    I purchased and used this one on a brass band mix and I agree with what you say. I like very much the brainworks SSL 4000 better (for THD, EQ, CPU usage, gain compensation).
    The only bad point of the BX one is the dynamic section (in my opinion). The one from ClaMixHub is way better (compressor and expander).
    Working with bucket view is very convenient in my opinion on mixes that involve multimicing. Convenient for High/Low pass and phase flip in context and simultaneously in the same window, stage by stage. This is the point that made me buy this thing and after 2 days, I am pleased buy this purchase.
    Would mostly hope for :
    -CPU improvement (oversampling or not for example)
    -Track number in buckets (would go with a plugin resize function
    -Gain difference display introduced by the plugin in output section

      I'm glad you like it. It does have some nice features, and a few improvements could turn it into a great plugin for me.

    The CPU is pretty much a non-issue when it comes to the new generation of computers.
    I believe they have fixed the "plugin track naming" issue...or at least in ProTools it works just fine.
    Also Waves plugins can now be resized. I mean...the graphics don't get better...but you can resize it to make it fit your screen better.
    You're right. Having the ability to use Pan, Mute, Solo, Record, and Send Level Knobs from within the plugin would be nice...but I don't think its possible with any VST plugins. I have never been able to mute a DAW track from within ANY Vst plugin...maybe they could add like a internal mute button...but it wouldn't be able to mute any tracks this plugin wasn't on...when you try to solo a set of tracks that do have these plugins on it...those tracks without this plugin would still play. Keep in mind even in the Stereo version of the Pan...its still doing it internally in the plugin...rather than controlling your pan knobs in the DAW.
    Overall...you have to realize this is on sale for $35 for 99% of the year...while SSL console...or the controllers...costs $$$$$. If you buy the SSL fader controllers + EQ controller...you are spending well over $2000 for just controllers...and you need at least $40k to even think about buying an SSL console. Yes those are better...but for $35...this ain't bad.

    Thanks for such a thorough and thoughtful review. One of my initial thoughts when first hearing about this plugin were to wonder how it compares to the brainworx SSL models, so thanks for addressing that. Harrison Mixbus too, which avoids a lot of the pitfalls you mention (w/r/t monitoring, panning, etc) by incorporating this style of console emulation into the DAW itself. This new CLA seems a bit clunky as an alternative, but more than anything I'm happy to see other plugin manufacturers embracing this kind of workflow where you're tweaking multiple tracks at once. Despite its faults, I can definitely see this being a great asset and time saver for lots of mixers.

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right, the plugin is not unusable and I'm sure many will incorporate it into their workflow. I think the CPU consumption will be the biggest issue for those who really want to use the plugin across all tracks as intended.

  • @careydixon8189
    @careydixon8189 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ya, great for groups of 8 but for many of my tracks I have to modify into 2 or 3 buckets for a kit, specifically; or vox/BVs. I try to use it where it makes the most sense per these limits. The single additional insert is great as I have pretty much every Waves plugin, but it would be great to see 16 sized buckets, min for these issues, reducing this limitation. Analog aspects also are Pros.

  • @jorykevinberger7047
    @jorykevinberger7047 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Your gripes are legit. But I've seen if you have two buckets, you could open 1 plugin window for 1 bucket and another plugin window the another bucket, and put them side by side.
    The other thing about not having everything in the plugin is that either way most of us would have to go back to the daw because we don't only use waves plugins. That said, in your window for example, you could open two mixhub windows above your daw mixer, your tracks are also labelled there, and if you hit mute/solo or pan, your mixhub windows don't disappear, so it's much easier to go from one to another. In your video, the mute/solo is literally right below the plugin window, no?

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Your suggestion seems like a logical solution for working with 16 tracks, and if your tracks are all closely grouped with no busses/aux tracks in between you can access them all without scrolling if you have the screen real estate. But if you have several busses that separate tracks, or if you're trying to compare tracks that are not close together in your DAW mixer, you still have to scroll and find them in your DAW. It's not a major issue, but it would have been easier for the workflow they are implying, especially as they've included a fader, polarity inversion, and pan for stereo channels.
      I understand that most mixers will not only use Waves plugins, but the idea of having input saturation, EQ, dynamics, and an extra plugin slot included here implies a workflow that stays within this plugin. If you have several other Waves plugins, you could easily mix an entire song from within the framework of the CLA plug, so why not complete the package and include mono pan, solo and mute? Either way, the biggest issue by far is the CPU consumption. It's just too CPU intensive to be useful for large sessions.

  • @fivstaa
    @fivstaa 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i want to ask one important question. Once you are done with all the mixing and want to render the stems. Will the Ableton render setting of 'All Individual Tracks' render each track through the CLA Mixhub settings for that track done in bucket view? OR only the MASTER track will reflect the changes you've done to your mixdown?
    Imagine mixing vocals in 1 bucket using mixhub and you want to render each vocal stem(main,adlibs,chorus etc) after the mixing is done so that you can send it over for remixes to other artists. Will this work or you will have to render the entire bucket only?

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You should be able to render/bounce individual tracks as usual. The bucket view is just a visual placeholder, while the actual processing is being handled on each individual track.

    It's worth it for the sound. Better than the Waves SSL and the BX. I spent some time with them, comparing and CLA's board won. (go figure). The HUGE bonus is just to bypass the dynamics section to throw in something better.

    Ok you made a point of track counts being in the 100s...first of all CLA himself gets sessions that do have large track counts however what he does is condenses it down to 40 or so faders ..This plugin supports more than even he uses on his console so 64 is more than enough! You would deal with this plugin in the same way you would with a console when your tracks exceeded the number of faders you have.

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I think it's only useable on very small sessions, or if you have a monster CPU. Using all 64 tracks would cripple many systems.

    I just my own extensive review of this Plugin and what I say is that if they was able to bring over pan view into the output view ...place a small panner there that would be great Trim is not as vital there as panning would be! CLA lets not forget that on your desk you do have a pan knob close to your faders..the trim knobs are located far away from the fader as they should be!

    People are missing the point of this plug in entirely. It's an emulation of CLA's console! It's not just a workflow plug in, it also sounds amazing. You can just put this plugin on your tracks, not tweak a single knob and it will instantly sound better. If you know how to work an SSL console you are gonna love it. I bought it for $39 and I would pay that just for the 1176 and console emulation sound alone. You can't even buy an SSL compressor, 1176 comp, SSL channel strip for this price. It's a no brainier. They also make a LiTe version for people who have crappy computers. So the CPU is dramatically improved. I have used it on an entire song that I also used many other plugins on.... It worked flawlessly. It definitely sounds like a desk. Not a plugin.

      I never argued against the quality of the sound - it definitely sounds good. I also did this video before they made a CPU lite version. But when time is money, workflow is important and shouldn't be disregarded. But if it works for you, great!

    100% on the cons. Spent time recently trying to see the value of this. Great idea in principle but every one of the cons yu highlight impedes practicality within a mix. The cpu factor is immense……forget using on a whole mix….if yu really want to use bring your tracks into 8 busses and work it that way…..so that max instantiation might be 9 (one on master or submix)

      Green Light Sound Have a 2013 12 core MacPro (HDX) and I’m managing a full mix, between 40 and 50 tracks with pretty much a plug in every channel. The bucket views are sweet but the real plus for me is the sound itself. Closest to a real console as I’ve gotten with a plug. If I run low on CPU maybe I’ll get the brainworx as well, but so far so good. I think it’s worth the price just for the mic/line gains.

    The also should have it so when you in bucket view messing with any eqs or dynamics, what ever knob your mouse touches; that would be the selected track thats revealed once you return to channel view! This way whatever the last channel you was eq ing or whatever would also be the selected channel for Channel view! Right now channel view seems lock to whatever channel is selected on the Daw which yeah makes sense...however when you use the plugin and are in bucket view you end up dealing with more than one channel, so why not follow this work flow and whatever the last channel that was being addressed would be the one in the channel view focus instead of having to go back to the daw and select channel you was dealing with in bucket view! The problem is channel view is the only view that shows a pan knob and only if you are using a stereo plug in.... However the last time I checked an SSL with mono channels still have pan knobs and are still able to pan from left to right. So why no pan knob beats the hell out of me! Lastly give the option for full screen mode! I found myself using this plugin alot.. I go to one track and pull up a plugin and then leave that set and go to another track and pull up another plugin so I end up with 2 plugin windows that I can place both into bucket view and tell one view to show bucket 1 and the other bucket 2 thus forming what looks to be a console like view that can show 16 faders at once instead of 8 what they could do with full screen mode is allow a modifier key to be used to show 2 bucks at the same time forming the same 16 faders! They could use the same seperation indication of one bucket from the other while keeping both buckets showing this would allow the 2 buckets to show individual elements ( one bucket showing faders and the other side showing eq )! Doing the same thing that we can do now using 2 plugins ...do that but do it from one plugin Window!
