  • Another farmers market?! Another farmers market! This time we find ourselves in Berlin, NJ, home to the appropriately named Berlin Farmers Market. Once again, you'll see a mix of independent sellers throughout the building, along with some fresh food vendors. But the main reason for making a visit here is to check out the Fun Stop Arcade, a quite sizeable spot taking up two booths worth of space in the building. They advertise themselves as one of the oldest continually operating arcades in the United States, first opening in 1963. For video games, although there's a few newer machines in the mix, they have a very strong focus on racing games with titles like Dirty Drivin, H2Overdrive, Sno Cross, Hummer Extreme Edition, Road Burners, Offroad Thunder, and more. There's a good amount of shooters too, including enclosed cabinets as well as stand-ups like Jurassic Park, Dark Escape 4D, Transformers, House of the Dead 2, Operation G.H.O.S.T, and so on. The biggest chunk of the collection though has to be their sizeable selection of pinball machines. While the right side of the arcade is pretty much dedicated to modern Stern machines, featuring nearly every title released since Insider Connected became a thing, the left side is filled with classic titles and rarities, including an ultra obscure cocktail table pinball game called Star Battle and Atari's record-breaking gigantic Hercules machine. Mix in classics like Funhouse, World Cup Soccer, Genie, and Flash Gordon and you've got yourself one hell of a lineup. All the games here take quarters or tokens interchangeably. During my visit, they were suffering some unfortunate power issues on the left side of the arcade due to recent rewiring, but the owner was happy to come over, talk shop for a bit, and even gave me a souvenir bag of tokens featuring the arcade's logo. Very happy to add it to the ever-growing collection! Overall, this is definitely a place that's a lot of fun, has great ambiance, and if I lived just a little bit closer, could see myself spending a lot of time here.

I will head back here soon enough. It's one of my favorites, especially because it kinda reminds me of the arcades I used to go to at malls and shore towns (like Belmar Playland) in the 80s and 90s with majority arcade games and pinball machines, instead of the current mostly redemption machine arcades (which I call, "Legal gambling for kids!") for tickets and/or drop cranes.

Thank you!! That's what I've always said about modern day arcades. Nothing but a gambling hall/casino for kids.

It's a really good spot, and the owner is so nice. Definitely plan on coming back a few times throughout the summer!
