The Rio was my intro to Las Vegas in 1995. I stayed there again in 1997, 2002 and 2005. I loved everything about it: the pool, the rooms, the Voodoo Lounge, the free carnival show, and the Carnival World Buffet, which was the greatest buffet - ever! Fast forward to the last time I stayed there in 2016, for a Star Trek convention, and wow, was I disappointed. The rooms had deteriorated: uncomfortable beds, water stained furniture, clogged sinks, no hot water, smelly, and the sign out front was broken!!! I'm so glad that they broke away from Caesar's and the new owners are bringing it back to life! Looks like it will regain some its former glory! 🎉🎉
I really hope they keep up the improvements. This is a huge property with so much potential and I hope they keep it budget friendly and keep up the comps to their rewards members.
I was at the Rio in its heyday. The international buffet was huge and amazing. The masquerade in the sky parade was super fun. I’m glad it’s back and didn’t close.
The Rio was the place to be when it was first built and owned by Anthony Marnell. When it was sold, is when it started to go down hill. The buffets, the free show and the sky show with the beads made the whole casino floor a great experience. Didn’t see table games in the video or mentioned, unless I didn’t hear it. Was a good place and hope it can be revived to be a great place again.
I couldn't get a clean shot of the tables without showing people that were activity gaming. The section was small but seemed busy all the time. Even when I went down to the gym at 6am. I took out my little piece about the gaming since I didn't care for my footage of it. The masquerade tower area was pretty quiet (which is pretty much any slot area I showed since it was clear) but the section in the updated tower had a decent amount of people playing the whole stay. We played a little as well. Cocktail servers made a few rounds too!
My first trip to Las Vegas was back in 1995!! We went to the RIO then, hung out, and went to the Buffet. The Buffet was the best thing ever then. I still remember some of the food I had then... it was amazing. Went back to the RIO in 2005 and it really went downhill... and the Buffet was nothing like it was 10 years earlier. I haven't been back since. Your room looks amazing and that view! I am happy to hear that they are fixing things up there. I'd like to see Vegas building up 'off-strip' hotels/casinos and building new ones also. It's odd that 'the strip' is so built up and where everybody goes. Great video!
With Hyatt Globalist status (60 nights a year) you get waived resort fees and breakfast in Hash House A GoGo for up to 4 people (2 adults and 2 children). I’ve gone a few times and stayed for 4 nights for $100. Hopefully they will open all the pools all week long. Seeing the Rio came back to life is awesome!

Rio was my favorite place to stay for about 20 years. Stayed there 80 times and had 60 winning trips playing craps and blackjack. Eventually they decided not to comp me any more. Love the place and I’m glad it’s coming back. I’m pushing 80 now so I don’t know if I’ll get back but I hope I can.
was there in 2002 when i was 17, got to see penn and teller.... lots of memories made in vegas with my parents... havent been since 2014... its wild to see how much the strip has changed... im glad to see they updated the rio instead of tearing it down...

I was staying at the Rio during the same time you guys were - I asked the lifeguard about the pool complex, and he said that they are all supposed to be heated, but only one of the pools has the heater working right now. Still a work in progress. Good news is I was upgraded to one of the "older" suites in the Masquerade tower - 1,600 sq ft and the best view I've ever had at a hotel. Place is promising - 6 months to a year from now hopefully all the construction is done, and the heated pools are back!

But, YT should tell their viewers if they received anything free, and most important, they should pay for anything, and not try to sneak in for free! Rio was the unquestioned prime off-Strip hotel/resort back in the day. It really went to seed over the past couple of decades and covid only made it worse. Good to see it hopefully making a comeback.

I could only hope the Carnival in the Sky would make some sort of return. That would make the Rio absolutely perfect...that and the seafood buffet. Oh well, one can dream. Penn and Teller is a pretty fun show. The most impressive part: they stay and meet and greet everyone in the lobby after the show!! Love the fact the Rio is coming back to life. I hope it continues. Side note: There's something about this video that set it aside from your other videos, Dani. The editing? The presentation? I can't put my finger on it...but excellent video. Worth the wait from the delay. Lol
I wish the carnival would come back. Even one show a week would be fun. Thank you! It might be that I didn't feel rushed since I had two nights. When I do one night, I feel pressured to get everything in but I was able to take my time. Also had more time editing since I had issues with my program and let myself skip the week.
I just came back from Vegas a few days ago and stopped by the Rio. The pool area and the casino floors were hugely improved and they also host the show ‘Wow’, which I really enjoyed. Also it was pretty crowded for a Wednesday night. Glad the improvements are bringing in business.
Rio was our first las vegas hotel stay back in 2021. We were upgraded to a top floor room. What they didn't tell us was the landing area for the zipline was above our room. Every 10/15 minutes you would hear this loud stomping sound.
Two memories of Rio: someone recommended the Brazil/Carnaval-themed dinner show they used to have so my wife and I went on one of our early visits to Vegas in the 90s. It was a good deal, like $30 a head, I think. Also enjoyed their Mardi Gras in the Sky Show (something like that) and we got beads; second memory was a guy trip where we were at Bellagio and walked to Rio because it didn’t look that far (duh) and it started to rain HARD. Ah, good times. Haven’t thought about going back in a long time because I heard it had gone downhill, but now looks like it may be worth a visit. Thanks for the look, Dani and Eddie.

Dani I loved this video. I stayed at the Rio in 2003. At that time they were tied to Harrahs. There used to be a shuttle bus between them that ran pretty frequently. I loved the Rio. I remember the pool setup a little differently. My heart aches to see the Mardi Gras parade in the sky again. It was so cool. That view from the top is the best you are going to get in Vegas w/o paying an arm and a leg. But mostly I miss the buffet. We would go in there for a late breakfast. There was a 30 minute time period between breakfast and lunch. They used to let you stay "for free". So we would eat breakfast, hang out and drink tea or coffee and then have lunch. Then we were good until dinner time. I returned a couple years later just for the buffet and casino and they had this bar called "The Beach" with bikini clad bar tenders and card dealers. The Rio was great. Hopefully it will find even a sliver of it's old self once again. Thanks for a great video.
Literally the best buffet I have ever been to. I don't know anyone that's says different that has been. So weird that they took it out. The beach sounds fun!! I hope they keep improving the resort. Rewards and values their clients and decent prices for a nice room and pool is a huge plus for me.
@@Dani702 And I forgot to add that the walk to the strip isn't that bad and it puts you right by Mandalay Bay and Bellagio. I remember the interview I saw with the guy who built the place years ago. One of the things he said was that they put a fridge in every room because he didn't think it was right to not give his guests the ability to have their own drinks in their rooms if they wanted w/o paying the resort prices for bottles of water and sodas. So the place was built with heart. I don't think you can say that about many places in Vegas.
I was there two weeks ago and my website offer was a comp room for three nights but I had to pay the resort fees. I think my total was $136 (for three nights) and that was also in the Ipanema tower. There was great improvement on the property but they still had a ways to go. The room and pool area were excellent though! It's a huge value and I think I will do it again in August. That's a great deal! The room and pool are top! I'd go back for sure for that alone. Our 2nd night we did stuff around the china town (1-2 blocks away) and enjoyed a few new spots that we will be back for!
When I was living in Vegas the Rip was still popping with the clubs and bars but later fell to the new strip attractions back in like 2012-2018 those were the days ! But I always liked the Rio

Excellent! I booked a Deluxe King/highfloor/stripview room for the Star Trek convention August 1st for a couple nights and it was extremely cheap. I was a little concerned from hearing things over the years about Rio but your review gives me relief! Thanks! The last time I stayed at the Rio was probably the mid 90's and yeah it was pretty darn cool back then.
There was zero nightlife during your stay? Definitely a poker mecca as well too. Glad that they updated rooms, honestly the Palms across the street is a great place to spend time even if you stay at Rio, excellent restaurants and classier.

Absolutely! When we do one night, I feel pressured to get everything for the video in that short amount of time. Pool normally goes after check out and we have to change in the bathroom lol. But it was sooooo nice to take my time and also get to enjoy a night without the camera. 😃😃😃

So happy they are renovating the RIO. Although we never stayed we spent many hours gambling, shows and eating back in the 90s. Hope they consider bringing back the FREE shuttle at some point. The rooms and views look amazing. Thanks for the video….You never disappoint 💯

I was there two weeks ago and did a little gambling. Next thing I know, they are offering me 4 comp'd nights with no taxes or resort fees. I'll be back August 27. ALL FREE! The Ipanema room as well. Every room should have two sinks. Love this. That is a nice view. Hoping my view is as good. Will make for a great timelapse. This is a great video, thank you very much. Looking forward to the VooDoo Lounge. Some great looking cocktails, I also received some food comps for RIO. I guess I am going to the VooDoo Lounge. Tony Luke's had an awesome Steak & Cheese sub. Highly recommended. We played KISS mini golf. We were all a bit intoxicated, so of course it was hilarious. Starbucks is cheaper. lol Can't say that too often. lol Thanks for this great video.
That is so excellent! Spots like this that care about the guest and rewards members just hit home. Our server at voodoo and both front desk employees we talked too were excellent. Our rooms were free but we spent a good amount on food, drinks, and even did some gaming (cocktail server was on point with the free drinks lol) I'd go back in a heartbeat to experience the other spots too with their constant room deals. Pool and room were too tier for us considering the price.

Dani: turn the fan on low and the temp to like 65, it'll keep the fan on without the on/off jump nonsense. Also, asmr. I use it as background white noise and tapers through the noise. Love the video

I always stayed at the Rio...Seafood buffet was the best!...the show in the sky was cool and the tall ceilings in the casino made it alot less smokey...always gave me a suite room for free when I came...then it went to shit...stopped going....I heard they sold and are renovating which makes me happy but heard bed bugs were a problem right now so not sure
You should turn the fan to "fan on" so it doesn't shut off -- "Auto" makes it so it turns on and off frequently when the temperature falls below the temp set point. If you choose between low-medium or high speed for the fan setting, the fan will run continuously at the noise level that doesn't bother you as much. Close the drapes and set the fan speed and temperature to 60 right away when you first check into the room, so while you are gone so it cools down the room before you return for resting.
I did! That is always the first thing I do at hotels because I hate a stuffy room. It kept swinging back to auto no matter how many times I placed the fan on 'on'.
@@Dani702they have a building automation system - so they are resetting the air when you are gone, some even have motion sensors built into the T-Stats. 😡
Great to see the Rio making a comeback, that was the place at one time, had the best Seafood Buffet, Parties or Celebrations were always happening, even Creed showed up and filmed a music video up in the Voodoo Club rooftop.. looks like still a lot more work to do but definitely on right track.. will be interesting to see what becomes on the weekend pool music addition, maybe like flamingo's pool parties...hope you enjoyed your stay looked fairly nice..
We honestly had a great time. I would absolutely go back for the room and pool along with the room pricing and in room fridge! I'm keeping my eye on the opening of the lobby lounge and hoping more at the voodoo lounge.
I dig the 21 and over pools out there. However, one does have to be careful as there's a reason it's 21+ with some as there are topless sunbathing locations. I was walking around checking out the pool area at one of the resorts doing filming and when I got to the top of the area at the pool, woah boy. So while some may not mind, for others, when in these areas check to see if where you are that's a thing so you can avoid it. Great video and I just can't wait to get back to Vegas! Love seeing these sites.

If it's the indoor shots, it's the low light on my camera phone which is crap. Casinos don't mind when I film in my phone but i get stopped when I pull out my good camera which is much better in low light but it is what it is. 😩

Very interesting video! Good for you & Eddie getting a free hotel stay. I had no idea this hotel even existed till the day you posted this video. It's interesting how much there is to do inside that hotel too although the only things that appealed to me there besides the rooms were the arcade and one of the restaurants.

was there in 2002 when i was 17, got to see penn and teller.... lots of memories made in vegas with my parents... havent been since 2014... its wild to see how much the strip has changed... im glad to see they updated the rio instead of tearing it down...

I was staying at the Rio during the same time you guys were - I asked the lifeguard about the pool complex, and he said that they are all supposed to be heated, but only one of the pools has the heater working right now. Still a work in progress. Good news is I was upgraded to one of the "older" suites in the Masquerade tower - 1,600 sq ft and the best view I've ever had at a hotel. Place is promising - 6 months to a year from now hopefully all the construction is done, and the heated pools are back!
Always bring your own Keurig coffee maker. I don't trust the ones in the rooms and what's been in them and i live here. Glad you are well! Take care.
If there's a coffee maker already in room, we like to run it through once with just water before coffee.

But, YT should tell their viewers if they received anything free, and most important, they should pay for anything, and not try to sneak in for free!

Rio was the unquestioned prime off-Strip hotel/resort back in the day. It really went to seed over the past couple of decades and covid only made it worse. Good to see it hopefully making a comeback.

it's a Good thing they got rid of Seafood Buffet cause the last time we're there 7yrs ago...Rio was going down big time...we ate quite a few Dead Stinking crabs & lobsters
I could only hope the Carnival in the Sky would make some sort of return. That would make the Rio absolutely perfect...that and the seafood buffet. Oh well, one can dream.
Penn and Teller is a pretty fun show. The most impressive part: they stay and meet and greet everyone in the lobby after the show!!

I wish the carnival would come back. Even one show a week would be fun. Thank you! It might be that I didn't feel rushed since I had two nights. When I do one night, I feel pressured to get everything in but I was able to take my time. Also had more time editing since I had issues with my program and let myself skip the week.
I just came back from Vegas a few days ago and stopped by the Rio. The pool area and the casino floors were hugely improved and they also host the show ‘Wow’, which I really enjoyed. Also it was pretty crowded for a Wednesday night. Glad the improvements are bringing in business.

Rio was our first las vegas hotel stay back in 2021. We were upgraded to a top floor room. What they didn't tell us was the landing area for the zipline was above our room. Every 10/15 minutes you would hear this loud stomping sound.
Two memories of Rio: someone recommended the Brazil/Carnaval-themed dinner show they used to have so my wife and I went on one of our early visits to Vegas in the 90s. It was a good deal, like $30 a head, I think. Also enjoyed their Mardi Gras in the Sky Show (something like that) and we got beads; second memory was a guy trip where we were at Bellagio and walked to Rio because it didn’t look that far (duh) and it started to rain HARD. Ah, good times. Haven’t thought about going back in a long time because I heard it had gone downhill, but now looks like it may be worth a visit. Thanks for the look, Dani and Eddie.

Dani I loved this video. I stayed at the Rio in 2003. At that time they were tied to Harrahs. There used to be a shuttle bus between them that ran pretty frequently. I loved the Rio. I remember the pool setup a little differently. My heart aches to see the Mardi Gras parade in the sky again. It was so cool. That view from the top is the best you are going to get in Vegas w/o paying an arm and a leg. But mostly I miss the buffet. We would go in there for a late breakfast. There was a 30 minute time period between breakfast and lunch. They used to let you stay "for free". So we would eat breakfast, hang out and drink tea or coffee and then have lunch. Then we were good until dinner time. I returned a couple years later just for the buffet and casino and they had this bar called "The Beach" with bikini clad bar tenders and card dealers. The Rio was great. Hopefully it will find even a sliver of it's old self once again. Thanks for a great video.
Literally the best buffet I have ever been to. I don't know anyone that's says different that has been. So weird that they took it out. The beach sounds fun!! I hope they keep improving the resort. Rewards and values their clients and decent prices for a nice room and pool is a huge plus for me.
@@Dani702 And I forgot to add that the walk to the strip isn't that bad and it puts you right by Mandalay Bay and Bellagio. I remember the interview I saw with the guy who built the place years ago. One of the things he said was that they put a fridge in every room because he didn't think it was right to not give his guests the ability to have their own drinks in their rooms if they wanted w/o paying the resort prices for bottles of water and sodas. So the place was built with heart. I don't think you can say that about many places in Vegas.
I was there two weeks ago and my website offer was a comp room for three nights but I had to pay the resort fees. I think my total was $136 (for three nights) and that was also in the Ipanema tower. There was great improvement on the property but they still had a ways to go. The room and pool area were excellent though! It's a huge value and I think I will do it again in August. Great work, Dani!
That's a great deal! The room and pool are top! I'd go back for sure for that alone. Our 2nd night we did stuff around the china town (1-2 blocks away) and enjoyed a few new spots that we will be back for!
Rio was a great property even right before COVID it wasn't that bad with the buffet, then it became awful. Hope it comes back.

When I was living in Vegas the Rip was still popping with the clubs and bars but later fell to the new strip attractions back in like 2012-2018 those were the days ! But I always liked the Rio

IT WAS THE BEST PLACE IN THE 90'S The Rio was on life support for a while and I didn't think it was gonna make it. Glad to see it is showing signs of life again. Thanks Dani you are the best!
The Rio was my intro to Las Vegas in 1995. I stayed there again in 1997, 2002 and 2005. I loved everything about it: the pool, the rooms, the Voodoo Lounge, the free carnival show, and the Carnival World Buffet, which was the greatest buffet - ever! Fast forward to the last time I stayed there in 2016, for a Star Trek convention, and wow, was I disappointed. The rooms had deteriorated: uncomfortable beds, water stained furniture, clogged sinks, no hot water, smelly, and the sign out front was broken!!! I'm so glad that they broke away from Caesar's and the new owners are bringing it back to life! Looks like it will regain some its former glory! U r so right about the coffee $$$$. We bring our own coffee maker. Waking up to the fresh smell of coffee in your room is the best. Thanks Dani 6 miles in an hour is amazing time! Another great review Dani. Excellent! I booked a Deluxe King/highfloor/stripview room for the Star Trek convention August 1st for a couple nights and it was extremely cheap. I was a little concerned from hearing things over the years about Rio but your review gives me relief! Thanks! The last time I stayed at the Rio was probably the mid 90's and yeah it was pretty darn cool back then.
There was zero nightlife during your stay? Definitely a poker mecca as well too. Glad that they updated rooms, honestly the Palms across the street is a great place to spend time even if you stay at Rio, excellent restaurants and classier.

Absolutely! When we do one night, I feel pressured to get everything for the video in that short amount of time. Pool normally goes after check out and we have to change in the bathroom lol. But it was sooooo nice to take my time and also get to enjoy a night without the camera. 😃😃😃

So happy they are renovating the RIO. Although we never stayed we spent many hours gambling, shows and eating back in the 90s. Hope they consider bringing back the FREE shuttle at some point.

I was there two weeks ago and did a little gambling. Next thing I know, they are offering me 4 comp'd nights with no taxes or resort fees. I'll be back August 27. ALL FREE! The Ipanema room as well. Every room should have two sinks. Love this. That is a nice view. Hoping my view is as good. Will make for a great timelapse. This is a great video, thank you very much. Looking forward to the VooDoo Lounge. Some great looking cocktails, I also received some food comps for RIO. I guess I am going to the VooDoo Lounge. Tony Luke's had an awesome Steak & Cheese sub. Highly recommended. We played KISS mini golf. We were all a bit intoxicated, so of course it was hilarious. Starbucks is cheaper. lol Can't say that too often. lol Thanks for this great video.
That is so excellent! Spots like this that care about the guest and rewards members just hit home. Our server at voodoo and both front desk employees we talked too were excellent. Our rooms were free but we spent a good amount on food, drinks, and even did some gaming (cocktail server was on point with the free drinks lol) I'd go back in a heartbeat to experience the other spots too with their constant room deals. Pool and room were too tier for us considering the price.

Dani: turn the fan on low and the temp to like 65, it'll keep the fan on without the on/off jump nonsense. Also, asmr. I use it as background white noise and tapers through the noise. Love the video
I did that. The fan kept switching to auto no matter how many times I charged it to on, low, high, lol.

I always stayed at the Rio...Seafood buffet was the best!...the show in the sky was cool and the tall ceilings in the casino made it alot less smokey...always gave me a suite room for free when I came...then it went to shit...stopped going....I heard they sold and are renovating which makes me happy but heard bed bugs were a problem right now so not sure

You should turn the fan to "fan on" so it doesn't shut off -- "Auto" makes it so it turns on and off frequently when the temperature falls below the temp set point. If you choose between low-medium or high speed for the fan setting, the fan will run continuously at the noise level that doesn't bother you as much.
Close the drapes and set the fan speed and temperature to 60 right away when you first check into the room, so while you are gone so it cools down the room before you return for resting.
I did! That is always the first thing I do at hotels because I hate a stuffy room. It kept swinging back to auto no matter how many times I placed the fan on 'on'.
@@Dani702they have a building automation system - so they are resetting the air when you are gone, some even have motion sensors built into the T-Stats. 😡

Great to see the Rio making a comeback, that was the place at one time, had the best Seafood Buffet, Parties or Celebrations were always happening, even Creed showed up and filmed a music video up in the Voodoo Club rooftop.. looks like still a lot more work to do but definitely on right track.. will be interesting to see what becomes on the weekend pool music addition, maybe like flamingo's pool parties...hope you enjoyed your stay looked fairly nice..
Plus Vegas may need a huge Casino comeback, since losing Tropicana and the best Casino the strip had last 30yrs in the Mirage 😮
We honestly had a great time. I would absolutely go back for the room and pool along with the room pricing and in room fridge! I'm keeping my eye on the opening of the lobby lounge and hoping more at the voodoo lounge.
I dig the 21 and over pools out there. However, one does have to be careful as there's a reason it's 21+ with some as there are topless sunbathing locations. I was walking around checking out the pool area at one of the resorts doing filming and when I got to the top of the area at the pool, woah boy. So while some may not mind, for others, when in these areas check to see if where you are that's a thing so you can avoid it. Great video and I just can't wait to get back to Vegas! Love seeing these sites.

If it's the indoor shots, it's the low light on my camera phone which is crap. Casinos don't mind when I film in my phone but i get stopped when I pull out my good camera which is much better in low light but it is what it is. 😩

Martorano was my favorite restaurant in vegas was sad when it closed at the rio. The paris location wasn't the same.

Very interesting video! Good for you & Eddie getting a free hotel stay. I had no idea this hotel even existed till the day you posted this video. It's interesting how much there is to do inside that hotel too although the only things that appealed to me there besides the rooms were the arcade and one of the restaurants.
It's a huge property. I took out most of the casino and convention center areas because my video was getting to long for my liking but it's a pretty massive area b
