      I have to agree with this too. I've only watched a few of Matt's videos, but he does a great job of not wasting a lot of time. One of the most annoying things I find on TH-cam is posters putting up a 25 minute video, but there is honestly only 10 minutes worth of content. I watched a video a week or so back and the poster had mentioned he needed a certain tool, and went to grab it, and it wasn't where he thought it was. So instead of editing this out, he left in the video while he looked through most of his cabinets and drawers. He knew it was waste of time because he edited that portion to be time-lapsed so it didn't waste "as much" time, but to me, if you have to time lapse something like that, it should be a good clue to just entirely cut that part out. I've never seen Matt waste time like that. He will time-lapse a portion of video and then do a voice over to briefly explain what is happening to save time, which I greatly appreciate. I think Matt does an excellent job of including enough information so most wood workers can complete the task well, and expresses this in a time-conscious manner.

    Matt, I love your videos. They're all no nonsense. It is what it is. That's the way I like it. You're a good teacher. I just want to thank you for documenting what you do, and then editing your videos. I don't know much about editing, but I'm sure it's as time consuming as the build itself. I just want you to know, I truly appreciate learning from you. I'm a fifty two year old wannabe, but I'm trying.

    I've used different poly's in the past, but the satin finish you use looked so awesome that I had to try it. I ordered it from Rockler as well as the table top fasteners you use. There isn't a harsh smell at all and after 3 coats (sanding in between with 320) it came out fantastic! Thanks for showing us that, and I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to try the General Finishes topcoat.

    If I understand this right you have this coffee table sold already. Do you take a deposit if so at what percentage. The Johnson wax is that just regular auto paste wax. Thanks for your videos you have taught me a lot. At 62 I was hurt on the job and was forced into retirement. I have decided to get into wood working and bowl turning. I watch everything you do 2-3 times because you never stop learning and even though I have worked with wood of some sort all my life I still have a lot to learn. Also thanks for not being afraid to tell everyone that you’re a Christian. This day and time Christian are under attack and a lot of us hide the fact that we are. I am now 66 and starting a new career so keep the videos coming and I’ll keep learning. Thanks your brother in Christ. Rick

    I love how the table came out! I just delivered a rustic dining table to a customer last weekend and they have already ordered a matching coffee table. I'll definitely be using some of the tips I learned in your videos. I used a satin lacquer finish for the dining table, but I didn't put any paste wax on it. I may try it with the coffee table to see how much better it comes out. Thanks for the great videos!

      @@731Woodworks ok. Thanks. You've inspired me to do more!! So far I've made CORNHOLE boards, serving trays and a custom for cabinet for my man cave. Definitely want to get into making tables.
      Quick question, do you have to add those bread ends to that table? Is it for a look or stability purpose? Also, for you have to use those brackets that you made the slots for or can you just do more pocket holes for all of it?

    • @731Woodworks
      @731Woodworks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@4everabeast79 Bread board ends are just for looks. It is not recommended to pocket hole the table top to the frame due to it restricts natural wood movement. There are some fasteners called figure 8 fasteners that don't require cutting slots.

    Great project for my new home. I’m hopeful to close on the 28th of August, if all goes well with the closing. It should. I’m going to make the same tables except for just a little larger. The rooms are massive. The living room is 23x15 and the bedrooms are 18x16 and 18 x13. It’s got a very large basement/rec room downstairs 23x28 that I can use as my wood working shop and upholstery making station. You and some other you tubers have inspired me to create my own furniture seeing how easy it really is. And how much money it will save me too. I saved a lot by making my own kitchen cabinets in this house I’m in now. I did all the moulding myself too. No reason I can’t make my own furniture. Thanks

    I like your videos, they have great details. Found you via you tube algorithm recommendation and glad it did. As a time saver, plus I hate finishing wood, I've been using laminate flooring, that looks like a finish I want as furniture. For example "Pergo Seabrook Walnut 10 mm" or "Thornbury Oak 10 mm" found at HD. Lowes has some good stuff too. It should be at least 10mm thick. Which is about 3/8" thick. I would nail it to 1/4" or thick plywood, plus glue. Surprisingly laminate has some great durability qualities. Of course it may not be what your clients would like, but I use it for my home projects. My personal opinion is it looks really good with accent colors. Maybe other viewers would be interested. Thanks.

    Nice looking table! I noticed someone complained about no room for expansion on your breadboard end.... unless you have significant temperature or humidity changes you shouldn't have a problem. So, inside in a conditioned house should be fine. One tip with doweling, sharpen the ends a bit will help if your board isn't flat and will give your glue a bit of space in its hole.

      @@731Woodworks Just wondering, what would you consider to be "significant temperature or humidity changes"? I live in Ottawa, Ontario and am about to take a shot at this, we get some brutal winters and some muggy summers, should I be concerned or consider an alternative approach?

    Good process with painting espresso brown vs staining under the white top coat because the staining will eventually leach into the white paint and turn yellow.

    I was turned on to Johnson past wax when I was looking for something to put on my table saw surface to prevent it from rusting. I live in the southeast where its very humid in the summer and was having to sand the surface almost every time I used the table saw. It works like magic and makes material slide effortlessly across the surface and stopped it from rusting to boot...just curious if you've ever used a biscuit joiner on any of your projects? I ran across your channel today and love how you explain what your doing very well. I hate the ones that people say nothing in so you have to guess everything. and I think its killer that you've responded to comment from a year ago to one that was 7 hours ago. that shows you care about your subscribers so i became one today! Thanks for making quality projects

      Thanks. I haven’t used a biscuit joiner yet. I use paste wax for the same thing too!

      I totally agree! Fantastic job explaining everything! I watched a few of your videos this morning and you are very open and clear about how you do stuff which is what people are looking for! I never thought of finishing out a top coat with wax. I use wax as a finish option but I think I’m going to try that out! I would challenge you to experiment a little more in your sanding game. Don’t be afraid to get a courser grit sandpaper to start out with. I use 60 grit typically to do most of my material removal and then work 80,120,180,and 220. If a glue up shifts on me I’ll use 36 on a belt sander to level things off. Also you mentioned the grain popping when you paint it. That is because of the wet paint. Get yourself a spray bottle and mist your material between your last couple of high grit sanding or even if you are sticking with 120 for now, sand mist sand again and it will really smooth that surface out especially on pieces you are using a less intense top coat like oil or wax. Just some thoughts I wanted to share. I love your work and I love your videos. Not a lot of people like to share about pricing but that’s the biggest struggle new guys have, so great tips in that dept.!!

      *TopFineWoodworking. Com* is an amazing book about woodworking. I`m a graduate of a one-year carpentry course from a local tech college. Of all books I`ve read during my study about carpentry, I think this is the finest book I`ve read so far. It explains everything regarding woodworking as well as complements it with helpful photos.?

    AWESOME information in this video as far as finishing. I am working on a computer desk for a co-worker and i plan to use your tip with the 1000 grit sandpaper. Thanks again.
