    This video is meant to help introduce newcomers to the series and covers the entire chronology from Drakengard 1 through to NieR Replicant. This includes the events of the World Inside book which gives background that spoils some major reveals in Replicant. Please skip the section on Project Gestalt (8:52 to 11:16) if you wish to go in completely blind to the events of Replicant.
    This video will be useful if you are a newcomer or have only played one of the more recent titles such as NieR: Automata and may be wondering when Replicant takes place chronologically. The NieR series is place of a long running chronology of games starting in the Drakengard franchise, the brainchild of Yoko Taro, and there are plot lines running throughout that converge in NieR Replicant.
    The style of this video is similar to other lore analyses such as Foxcade and Clemps.

    !!IMPORTANT!!
    Please see description and be aware that the section on the Legion and Project Gestalt starting around the 9 minute mark contains events from the World Inside book which although chronologically take place before Replicant will spoil some in-game reveals. I apologize that I did not consider this as spoilers when making the video since they take place before Replicant. I'm sorry if this has lessened your experience of the game and I will do better in the future.

      Honestly understanding any story, especially one as convoluted as Neir/Drakengard, is going to ensue spoilers

    • @ckowkay
      @ckowkay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      yeah... its kind of better if you don't know anything going into nier games. When i first played nier automata, i honestly thought it was a standalone story that took place in your standard scifi thousands of years in the future, so when I found out there was so much story before automata, it blew my mind. Now that I finished replicant, I'm even more blown away by the amount of extra lore outside the games

      Decent job but you got some things incorrect.
      1. Zero didn’t make an actual pact with Micheal.
      2. The cult do not call themselves the watchers, those refers to the monstrous beings they wish to bring.
      3. You shows us scenes of Leonard when discussing Verdelet, who’s a bald old man.
      4. The cult of watchers were not the ones to establish the seals, its unknown who did, only that it was likely based on the sealers that locked away the black flower creature in the cathedral city in the utahime five manga.

    • @danilolopez3005
      @danilolopez3005 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cathedral city is also the epicenter of the events that changed earth’s timeline to that of drakengard, and flower was not a result of experiments, but a plan of the gods, as its purpose was to wipe out humanity. The flower also granted regeneration and healing, to the extant that only dragons or dragonbone weapons could slay intoners, as the flower and dragons were natural enemies and equals, as both were created by the gods to destroy man.

    • @danilolopez3005
      @danilolopez3005 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not important but I also want to explain that the sisters were created in the image of the other girls who died before Zero. Their songs had the initial effect of granting boons, but without the song those affected will go mad and even transform.

    Thanks for the video, really helped wrapping my head around how the Drakengard series lead to the NieR series. However, I am still not quite understanding what events lead to the giant babies falling from the sky. Is it the death of Manah? But then why would the death of Manah lead to an open of portals where beings from another realm falls down to destroy humanity? Does that have to do with the seeds of destruction? I don't think Manah has the seeds of destruction though I think she is the one who wants to find it no?

    Man, I've been writing a script for a Yokoverse comprehensive guide for a couple of days now, only to find your videos today.
    I also don't agree with spoiling the big twist of the original NieR in this summary video, kind of untasteful

    • @rexicon
      @rexicon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right and I do apologize. My intention for that section was to cover the pre-NieR events from the World Inside book, which I didn't consider as spoilers since they chronologically occurred beforehand. In hindsight I should have included a spoiler warning for the section. Thank you for wording your comment in a constructive way, I've updated the description and made a pinned comment

    Basically drakengard and nier are not connected… it is connected how nier happen but not really connected… i haven’t played both, but how you describe nier happened because of drakengard, but their story isn’t really important lol its like nothing is connected…

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you know how "Legend of Zelda" has three timelines because we're actually experiencing the pre-"Breath of the Wild" events on the shoes of an archeologist/historian ? Well, what if the reason "Drakengard 1 and 3" has multiple branches is because "Nier" is actually the present day of this universe, while "Drakengard" is the player's attempts at piercing into the past, only to see bits and pieces mixed together into a forcefully constructed narrative ?
      That said, I think I have a timeline that explains how "Drakengard" and "Nier aren't set on different Earths, but on the same one, simply in different continents and time periods.
      It all starts with the Cathedral city being transferred from Earth's future into medieval Europe during the alien invasion we learn of in "Automata", forever changing the final outcome of humans, dragons and all the other species that inhabited our world.
      Us humans were meant to hunt down and destroy all magic on Earth, thus becoming the dominant species and being abandoned by God and Its angels when the 👽 invaded us. But the city got transferred into Europe during that invasion, probably in an attempt to save our species from extinction by preparing us for what was to come, introducing our science MUCH earlier and having humans in what would become the Imperial part of Europe/Midgard evolve at a rather fast but corrupting speed, leading God to decide that Mankind's time had come. If genocide or corruption were the only options with humans in charge, then a flower would rebuild life through self fertilization, using the decay for the proccess and replacing it with something that offered a better smell than humanity's.
      Unfortunately for the divine beings, Caim, Angelus, the dragons and everyone else would keep Furiae from achieving this goal, thus forcing the babies to come down, using Furiae's clones to form their mother/pathway. But even then, they would not be successful, because Seere would freeze everyone in Midgard so the insanity could not spread through out the globe. But before he could freeze the Mother, the monstrosity, realizing what was about to happen, would cut herself off from the womb and escape into the distant future, in a place far away from the frozen Midgard/Europe, when humanity's corruption reached its peak. This place was the Cathedral city, when it was still known as Tokyo. Angelus and Caim gave chase before they too could be frozen, and although they did keep the beast from rampaging, in the end, their battle would seal humanity's fate.
      So, conclusion:
      -Europe is a weird arc floating in the still waters of time, locked on an apocalyptic picture with an innocent child sleeping at the heart of everything, keeping humanity from reaching the world we know today, but probably keeping magic from going extinct, as I suspect it was the Europeans who began promoting the genocide of all magical creatures once the age of Discoveries began;
      -Asia still managed to develop, probably 50/50 the same (not sure if any country would be interested in initiating the Discoveries though), until the arrival of Caim, Angelus and the Mother Watcher, beginning the disease that would wipe out the remaining areas of the globe before the alien invasion;
      -The only humans and magic left are the Europeans and probably part of the Africans, all preserved like insects on crimson and black amber. If the androids or the machines will ever wake them up or try to prevent this timeline of events from happening however, is unknown. Earth is already on a delicate state. It could be unwise to do something radical now, though I suspect they will simply make sure the cycle starts anew in their attempts.
