    I really wanted to like this knife, but that lock bar access is horrible and kills this knife for me... doesn't get carried or fidgeted with... Was overall bummed about this one.

    The detent on my giantmouse ace biblio is way too strong. After breaking through the detent, the action is very fast and smooth but sometimes the detent is too strong to break with one hand Does anyone else have an issue like that?

    MC, I have a green one and a natural one. They both had lock stick. One took longer than the other to resolve the stick but both are fine now. No detent lash on either knife so maybe you have a bad one. Both knives came with grease around the pivot and bearings. I cleaned all that mess up and used knife pivot lube. The knives are great now.

    It is a good looking knife,,, but like you said for the price point you can buy better quality from an American manufacturer and get all the features you would expect. It's a good thing they put it on bearings, can you imagine how it would open / close on bronze?

  • @manifestgtr
    @manifestgtr ปีที่แล้ว

    I must’ve gotten lucky with mine. I can adjust mine to drop shut almost uncomfortably fast without any play in the blade…and the liner lock is like “Spyderco military” caliber easy when it comes to disengagement. My little issues are the polar opposite. I’m really spoiled with my micarta shamans so I’m used to these otherworldly ergonomics from knives of this style. These ergonomics fall squarely in the “average” category for me.

  • @lordnicenstein5105
    @lordnicenstein5105 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It's like Italian knife makers are among the best in the world before their lunch breaks and get worse towards the end of their shifts......
    They could have milled out the liners and choil out the lock to justify the price.
    It shouldn't cost more than the Viper Katla, which costs 65 euros less than the grand in a full 3d milled titanium version with a M390 blade where I live.and 80 euros less with micarta, could it be there isn't just the voxnaes but also the anso tax?

    Nice review I've got the Biblio in titanium Stone washed it's a sweet knife has none of these issues that I'm seeing here besides not very drop shutty but I haven't used it much. think the gimping is in a similar spot too I love how it's up higher on the blade spine makes a lot more sense to me as well.

    • @Revenant483
      @Revenant483 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is the issue with this knife to me, you should never have to lube bearings. They were implemented for that reason right there. If a knife needs adjustment / lube with a knife at this price point 'out of the box' that is a huge red flag.

    It is a nice knife without a doubt but yep, mine had detent lash also. Man o man does it annoy me. To top it off I really have to thwack it open to be sure the lock is secure. To many issues just basically make it a shelf piece. But if all the issues were corrected this could be an awsome blade. Tnxs for showin brother hope allz well in yur necka tha woodz 🤜💯🤛keep on keepn on brother 🍻tomorrow is ffrriiiiidaayyyy wootwoot lol

    Thee varying quality of all the Italian made Giant Mouse knives seems to be a common recurring theme. Their Reate made knives are nothing but quality.

    Hey MC, I’ve been watching for a few months now and you do great work. Like you, I kinda gravitate towards heavier over built knives. My question is, who came up with the “ounce per inch” guideline?

  • @moxieblade
    @moxieblade 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Giantmouse with the Italy production is a hard pass for me. Had 3 biblio’s with problems everything from detent to lock up and the vox dapper was the biggest pos knife I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t spend any more money on rolling the dice with them. Good for the folks who has a GM without problems but when 4/4 knives have issues I’m certain there’s more junk passing through qc then I’m willing to accept.

  • @LaddGardner4
    @LaddGardner4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not a fan, for all the reasons listed in this great review, but also because of the prominent "ACE" on the blade which, when closed, reminds me of hardware store franchise tools. Also dislike the very low lanyard hole placement, which means awkward (Up, then Down) stringing of the lanyard. It's gotta be extra long -- if projecting out of the pocket. Also feel like the blade stock is thicker than it needs to be, and will produce less than ideal cutting geometry for things like processing cardboard. Why do most knife manufacturers use such thick blade stock for EDC knives that are generally used for cutting apples, envelopes and cardboard?

  • @ryejack
    @ryejack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really like this one, but that action on the lock and pivot are disappointing. I might still bite if they released a Ti version, but I'd want to wait for reviews first.

  • @progunliberal

    I wish they'd have these made by Reate like the Riv and the Sonoma. It's the Italian OEM that makes these little shitty mistakes.

    Considering the price point, the problems you covered make this a no go for me. I've steered away from liner locks since I was about 12 and had one fail on me, cutting into the back of my first three fingers. No serious injury but definitely turned me off to the lock design. I did buy two Spyderco Tenacious knives to toss in our vehicles as cheap beaters (partially serrated for emergency seat belt cutters) but they aren't intended for hard use... or even regular use.
    The poor access to the lockbar and sluggish action just kind of top off my disappointment with this model. I really wanted to like it but after this video - hard pass. Thanks for saving me the money MC!
