I knew someone that stored Pokémon cards by using a hole punch on them and putting them into a ring binder.

In late 2019, my father told me he would get me some cards while he was in Italy (I live in the US). He has always liked tins, so when he called me, he said they had 2 at the card shop. When he was describing them, I figured out that one was the Jaden tin which he did get, but another he said was blue, but he couldn't tell me more because he couldn't read the language. I had no idea, assumed the bluish gray Yusei.
When he came back, he gave me the Jaden tin and a 2013 Tidal Dragon Ruler tin, which had a Redox and Blaster in the boosters.
Tidal tin is also the rarest of the dragon ruler tins because everyone wanted it as it had BLS as promo

I loved before COVID when you could go into a Walmart and find the MTG repacks with old commander decks in them. I regret never buying any, especially since most of the old commander decks now go for hundreds of dollars
That's almost exclusively what mine has for MTG right now in cubes for 60 bucks a pop for two commander decks and some randoms, according to the insert.
When I was younger, a friend of the family was moving away so he gave me his entire yugioh collect that he had since the start of the game. There where about 4 binders full of mostly pack filler like Ekibyo Drakmord, but the standout was a secret rare Slifer the Sky Dragon from 2003.
I found a dds blue eyes white dragon at a friends house and even after learning about the price of it he let me keep it.

I live within an hour of that Walmart. If this gets enough likes I'll recruit a band of misfits and go find the One Piece.

Back when Dollar General had cards, or more specifically, just after they stopped selling them, I found a lone 3 card pack under the trading card display, and decided, why not, and bought it. Opened it and was met with a prize card replica, specifically the Legendary Dragon of White
I worked at dollar general when they first started selling them, the first pack I opened had an Injection fairy lily, the second had freed the matchless, the third had another Injection fairy, four and fifth had two more freed the matchless, I was hooked after that. 2.60 a pack. We also got in errored boxes of LOD unlimited 1/24 filled with miss- cut cards, but they didn't have any supers or ultras in them. Later I found out that those boxes were ridiculously rare, so rare that even a youtuber that was collecting every different sealed Yugioh box at any price couldn't find one. The contents of the box contained several sharp cornered cards and two slightly oversized cards, they would have been great for cheating if you were raw dogging your cards.
Those cut cards were just Arkana getting his deck ready to face Yugi Muto
I remember my local Toys R Us was shutting its doors for good and on the final week a friend of mine found Leo and Luna tins near the checkout.
Oddly well timed considering I just dug through some old boxes of YuGiOh cards from my childhood. Of note were first editions of various E-heroes, a Dark Magician signed by Kazuki Takahashi, and a first edition Legend of Blue Eyes Right Leg of The Forbidden One.
Went to a local game exchange that sold a bunch of bulk cards, and I ended up finding like 6 secret rares, and like 3 Stardust Charge Warriors. Got em all, and some other stuff, for like 3 bucks because they were just in the bulk area and each card was 15 cents. I go online to check and my pick up was around 50 bucks worth all together. Not as crazy as these other ones, but still cool to me.
Theres a Walgreens near my house that sold (at least used to) old structure decks. I picked up the 5d's Endymion structure, the 5d's Machina structure deck and the six samurai structure from there. I asked one of the employees and apparently they get sent alot of the unsold products from other Walgreens in the area.
Imagine walking into a store and finding an unopened, first-wave release of Dark Duel Stories.
I found a store that ALSO had these tins for sale for $20, but I opened it because it was the first tin I ever opened as a child and wanted to go back to 2014. I opened a Spellbook of Judgment. Less than a year before it got unbanned.
Friends went to a store near the Mexican-US border and found some Yugi structure decks 1st ed still sealed. They were beat up, but still sealed with the millenium eye tape and only $30. So I had them pick me up one and I opened it because I wanted the card destruction for my max value goat deck :).
The closest I have to a story like this wasn't nearly as crazy. I simply walked into a Shopper's Drug Mart near my house in late 2018, and they had a bunch of structure decks for sale. Including one copy of Dinosmasher's Fury, over 16 months after it was released, at standard structure deck price. A couple of months later I went back, it was still there, and I bought it. SRs and URs were curled but that one structure deck led to me getting back into the game from late 2018 until COVID hit and I dropped the game again.
I found three Dino structure decks at a bum fuck Walmart. No idea what Im going to do with them. But I have them? 😂
I found a sealed booster box of crossroads of chaos at Walmart for like $60, pulled a ghost rare black rose and a bunch of other really cool stuff out of it.
I remember having a ghost rare ancient fairy dragon but because I was a dumb 11 year old who didn't know what value was I put it with my pile of cards I accidentally left behind after my family moved
Damn. All these stories are so much cooler than me finding a Babuska in the bulk section of my LGS because it was a common.
Missed this thread which was a shame because in 2019 while I was attending college in Texas City, I walked into a Walmart and found a MSRP priced noble knights of the round table Boxset at 50 dollars, complete with my invitation to 2015 worlds
That set us now worth 300 dollars sealed. Whoops
A random girl in my class that I was on good terms with noticed I was interested in Yu-Gi-Oh and just randomly gave me a few of her old cards.
One of them being a secret rare Maxx C that was near mint despite not having any protection.
It was also in english even though we live in Germany.
Pretty neat.
Still waiting for it to come off the list to get the cash.
My local Wal Mart hat Tins of Ancient Battles when they had been sold out everywhere else for like a week. For some reason that Wal Mart has the weirdest TCG stuff, usually things that have been completely sold out elsewhere or just discontinued.
Back at my elementary school there was a system in place where you could spend "points" you earned for good behavior to spend on various prizes, including a massive box of Yugioh cards (the only restriction was that you could only buy 3 per day). Since I was new to the series back then I bought cards that just looked cool or were from the anime, but now the idea of some super-valuable or rare card being glossed over by me haunts me to this day.
My mom’s friend had a bunch of bulk from the early Xyz era and let us have it. I found an ulti Leviair in it
I almost got it in on time, but my find is theres this market near me and I found this guy selling what I think are the first ever tins for like 35 each, gave them all to me for 80. Certainly not mint and already opened but he was not lying when he sold it. Everything in there was sleeved and even had some extra cause a few cards were from the old starter decks.
The tins had joey and jinzo, joey and red eyes, and yugi and summoned skull on them. Nothing valuable I dont think, but it was a looot of genuine vintage cards that I don't regret getting.
Here in southeast asia, i searched for specific cards at online market, and founded an original TCG UR Apoqliphort Towers just for Rp 30.000 (less than 3 dollars) in a perfect condition. Since its my favourite card, gotta say im very blissful
Also, YGO in Indonesia was not officially marketed until rhis year. Finding this without going to international commerce is quite great

3:30 oh my god! I had the “Ripped Pants” SpongeBob episode, so that song is *never* leaving the back recesses of my brain. But, I also had those *exact* Yugioh episodes on my GBA, too. I watched it so many times that, when I watched through DM again a few years ago, I knew every line from them, and it felt like coming home. It legitimately made me emotional.
Sports cards store near me had 2 of the original Dark Magician Girl tins from back in 2006.
Though in Magic, I found one of those plastic "Put together from structure decks that didn't sell" boxes at Target, and it had the Demonic half of Divine vs. Demonic in it.
But our winner is my friend's wife, who bought a box of cards from Goodwill that happened to have a Beta Plateau in it. Beat to hell, but still very playable.
I've still got my Secret Dragon Rulers from those tins. The tins were all my walmart had, so i bought them whenever they had them. I've got 5 Secret Blasters, 4 Secret Tempest, 6 Tidals and 4 Redox.

In like 2022, my wife and I went to a bookstore after a date. She was on the fiction aisle to get novels she really liked. Me, being a weeb, went straight to the manga section. The manga section where I'm from usually don't has the most recent and popular releases. But then I found, sitting randomly in the back among a sea of BL manga, was a copy of Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V. It was the volume with Yuri on the cover and it was still sealed and had the free card inside. It was Odd-Eyes Phantasm Dragon. I don't think think it's a particularly good card, but being a huge Arc-V fan, I was so glad that I got it.
In 2020 I had just found a place to play IRL, so I went to Walmart with $100 to help me improve my Pure "Danger!" deck. I found 2 2017 Kaiba tins marked to $15 each, 2 2018 Jaden tins marked to $15 each, and I snagged 1 Duel Power to round out the hundo. I got my Sanaphond, My 2 N'tss(Which were exploded in price over $20 each) My 2 Mudragon of the Swamp, and I pulled an entire playset of Evenly Matched that day.(2 Secret, 1 Ultra) I also pulled a Secret Rare Starving Venom Fusion Dragon. I was an incredibly happy individual that day.
One day me and my friend went to a random shop and asked if they had some ygo products, the guy says "it's a lot I don't get ygo stuff, lemme check" and pulls out a fucking onslaught of the fire kings structure deck. This happened last summer

My craziest finds from Walmart back in 2019 was special edition Duelist Genissis, Crimson Crisis n Shadow Spectors and I also found 3 1st Edition Tactical Evolution packs, 2 1st Edition Light Of Destruction n 4 or 5 TP 4 all these just chilling on the shelf and all for just under $100 best part went back week later they had 3 more Duelist Genisis special editions

I have a BLS that came out of Dark Revelations V2 I recently found while cleaning. While the price for it has dropped its still is worth a decent amount.
I bought a few packs from a gas station in 07-08? Stopped playing yugioh til 2021. Between that my house got torn down and a few days befor i found my old yuguoh cards. When i started playing again a lot of people pointed out the air neos i had. I didnt know the tale that one card would send me on.
Growing up in a small town in Germany in Bum-Fudge Bavaria, we dont have that many options to even get Yugioh cards, without leaving the city, infact the only store then sells them is called "Müller" which is a drugstore that also sells toys, consols, games, beverages, etc. for some reason.
And since not alot of people buy these cards, they sometimes. When I was home a few weeks ago and visited the store. There were packs of "Dark Saviors, Hidden Summoners, Savage Strike, Rising Rampage, Dark Neostorm, Rising Rage and Chaos Impact there. I asked the employes how thats possible and apperently they still have them in stock, because they never seel all of them to put them on the shelves whenever there is free space.
In like 2015, i found a first ed pharaohs servant pack at a walmart in a third party repackage blister. Only had a rare but still the coolest thing I have found in a store.
Not really that big and shocking but here in Bulgaria the only structure decks they sell are HEROs, Blue-Eyes, and Cyber. What a meta.

My friend lives in Japan and she went to a recycle shop today- she found the 25th anniversary Kaiba briefcase with the three BEWDs and replica of Kaiba's deck where every card is a foil for HALF the retail price, in perfect condition. It normally runs $400 USD but she ended up buying it for about $200 USD. She just sent me pics and god I'm so jealous!
As a child, in the mid 2000's i found a Theinen the Great Sphinx, loose unsleeved on the shelf of the card section of walmart and just took it home.
In like 2012 my mother who found a table with bunch of yugioh a duel masters cards. Turned out it belonged to local card shop owner whose store we used to go to buy duel masters cards. The shop had went out of business and the owner was selling leftovers at a small flea market. They had like an entire booster box of the second last duel masters tcg box released, plus some other old and newer DM packs. There were also just random yugioh booster like legend of blue eyes, pharaonic guardian, cyberdark impact taped into bigger piles and the boosters were like 1e per booster. She left her number to the cashier there to call whenever the table owner bought more duel masters and yugioh stuff in. Me and my brothers went there several times and prolly bought most of the cards brought there. We had a field day opening up them all

I think my two best finds were a crossroads of chaos box at walmart (2016ish) marked at 24.99, snagged it got ulti and ultra plague out of it. Then during the secret forces (nekroz side set) there was a receipt "hack" on zoodiac duelist where everyone was copping packs for $0.34 per pack and i snagged 40-50 packs. Easiest nekroz deck of my life for $30.
I found Rush Duels while browsing the Nintendo Eshop. The concept of the game is solid. But I cant seem to get my hands on irl cards. /shrug

coolest things ive found were my 3 misprinted cards (erebus from the old premade deck, a topaz tiger and a senko the skybolt star both from the same pack just recently) and a chthonian soldier promo from the toy collection which i found in a box of cards i bought off facebook
should mention all three of the misprints are that while you can clearly see where the names would be and see a faint outline of it there is no ink at all so they have no name
No photo of phsical evidence but one time as kids me and my friends were heading home and at the train station and on the ground under the station we saw an Elemental Hero Tera Firma. The catch? This was BEFORE the official release in the tcg, To this day have no idea if it was a fake, an ocg card, or some secret lost promo or whatever. Sadly we were too small at the time to jump the fence to grab it so we'll never know
Back in GX era, my dad was walking in a local game store looking for a birthday present for me. He saw, in a plexiglass case, a copy of Ojama King for $100. He said fuck that and got me like 5 packs of cards instead. I pulled a playset of Ojama King. Not sure why it was so expensive in the first place.
I bought 5 blista packs of Battles of Legend Armageddon from a target once and I pulled a ten thousand dragon out of them. I literally screamed
When i worked at a thrift store i found a bin of someones old base set pokemon collection. And while it wasnt first ed or shadowless, i found a $200 charizard card and i display on my shelf to this day.
Dude, back when Shopko was still around, you could go in to almost any of them and just find the craziest Yugioh stuff. I may have single handedly caused there bankruptcy with the amount of yugioh product that was constantly discounted and then use my mom's coupons to pickup hundreds of dollars worth of sealed packs, decks, legendary collections, etc for literally 0 dollars because you could just keep reusing coupons. And they'd just keep sending more each week despite me basically never paying more than a few pennies for most of it. When they inevitably were closing down and started to discount all Cards I was able to pickup MTG and Pokemon sets that were like years old for half off MSRP. 2018 was insane!

Being a huge nerd with way too much money to spend, I naturally bought one for 300 dollars to draft with some friends as a joke. We then managed to pull like ten merchant scrolls back when they were like 20 bucks. Still the Best/Worst tcg purchase I've made in my life

And I proceeded to open them without knowing that they have an 80$ price tag.

I go pick it up, it's the wrong product! It was a legendary duelist season 2 box and I was like hey what happened? Turns out the branch closed so nobody gave a fuck about the correct names. That box was going for $26 before tax online.
Anyways I pull a blue eyes alternative ultra and an abyss dragon secret from it. Good times.

Around 2015 the card section at my local grocery store had a box of yugi’s and joey’s world mega packs sold individually for five bucks each. Most of them were first ed, too. Dark paladin, Sagan, solemn judgement, 2 tts all in secret were some of my pulls. Heck, even the super dragon master knights were like 5-10 bucks due to the lack of reprints at the time

Not a very valuable one but in 2017, during the middle of SPYRAL tier zero, I went on a trip to America with my family, and was exposed to a Walmart for the first time. I bought a couple of packs of Circuit Break there and pulled a Double Helix in one, which was super neat as a kid who was just starting to understand what all this "meta" stuff was about.
Another story was when my younger sister was out and coming home from something - she stopped in some local toy shop and got some Invasion:Vengeance and pulled a Toad out of that one, which I unironically consider one of my prized possessions

While I was a kid we had everything, from fake to real yugioh cards everywhere in my country. One year, I couldnt be older than maybe 11-12 (so around 9-10 years ago) I was walking with my parents on a flee market and saw some cards for cheap (was around 3-4 dollars maybe) Years later (by years I mean maybe 1-2 years ago) I realised that, in the sea of fake cards and trash, there was many PHANTOM DARKNESS cards in there, among which there were 2 DADs just chilling. When I told my mom that those cards were around 600 bucks a piece back then when i got them she lost her mind

back during storm of ragnarok I was really into yugioh as a kid and found a very old gold pack with dark magician of chaos. bought it and found a zera the mant which I thought had a funny name and was the first ritual I had with its spell card. I don't think it was very valuable and I have no idea if that pack was some reprint but it was a part of my childhood that meant something to me
I remember back in like 2015-2016 times my local walmart still had invasion of chaos, sometimes even 1st edition. I wanted a particular slifer art from a friend and he wanted my chaos emperor, so i went out and grabbed some of those and pulled a chaos emperor from like 3 packs.
Back in 2010, my LGS had 18 Force of the Breaker (my second favorite set after Metal Raiders) sealed blisters for $1.50 each (said LGS would occasionally buy up unsold major retailer stock on the cheap and pass the discounts on). I bought all of them and pulled 2 Raiza, a Volcanic Rocket, an ulti Topaz Tiger, a Sapphire Pegasus, a Radiant Mirror Force, and 2 Tri-Blaze Accelerators. Probably my best pack luck ever...and I spent under $30 to get all of it.
Theres a vending machine in my area that FOR SOME REASON is regularly refilled with 5ds era packs for $2.50 each. I go every few days to see if they restocked and buy out the entire row of cards

Years ago, my brother and I were at Dollar Tree and they had LOB packs in just a shelf bin. For $1 each. My brother and I bought all of them. Downside, they were Spanish. This was the first time I owned a Raigeki.

About 5 years ago I found a discount priced special edition with Heroic Champion - Excalibur on the pack I can't remember the name of the pack itself and in my 2nd pack I pulled Excalibur Ultra rare not 1st Edition but still an amazing find also Walmart bring back the cubes from 2015 those were really fun to open up and the holo's weren't bad and a few days ago I found an E.H. Steam Healer from Duelist Pack Jaden only $7 and I also found an o.g. Red Eyes Starter deck Joey only $10
That last one really deserved the Lavender Town music.
