    You claimed in the video that David Seigel visited the International Resort Hotel when he was six years old. He was was born in 1935. I don't think the International Hotel was there in 1941.

    • @Dani702
      @Dani702  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dang. Thanks for that correction. I meant to say "when the international was 6, David visited the resort". I'm sorry I didn't catch that in editing.

    One more bit of trivia. The International/Las Vegas Hilton served as the White House hotel and resort that featured in the James Bond movie, “Diamonds are Forever.” That was the last of the Eon-produced Bond movies starring Sean Connery.

      Most of the interior casino scenes were shot inside the Riviera, though. On another side note, when I stayed at Circus Circus in May, they still had the same water gun balloon game that can be seen in Diamonds Are Forever!

    WOW I still haven't seen the hotel since it was the Hilton. In the early 90's I was a ironworker working on the sign. The sign there now is what they settled on after a very large windstorm. The sign was 2 times larger then what it is now. When we almost topped out the iron on the mega sign a huge windstorm came that night. We came back the next morning to see most of the structure had fallen over. Love your guys videos.
    Thank you Christian

    Another great review. My husband and I were regulars there when it was the Hilton. We went at least 3 times a year. We always had a room with a view of the sign. We practically watched it being built. We moved to Paris with our host when it opened after Park Place Entertainment bought it and the other properties which are now all CET properties. The Flamingo was the Flamingo Hilton at the same time of the LVH.

    Good to know about the resort. Westgate is offered to us through our timeshare brokerage of Interval Intl. (II). • @ThamiumOne
    @ThamiumOne 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dani - sometime if you do another visit, you could try asking for some brief time to actually go into the showroom itself (as long as there's no show or rehearsing going on) and take a few minutes to look around - if you get the right people, they may even let you roam backstage and the dressing room areas. Those are mostly unchanged from the Elvis era, and there's even a section of original floorboards backstage where most of the performers, Elvis included, would wait for the cue to go on. You can walk those same steps over to center stage - Very surreal experience, you should try it!

    Wayne Newton
    In the early 1950s( that doesn't age me, does it?) the Fox theater in Phoenix had a kids show on saturday morning. The show featured: news of the world, cartoons, an adventure serial, an amateur show, and a cowboy movie(Roy Rogers was king). The amateur show always featured(about) 10 and 12 year old Wayne and Jerry Newton, and the whole thing cost......10 cents.
    The Newton Bros also played PTA school meetings and any place else they could get and audience, which is how they became a professional act so early. In 1958 the Newton Bros became a lounge act in Las Vegas, although the were still teenagers.Wayne is still in Vegas, although his voice left years ago. Originally Wayne and Jerry sang duets with almost identical voices, but Jerry's voice changed to a baritone and he couldn't sing anymore. Wayne's voice never changed(?).
    In 1969 I went to a concert in Phoenix with my girlfriend, who loved Elvis. At the end of the show they announced " ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING" to keep the female fans from screaming for more encores and leave the building themselves.

    • @Dani702
      @Dani702  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know much about Wayne Newton but I'm super interested in his story. I love how he is still in Vegas after all these years. One of these days I hope to tour Casa de Shenandoah.

    The first time I went to Las Vegas I stayed at the Hilton. I took a TWA 747 from JFK. They had a open bar and a piano player on the flight. I was given a room with a view of the mountains. I saw Moma Cass in the casino. It was packed. Elvis was appearing, but his shows were sold out. Vegas was at its best. I could afford everything. Shows, food, hotels and so on and still had money to gamble. Steak and egg breakfasts for $3.99. And you could play Keno as you ate. Over the years I have seen Vegas decline. Over building, over pricing and now even charging for parking. I used drive from one casino to another and park at the casino I was visiting.
    Las Vegas is headed for the wall. Some of the older hotels used to be so great. The Excalibur was one. I stayed there twice and had great rooms and facilities. It's now ranked as sub par. Yet this hotel is in a prime area. The Monte Carlo , I stayed twice at, is in the same category. It has now has changed names. Circus, Circus was always a dive. Yet it still is operating. I needed a hotel for one night coming back from the Grand Canyon. They were doing construction and stuck my family in a building in back of the hotel that was pretty bad. They refunded half of the room rate, but rest assure it's a place I wouldn't even walk thru again. Last time I got a time share exchange about four miles off the strip. It was a complex of high rise buildings. We got an apartment with a full kitchen and bathroom. The views were great as well. There was a great Casino next door that had everything we needed. We were able to drive to the strip and park free to see a show.

    Fascinating story (even though I dislike anything to do with Elvis anything as I was an extra in the movie Honeymoon in Las Vegas which had dozens of Elvis Wannabe's...got totally sick and burned out with anything Elvis)).... I still enjoyed your tour and narrative, thanks!

    Great video, I love how you always research historical facts for each one. The Westgate was my first Las Vegas hotel in April 2018. I didn't realize what a long walk it was to the strip. It was kind of a pain walking to anywhere close like the SLS and stratosphere. I did find the lobby and casino to be somewhat classy compared to a lot of the downtown casinos. The Westgate Sportsbook is one of the most amazing rooms I have ever seen.

    i liked this resort when it was the hilton. had a nice modern 70's charm to it. that westgate name is cheap looking and sounding

    I heard it couldn't maintain the high end level of a Hilton hotel so that's why it lost its prestigious Hilton name years ago.

    Other than the history of this place and Benihana, this place is by far the WORST resort I have stayed at in Las Vegas. I continually recommend others to only visit it, but don't stay here.
