    Unbelievable news copper thieves open up most utility boxes on the 6th St., Viaduct Bridge, and steel. The copper wire over 1/3 of the lights are not working anymore blank cables are exposed to the public tagging on the bridge and other crazy things.

      It was a big design mistake to build a bridge with supports that could be walked up or ridden by a bicycle. The architect making such a mistake is bad enough. But the fact that this could pass thru all the City's design approvals speaks much worse of our City employees. We are supposed to call them public servants. In reality, they are just a bunch of slugs who are willing to show up for a crappy job if they get great money, great insurance perks, lots of vacation time and job security. I lived in Los Angeles and had a long career (real estate appraiser) that took me to Los Angeles City Hall many times...I never got the quality of service that would suggest I was working with a person who could be described as a public servant. Most of the time they let you know you are an annoyance for having come in and disturbed their day.
      As for the people who do these crimes, they should receive long sentences and their parents should be penalized too. The criminals AND their parents should be sent out of the country if they came here illegally.

    • @johndavis3921
      @johndavis3921 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tammygermiller8307You miss the point. LA crime has been bad for years. This possible outcome should have been realized while the bridge was being designed. The stealing of copper to sell for scrap has been going on for at least 20 years.
      In the early 1980s, when car thefts were rising, one person used observation and critical thinking to design the "low jack." People saw the news, saw the ads, and protected their cars. During the oil crisis, people were siphoning gas. People installed locks on their gas caps. Today, people are installing ring cams. These realizations by people fall under reason, observation, and critical thinking, which are values John Locke placed in his Enlightenment movement. A movement embraced by Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson, Jay, Franklin, Madison, and later Lincoln.
      Our seven principal founders reshaped and expanded Locke's values into a philosophy known as the American Enlightenment. Under the approval of the other six founders, Madison incorporated these values into our Constitution. Which falls under Article 1, Section 8, "provide for the common defense and protect the general welfare." One of the values of our Constitution is that the government's responsibility is to protect people from the coercive, careless, and selfish acts of others. This is the reason we pay the government.
      Now LA will have to pay for the repair and I am sure the same thing will happen again because somebody didn't take the time to design an access panel that is theft proof.
      Governments in the United States are responsible for being one step ahead of the crooks.
      If it were up to me, I would look at how people have treated the bridge since it opened. The bridge has obviously been abused. Based on how the bridge has been treated, I believe the park will be trashed by some members of the public when it opens in 2025.
      Unless someone can come up with a surface that can withstand heat and repel graffiti that is cost-effective and an outlet box that can deter copper thieves, I wouldn't be blowing taxpayer money on these projects. I say be cost-conscious. Go with the bare essentials.

    So, prior to the 2008 financial crisis, when copper prices (and all commodity prices) was high and in demand, stripping copper was not uncommon. Sometimes strip mall owners (I include myself) would find the charred remains of a person OR find your copper missing. What we learned was that you can protect your building by placing the tubing on the inside AND using silver-dollar locks that cannot be cut onto the breaker boxes...and then I added a second lock to each box. Apparently LA did nothing to make these access and strip proof.

    Lived in Austin in the 80's. Someone stripped all the copper to the walk in coolers 1000's$ of BBQ gone bad. Then we discovered that someone was living in the crawlspace of our burger joint (which was next to bbqjoint) they had cut a hole in the a/c vent and was nice and cool in the Texas heat. Restaurant was hot as hell. They discovered a cot and small table with a candle on it.

    Here in Arizona what gets hit hard are the Air Conditioning units that sit outside the home, a vacant home will be targeted within a week that copper is gone inside the unit, some people put prison bars around the unit to prevent copper theft. I was moving into a rental home that was vacant for 3 days so they could clean it, the day I moved in the 2 A/C units in back were destroyed and the landlord had to fork out thousands to replace them.
