    Great video, very helpful. I have never updated firmware in any of my cameras and this was needed and so helpful. Took me first try, it didn't say on the lens, since I have an adaptor, but I just clicked on current version on the camera and it took me through the menu process of asking if I wanted to update. Great video, very straight forward and easy to understand. Thank you.

    I just bought the R7 and I found it easier to update via the Canon Camera Connect app on my phone. It just downloads the firmware, connect to the camera via WiFi and once done, everything else took place on the camera. Up and running in about 10 minutes

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome that good to know. That does sound like it's a lot easier. What happens to the firmware once it's uploaded to the camera? Does the app delete it off your phone or does it sit there and take up space on your phone?

    Good tutorial, quite helpful for those who've not done it before. I'm all up to date on my EOS R. 😎 I have V. 1.8 and I see the R7 has V. 1.2, I wonder what the differences are?

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for comment. If I were to guess I would say the main difference would be the autofocus ability and IBIS. The R7 has slightly different tech. I'm working on a video comparing both cameras. Stay tuned. . .

    • @musicman8942
      @musicman8942 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not every Canon camera has the same firmware so they all have different updates. Also be aware that if you go to the Caono site to download the update to your computer what you see for an update depends on what the website see is your computer operating system. You may have to fool the Canon site into thinking you have a different computer OS.

    I just loaded the Canon Camera Connect App on my iPhone and it told me theres a new firmware and asked me if i wanted to download and install and I did it no problem. 1.1.0 to 1.2.0

    Fantastic video. Simple and shot. If it just would work on my R7. Any idea why my R7 freezes completley before the update starts? When the update is loaded from the SD-card the OK button stays gray and the whole camera freezes. I have tried different cards and even downloaded a fresh file from Canon. But it's always the same. Camera freezes when it starts to load the update and the only way to reactivate it is to remove the battery. I already mailed to the Canon support, but they don't care anything about my problem.
    By the way, Canon's instruction PDF tells not only to switch to P but also to remove the lens before updating the camera.

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really strange. The only thing I can think of is maybe your battery has low power and the camera wont do the update because of that. You can also update the firmware through bluetooth via the phone app. That might work for you.

    Has anyone noticed any focus issue problems after this latest firmware update. Before I put it on my camera it was producing razor sharp images and the focus locked onto subjects instantly. I use RF lenses and have used all three for bird photography and now getting many photos that are soft and finding the camera is having difficulties locking onto subjects and Animal eye detection has also been lost. I have contacted the seller and explained the situation but all they could say was do the latest firmware upgrade but it was when I did this the problems started. Now wish I had never done the firmware update and have used Canon Cameras for 15 years and this is my worst experience with any model I have owned

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did the update as soon as I got the camera so I never experienced what the camera was like before I updated the firmware. But that being said I have not experienced any issues with focus so far. It works as expected. But if there is an issue I'm sure Canon will come out with an update to fix it. Something similar has happened on other cameras in the past and Canon fixed it.

      @dougsmit1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vaskoobscura_ The focus issue is pretty well documented but the question remains whether Canon will admit the problem and make it possible to install a future firmware without having to reset all the options. Most of us that have had the camera a while have changed quite a few of th defaults. This is a place where I like to be a little slow to move to new firmware until reports are in on how it went for others. This is especially the case when you look at the change list for the new firmware and see nothing of interest to how you use the camera. I hope your incomplete video does not cause people problems unless they read the dm51964 question and Jo Sigurd Bergseth answer down here in the comments. For most firmware updates, your video was great but, in this R7 case, not so much.

    Too much people are saying updating the firmware is making the camera to work worse than the begining. Im 1 year with my r7 version 1.0 and im still refusing to update. Dont see any need to update, the camera work well.

      You can do it via the Canon utility app and a USB cable and i believe you can also do it via the Canon phone app via Bluetooth. Or you can buy a 2 gig memory card on eBay for a few bucks.
