David Ruffin began writing songs when he was a teenager. He sang in Memphis talent shows before eventually signing with Motown Records and joining the Temptations. With Ruffin at the helm, the Temptations hit it big with such songs as "My Girl" and "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" before Ruffin's drug use caused the band to implode and fire him. As a solo artist, Ruffin found occasional success, but he experienced a hard road, dying of a cocaine overdose two years after he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ruffin's funeral was held at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit. Surviving members of the Temptations sang "My Girl". Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin also sang at the funeral. Michael Jackson volunteered to pay for the funeral expenses, but did not attend the service. Jackson, Rod Stewart, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Diana Ross, the Spinners, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas sent floral arrangements.

Documentary about Detroit cemetery, if you don't know David, troubled life in the end, a complicated guy, a singer with the temptations, cocaine use ruined his career, a solo career that ensued wasn't satisfying, jailed for tax evasion, died too young in a crack house💊💉🚩✅

while your still in Detroit, you should visit Paul Williams grave, he was the heart and soul of the group and the best dancer, he doesn't get enough credit, he died to a gunshot wound to the head, some say it was suicide, some others say he was murdered, RIP Paul Williams

Hi Scott 🙋🏽. I have a nephew buried in Woodlawn cemetery in Detroit Michigan. I ALWAYS Miss you when you're here ‼️.in Detroit Michigan. I don't live in Detroit, but I'm not far from there. I WAS reading in the comments about his daughter. I didn't know that HIS daughter had died. Thank you Scott for doing this one.🙋🏽 I have the whole Temptations Anthology.

This is a great video ! Thank you for posting. David Ruffin had such a nice voice and so many great songs with The Temptations. I remember hearing the announcement on the radio when he died. I didn't realize David was only 50 years old! Also that his family suspected foul play. Definitely a sad ending for him. Too bad he was unable to combat his demons. Thanks again for posting this. Thank you for this particular video Scott! The Temptations were my Dad's favorite group and as a kid I grew up listening to all things Motown whenever my parents had control of the stereo. Also here's a fun fact, David Ruffin's son (David jr.) Is the one who sang the famous chorus "with my mind on my money and my money on my mind" on Snoop Dogg's Gin and juice track.

At one time there were two groups touring, both claimimg to be The Temptations. I saw a group perform at my college around 1972. So I don't know what Temps I saw, but they were really good. I still love their music.

This Album Was Dedicated Their Late Family Who Had Died that same year and it was Jimmy's idea to put this Album together so he called up his brother David and both sung there hearts out.

I never met him either,but I just found out he's my dad's first cousin, he saw pictures of me when I was little my dad showed him,they were close,I wish I met my second cousin and sang with him to,he was in Los Angeles alot,I just found out in May of 2023, that's my second cousin.
