10 minutes! I just spent 1/2 a day and scratched my rim trying to get a new downhill tire on. Dave...thank you very much for posting this. Great video! Took me 2 minutes after watching this. I now have a big sign in my workshop. "Prior to changing tires watch Dave Kay, Yorkshire Bike Mechanic"
I just fought for ten minutes with a tire, feeling so weak and demoralized, I needed to call in more hands just to get it done -- and then I watched this video and popped the other tire on with my bare hands. I cannot possibly thank you enough! This was fantastic!
Thanks man, I've teared several tubes, destroyed several fingers and nails. My tire change always took me 20-30 minutes. Now it's five! Love you, thanks from Ukraine)
Man. I love you. I Can't believe this. I'm a bike mechanic and have good experiences. I was 1 hour fighting agaist dh casing. Watchednyou video on weekend, came back to the Shop in monday and it tookme 2 minutes and no lever to achieve it. Thanks you. Greetings from Chile
Struggled with a pirelli tyre on my carbon gravel bike wheel, even burst through the rim tape with my levers trying to fit it so had to retape the wheel! Found this video after some Google searching and followed your method got the tyre on no problem without levers at all. Never too old for a 52 year old dog to learn new tricks been fixing bikes all my life and happy to say every day's a school day thanks so much for the content you've earned your follow and subscribe!
Wait, wtf, this is actually amazing. I struggled with a difficult tire for an hour with multiple tire levers then watched this video and had it on with my bare hands in a few minutes. Thanks for the awesome tip.
Another newbie who tried for ages and got it done in minutes with your method. Thank you, I always trust a Yorkshireman to know how to get things done!
Thank you so much for sharing ! We were 2 otherwise sensible adults loosing our minds & breaking tyre levers. After watching your video it took me litterally 3min to put this tyre back on. Incredible!
Thank you Dave, this video has been unbelievably helpful. I was losing my mind yesterday and considering going to the local bike mech. This would have cost about £60 (I live in Norway) just to fit a tyre. Literally spent a night losing sleep about a tyre. This has saved my life!
An hour of my life gone and then BAM I use Dave’s method and it worked. You have saved my hands, my patience and my entire house which I was very close to burning down. Thank you
This video helped me mount a very tight tire onto my wheel. Something I thought this was a hopeless endeavor before following the guidelines in your video. Many thanks!
I havnt changed a tire in 10 years on a 26” mtb, now I’m building a 29” trail bike with newer wheels and tires and trying out a tubolito tube, After an hour of fighting… your video with get the bead in the center of the rim, is what finally did it!! Thank you thank you 🎉🎉
Thank you so much Dave. My 15 year old almost gave up trying to fit his tyre, tube onto rim until we came across your video. Such a life saver 😊 Definitely binge watching all your informative videos.
Just fitted a Maxxis DH that did not want to go on and looked like it would never go on. After watching this video, I got it on in 5 minutes. Just keep pushing that bead to the middle, which I never knew about. Outstanding information. I'll never stress again. Thanks very much.
I admire the practical way you showed, and explained, how to do this. Most impressed, though, with your ability to keep talking whilst actually wrestling with the tyre to get it done. Thanks.
This video was a life saver, bought a new to me (pre-loved) MTB last week. Knew the Bike had a puncture which was fine, new Inner Tube bought, lots of blood, sweat & tears later I searched TH-cam & found this video............needless to say it was on within 3 minutes once I learnt the "knack". Thank you.
Hi Nick, Thanks for watching, glad you found it useful, you can apply this technique for all bike tyres, if you make sure that the tyre bead is is the rim centre it is much easier to remove too.
You have saved me a trip to the bike shop, and some money, to get my tyre back on after a flat. Before watching your video I was dreading getting a flat out in the wilds but now I'm confident. Best biking vid I've ever seen, thank you very much, sub'ed.
Incredible. Was having a hard deal with levers for half an hour and was desperate. Then I watched your video and my tyre was on after one minute ! Thank you sir
It's unbelievable, but it works. I tried to put the tires on for over an hour and couldn't. With these instructions, the tire was on the rim in less than 5 minutes. I'm excited and relieved. Many Thanks.
Thanks Dave, I'll never gonna ask for help when changing a tire w/INSERTS again. Now i understand... It's not about the tire levers that you use, in fact It's not about strength at all. It's about how much you know the materials and components with what you're working, understand how they're shaped, and how you can use that in your advantage. I must say your method didn't work for me, but i use your logic and that did worked, that's what matters. Thank you so much. Im subscribed to your channel and I'll be waiting for more of these great videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much for making this video and teach me how to do it quickly, I have been trying to get my tyre in like 30 minute thank you so much saving my time
This video really helped me. I was struggling to fit some specialized nimbus 2 armadillo's together with a Tannus Armour insert. Using the techniques in your video, I did it without a tire lever!
Thank You. I have spent what feels like hours trying to get my inserts in. Did it in 5 minutes after watching this video and I have watched loads of others that didn't help !!
I've been tearing up my fingers trying to get a DHF onto a Trek wheel.. dislodged the rim tape and started again. I watched this video and pulled the bead into the centre all round whilst feeding the other side and it just popped on. Great pro tip I would never have known about.
Great video, I was struggling for at least half an hour with two tyre levers, watched your video and had it on 5 minutes later with no levers or fluid, just working the tyre round to the middle, brilliant
Hi, thanks for watching, I’m really pleased it helped you, many hundred of others who suffer the same problem just need to sped 5 mins watching to see how easier it can be please share as much as you can
Thanks Dave I literally did what you did and worked. It's currently 11:40pm here in chicago and wasn't going for a late night ride cause I couldn't get this Dame tire in but thanks to you I did it and going for a late night ride!! Gracias
Hi, I fitted a pair of Michelin DH22 on Saturday, OMG they were one of the most difficult to fit, ever. Customer rang up and said, "will you fit my tyres because I have no fingers left", Afterwards I could see what he meant.
This advice was brilliant. Using these tips it took me about 10 minutes to mount my rear tire with and insert. Versus the 40min it took for the front and two broken tire levers. Thanks!
This is a great video, I spent a good hour swearing at my 29inch tyre not being able to get in on, using levers as well. After watching this I had another go and put the tyre back on just using fingers and no tyre levers. Thank you👍
Hi Dave thank you for your help this is best video I seen about fitting tyres. I spend over a hour today with maxxis tyre and it didn't sit right in rim. It was nightmare. Tomorrow I'll try to do it again with your technique and fit it correctly
I use a variation of this, but instead of holding the final section of tyre with the palm of one hand, I just put the wheel on the floor and lean on it. The idea is that the rubber grips the floor and frees up the second hand to help working the bead in to release tension as shown here. With the tyre pressed to the rim like this, it's easier to detension the bead. Yesterday I mounted a Marathon plus without the tyre levers. Coincidentally, I was testing out those Pedro's levers, and was kinda of disappointed to manage to mount the tyre without them! 😂
When I have a difficult tyre to put on I leave it in the sun for a while (summer) or next to a radiator in the winter, makes the rubber softer and easier to work with. Great tips btw.
Actually had a metal wrench in my hand trying to get an ebc rhino on and thought better of it, ended up here... Working the bead that way around the rim is the move. Thanks brother.
Thank you so much for the help. I was going crazy with tire leavers and soapy water and nothing was working. Once I tried your method it popped immediately. Cheers!
i spent hours trying getting it on. I did manage it once, but then I had some problems, so I had to remove it again and then I spent hours once again. i used levers to the point of almost breaking them. and then i watched this video, and then i installed using my hands... knowledge is power as they say!
Thank you for the video and tips! I had been trying for the better part of the morning to get the stubborn tyre on my mtb wheel and once I saw this video I managed to do it in minutes! Cheers!
“I am gonna bring it to a bike shop”. Exactly what t I thought today after 1:30h of train to fit my maxxis tire with inner liner…I gave up but after seeing this video I’ll try again tomorrow. Thanks!
@@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic hey, yes I did it! Last Sunday! It was the first time installing the liner (Vittoria Airliner) which is wider than the one you have in the video. The tire was an Exo+ so it was tighter than a normal Exo from Maxxis. The secret was indeed to push it with like you show in the video, but for the last 40cm I had to use levers as it was just too tight! Thanks so much!!!
Thanks so much!!! My boyfriend an aerospace engineer and me an Analyst almost ended our relationship over putting my MTB tire on..... 😂 You are awesome and thank you for a great detailed informative tutorial!!!
Hi, first time I’ve ever heard of a relationship under pressure over a tyre, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall, thanks for watching and your comments
Thank you so much. I recently watched a lot of tyre changing videos because I am really struggling with my new G-Ones. And your explanation really enlighted me :)
Cheers Dave! After ruining two tyres attempting to install cushcore inserts, this has really helped! Will try to drop the bead all the way and hope for no tyre wobble.
Thank you Dave! I employed your mounting technique and was finally able to mount a tire that seemed impossible to install.. I did have to use a tire iron but did not utilize a metal one as I had previously planned. Your advice to not use a metal lever was indispensable!
Nice rolling technique! Lately I've been encountering some nightmarishly tight beads. Despite my best efforts to keep the beads in the groove, the last bit defies popping over the rim w/o use of a tool. All this w/o any insert. It really drives me insane when I am rolling the bead on one end of the gap and it keeps slipping off on the other end.... Last week I ordered a tire wrench that hooks over the rim and the bead from the outside in case you are using tubes. Before it arrived I managed the job with a tire lever (Pedro's). Should come in handy later, though.
I spent two days grappling with my winter tires. Used this and within 30 seconds it was in ❤ so grateful for now I’ll never spend days grappling with my tires
Lol, I had to ask my neighbor for some extra help. But imagine when you are on your trail, miles away from your car, and want to fix your tyre😉 I read about ppl removing the bontrager tape from the rim and installing other, thinner tape. May have to try that in the future, but have to get te tyres off first :)
Thanks for watching, pleased it helped. This video is one of our most popular videos where the content has helped thousands of people, please consider sending a super thanks, it helps to support us to make future videos. Thanks.
I’m a newbie to your channel and so glad I found it, especially to learn this technique of fitting difficult tyres. Wish I had known this years ago! That’s me subscribed and thank you for the awesome, very informative content.
Bet it makes it easier with that calm British accent also - pushing like mad, you know this man’s thumbs are burning and he smiles and says “tell you my hands are aching a bit to be honest” - LEGEND 👏👏
Another huzzah, I spent the better part of an hour trying to put a Panaracer gravelking 35 on a DT Swiss wheel, the first went on fairly "easily" the second not at all. But after the video hint of pushing the tire edge back into the center of the rim it WAS easier and took only a minute to get the last part in. I did anchor a Pedro tire tool at one end of the uninstalled tire bead to try and keep it from allowing the bead to pop out but suspect it was not needed. I did use a Bike Hand pliers type tire tool as my hands are not enough. Good video.

Still can't get it. Cush core is making it tough. Off to the shop tomorrow lol.
Thank you. Never been able to get the tyre back on after a puncture, this really helped 👏👏👏😀

Hi, Thanks for watching, Glad it helped.
I’m a newbie to your channel and so glad I found it, especially to learn this technique of fitting difficult tyres.
Wish I had known this years ago!
That’s me subscribed and thank you for the awesome, very informative content.
Glad it was helpful!, Thank you for watching
Thank you very much the best video I’ve seen in a long time that actually explains bit by bit
Glad it helped, Thank you for watching
Bet it makes it easier with that calm British accent also - pushing like mad, you know this man’s thumbs are burning and he smiles and says “tell you my hands are aching a bit to be honest” - LEGEND 👏👏
Hi, thanks for watching and your comments.
Hey, thanks for this video. I had been using metal park tool levers but they kept on puncturing the rim tape. I will be using this method from now on.
Hi, thanks for watching and your comments, pedros plastic all day long
Now after many tyre changes you show me something I didn't know! I always had to use levers for the last bit.
Thanks for watching.
you good sir just saved my life. thank you, thank you very much!
Another huzzah, I spent the better part of an hour trying to put a Panaracer gravelking 35 on a DT Swiss wheel, the first went on fairly "easily" the second not at all. But after
the video hint of pushing the tire edge back into the center of the rim it WAS easier and took only a minute to get the last part in. I did anchor a Pedro tire tool at one end of the
uninstalled tire bead to try and keep it from allowing the bead to pop out but suspect it was not needed. I did use a Bike Hand pliers type tire tool as my hands are not enough.
Good video.
Thanks for watching and you comments
