The Maxxis Tire Wobble, is it common??

  • Tire wobble seems to be a rather common problem with Maxxis tires. In my case the Minion DHF. I re-seated the tire three times with plenty of soapy water but no change. The rim was checked on my truing stand and it is straight.

    The tire is not seated right on the bead. The tire doesn’t have a wobble it’s just that it’s crooked

      eastwood yes in some cases the tire may not be seated right or if you have tire inserts can also make it wobble but in his case and in my case and many other is an issue from factory nothing todo with the bead or if it was not install properly. and it seems to be a very popular problem with maxxis only. other company's that are no so popular dont have the issue and mine you have the the full package dhr 2 tuff casing terra cuz i tough the pros and most forums saids maxxis are way to go. but no im thinking they may have really good performance but the quality of the build ummmm not the best.

      @@thomas_00001 try using soapy water to seat the bid correctly and a air compresor if you have if not remove the air valve to get the most air in with your air pump. soapy water can help alot when it comes to sitting the tire and take a close look to make sure you have the same amount of tire showing all around. follow the line the is above the bead to ensure is all even sometimes have some one else take a look and see if they can spot any defects but soapy water should help a lot put it all over the rim and in the bead. good luck

      @@257sombra I had Tannus as well and took it out and the same wobble is there. I made sure all the beads are seated equally around on both sides and still wobble. Same tire Maxxis DHF 50 PSI.

      @@ronelborromeo6013 It's the other way round. Your tires were fine before you installed Tannus. Tannus damages tires by uneven stretch during inflation. I destroyed multiple tires before I realized it was the insert. I proved it by first installing the tire without Tannus. Everything was fine. Then installed the insert. Wobble. Removed the insert. Wobble was there forever.

    I had my Assegai mounted freshly last night. I never knew about a new tyre wobbling as I have fitted many many new tyres myself in the past and never had a problem. However, I realized that my new Maxxis Assegai has a quite a bit of a wobble which I struggled with all the possible ways to fix and then realized it a manufacturer fault which many others are experiencing.

    Same here. Thought they weren't seated properly or my wheel was out of true. Sidewalls have been sweating tyre sealant in the past year, presuming rubber started to weaken, but no other issues till I took a few birms a bit more aggressively and rear tyre made some weird vibrating noises. Presume some fibers got damaged under stress. Clearly, it's not normal for a new tyre to do this, but in my case the life expectancy seemed to be 12 to 18 months depending on use.

    Same thing with assegai, did same thing on off on . Tried with a tube . Yep it’s the tyre

  • @Andrew-dm8mk
    @Andrew-dm8mk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It could be that the tyre isn’t seated properly or the inner tube isn’t seated properly either on the wheel. If you have an inner tube deflate it take it out & put it back in so it goes in evenly try inflating it again.Hope that helps 👍

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I had this for years, but sometimes I had to reseat it twise or more, but also when tyre was used longterm, it developed warp, also bead fails. This has happen on all tyres i had in my previous bike, and now at new bike, so tyre øy last few months, usually I can use a tyre few months one year than the next, but idf I try to push it for whole season, it's wearing bead off and wobble is horrible. But I saw a video where a rider supported by an distrubutor of maxxis claims she gets about 5 months out of a tyre so that's about what I get I guess before it loses true. So I guess I am riding so hard and tyres get so much use I wear them fast but still use them bit longer than I should for optimal performance. So bead and the warping of tyres makes it horrible eventually, but otherwise the knobs are not completely ruined but start to rou d off, but I never managed to run one tyre so long knobs were almost gone, some do, but bead fails before that is possible for me.

      @@TonyHob some are definitely defective, but I never had one that was 100% true but if it was bad I redid it and worked but, I've seen vids of worse wobble, but hats how the tyres look whe n I've used them for a long time. But I think I should try different brands too, I found Schwalbe to seat easier, at least Ice Spiker does but can be hard to remove but so can Maxxis be when sealant glues it I guess, but I can get them off anyway, so not an issue. I've not had warping with Schwalbe Ice Spiker tyres yet, I've only used them for few weeks.

    Sort of ‘good’ to find this video and all the comments. Set up a front wheel Maxxis Rambler tubeless on my gravel bike… install seemed to go pretty swimmingly (my first time trying tubesless) but yesterday, 3rd ride I’ve made, could see it was out of whack. Not going to mess about trying to fix it… just need to not look down when riding.
