    Thanks for providing explicit details in a concise way. I do mostly bird/ wildlife photography, and I'm still experimenting to find the best C1 mode. Like you, my AF-on button is used for BBF with servo if button pressure is maintained. But my AE (*) button is used to turn on animal eye tracking (via register/recall shooting functions, which allows me to assign multiple AF options to a single button). Of course, if there are no eyes in the scene, the latter defaults to generic subject tracking. I don't know if it's true, but I was told that subject tracking is more responsive if you turn off eye recognition when there are no eyes in the scene, which sort of makes sense. So if needed, I can toggle eye AF off with the front DOF button. As it turns out, I don't miss the DOF function at all, but you can include with ExpSim if you find it useful. I use C2 and C3 for non-bird applications.

      I'm glad you found parts of this video to be helpful.
      It sounds like the way you thought out your button settings makes a ton of sense for what you do. I don't shoot much wildlife, but if I ever find myself doing it, I'm coming back to your comments here and I'm going to try it out your way.
      I do have a RF600mm f/11 review I'm working on, so I may very well need to reconfigure my R7 layout like you have it.
      Thanks!

    I learned to use FV mode with the R6 shooting birds, wildlife and macro. With the R7 it's even more powerful and useful. It is manual mode with auto controls. With just the front dial and the rear wheel I can control all of my settings that matter without taking my eye from the viewfinder. Shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and iso with just my finger and thumb and no buttons.
    The front dial adjusts all of those settings. The rear wheel right underneath your thumb moves the settings control icon across each of those settings in the bottom of your view finder or on the rear screen. For adjusting all of those settings that's it! In FV mode every setting is automatic until you change it. I set my shutter speed fast for action, leave the aperture at auto or wide open, and I use the rear wheel to move that adjustment icon over to exposure compensation. My iso is set on auto and I use the front dial to adjust my exposure compensation as I'm shooting. The rear wheel shifts the adjustment icon to whatever setting I want to adjust. If I tap the trash button that setting goes back to automatic and will be underlined. If I hold down the trash button longer all the settings go back to automatic. Using tracking with eye auto focus on the front button and back buttons just used for single point or to drop the shutter speed that covers everything with those 2 fingers and occasionally the two back buttons.
    FV mode takes care of the fact that the R7 has 1 less dial than the R6 and many of our other cameras. It's working great for me so far!

      Great Video Gram. You right here you can do the same, save settings for video in C1-C3. I know it is possible on 90D, R, but not possible on R6. Have you tried if you really can save video settings on C1-C3? Like having 4K30 on C1 and 4K60crop on C2?

    Phew, I know I may sound weird but I needed a dedicated button to have a magnified view in macro photography - and searching through the manual I didn't find a list of assignable functions and which buttons can be customised. Thanks for showing that list and, although it took me three repeats to find what I was looking for, I now am looking forward a little more to add that camera to my 10D-50D and 7D/7DII...

      @@KevinDeal Thanks. I am still not sold on the EVF stuff. I get eye fatigue fast from previous EVF like in the Olympus cameras I had the displeasure to use - which is why I don't do any video or haven't used any EVF camera for any length of time because these induce hefty debilitating headaches - mostly through tearing, which is why I had hoped to get a 7D Mark III eventually. How is the EVF on these newer Canon cameras?

    Hello Sir, I've a question, is there any way to change the EVF resolution of R7 from 60 fps to 120 fps?

    • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know of a specific way to change that on the EVF. I think everything is tied to the recording resolution. The R7 does 120 fps at 1080P. You just have to put the camera in high frame rate mode.

      I find that when it's constantly focusing it tends to be less accurate. It wanders and locks onto something else. Your mileage may vary.

In that setting you can hit the info button and there may be a way to set up animal, car and human in that one button. So if you shoot any of the eye choices it will do all three. The second back button is for normal focus and I use the asterisk. I have not tried setting up the eye focus with the info setting, because there is no one out there to guide me. lol I do have animal eye on my custom setting 1, sports or human on custom setting 2 and car on custom setiing 3. • @KevinDeal
      @KevinDeal  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In the video I am using the RF14-35 f4 and the RF16mm 2.8. I mainly use my R7 for video, so with the crop I prefer wider lenses.
      However, when I find myself doing portrait stills with it, I like the RF50mm f/1.2. That lens renders well on a crop.
