made it to more games. It's so creative and genius. Allowing the player to customize cosmetics that affect performance
Lol same
Same here, we finally have patches for the continue bug (which made playing on Win 10 basically impossible), a fix for the 30fps lock, a fix for the DLC cars not having prices, etc.
EDIT: Also the mods that fix DLC cars since several of them have broken body kits.
could they not have left like a fax machine or their mom's laptop running just to handle these pings
@@ArbitraryOutcome Theres also a fix for DLC cars not costing any money. Do you have the name/number of the mod that fixes the body kits on DLC cars?
I love that they took a break of the cops and illegal street racing and went towards a track day event game. It reminds me of grid life or race wars from the fast and the furious specially cause of the soundtrack rave music they have
And nopi
So they took a break from cool stuff and became a loser? Cool 😂😂😂
@@ClinicalDecisionYikesYTtell me you are braindead without telling me you are braindead:
Yeah you guys would def know what cool is. 😂 Agreed, running from cops LAME. I’m tryna cruise in the Silvia and drift to that rave ****. Who the hell wants to run from cops all day? Like how dumb. It’s crazy they were able to sell these games. And like make their money back. 😂
To each his own.
Babe, wake up, Mitchell Diedrich just uploaded.
yoooooo, this one made me smile.
Most Wanted, Undercover & Prostreet are definitely my top 3, love those games so fucking much
The game is as old as me and its always been my favorite. The soundtrack, sense of speed, gameplay, story, and just about everything about it is just amazing.
Must be crazy to be born when graphics were that advanced at that time. I was born when gt3 came out
I was born months before the ps1 came out janky graphics were my childhood lol
Damn , i'm OLD....
@@maxsanchez764_You're a child too lmao._
Honestly,Prostreet is a case of 'It might had done better, if it was named anything BUT Need For Speed'
Your unity comment aged like fine wine with the current horrible unity drama
I had so much fun with this game. I have the feeling that people who build up cars by themself or work in this sector appreciate it way more than most of the other gamers and I dont know why exactly. There are so much other and better racing games, but this was pure fun. Thanks for the video and bringing back the memories!
You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this video man haha keep up the great content as always.
The starting aged well lmao, rip unity and 3 years of me learning it
Pro street and shift 2 are single handedly why I am so into sim racing
Shift 2 ❤️❤️❤️
What was wrong with the first need for speed shift?
(The update/patch makes all cars drive like crap on the thia game)
I remember my mom buying me prostreet for the ps2 back in the day, one of my favorites! I bounce back between pro amd mw till this day
The visual style of ProStreet is so frickn cool and the soundtrack slaps.
Also you do know that there's a mod that fixes the continue button glitch right? Right?! You did not need to buy a xbox 360 to avoid that problem but I guess it's too late now. Good video, subbed :)
One of the best licensed soundtracks ever, and Black Box games have many of those spots.
@@Fiddy_Too "Like a Wolf" "Atlantis to Intozone" "Bow E3"
I just bought another xbox 360 in 2024 to be able to play nfs carbon and pro street again. Pro street was meant for a very specific audience; the real car enthusiasts of the 90s and earlier 2000s
I remember really not liking this game as a kid.
But few years ago, after being a lot more into Gran Turismo and installing a few mods, it's maybe my 2nd favorite NFS and one of my favorite racing games in general.
I still have a lot of issues with it, but the overall presentation and vibe is just great.
Only game that had realistic drag times , a 9 second supra was something that could actually be built.
This brings back good memories. Loved it when I was a kid because it was challenging and had genuinely good progression. The music is so nostalgic
People weren't mature enough to appreciate NFS Pro Street. The level of details in this game is tremendous!!
Dude you’re literally built for this, I didn’t even know this was a channel under a couple hundred thousand subs let alone 10k?? Keep coming up with ideas, chase a bag, stay humble because its only up, I would love to see how you grab and shift your audience
Bro, this is EASILY one of my top 5 favorite comments so far. Damn, you got me feeling sentimental. You already know I'm not done yet.
ryan cooper is not mw/c /u/u2 protag
he is referenced in undercover and also darius' supra and the mw m3 livery appear IN prostreet
heck the announcer even references one of the plates as palmont crbn plates afaik
at the time, prostreet was criticized for being a game about street-legal races... i have always loved it and still is one of the only NFS games who can give me unmatched vibes, at the point i've bought it multiple times and still playing it on ps2. i would love a remastered soooooo much
the intro to this video has aged like fine wine. Lol
it was really good, i used to play it on my PS2 and its really impressive how they make it compatible to run on PS2.
Forgot to talk about the soundtrack. . .
By far the best from any need for speed in the 2000
The very game that introduced me to the Need For Speed series.
The sense of speed in this game is so so good
And that soundtrack is just... beautiful
@@xkmuffinzx3915 yep
Together with NFSU2 it's my favourite game in the series. I still remember the day I went to a local game shop in march 2009, days before my birthday to buy some game. It was dirt cheap on discount, my friends already told me the game sucks - I had much more money to buy something new but I went with ProStreet. Didn't regret it.
I really enjoyed this game on the ps2 and wii. I hardly know anyone in real life who liked this game. This is one of my top 3 nfs games too
Just started the video but I love how well 0:20 aged.
It's weird looking at this game 12 years later because I remember the graphics being way better
0:26 well, you jinxed it
This video was amazing.
Fun fact: the M3 at the start of MW is a nerfed version of the real one, so it's not an "endgame" car, but rather a "midgame" one.
Went into your channel thinking you'd have a video on your del sol and am now bummed. But sick nfs ost playlist dude!
@@SummonerArthur might be coing soon, didnt think thered be a interest, so thanks for letting me know!
0:26 insane foreshadowing
One of my favorite nfs
My favorite NFS game. And also one of the best song selections for a racing game.
The intro is hilarious now after what heppened to Unity 🤣
Race type is different from race class, this should prevent confusion, so let's talk about the grip class race type from the grip race class.
I love this guy
Love the game because my car (8th gen Civic Si coupe) is in it. Also, i started my first job ever at GameStop around the time this game came out, and the song "Wolf like me" gives me mad mad nostalgia, brings me back to a simple time where I was in high school and only worked 10 to 20hrs a week, hung out with friends, and had no depression. Also this game got a #Gridlife feel to it and i love it.
Your channel’s content will be a fine addition to my collection
So, Unity just announced their new pricing.
They're going to be taking money for every time a Unity game is INSTALLED. Not bought, INSTALLED.
Commenting here because you spent the first 2 minutes roasting Ricky-whatsisface.
Luckily, that isn't happening anymore but still, really bad look for Unity.
Ima be honest it took pro street a few aged years for me to appreciate this it’s an Amazon game and I miss it
I absolutely loved this game.
00:28
this didnt age well
It's been 16 years and people finally kind of appreciate ProStreet.
You could have downloaded a simple fix for the pc version of NFS PS but the dedication to making a great video is noted.
I've actually figured out that for drift events, your score multiplier is based on your CURRENT GEAR more than your drift angle, so you want to have your gear as high as reasonably possible to increase your score multiplier in your drifts. However, you need to be considerate that using a higher gear makes the car handle more stiffly in turns, so you have to balance your current gear and car handling accordingly.
dammmmm the unity thing
I love this game. Possibly my favorite nfs, I had it for the ps2 and rebought it for the ps3.
lol did you accidentally predict the whole Unity scandal?
Recently did a no marker run on this game... Honestly really fun makes you think twice about using something like a ford gt for grip as it's crazy expensive to fix each race
0:15 what??????????????????????????

about your channel growth, it's all mostly bcs of the algorithm, people got recommended your nfs videos, checked your channel videos, saw there are more nfs videos and subbed i guess
at least that's what i did, but i subbed for your style of videos and how you make your scripts, that's all the insight i can give you
I'm glad you liked that bit, I wasn't sure if it would land lmao.

Inconsistent quality is like my calling card lmao
I'll be honest, Ryo's drift events are way easier than people make it seem like, even on dog water cars you can beat Ryo with them.

Get an RX7. I don't know if it has a higher internal multiplayer or what, but you'll get way more points just by using that car
@@kiryukazaumaneverkilledape7564 those felt so grippy so nah
The dude almost Fu-ed Unity 🤣 🤣
I bought it back in the day, but didn’t enjoyed it unfortunately. I wanted a sequel to MW/Carbon…
I recently played this game using the redux mod and god damn it became one of my favorites from black box, and the soundtrack was perfect
I loved Underground upto Carbon but have never get to played Pro street because my pc broke at that time. I got a Ps5 currently tho but I still to this day want to play this game.
I still don't understand how you made the game look dogshit in every clip lmao.
It wasn't easy, but I'm committed to my craft.
I’m still playing it. Hell. I just beat the game last night
4:14 Damage affects the performance of my a**. My Corvette Z06 received heavy damage early in one of the speed challenges against Ryo and I still managed to wipe the floor with him (I was almost a whole minute (approximately 59 seconds) ahead of him)
Bruh you predicted the Unity ‘charge per install’ fiasco
When you said "The game that pissed everyone off by not having cops" I really felt that
