Honda recalled these vehicles for headlight failures related to the combination switch and its connector about 7 years ago. The recall did not permanently fix the problem. Just replacing the switch and connector will buy you some time but it will probably fail again. The problem is related to the design of the headlight and running light circuit. The entire current load of the headlights is run through the combination switch. It's about 12 amps, which is too much current for that little switch and connector to handle. Eventually the excess current will cause heat damage to the new switch and connector and the lights will fail again. My wife had this happen. Her 2001 Honda Civic had the recall work done but the lights were going off again when she was driving it at night. The last time the lights failed she went off the road. The way I fixed it was to add a 30 amp relay to carry all the headlight current instead of the switch. Now all the switch on the steering column does is switch the relay for high and low beam. After doing this all the combination switch is doing is powering the relay coil, which draws about 200 ma. Its now been several years and the headlights have never failed again.

This was quite helpful. Even more reassuring is not having to pull the steering wheel on these to get to the switch like you do on some cars.
Something important to mention though: depending on the trim (such as my 2011 LX), you may also need to pull out the trim panel that holds the AC vent on the left side. Unless you do that, it's in the way of the switch and prevents it from being removed. There's another Phillips screw at the bottom of it; unscrew that and then the rest of it is just more clips that pop out. Don't worry about removing the filter; just set the panel off to the side and you should have enough room to get the switch out.
Another tip about getting the switch out: unclip the wiring harness first, then slide the switch out with the electrical connector still on it. It's a lot easier to get the connector off of the old switch that way.

This would cost at least $500 at any Honda dealer. Thanks a lot.

+muna zarin This is a headlight switch and you will need to match up the specifications to your exact vehicle to locate the correct one for your application.

On my 2008 Honda Civic I had to remove the plastic that holds the left air vent to allow the removal of the combination switch. One screw and pop it off.
