ISELTWALD + GIESSBACH FALLS (Bonus: Legend of the Mermaid of Lake Brienz)

In my latest vlog, I took you on a serene journey through Iseltwald and the stunning Giessbach Falls, two of the most enchanting spots along the shores of Lake Brienz in Switzerland. Iseltwald, a picturesque village nestled on a small peninsula, feels like a step back in time with its traditional Swiss chalets and tranquil atmosphere. It's the kind of place that seems almost untouched by the modern world, offering visitors a chance to breathe deeply and soak in the natural beauty of the region.
As I wandered through the quaint streets of Iseltwald, I found myself drawn to the lake's edge, where the pristine waters of Lake Brienz shimmered in the soft afternoon light. This lake, with its striking turquoise hue, is often referred to as one of Switzerland's most beautiful bodies of water. It was here, by the lake, that I met a fellow traveler from India, Anoogna. We quickly bonded over our shared love for exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations and obsession for K-dramas #teamcloy . It’s always a joy to connect with others who have a deep appreciation for the world’s hidden gems.
Our newfound friendship led us on a short, scenic boat ride across the lake to Giessbach Falls. The falls are nothing short of breathtaking, cascading down 500 meters in a series of roaring tiers. The sound of the water crashing against the rocks was mesmerizing, and as we followed the path that winds behind the waterfall, we were rewarded with a unique view of this natural wonder. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend taking the historic funicular up to the Grandhotel Giessbach, which has been welcoming guests since 1874. The hotel itself is a beautiful piece of history, offering panoramic views of the falls and the surrounding landscape.
But perhaps the most intriguing part of our adventure was discovering the legend of the mermaid of Lake Brienz. According to local lore, a beautiful mermaid once lived in the depths of the lake. She would emerge on moonlit nights to sing enchanting melodies that echoed across the waters. It’s said that those who heard her song would be blessed with good fortune, but only if they kept the mermaid's existence a secret. The legend adds a layer of mystery to the already magical atmosphere of Lake Brienz, making it a place where reality and myth seem to intertwine.
