Hey Mike, this preach gave me a very good view about the service of the lord. With this knowledge I can invite my brothers and sisters to attend in graphic design at my local church: I can call out the ones, who have the gift of the spirit and the ones, who want to find out, if they have the gift of the spirit. This helped me a lot, because I was already thinking a few days about what participants and motivations I want to address, when I invite them.
@@jamesjahavey1681 I think your question is which....denomination....and the true Church is made up of all believers....in Jesus.....regardless of denomination....or in spite....of...
I know you'll never see this because it's an older video, but I really wanted to say thank you for this message. Somehow, I just "happened" to stubble on this video on a Saturday night, when I was really dreading all the "tasks" I had to do at church the following morning, and as I started watching it, I was crying within the first 10 minutes because what you were saying spoke exactly to my situation. Thank you for using your ministry to serve the Body, all around the world! Now, I will go serve my local Body with my gifts and view as not a task but a Spiritual focus on God and His Children.
Preachers = Exhortation Teachers = Education Both kinds of pastors are great and we need them both in our churches. We need to be taught scripture and then we need to be urged to follow it.
Unfortunately many churches have adopted the worldly view of running it more like a corporation instead of biblical. God bless you brother and thank you✝️
I've been struggling for months now trying to figure out what my spiritual gift is. I really needed to hear this! I learned so much and I finally understand. It's better to do SOMETHING, serve somewhere, anywhere, for the Lord than to do nothing. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. God bless you ❤
I am SO grateful for YOUR teaching and exhortation. I share a lot of your material... my small group Bible study is currently following your 'Jesus in the Old Testament' series. 💜
Shout out from North Carolina! I just want to say how much I enjoy your teaching! You truly have a gift for it! I stumbled across your videos recently and have gotten my friends into watching them too, we all agree you are awesome. It's refreshing to hear sermons so grounded in scripture that have quality and depth to them. You have inspired me to get more into the word and to use it as a solid ground to stand on, also so that I may be able to help others as well to grow and ask important questions. I'm a young adult, and encounter so many other young adults who are christians that haven't really started exploring the word yet on their own and I want to encourage them to make that change in their life. I'm looking forward to more of your sermons in the future. I was curious though about your opinion on tithing, I hear so many differing opinions and would love to get your thoughts from a biblical standpoint. Thanks so much!
Thanks Mike! This video is really great. I was really excited to stumble upon your teachings. I learned the gifts is this Romans passage as follows: Perceiver/Prophecy - Focused on pointing out facts Teacher - Focused on the "whys" behind things Compassion/Mercy - Focused on bearing the pains of another Giver - Focused on filling the tangible need of another Server - Focused on filling any need Administrator - Focused on the interactions of a group to reach a goal Exhorter - Focused on encouraging others to move forward Each gifting has strengths and ways they can be misused. Knowing this has helped me greatly in knowing how to meet people where they are at. I have a passion for wanting believers to know how the Lord has equipped them to function in the body of Christ.
Mike, another great message full of sound teaching and reverent humility to scripture. Thank you for your obedience in your ministry. If you read this comment, please say a quick prayer for me and clarification of my ministry. Thank you.
Let me stand up and slow clap for 44:28 - 44:40 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 This is why we don’t need to “tithe” in the sense that the Old Testament means it. Just give with liberality according to your means. Tithing is great to encourage discipline in your finances, but offerings (within and outside the church) led by The Spirit are what we are called to do in the gospel.
Thank u. I thought spiritual serving had to be something else. But now I know why God says when u do anything do it in Jesus name. Colossians 3:17 This was confirmation!
I'm really lucky to have a God who loves me and gives me gifts every day. It's early in the morning and he's already given me my breakfast. The Lord God is truly the god of gods, a great god. (Deuteronomy 10:17)
I truly love your teaching Mike. God has given you a wonderful gift and I can tell that you love using it. I wish I could attend your church. I do love the church I go to and I'm thankful for it, but it could use a bit more of your teaching style.
One day my NCO asked me what is integrity? I answered "to do the right thing even when nobody is looking". Boy did I get chewed out for this, but I believe I was 100% in the right.
Hello my brother, do you also have a video on the Gifts of the Spirit as mentioned in 1 Cor. 12. If you already cover that in this video, it's because I just have it on pause in the beginning of the video. Thank you and God bless you and your family.
I needed to hear this. Although i dont particularly think i have the gift of teaching, i do a bible study with my friend. And i find it such a struggle to teach what i know in scripture just to learn and teach, because when my friend has a view that isnt what the scripture says or has a differing oppinion i go into correction mode rather than teaching mode. I know its not helpful. I needed this reminder
I wish I knew what my royal-blue brother in Christ (regarding tithing) thinks of: Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5. His reasoning, to exclude these considerations--not absence of awareness. 🙏
What happens when a Christian has a gift that cannot (at least according to the local church body) be used because of past sin, even when that sin is confessed and repented of? Are there ever people who just can't be used?
I don’t know of any scripture that prohibits the use of the gifts of Romans 12. Now, if there’s a Christian that is in continual sin, check out Matthew 18:15-17.
How come most churches have the one man/pastor preaching most of the time and no time for flow of giftings like or according to 1 Cor 14 especially verse 26?The common flow of the service is just replicated everywhere......
Hi Mike! In my quick googling of Priscilla and Aquila, I saw that there are some who think she may be the mysterious author of the book of Hebrews. I'm not sure where my heart is at in hoping this might be true-- perhaps because I don't fully understand the role of women in teaching that you touched on earlier, perhaps because I am wrestling with my own pride vs. my role in the Body. Do you think God might have used a woman to write a piece of the Bible? Or do you think that would be a contradiction of other passages regarding the role of women in ministry? What about books written by modern women? (I know you're researching the women in ministry thing currently. Looking forward to hearing those teachings 😊)
I wonder what the reputation is of one's local church. It seems most letters not all but Paul was able to give a good report and to comment on the church addressed in letters. I think we have way too many churches that have a minister as the only one who plays. We have ministry in everything we do. But we do have other gifts that edify the body. Gifts that are Spiritually directed and we are to seek them. Our churches seem to be a lot less dynamic than what they should be. Also we do not help other churches as much as we could a bit of being in silos
God plan for the church is NOT to congregate around one person with the gift of teaching Sunday after Sunday after Sunday. Period. This is what has gotten us here, and here is not where we want to be.
Hey Mike, do you have a video explaining biblically why a woman should not be an elder? I have had women elders who can teach very well, and their other elder responsibilities; so I am very confused if there is something biblically that supports the notion that this is not something for women.
Try reading 1 Tim 2-3; 1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5:22-33; In my opinion, teaching is not a problem. Woman’s spiritual authority over men is not found in the Bible. Or maybe someone can show me. But then again in America, this can be considered sexist. What’s Biden latest statement on LGBTQ in his 1st 100 days? God save the church.
Pastor Mike, when does your teaching take place. I would like to attend. I currently attend Downey First Christian, but I would like to attend your teaching if they are in evening. I listen to your youtube channel at work. Makes the day by quick. Thank you and God bless.
I teach on Sunday evenings at 16523 Bellflower Blvd. Bellflower CA. The service is from 5-6:30pm and we have worship, prayer, study and then discussion. I’m teaching this coming Sunday (December 17th) but will be taking two Sundays off after that and will start up again on January 7th. Hope to see you there! I should add that parking is behind the building and we meet upstairs.
That is some twisted garbage. I thought this, "follow God not men" had gone out of fashion years ago ... I've met and talked to people like you and they seem more interested in arguing with people than encouraging fellow Christians and much more anti-Church leader than pro-Gospel. Infact a group of them began meeting together and guess what ... after about 18 months, one of them says they needed a leader ... and he was willing to be their Elder. They fulfilled the very thing I said would happen months earlier. The group is dying away. It is a group of malcontents that gathered to moan about thriving fellowships/Churches. I don't believe obedience to The Word is your priority: I believe obedience to your opinion is. I don't believe The Lord is your priority. I believe obedience to your arguments are. The people I have talked to in this "Church systems" "We follow God not man" type of thinking tend to be odd, over-looked in Church (for some position they though they ought to have got therefore they are now anti-leaders) or ungracious ... perhaps all three?
Mike I really enjoyed the study with you on Romans but what happens if the Christian never ever does any of those things that you happen to mention in this study. But yet they call themselves a Christian?
@Jay- biblical tongues were actual languages that could be interpreted, not what we see in the Pentecostal/ Charismatic movement, they are speaking gibberish
@DyingToLiveForJesus How do we miss it? In the congregation when a message comes then the interpretation must come also. In your private prayer in tongues scripture says we don't know what we are saying, but that the Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and prays for what we don't know what to pray.
@@SeekTheTruth205 Timothy, please listen till you fully understand that there is a counterfeit in the things of God. Kundalini is counterfeit of the Holy Spirit.
It seems very evident that they are against women in a teaching position but I have a few questions. 1. Could it possibly be a context issue as the women at specific churches were abusing their own power? 2. Paul is well studied and writes well. At this period in time they also had an unspoken rule that the husbands name comes first and then the wife’s name. So it’s interesting to see Paul refer to Priscilla first multiple times after their first meeting. 3. It seems strange that it would be okay for women to be prophetesses but not teachers right? I mean one can lead them into battle but the other cannot speak in church. We could say oh he means every church but it’s very evident that he speaking to their exact issues in their church as there was a outsider bringing in false information and the rich women were dressing as if it were a fashion show. That isn’t the case for every single church. No matter what I desperately want truth. I like to ask questions and learn truth even if it’s not easy on my ears. So plz be nice lol
I struggle with my role in The Body. I ache for more time in fellowship, more giving, more evangelism... but those things are hard for me to balance with my family life om account of the fact that my husband is sole breadwinner and he also isn't a believer anymore... so in wanting to give him preeminence, I hope that maybe God may use me in my marriage rather than "out in the world". If there is any advice you can offer, I'd be grateful. It's a daily internal struggle because hubby and I can't even really discuss the spiritual, existential matters of life. He doesn't care about any of it. I don't know if he even ponders such things...
JustKenzie - as no-one has answered your query yet, may I add something? Firstly, any guilt you feel for not being more active in your Church needs to be rejected. Guilt usually comes from the enemy of our souls, comfort and teaching from The Spirit. Guilt will distract and rob you of joy or success because enough will never be enough. God knows how much of your time can be re-arranged so that even if you cannot attend Church, you will be able to attend a mid-week meeting or have folks round your home. Any fellowship is better than none. Finding your place of prayer and just enjoying time with God is very important. I am not just referring to letting God know of your needs, I mean we just sit in His Holy Presence and either listen to music, sing songs or simply allow our mind to focus on Him. This takes some discipline, as our brains tend to wander - but I have had breakthrough and know this works. Just to sit alone with God, with no other purpose than to think, ponder or meditate on Him is wonderful and so refreshing ... and no, it's not just for hyper-spiritual; it's the lost art of meditating on The Lord. We calm our hearts and bring our minds into sharp focus upon The One who loves us most. If I find myself becoming distracted or my Fibromyalgia making me sleepy, I just whisper praises to God, "Father, thank you so much for totally accepting and loving me when I felt rejected and un-loved." "Jesus, your sacrifice was so precious, so wonderful to me and cost you so much I cannot even begin to find words of gratitude" then I'm back into focus. JustKenzie - sometimes we don't 'feel' like this. So I have to say to myself, "Are these things true when you felt healthy? Then just because you're feeling low/tired doesn't mean truth is any less true. All the things you believed back then, your believe are true now - so get on with giving God His Glory" And after reprimanding myself :-) I start praying. I know there are people who will say, 'but these are un-productive prayers, you're not asking for anything useful.' If your hubby or someone close to you says, 'I love you because you are you - and no other reason' is that un-productive? Some people fail to see the 'person of God' because they see Him only in terms of getting something. We can gain knowledge from someone, even when we are quiet. We can know God better simply by slowing down and focusing on Him without expectation of return. God is your 'pre-eminent' focus. In putting The Lord first, other things tend to fall into their place. You might utterly love your husband, but God should be our first and pre-eminent love. I once asked my Church congregation during a sermon - who became a Christian through our street ministry and who became a Christian because someone spent time with them. I cannot remember a hand going up for the former and all went up for the latter. Your Ministry does not have to be linked to Church activity, but who you are as a child of God, purchased by His Son's Precious blood and now have His Image returned to your life because you are a new creature. That alone ought to be enough to share with people that you meet. Live out what God has poured in. Live as someone who KNOWS The Lord because you spend so much time with Him and people will be attracted to what you say because your life will carry with it the fragrance of Christ. We become like the people we spend most time with. As your draw closer to your Heavenly Father through spending time alone with Him, you will find yourself thinking, speaking and acting as His Son did. THAT will not only affect your husband but also attract seekers to hear what your have to say. It isn't my intention to offend, and I rarely get this personal with people I have not met, but your reaching out touched me and having travelled in and out of some difficulties, I just wanted to share my helps :-)
grow, where you are planted.....be a good wife....a good mother, if you have children....and interact, with anyone that you come in contact with....and as this teacher stresses.....live a holy life....and as this other individual said...guilt is a waste of time....it will not get where you want to go....
😭 I grieve for you sister in Christ. Pray and love on your hubby. He obviously has been hurt. My grandfather went through this too and never stepped back into a church the rest of his life. I pray you find godly woman felllowship in your area and a godly church to help draw you closer to God and your hubby back to the faith
Just Kenzie I realize your post is old but I was touched by it. You have used discernment and wisdom making the decision you made. I have been under pastors who taught the opposite and as a result people did more for the church or for the world neglecting their family and their marriages fell apart or their children resented the church. I believe you have heard from the Lord and I pray you received the confirmation you were seeking. God bless you my sister
My experience with several pastors, has made me extremely cautious about using spiritual gifts in a church fellowship. Now I have no church, no fellowship in which I and either loved or valued, no place I belong. Church can be a dangerous place where you give all you have only to get your heart ripped out.
I feel you. We feel this keeps happening too. We are in the process of leaving our church after a bad prior church experience and a move to another state. It’s been 4 years and 2 of those as members. The past 1.5 years have been this descent into progressive Christianity and woke theology with tyrannical rules that aren’t pertaining to salvation and sin and anyone who questions that or Critical Race theory or the idea of covert racism is not talked to but their actions/beliefs passive aggressively discussed in sermons or in podcasts. I was one of 3 sound people. Only one sound guy, the leader, is left. The sound team and worship leader asked to meet to practice new live streaming alongside in house worship. Pastor said NO and when we asked if we could meet without practicing his part he demanded no one meet at all for any practice and to not worry what the online streaming sounded like it didn’t matter but it did to all those involved in music and sound because it makes us look lazy or like we aren’t doing our best for God. Pastor didn’t care and doubled down. I quit serving sadly. This was after the summer of “We are all little racists and live in white privilege sermons (1st set were on Feb. 2020), and how we aren’t in the same kingdom so nations don’t matter we help even illegal immigrants with what they need (he would say what those were) and we need to acknowledge our covert racist bias as white peoples. Also if you won’t mask (no distinction for medically or mentally impaired people) you are acting unloving and Pharisaical. Now, here in this last month, if you are a Conservative Christian you are now Pharisaical and have “disconcerting” beliefs that need to change. Oh but Romans 13 for any health initiatives but not for riots or helping illegal immigrants and such. If you confront him he will just agree with you but then talk about the opposite on his podcast confusing you as to his real feelings. My husband recently this weekend decided we were done when the elders “ordained” swore in an elder they solely picked out... only one, without any way to say anything about their being newer converts, too young ( barely in their 30s), and also extremely busy with trying to open a restaurant and run other businesses. I have never seen if he can preach at all or answer tough theological questions, (we even think my hubby and I are not qualified yet), not a good handle on his wife who has many times thrown fits in church and badgered people she hold different opinions with (I and others have been on the receiving end) and she has had to have the Pastor’s wife demand she calm down and stop fighting and blowing up at people. The only thing being praised about the new elder is the fact they will be the first “minority race” elder in our church. That isn’t even a quality of an elder!!! We and many others I know didn’t say a word of their dissatisfaction or disapproval of the only elder nominee because they didn’t want to seem or be labeled as racists even though it had NOTHING to do with race that we felt disqualified him and his family. There were several other families, even minorities, that were older and more theologically sound and wise that were overlooked merely because this man and his wife is who our pastor attributed to helping him change from conservative Christian to “woke “ (as our pastor self claims) pastor and how everything about how we do church needs to be evaluated and changed. My husband felt this was church nepotism and he was done after this weekends events. We have been ignored even though the church is small and claims they will never allow members to slip through their fingers because we are family. Apparently it’s only approved beliefs that get that treatment. We have been taking time to heal and forgive. We have seen this happen in other theological areas of a progressive and liberal theology in our churches before. We have begun to intercede and pray for protection for churches and ask for God to lead and guide pastors back to the truth and also keep pastors in our area to the truth and not be lulled into these false teachings. I pray healing and restoration and that God brings you and our family to churches that will stay true to God’s Word and not allow people’s sob and victim stories to change their theology. I pray you may find somewhere, even if it’s outside a community church setting, to use your spiritual gifts to glorify and honor God!
@@Jaxmusicgal23 Ta, I have found another church where things seem to be working out well so far. Personally, I don't like labels like conservative, woke etc. I think we should just follow Christ's teachings in all things. Conservatism seems to get equated with politics and I think that is a mistake because conservative politics is very hard on the poor, sick and needy. Christ taught that we should care for others, so that is at odds with political conservatism. There are many people who see politics as either left or right where in fact, it is a continuum. They think that if you are not ultra right, then you are a communist. The fact is that all parties have some points that come close to values that Christ taught and others that don't because these are all following their own ideology and not Christ. We however are called to follow Christ alone, so we must not get caught up in such worldly things. The problem with "woke" is the sense of entitlement to control others. No one can not determine how someone else might react to them. Therefore, how anyone reacts is entirely their own responsibility. It is not the responsibility of the person they are reacting too. To think otherwise is exceedingly self centered and immature which is essentially the error at the heart of "woke" In Christianity, we are supposed to fore-sake all for Christ. There is no room here for such self centred notions and it is a big mistake for churches to pander to such notions as "woke" or other dysfunctional, manipulative behaviors.
I couldn't listen to the entire video. Did you mention tongues, interpretation and prophecy and how they are to be used in the Church? 1 Corinthians 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 1 Corinthians 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Hello i am struggling with eating pork, i am told by some priests that it is in the bible that is forbidden to eat pork levithicus 11.7-8. deuteronomy 14.8 isaiah 65. 2-5 and jewish religion say no pork either.. jesus said to follow old testement. mathew 5. 7-2 And similar to drinking alcoholic drinks. thanks.
danny yo we’re not under that law, which is why we read the bible in context. Too many people love to pick out scripture and don’t even know what was going on at that time. You can choose to eat pork or not but neither people should judge each other for it cause there’s no sin involved. Paul said there will be christians different from each other so as long as there is no sin or twisting of scripture, it is okay.
Hopefully, none because Jesus had only come in the flesh for the lost sheep of the house of Israel, to usher in the kingdom (Israel, exalted above the nations). He taught Torah keeping and only gave the bread to the children of Israel. He trained 12 who were to sit on 12 thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel. But the rulers rejected Christ and so the kingdom did not come as promised (yet) and God raised up Saul/Paul to frame the "new humanity" with no Israel, no Jew/gentile, no Torah observance, no "works" but entirely grace thorough faith. JWs do not "rightly divide" the scriptures and so they think that they are Israel which they are not. And they seek to be justified by pre-Pauline kingdom living. JWs have been used of God to help destroy the strong hold of Trinitarianism and some other stuff but they have failed in so many ways, such as instating a new Papacy, a works salvation and other errors. No one gets it all right but JWs miss the most important thing which is the gospel of the grace of God: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 10:9-10.
The nation of Israel was trapped in the law until the one that would come who could keep that law, so as to fulfil what Adam had lost one mans disobedience was replaced by one mans obedience was it not? Not to many Christians accept that or understand it, do they?
Paul's writings are difficult to understand as are all of the scriptures, no doubt and many people and groups self-identify as "Christians" that do not really understand the gospel at all. However a great many have a deep appreciation the God' righteousness is a gift, not something earned or preserved by anything that we do (such as distributing literature). The casual reader might mistakenly believe that Paul is saying that Jesus "made many righteous" by vicariously obeying the law but that is not the point. Jesus obeyed God all the way to the point where he surrendered to be killed and that is the "obedience" Paul refers to when he says "by one man's obedience the many were made righteous". As Paul said "Christ died for our sins" - he didn't "live for" our justification. He died to justify God for his free and gracious forgiveness of sins on the basis of faith. The question is, do you trust in Christ's death and resurrection *alone* or in combination with some meritorious works such as "clean living" and such?
The scriptures are clear are they not we do not need an opinion based on speculation now do we? Matthew 7:21 Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. So what is the will of the most High?
Please note that just like the Torah, the prophets, etc. the sayings of Jesus are not the gospel for the current age of the new creation. For salvation today we look to the writings of Paul who teaches us that justification is on the basis of our faith as a gift from God.
How did the Apostles know the Samaritans had not yet "received" the Holy Spirit? (Acts 8) These people were truly born again, because their baptisms were valid! How did they get born again, without "receiving" the Spirit?
@@peregrino9154 I never said Water baptism saves. Water baptism is a command of God, for all believers. If an *UN* -believer is baptized, that baptism is not valid before God. Therefore, since those baptized in Acts 8 were not rebaptized by the Apostles, then we know they were truly born again *BEFORE* they were baptized. Follow me? My question is... how did they get born again without receiving the Holy Spirit immediately? Because they didn't "receive" the holy Spirit, until later.
The Holy Spirit indwells in you when you believe. Water baptism isn't just a command; It is a proclamation that someone as died with Christ and resurrected with Christ. Resurrected as a new creation, with a new Spirit, being born again. Every believe is saved by grace with His Spirit not everyone is baptized by the Spirit. Indwelling of the Holy Spirit is different than being baptized by the Holy Spirit. When one is baptized by the Spirit, one is filled with the Spirit receiving Spiritual gives. In Acts 1 Jesus tells Disciples that they would be baptized by the Spirit. In Acts 2 pentecost happens and they are filled with the Holy Spirit. To put it into an analogy; every believe has been given a credit card, but not every believe has swiped card reaping the rewards. Peter had Holy Spirit indwelling in him in Mathew, for He had revelation of who Christ was and no man revealed it to him. It wasn't until Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit fell upon the disciples. The charismatic movement is a very bibical idea. That the power of the Holy Spirit falls on His people.
Mike historically look into who were hellenists... jews who under roman greek rule preffered greek thology and abandoned moses temple and so on.. they were disappointed with law and all... they were outcasted not accepted in the temple as they would not submit under the rule, in the church they would also stand out away from law obdient disciples, there was a prejudice going in the way peter responded.... he basically wanted them to make a choice either to become Christians or remain outside of church.... they did not want to surrender their views....
Great stuff. However,... It seems to me that what Paul is talking about is not how to use one's gifts but rather how to measure oneself. Instead of measuring myself against a brother or sister (not wise) I measure against the measuring device that God gave to each person, and that is how effective we are in using our own gift: Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the [appropriate] measure [standard/ruler/measuring device] of [their] faith. He says the same here: 2Co 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: **but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise**. 2Co 10:13 But **we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us**, a measure to reach even unto you. 2Co 10:14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 2Co 10:15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, So if you have the gift of service then measure yourself by how much more you serve than the teacher or exhorter does. You will come up "the winner" in that race while if the teacher measures himself by his teaching against the server, well he is "the winner". Instead we are to measure our performance against our own gift: how well am I, as a giver, say, doing at not having any strings attached when I give? This is thinking "soberly". I'm comparing myself against the goal of *my* high calling in Christ. And that gives me plenty of space for improvement. Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us evaluate ourselves] according to the proportion of faith; Rom 12:7 Or ministry, let us [evaluate ourselves by] our ministering: or he that teacheth, [evaluate ourselves by our] teaching; Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, [evaluate ourselves by] exhortation: he that giveth, [evaluate ourselves by our] simplicity [lack of "strings" attached to our gift]; he that ruleth, [evaluate ourselves by how well we practice] diligence; he that sheweth mercy, [evaluate ourselves by our] cheerfulness [as opposed to begrudging]. This saves us from two ways of thinking unsoberly: * thinking we're great because we excel in an area that others don't * thinking we're a failure because we *don't* excel in an area that others do There are celebrities in the body of Christ and that is by design. It is also by design that other gifts have less or even no celebrity: 1Co 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 1Co 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: 1Co 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. Our mouths are always front and center. Our feet are crucial but rarely attract attention for their crucial but thankless job. Some extremely vital parts of our physical bodies never even see the light of day! As we are in the end times should not the body know who they are? 1 Corinthians 11:28, 29 .First let a man approve himself after scrutiny, and thus let him eat of the loaf and drink of the cup. For he that eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment against himself if he does not discern the body.
The eating and drinking of the seder is only for the Jews because of God's new covenant with the houses of Israel and Jakob: Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a *new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah*: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law [Torah] in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: Jer 31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. Jer 31:37 Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD. Jer 31:38 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the city shall be built to the LORD from the tower of Hananeel unto the gate of the corner. Jer 31:39 And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall compass about to Goath. Jer 31:40 And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook of Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto the LORD; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever. 1Co_11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the *new testament in my blood*: this do ye [Jewish disciples], as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. Hopefully no non-Jewish JWs are partaking.
How are Christian taught to tell the difference between the angel of light or the angel of darkness pretending he is light? Is this translation a help or mot? 1 John 4: We originate with God. Whoever comes to know God listens to us; whoever does not originate with God does not listen to us. By this we distinguish the inspired statement of truth from the inspired statement of error.
Do you mean the cult of the Nazarene? No Jesus was saying those at the end times would have to ask themselves who is the one dispensing the food at the proper time do you not know the answer to that question ?
No one gets a spiritual gift unless they figure out and pass the test that allows one to become a "Born Again Christian, ("Saved" and Spiritually Awakened are also nonvenomous term with becoming a Born Again Christian)! Those who have made it to this stage will have been given spiritual gifts of extraordinary ability and these include people such as: Eisenstein, Sigmund Freud, DaVinci, Edgar Cacy, Tesla, and Shakespeare, and possibly C.S. Lewis. Any spiritual will be of extraordinary ability and will not involve money, materialistic value as with any spiritual gift the gift may also be taken with the individual to Heaven after their physical body expires here on earth!
+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
Check out ‘serving without sinking’ good book for this topic. I think the attitude is to pray to the Lord that through his Holy Spirit your heart is changed :) also from the Bible look at James 4:17. If you have a conviction to give and know it is right, then based on the reading of that then I think it is a good thing to give, but still pray to the Lord as above that he would change your heart :) just my thoughts on your tongue in cheek question :)
this Acts 6 situation is so interesting...because, in the day, at Calvary Chapel....if one wanted to Serve, by Teaching no one went to this passage...they would say something....ok go pick up trash....hmmm...following the Bible....
Why has the new NIV dropped the name Jehovah and Hell? Why was Jesus never apologetic for some of the things he said even though many left off walking with him?
evidently, in Hebrew...the word is YHWH....and no vowels....any attempt to put in vowels is just a guess....and as mentioned here...the J was not even in existence....as a side note the Y....in certain Spanish dialects has a J sound....this is just an attempt to make the word to be pronounced...
in the day....so to speak....it was apt, to teach....and, for better, or worse....we taught....then it went by the wayside...and some outsider was brought in....and those conferences....oh yes....it was another outsider.....ergo....it started off good and then changed....
I disagree on your point about not tithing. I think you gave a couple of folks an excuse not to support their local church. So few people actually give anything anyway. Tithing is a great way to live out your trust for God. We so often worship money. A poor person can worship it just as much as a rich person can. It is true a church should not demand money, but often they (local churches not TV people) do end up begging for it so that they can survive.
you are right the spiritual tests, while interesting....really provide no sense of direction....or to put it another way...not much to take away....from it....
Prophecy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Leadership, Mercy, Word of wisdom, Word of knowledge, Faith, Gifts of healings, Miracles, Prophecy, Distinguishing between spirits, Tongues, Interpretation of tongues....
Whether you are a boy or a girl? It is strange how people interpret the bible. You could say "women should wear head coverings and I would not suffer a woman to teach" and people are like.... yeah no they can teach and don't need to cover their head.
a large part, of the issue....is the attitude of the leadership....and most leadership seems to want people to be passive....as most Churches are just preprogrammed....and you have no input in it...
Those churches want people who serve and say nothing or just agree with everything. If you ever have a different suggestion that isn’t the leadership’s suggestion it is thrown out. These churches are not churches I argue but social clubs leaning toward cultish behaviors. If you can’t have freedom to suggest or show biblical truth (because we all get off track about something now and again) or have some discussion on your duties, who you answer to, how conflicts are resolved and such.... and only one person calls all the shots with no input, you have tyranny not a body of believers.
You cant say this is a complete teaching on the gifts when the supernatural gifts of I Cor 12 are ignored. This isn't honest representation. Stop deceiving yourself and the church, Mike.
Why my brother and sisters that have the special powers are generally so focused on them. Our focus is Jesus. Forget any gifts, they will come if God intends to.
dude he only has so much time to explain. do you not realize how much he talked about? you left our romans 12 so you would be at fault as well. when listening to mike you have to know what he is talking about and just get the point. you have to bring understanding and not be expecting him to hit every spiritual gift passage in the bible.
Do you Mike not think you are greater than JW's who are preaching the Good news as Jesus promised would take place? Where are all the weeds these days? Where is Babylon the Great that believers must get out of? Revelation 18:4 heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.
What has that got to do with anything? Anything? You cannot make doctrine from imagery. These images employed by John had purpose for believers 2000 years ago - not in our age when so few people can really understand what is being said or has various versions of what it might be. If Jesus wanted the message to be clear in 2018 - He would have ensured it was.

"Dont grow weary of well doing" Blessings to you a you cont to serve Jesus
Preachers = Exhortation
Teachers = Education
Both kinds of pastors are great and we need them both in our churches.
event the title seems interesting....
Tithing is not required. You should give, joyfully, when you can.
Delightful biblical teaching and instruction here! Thank you!
Thanks Mike! This video is really great. I was really excited to stumble upon your teachings. I learned the gifts is this Romans passage as follows:
Perceiver/Prophecy - Focused on pointing out facts
Teacher - Focused on the "whys" behind things
Compassion/Mercy - Focused on bearing the pains of another
Giver - Focused on filling the tangible need of another
Server - Focused on filling any need
Administrator - Focused on the interactions of a group to reach a goal
Exhorter - Focused on encouraging others to move forward
Each gifting has strengths and ways they can be misused. Knowing this has helped me greatly in knowing how to meet people where they are at. I have a passion for wanting believers to know how the Lord has equipped them to function in the body of Christ.
THIS👆👆👆👆right here.... amen!!!!
Mike, another great message full of sound teaching and reverent humility to scripture. Thank you for your obedience in your ministry. If you read this comment, please say a quick prayer for me and clarification of my ministry. Thank you.
Let me stand up and slow clap for 44:28 - 44:40 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is why we don’t need to “tithe” in the sense that the Old Testament means it. Just give with liberality according to your means. Tithing is great to encourage discipline in your finances, but offerings (within and outside the church) led by The Spirit are what we are called to do in the gospel.
Fantastic teaching . Thanks Mike.
I would like to see you cover the gift of discernment.
That was amazing.
God bless you preacher
Thank u. I thought spiritual serving had to be something else. But now I know why God says when u do anything do it in Jesus name. Colossians 3:17
This was confirmation!
Thanks for the message
I love how you break this down Pastor Winger.
Mike: "Don't teach what you don't know"
Me: hits like button
I know I'm late to the party, but that "my pulpit" thing was really funny.
I'm really lucky to have a God who loves me and gives me gifts every day.
It's early in the morning and he's already given me my breakfast.
The Lord God is truly the god of gods, a great god.

I truly love your teaching Mike. God has given you a wonderful gift and I can tell that you love using it. I wish I could attend your church. I do love the church I go to and I'm thankful for it, but it could use a bit more of your teaching style.

Hello my brother, do you also have a video on the Gifts of the Spirit as mentioned in 1 Cor. 12. If you already cover that in this video, it's because I just have it on pause in the beginning of the video. Thank you and God bless you and your family.
Thank you.
well one will have to wait to see how this information, is incorporated, into this fellowship....
Thanks Mike. Great video. From a Calvinist 😉
Mikes prayer at the end:
He redeemed us in the second half, not gonna lie.
First you have to know your spiritual gifts. How I find out? What if I don't have one? Is that possible? Is it just whatever I happen to be good at?
Leviticus 27:30; Proverbs 3:9; Deuteronomy 14:22-26
Hey Mike, do you have a video explaining biblically why a woman should not be an elder? I have had women elders who can teach very well, and their other elder responsibilities; so I am very confused if there is something biblically that supports the notion that this is not something for women.
Try reading 1 Tim 2-3; 1 Peter 3, Ephesians 5:22-33;
In my opinion, teaching is not a problem. Woman’s spiritual authority over men is not found in the Bible. Or maybe someone can show me. But then again in America, this can be considered sexist.
What’s Biden latest statement on LGBTQ in his 1st 100 days?

I speak in tongues everyday

Are we not teaching on the gifts of apostle and prophecy for a reason?
Question about service: are we not all called to serve the church, the body of Christ in some way?
Isn't that what this whole video was about?
Where’s the little voice saying, “Bible thinker!”

That is how God uses a woman is through your gender roles and being a mother....motherhood is a major role not a minor
Hello i am struggling with eating pork, i am told by some priests that it is in the bible that is forbidden to eat pork
levithicus 11.7-8.
deuteronomy 14.8
isaiah 65. 2-5
and jewish religion say no pork either..
jesus said to follow old testement. mathew 5. 7-2
And similar to drinking alcoholic drinks.
thanks.
You don't have to follow dietary laws from the Old Testament, anymore.
@@Disciple-ofChrist thank you.
danny yo we’re not under that law, which is why we read the bible in context. Too many people love to pick out scripture and don’t even know what was going on at that time. You can choose to eat pork or not but neither people should judge each other for it cause there’s no sin involved. Paul said there will be christians different from each other so as long as there is no sin or twisting of scripture, it is okay.
Read Mark 7.
@@borisvandruff7532 thanks, i have stopped eating pork all together. not putting unclean animal in my system.
Which church is teaching and preaching as Jesus required of his followers?
Matthew 7:21
Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.
So what is the will of the most High?
Please note that just like the Torah, the prophets, etc. the sayings of Jesus are not the gospel for the current age of the new creation. For salvation today we look to the writings of Paul who teaches us that justification is on the basis of our faith as a gift from God.
I do not have much interaction with Believers.
You didn't cover all the gifts like Tonges.
He has covered tongues in many videos. And tongues are probably the least of all the gifts, if they even exist to this day.
These are specifically the motivational gifts of Romans 12. Tongues are in the manifestation group of gifts in 1 Cor 12. Hope this was helpful.
How did the Apostles know the Samaritans had not yet "received" the Holy Spirit? (Acts 8)
These people were truly born again, because their baptisms were valid!
Instead of measuring myself against a brother or sister (not wise) I measure against the measuring device that God gave to each person, and that is how effective we are in using our own gift:
Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the [appropriate] measure [standard/ruler/measuring device] of [their] faith.
He says the same here:
2Co 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: **but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise**.
2Co 10:13 But **we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us**, a measure to reach even unto you.
2Co 10:14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
2Co 10:15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
So if you have the gift of service then measure yourself by how much more you serve than the teacher or exhorter does.
Rom 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us evaluate ourselves] according to the proportion of faith;
Rom 12:7 Or ministry, let us [evaluate ourselves by] our ministering: or he that teacheth, [evaluate ourselves by our] teaching;
Rom 12:8 Or he that exhorteth, [evaluate ourselves by] exhortation: he that giveth, [evaluate ourselves by our] simplicity [lack of "strings" attached to our gift]; he that ruleth, [evaluate ourselves by how well we practice] diligence; he that sheweth mercy, [evaluate ourselves by our] cheerfulness [as opposed to begrudging].
This saves us from two ways of thinking unsoberly:
* thinking we're great because we excel in an area that others don't
* thinking we're a failure because we *don't* excel in an area that others do
There are celebrities in the body of Christ and that is by design. It is also by design that other gifts have less or even no celebrity:
1Co 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
1Co 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
1Co 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
Our mouths are always front and center. Our feet are crucial but rarely attract attention for their crucial but thankless job. Some extremely vital parts of our physical bodies never even see the light of day!

As we are in the end times should not the body know who they are?
1 Corinthians 11:28, 29
.First let a man approve himself after scrutiny, and thus let him eat of the loaf and drink of the cup. For he that eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment against himself if he does not discern the body.
The eating and drinking of the seder is only for the Jews because of God's new covenant with the houses of Israel and Jakob:
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a *new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah*:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law [Torah] in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Jer 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:
Jer 31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.
1 John 4:
We originate with God. Whoever comes to know God listens to us; whoever does not originate with God does not listen to us. By this we distinguish the inspired statement of truth from the inspired statement of error.
He was not speaking about your cult leaders but rather to the apostles themselves.
Do you mean the cult of the Nazarene? No Jesus was saying those at the end times would have to ask themselves who is the one dispensing the food at the proper time do you not know the answer to that question ?
who makes disciples....anywhere.....
Can we give grudgingly until our heart gets in line? 😂 just kidding... well kinda 😂
James Jah Avey - is it because there is no 'J' in Hebrew, so JW's who have insisted on addressing God as Jehovah have been wrong for all these years?
evidently, in Hebrew...the word is YHWH....and no vowels....any attempt to put in vowels is just a guess....and as mentioned here...the J was not even in existence....as a side note the Y....in certain Spanish dialects has a J sound....this is just an attempt to make the word to be pronounced...
in the day....so to speak....it was apt, to teach....and, for better, or worse....we taught....then it went by the wayside...and some outsider was brought in....and those conferences....oh yes....it was another outsider.....ergo....it started off good and then changed....
The fruit of the spirit? What are the gifts of the spirit? I don't want to watch the whole video.
Prophecy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Leadership, Mercy, Word of wisdom, Word of knowledge, Faith, Gifts of healings, Miracles, Prophecy, Distinguishing between spirits, Tongues, Interpretation of tongues....
It’s worth it. Watch it!!
Whether you are a boy or a girl? It is strange how people interpret the bible. You could say "women should wear head coverings and I would not suffer a woman to teach" and people are like.... yeah no they can teach and don't need to cover their head.
first! haha beat ya doug ;-P
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit after the traditions of men after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ
a large part, of the issue....is the attitude of the leadership....and most leadership seems to want people to be passive....as most Churches are just preprogrammed....and you have no input in it...
Revelation 18:4
heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.
