I love ACE 100! What’s great about these lists is you can always tweak them later. Focusing on affordability is really important, which is what makes this list particularly interesting to me.

I'm so glad this is finally coming out! I'm actually more interested in the cards that are lower on your list. I'm going to try and get a lot of these, as the years go by. I'll take a stab at the top 5:
1933 Goudy Babe Ruth probably PSA Authentic
1986 Fleer Michael Jordan mid grade
1979 Topps Wayne Gretzky mid grade
1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle mid grade

This is the first guess that took the spirit of the list in consideration and came close. Well done! (Still not right)
Love what you are doing here! Couple ideas and thoughts.
I think $5,000 is way too high for most people. I’d say most people have an upper limit of $500, and $1,000 is something to dream about.
Love your criteria in general, maybe I missed it are you using collectors grade (a 6 for 60s) etc as a standard?
It can get crowded quickly with multiple cards of one player but there are a couple guys with 2 maybe 3 I would have a really hard time leaving off.
1 a week is pretty stretched, but you put out so much content it would be a nice side thing. Personally I would do 5 a week. Like a 20 minute video and breakdown each card, why you love it etc…

Thanks for the feedback. I talked about the reasoning for $5k. It’s way too high for me too. I’ll probably never get all 100, but it’s something to aspire to.
And I’ll provide more affordable alternatives for all of them.

Michael Phelps has a 2004 Leaf Rookies & Stars Fans of the Game insert. Pretty cool card and relatively affordable.

Would also revisit the Baseball Card HOF that the Sports Card HOF Network puts out. I think you may have even mentioned that in your channel before, but if you are looking for a baseball-specific list, that also comes to mind
I could be off base, but I suspect the reason that PWCC top 100 list is so much basketball (and WHO is on it) is because Adam Gray works for PWCC. Not sure if this was before his time there, but if not, I think we have our reason.

I agree & that top 100 cards featured by PWCC is what is expected. . At the time of the making that list (and even today) it’s the one few marketplaces that’s basketball heavy (buyers and content creators).
What do I do? I put together a top list that is still followed at age 12 or so (1989). It contains all sports. I have have updated slightly. In fact,, it still barely contains cards made 1987 except the occasional MJ & Lionel Messi.

Allen & Ginter has some great auto cards of some goats that would possibly make this list…Tony Hawk and Roger Federer to name a few. The Federer mini auto with the black border in particular is a beautiful card.

This is a great idea for an ongoing segment, and one which will elicit comments and debate; of course, not everyone will agree with your selections, and where you rank them; but they are yours none-the-less.
It'll be interesting to see your inclusions/exclusions, reasonings for this, and the values associated with the cards. Going forward, it'll be interesting to see how the value of said cards alters over time (as Mike, Baseball Collector, has done a great job of).
On another point... Lance Armstrong admitted to his cheating (albeit after years of denying it). As far as I'm concerned - and as far as the governing body for cycling, UCI, are concerned - his records are null-and-void. Eddy Merckx is widely considered the greatest cycler. This, of course, slightly misses your reasoning for the list, but provides a convenient segue for the question I'm about to pose to you and others: If there's a person who is known to have cheated in their sport (i.e. Armstrong, certain base-ballers, etc.), if there's a person who committed heinous crimes (o.j. simpson, chris benoit, et al.) OR someone you vehemently don't like for another reason (however trivial)... will this influence you parting with your hard-earned money to add to your collection, even if their greatness in their sport is enshrined... and the values established?
Thanks for the thoughtful comment, John. I am working on a way to track the values over time. I hope to have that worked out in the next week or two. As for criminals, I still want OJ’s rookie card. 🤷🏻♂️ And I was being flippant about Lance, but apparently it wasn’t obvious.

I would have given a special exemption to Rose's 1964 Topps and Earnhardt's 1988 Maxx Portrait which I think are much more superior to their Rookie Counterparts. My top 5 of what your Top 5 will be are Williams, Jordan, Gretzky, Mays, and Bird. Though I believe there's a non big 4 in there and definitely think Yaz, Brady, or Bonds could be interchanged for one of those 5. To me you should not have excluded Sports Illustrated for kids but I understand the thinking. Card Wise I understand including Lance Armstrong because the card doesn't feel like a grail or hard enough to obtain but Athlete wise I would. I realize the doping issues but he brought Tour de france and grand tour cycling to the forefront of American sports and like bonds argument is still a Hall of Famer without the drugs.
I was going to suggest the same card to Mike for Dale Earnhardt and I totally agree with you on Lance Armstrong 👍💯
Hey Mike, I’m not sure if the PWCC list you’re referencing is the same playlist they made on their YT channel, called the “Iconic 100” or whatever, but it may be worth double checking. The YT playlist (1 video per card) is really good, and does not feel overly flooded with MJ, Kobe, & LeBron. Would check that out just to make sure!

I started a couple different Topps runs similar to this. I have the cy young winners from every year (starts 1956). I’m also picking my favorite card aesthetically from every season and putting them on my wall on display. Basically just means whatever photo looks the coolest IMO.

If the list is ranked by athlete greatness, then I would guess your top 5 as:

Not that I ever would have expected to see Foyt or Earnhardt on that list, but you should have asked me on them! By not including autographs, it would admittedly to tough to come up with a card for Foyt, though. I think his top is his 2007 Rittenhouse autograph. It was a case topper.

I am currently traveling for 2 months but am a Rose super collector and would like to recommend a card or two that would fit your criteria for you to look at and consider when I get a minute.

If it was me, I'd just make a simple list of 100 cards you don't own and love that is in your price range. Then slowly aquire one and revel in it with maybe a video. Nothing too rough, but meaningful as you get one for you!

Check out the books by Tom Zappala. He does a top 50 but I like the list having a cap of $5k +/- Saving up to get that is possible for all budgets
Maybe not all, but a lot more budgets than adding cards like the t206 Wagner and 1916 Babe

Good plan! Personally, I have cut my collection goals to Baseball only. I have my all-time favorite, Cal Ripken Jr., favorite team, Orioles and the rest are just my favorites/greats of the game.

I seen an early Dwyane Johnson Panini card. It was four cards that made one image. All four cards were graded a 6, but it was a pop one. I think it went for 300 bucks. I wish I would have jumped on it.

The only autographed cards I included in my list after the update were the early upper deck heroes like Reggie Jackson, Ted Williams, Jerry West, etc…

It makes perfect sense when you want to control a narrative and sell "those cards" while those are the hot ones you are dealing with. Have a good filter collectors, lotta b.s/💩 to swim around in the pool 😉
OK now a serious take, I like the list idea as everyone will and SHOULD have a different list. Something fun to do, time consuming but a free way to be involved and may learn something along the way while making the list. Good stuff ✌🏽⚾️🇺🇸

I used to not be a fan of the 63 Rose card, I have all his other cards. But, at the National that card is my single focus this year. I might have it by the time of the TH-cam meet up.

So happy the much anticipated top 100 list is ready! I feel recency bias is the downfall of most of these “all-time” lists that I ever see. It’s encouraging to see that won’t be the case with yours. Growing up in the late 70’s early 80’s the ‘52 Mantle, the T206 Wagner and the ‘63 Rose were the most iconic cards. So with the omission of the Rose- it must be quite the list! Can’t wait to see them. Also looking forward to your non-sports rankings. Lastly a nod to the unopened world would be a cherry on top. 👍❤️

Love the idea of this list and your methodology in compiling it, but I HATE the thought of 1 reveal per week for two years. I really hope you change your mind about that and release the list in a much faster manner.

Why not the slow reveal? A few reasons. One, two years is not promised to any of us. Secondly, I am going to assume the majority of collectors will have knowledge about the majority of the cards on the list so other than obscure issues we wouldn’t need a ton of card information in any reveal allowing reveals to be shorter. Lastly, if it takes two years to see the complete list, I’m afraid viewers may lose interest. Collectors tend to have a desire to complete , and stretching it out over two years gives 0 satisfaction.
I would suggest that you either reveal the whole list at one time or reveal it in groups of 10 and reveal it over 10 weeks/months.
This is all just my opinion. You do it how you want and I’m sure I will watch.
