Thanks so much for the encouragement! We enjoy sharing our love of Switzerland with others and we hope you get to Grindelwald soon!
Enjoyed your video very much. Makes me want to back. As a little girl my wife took the inside mountain tram to the top of Jungfrau. 1973 as exchange student working at aeromachi I went on a hitchhiking tour of Europe went the plant was closed for 3 weeks. Went to see it also but hiked around the base. Such beautiful views. I felt like I was walking in a painting. ... Unreal. ❤
Sounds like you and your wife have already had an amazing experience here! The views are so beautiful and we agree that often times it seems unreal. How can one place be so beautiful?! Thanks for sharing about your experience here:)
You guys are the best! We are currently in Lauterbrunnen, and we were in Grindelwald for the last couple of days. There’s so much to do and your video’s really helped! Grindelwald is definitely the most beautiful place on this planet
We love that you’re getting to experience two beautiful places while you’re in Switzerland! So glad our videos helped you find things to do. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time here!
Thankyouuuuu. Super helpful!

You are so kind, thank you! We’re so happy to help you plan your trip this summer!!
🎉 i didn’t know I missed so much last trip to Grindelwald. I will make up some of them of in coming Oct another amAzing tip!. Great video !
That’s great that you’re coming back again in October!!
I've got a couple of days in the Interlaken / Grindelwald area next month and thus been really helpful, thanks!
Glad we could help! Enjoy your time there:)
Duuude this is heaven ✨✨
It really is such a beautiful place!
Wow! Thanks
You’re so welcome! 👍
Thank you for the videos of yours! I will be in Switzerland for 2 weeks included 3 nights in Interlaken for the Swiss alp villages in May!
That should be a wonderful trip!!! 🇨🇭
New subscriber here. Thanks for making these awesome informative videos! You two are wonderful! I'm going to be in Grindelwald for 3 days with my 11 year old son and will be buying your 3 day guide.
Welcome, we’re glad you’re here! And we’re thrilled that our 3-Day Guide to Grindelwald is helping you and your son. In fact, he will probably love some of those adventure activities!!
This is a fantastic and informative video, thank you. When we travelled in the summer of 2019, we loved Pfinstegg with our young boys - hopefully returning in summer 2025 with them as teenagers and looking forward to trying the slow zip line (which was being built) as well as the toboggan run again!
And the mountain carts at First are a must (we did them twice!)
Love that! It’s so family-friendly here. We hope you enjoy your next visit with your teens!! 🙂
heaven ❤
Glad this popped up in my suggestions!
I was only going to visit Grindelwald to do the trikes then continue on my way.. Now I'll be staying at least 2 nights :D
We're glad it did too! Hope you enjoy your 2 nights stay:)
I am going here next month!! I also was here last year in April, and I must say Grindelwald is beautiful, but I don’t think anything beats the beauty of Lauterbrunnen.
You’re right! They’re both such beautiful and unique places that we choose both valleys 🙃🤩
welcome to switzerland
Thank you so much!! 😊
very good video
Thanks for your encouragement! 😊
Just arrived to Interlaken!!! Hopefully tomorrow we'll be up at Jungfraujoch
Mission accomplished, thank you so much for your help
So glad you enjoyed your time up at Jungfraujoch! 👍
Now in Zurich but weather hasbeen somewhat hectic, hopefully our last day will be great in Luzern
I’m ready to hike. After hiking up to Seoul tower in South Korea, with a heavy backpack with no drinks and on an empty stomach, I’m still alive. That didn’t include the other hikes I had to take to hike this place 🤣
Love the informative video! Will be heading to Switzerland in December and wanted to check if these places would still be applicable in winter? Also, would you recommend staying in Grindelwald or Interlarken? Thanks!!
I just came back from there today. In my opinion, I like the hikes better in Oeschinensee Lake area. It just have more of a Nature hike feel than what Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald had to offer. Either way, both of those places were absolutely stunning but expensive.
Oeschinensee and the Kander Valley are lovely in our opinion too! We’ve been there but just haven’t filmed there yet 😊
Did you get to do the panoramic hike at Oeschinesee? How was the snow?
@@williamfwoods I did and the majority of the snow is melted. This was as of Sunday
hi guys... can i visit lake oeschinensee via public transport, holding a Day saver pass? thanks guys!@@AplinsintheAlps
Pfingstegg is definitely worth it!
Eiger express not so ($100+ per person for a 17 min cable car ride!!!)
Thanks for sharing! Hopefully it will help other travelers decide what's worth their time and money!
It’s probably worth getting a jungfrau or Bernese oberland pass if doing a few trips in the area - saves hundreds of francs!
I love your videos. We're prepping for a Switzerland trip in June. My one piece of feedback is it would be super helpful if you provided cafe/restaurant recommendations for places that sell meals, not just desserts and snacks. Are there any places to buy a cheap lunch, or is our only option to buy groceries?
Many of these cafes also sell small bites of food, like sandwiches, salads, and quiches. However we rarely eat out because restaurants are quite expensive! We recommend picking up on-the-go food from these cafes/bakeries or the grocery store.
Lovely video. Very informative. I'm planning to visit grindlewald somewhere around 15th November with my wife. Will the grindlewald first be open? Also been discouraged that do not go to grindlewald in November as most of it is shut. Could you shed some light on this? Cheers and continue the lovely work.
Loving your videos. I’ve liked and subscribed. Please advise a fellow American traveling with kids - how to get to a nice town or village after landing in Zurich. Also, we want to experience the Berninia express. How should we plan that? Any videos or just ideas?
Good morning ✌️🖐️
Have a nice day 🖐☕
Greetings Janusz from Warsaw, 🇵🇱 🖐Poland ✌😊
Hello from Switzerland!! 🇨🇭
Nice vídeos. Its possible to do this trials and walks in end of march? It is too cold? Lot of snow? Or it is possible ? Thanks you. You guys are awesome
Damn, I almost saw my house. :o
Sounds like fun. Great video.I will be in Zurich and was deciding on Zematt or Grindelwald (Harry Potter curiosity brought me here. ). It looks like it takes more than one day to do all these adventures but we only have one day so must decide what to enjoy and wonder if we still would have enough time.. Also, should we have our credit cards ready or do we need to bring cash . Do we have to pay online first or just be there & then pay is fine ? thx
Great video and super helpful! We are travelling to switzerland at the end of May and booked accomodations in Lauderbrunnen. Did we make a mistake and should rebook in Grinderwald instead? What does everyone think?
There’s no “bad” place to stay! For context, Grindelwald is about 40 minutes from Lauterbrunnen by train, so not too far!
Hi I just downloaded the 3 day itinerary! I love it! Just a question 😅 is the cliff walk open even in winter say Dec 18 this year? Thank you 🙏
Hi Joyce! Grindelwald First is closed from Nov. 6 through Dec. 15 this year for maintenance. But whenever the lift is running, the Cliff Walk will be open. Hope that helps!
Your videos are amazing! Is there any pass you would recommend for the interlaken area? I’ll be there for 3 nights
Hi Karen! Definitely, we have thoughts on train passes :)
Be sure to check out this ultimate guide we made! th-cam.com/video/fzuP0hMUjFk/w-d-xo.html
Does anyone know how to find the customer number on the Swiss half fare card??? Trying to upload it to the SBB mobile app...
Thank you for the tips! We'll be heading to Switzerland next month and I can't wait :)
Just a question, we're looking to go on the easier trails, but may I know whether are the directions easy to spot? Can one get lost? Would we be fine just relying on Google Maps if that's even possible in the first place? Thank you!
May will be a great time to visit!
As for the trails, you can find trail maps in the train stations, although the trails are all very clearly marked with trail signs so it’s tough to get lost!
Not sure if you are visiting the village of Grindelwald in the Jungfrau region but one of the most scenic and easiest trails in this area is the walk to the Bachalpsee lakes from First(pronounced Fearst). Take the cable car from Gindelwald up to First and hike up to Bachalpsee. This is a wide open area(no trees) with spectacular views of the Mountains(Wetterhorn , Eiger, etc.). The hike is only 2 miles. Elevation on this trail is about 2195 meters(7200 feet). The Cliff Skywalk in First is also spectacular.
Other notable destinations in the Jungfrau region include:
1) The train ride up to the Jungfrau Sphinx Observatory(called the Jungfraujoch) from Kleine Scheidegg(train ticket is pricey). Elevation is 3,571 meters (11,716 ft)
2) Trummelbach Falls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
3) Cable car or Funicular up to small villages of Murren and Gimmelwald from the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
4) From Murren you can take cable car up to Schilthorn(Piz Gloria).
5) There are easy and extremely scenic hiking trails in the Mannlichen area. I believe there is a cable car or train to this area from Grindelwald.
You could easily spend a few weeks in the Jungfrau region and not get bored.
Happy Trails!
Thanks for this video! 😊 Where can we buy tickets for the trotti bike?
You can buy them online or at the First.
Thank you so much for these videos! I have to pick one gorge to see. Which do you think is best? Aare Gorge or the Grindelwald Gorge. I hate to pick but can’t do both. ☹️
As a Swiss i‘d choose Aare gorge 😊
@@markusf58 Thank you for that info!
So my wife and I are going to be in the Jungfrau area in mid-May of this year. I desperately want to do the Panorama hike as well as a few others but I'm worried about the trail conditions at that time of year. Will we be too early? Is there an official date these trails open or just when the snow clears?
Thanks, love your videos!
Awesome! It totally depends on snow conditions, and you can find out which trails are open by asking in the rail office! Hopefully some will be clear by mid-May!
What is Grindelwald like in May? I had to schedule my trip early-mid May for the best flight price, and I really want to see the green alpine views and cows, but I’m afraid it will all be cold and covered in snow :( I hate winter, so I hope the weather isn’t too terrible
It truly depends on the year! We’ve been during cold Mays with lingering snow, and warm Mays that feel like summer. Hopefully you experience the warmer weather!
Do you have any links for the company that you used for your via ferrata?
We just posted a video of our via ferrata! And there are links to the experience in the video description and our blog as well!
Can't wait to go there next year
We bet you’re counting down the days!
Ahh i MISS SWITZERLAND 😢😢😢
Those going to Grindelwald during the winter season, becareful with your luggage and walking as most of the time the ice/snow on the ground is not cleared so you either have a chance of falling or your luggage gets stuck 😅😅😅
Those cliff walk made my heart stopped literally 😂
Yes snow on the ground doesn’t mix well with rolling suitcases 🙃
guys how about the payment methods in all that places receive cards or it has to be cash, great videos keep doing that
Very few places will be cash only. Most places accept debit/credit cards however, the American Express credit card is not widely accepted in Switzerland.
hi guys, if i hold a Saver day pass for 1 day..can i experience the FIRST cliff walk, the toboggan run and trottibike ? are they accessible via public transport?
Jana, what shoes are you wearing in this video. They look so comfy and good for hiking? Thanks
Solomon trail running shoes - they’re likea light hiking shoe and I absolutely love them! Keep me cool in the summer and warm when it’s cold. This is my third year with them! (About time for a new pair since my tread is bare) they’re linked on my gear page www.aplinsinthealps.com/gear
OK! Thanks so much for the reply!
Are these hiking spots open end of April? Or will the trails be closed
It truly depends on the snow conditions, but the lower trails may be open if they’re clear enough. Mannlichen doesn’t open until end of May though!
Janet we will be in Switzerland in 2 weeks for 6 days! Zurich to Interlacken (2 nights) then Lucern (2 nights) then Zurich (1 night). Can you help me with an itinerary starting May 1st?
Thanks!
We do not consult on individual itineraries but we have created several done for you travel guides that can help you in your trip planning. You can check them out here.
aplinsinthealps.com/guides/
What recommendations would you have for any of this in December? We will be there for Christmas, and hopefully we can do some of these activities. We'd love some tips for December.
Unfortunately some of these activities are not open during the winter. We have a video and a free resource about month-to-month weather and activites here that you might find helpful! aplinsinthealps.com/best-time-to-visit-switzerland-a-month-by-month-guide/
Are these hikes and activities available in September?
Yep, sure are!
Hi Can we take baby stroller in all the places you mentioned in the video?
Question: If I am coming from Milano Centrale railway station to Grindelwald station to see First Cliff, how to I get to the Gondola lift station 2440? Do I walk or are there buses?
It’s a short 8-minute walk from the Grindelwald train station to the First cable car, or you can ride a bus as well.
Thank you for this informative video. It has convinced me, unlike many other viewers in my opinion not to visit Grindelwald. These tourist attractions are not my thing and generally there are too many people.
Thanks for letting us know this video was helpful! We're glad we were able to help you decided where you do and don't want to spend your time:)
Failed again to see what the town of Grindelwald looked like, will keep looking.
The town is super tiny, which is why we shared about things to do in the whole area!
Hello , I saw this website in google saying that in May activities are closed because they deeming it as an off season for hiking , Can you check please 🙏
Hi there! Are you wondering about the Grindelwald First adventure activities, or something else?
@@AplinsintheAlps the activities
Do these restaurants take credit card (US) or should cash be the main way to pay in Grindelwald?
Excellent question! Credit cards (especially Visa and Mastercard) are widely accepted here! So you can have cash, but you don't need it.
Do you record this VDO on April?
This was actually filmed in October 2022!
do they take card for the first activities ?
In Switzerland, you can use card based payments almost everywhere.
Is Grindelwald cold in October ?
During the beginning of October last year, daytime high temperatures were in the 50s or lower 60s (fahrenheit), and nighttime lows were in the upper 30s or lower 40s.
@@AplinsintheAlps so there is no snow? And also should i bring a jacket with me or no need?
Where can I find the webcam?
The webcams are on the jungfrau website
Which of these are open in winter?
Pfingstegg is definitely summer only - as are the mountain carts and trotti bikes at First.
Correct!
The Grindelwald Glacier Canyon is also closed in Winter.
@@AplinsintheAlps - that’s worth a visit too isn’t it? Love the bouncy netting 😀
It's neat! Especially on a rainy day when you probably wouldn't go up into the mountains
When did you make this vídeo?
Hi there! We recorded most of the footage during the summer of 2022, between June-September.
Is flying drone allowed?
We don't know the rules, but we've seen friends fly their drones!
I'm impressed that you pronounce "First" and "Jungfrau" properly, but so many lakes in Switzerland, it wouldn't be hard to pronounce "See" properly in German?
Well we’re learning German so we know we’re not perfect! But we just mimic the locals - and we know that the local Swiss German dialect is very different from high German 🙃
@@AplinsintheAlps Yes, you're doing great, and it's hard to learn German in Switzerland. But no one pronounces it like the English "see". You must hear that word enough to mimic it properly. It's more like "say", but not quite. If you are taking a German course, I'm sure it's a pronunciation you can learn there. Especially if you are promoting a visit to the Bachsee, which unfortunately all tourists do, and we Swiss avoid for that reason.
Is Switzerland really expensive to travel too
It can be expensive but we believe there is a way to travel here and save money! We just leased a video with money saving tips while traveling Switzerland. You can watch it here:
th-cam.com/video/iW58VzJnKI8/w-d-xo.html
Hello. What time would you suggest the best time to visit places like First and Pfingstegg? When is it quietest in the day? Xxx
We definitely think that first thing in the morning is best for visiting these spots-but you might experience a little quiet at Pfingstegg late in the afternoon as well.
However, if you want to do any adventure activities at First, it's definitely best to do them first thing in the morning!
@@AplinsintheAlps fantastic. Thank you
You are welcome!
So many spots …. 🥴 price of activities?
Excellent question! Many of these activities are free (like the hikes and Cliff Walk), and your train pass should cover all of the rides except for 1 or 2. We will add the cost info into our blog so you can check that for updates!
Great video my friend , thank you for sharing
Looks a lot like Altay mountains in Russia, I have a video on my channel, welcome to watch )
So glad you enjoyed it! We love the beauty of the mountains 🤩
1 - 16 a bit skiing, hiking and all the rest is drinking, drinking and drinking... 😂😂😂
Too boring destination after warm seas and oceans. Sorry, folks... IMHO 😂
Hey, the mountains aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay! We clearly pick mountains over beaches, and we’re foodies, but that’s the beauty of travel - you can pick wherever YOU want to go 😊
For anyone visiting Switzerland, you can skip this town IMO...I was just there and it's really just a tourist trap....IMO....
Agree... For me Swiss is too boring... 😂
It’s a beautiful place. Do not skip it.
If you watch all their videos you'll discover their thoughts on touristy vs authentic. They also understand their videos are going to do best on the places lots of people go in Switzerland.
Did you see the FLY at 1:42? There is NO hygiene here...
In our experience of traveling Europe, there are flies everywhere 🪰 That’s just part of eating outside on a terrace 🙃
