9S already snapped with 2E's death and the revelation that the entirety of YoRHa were born as lambs to the slaughter, just imagine how the poor boy would react if he ever found out that (technically) he was the one who doomed them all in the first place...
I feel Nines would blame himself for everything and promptly collapse inward if he discovered that one of his many past lives were responsible for the tragedy he went through, really a horrible thought and one can only imagine how poorly he'd handle it.
9S really is one of the most important and central characters in the series, Automata revolves around him and him as well as Emil and Beepy are the 3 who pretty much set the entity of Automata's events into action.
Blaming 9s for what number 9 did is like blaming someone for the war crimes his grandpa comited.

In a way yes but knowing Nines he'd still probably find a way to blame himself for it, boy has terrible mental health and when he's in poor condition he's prone to rash and self destructive forms of thinking.

@@dracopug well it did. That's why i made the comparsion to granpa although in 9s case he is even less related to number 9 that someone to his grandpa. The "9" is the common part of both androids. And it stands for default personality data. Which is like set of character traits an android is built with. Over time this traits shape differently depending on ones experiences. And in 9s case this is most likely his intense curiosity since yorha new before 9s was made that there will be problems with him. (So 2b was made). Amd this is the thing they have common. Everyone who says that number 9 and 9s are different iterations of the same android (or something similar) are wrong. Even yoko taro confirmed in one of the interviews that they are different individuals
@@tarstarkas1091 I'd go the other way and say that they are probably more related. They are basically clones in human terms, at least mentally, so while they aren't the same person, they do have the same nature. So that's something like 40-60% the same.

It’s about the struggle within the cycle of death and rebirth. I think that’s the overall point. We’re all gonna die eventually. Are we all therefore doomed to fail? I don’t think so.
The resistance Androids do actually find out, Jackass sends out an email summing up the reason for YoRHa existence in her own way. You can see it if you go into the emails at the save stations if you go to replay a setting after ending C.
Wouldn't the other orbital bases easily be able prove Yorha was lying? all they'd have to do is check the moon at any time either personally or with a probe.
@@Shadow666_ they could, but they'd also have to get inside the base on the moon, to confirm if there are humans or not. And since it's protected by an Android and a bunch of support pods, I don't think it'd be easy to spy on it, without YoRHa finding out

Number 9 was completely different individual. 9s is not his clone. 9s was made usimg some of the data from number 9. They have only one thing in common. The number "9" which is default personality data. Meaning this is like the set of character trairs they start with. Which propably was curiosity. Number 9 died 5 years before 9s was made. Blamimg 9s for what number 9 did is like blaming someone for war crimes that his grandpa comitted.

I also have this really "out there" theory that the aliens were as fake as the contrived story that humanity survived on the moon. Oh, and did anybody else spot that visits by *Accord* to Devola and Popola were inserted into journal entries in NieR Replicant 1.22.. to match those in NieR: Automata? More whacky-woo-woo timeline shenannigans tying the whole thing to Drakengard 3.
Yeah, I read those in the loading screens of Replicant Ver 1,22. To me Accord fills the same role as Igor in the Persona series: searches to help humanity and supplies you with the means (as in, weapons) to do it
If the aliens are fake... where did the machines first come from?
My theory's always been that there was some alien in area 51 that called for help when humanity went downhill. If they came from 'across the stars' then it stands to reason that the trip took millennia considering the laws of physics mostly apply in NieR. He could also be the one to meet with D&P since he was already on Earth.

I don't have the file on hand as I recently finished Route E of Automata, but somehow Jackass gets her hands on a document basically detailing everything about how the Humans are extinct, Project YoRHa is a lie, and the Machine Network was always controlled by N2 and how it purposefully allowed the Androids to always win despite the odds because even the machines who disconnected from the Network like Pascal were meant to disconnect in order to generate evolutionary data for N2 to help it become more and more perfect. Based off of the wording of the (English version, I don't speak Japanese) text she either obtained this data herself and then disseminated it throughout the Resistance, or was given all these different documents by other Androids and then summarized it for the rest of the Android population. It's an archive file that's added to your inventory after completing either route C or D for those wondering, so in the end even Project YoRHa was a failure as the Androids still learn about how humanity has been extinct for a long ass time.

Again, a couple of notes:
(First off, please beware of spoilers below…)
@2:09 - I don’t believe 寄葉 is an example of 当て字 because it certainly has meaning that makes sense within the context. Yoko typically does not name things just because they sound cool, hence why he picked these particular kanji in the first place. My original translation of this was “passing leaf,” which is likely where you got that, but thinking about it now, “fleeting” would probably work better, ie. a leaf that is fleeting, you see it briefly before its swept up in the wind and is gone. That was exactly what was intended for YoRHa, and ironically enough, this sort of mirrors the allusion between samurai and sakura (how the lives of samurai are short, just like the period when sakura blossom; they are both fleeting).
@5:52 - Regarding Zinnia, it seems like you imagine him to have been around since at least the alien invasion. There is no mention of his origin in any of the surrounding source material that would even give us an idea when he was created, but he’s likely not that old. I don’t see him having been around much earlier than the fall of the Kaguya, since he was automatically put in charge of developing YoRHa after that.
Additionally about Zinnia, he thought up the plan to make androids believe that humanity was safe after fleeing to the moon in 11937 (please see the “Project YoRHa” recitation drama).
And, you missed a BIG point about No9 during that time. He didn’t go nuts until he realized that enemy tech was used in the construction of the Black Boxes, which is what all YoRHa are built to use as their central core system, making them “one” with the enemy. It was sacrilage to him, and that’s why he wanted to destroy YoRHa, because they were essentially no different from the enemy. So, that was his #1 reason for acting. #2 was, of course, to set Zinnia’s original plan to restore android morale with the belief that humanity was still safe and well up on the Moon.
@7:43 - “two months after No9 took Zinnia out.” - This was actually just under a month. The incident on the Labo satellite happened on July 7, 11937, while the first YoRHa android rolled out on August 2, 11937.
@8:20 - “In Japanese, it’s phrased as a question.” - Grammatically speaking, this is a question, but contextually, it is more of a rhetorical one where there is no intended answer. It would be fine to translate it as it was, or to throw something like “Don’t you get it?” in with it somewhere.
@8:42 - “It was designed to fail.” - This isn’t exactly accurate. It was designed to WIN THE WAR, then be scrapped. That’s actually succeeding. The spread of the Logic Virus was everything working as intended according to No9’s plan; it wasn’t the initial plan for YoRHa, even if they were meant to be scrapped after use. A2 surviving the Pearl Harbor Descent and her subsequent defection, as well as 2B & 9S’s survival… really has no effect on the overall plan because… they actually don’t survive. No9’s plan to destroy all of YoRHa and be disposed of by the Pods actually succeeds, it’s not until Pod042 and Pod153 come to their own “enlightenment” and help to restore at least 2B & 9S (there is also documentation that A2 is also restored as well) that things really deviate from the plan.

Cover the connection between Replicant Route E and the Machine Lifeforms. There's gotta be something. Their networks look the same, including the way they rebuilt the Library in Automata, and rebuilt the Shrine in Route E.

so... wait... what happened to # 2 then? She kills #9 off soon after he kills off the project lead and tries to start the whole YoRHa plan... but is that it? Did she just... go away? Why did she allow the plan to continue? Why didn't she try to stop it? Did she? Was the plan unable to be stopped for some reason after it was set in motion?
I think it was implied that she died after killing no. 9 cuz of the fire that started. This is just a conjecture tho so take this with a grain of salt.

Ps. Also, Eventually androids did find out about the purpose of project YoRHa and the objective of the machine network after the collapse of the tower. Jackass writes an report dictating the constant tug of war between both sides and how the both came to the conclusion of perpetuating the standstill.

I started playing NieR: Automata about a week ago because it was on Xbox Game Pass. I did not think I'd like it but I was bored and said "why not". It was leaving Game Pass and I was really enjoying it so I bought it and I have spent so much of the past few days researching NieR and Drakengard Lore, a large portion being your videos. A lot of it is still confusing as hell though (mostly the drakengard stuff, and some Replicant stuff).
I hope we get a game set around the time Emil takes on the aliens.

@@ThBrando The NieR raid tier Dark Apocalypse sheds a LOT of light on what happened to 2B's and 9S's consciousness data after they "ascended" into the ego collective at the end of Automata. I obviously won't spoil it here in the comments, but suffice to say the similarity between androids and the machine lifeforms is simultaneously subtly and outlandishly highlighted in the raid's story. I was excited for it since I'm a huge fan of Yoko Taro and his work and I was not left disappointed.
I pretty sure it's stated by Yoko Taro himself in an interview somewhere that the reason for the random capitalization in both NieR and YorHa is "because it looked cool".

In the orchestral concerts, at least the one in 2024, there was a continuing storyline where 2B and 9S were traveling the world and found a church where the dying androids gathered for salvation. The church was built around Alien technology and repaired 2B completely after her black box was damaged. She and 9S were able to heal her thanks to a mysterious alien black orb that healed her before being destroyed. They now wander the Earth learning to enjoy life.

Something you didn't get is that Zinnian's plan was originally to use the YoRHa androids as war machines, to fight instead of the "true androids" (Those without the black box), the reason why the Androids YoRHa didn´t have and still doesn´t has a name, it is because "they doesn´t deserve them" since they are part machines and "not true androids" in the eyes of the other androids (Back then), what is more, the plan was that once they YoRHa Androids will kill all the machines, they will be immediately destroyed by activating their black boxes with remote control (In Zinnia's defense, he started to feel pretty bad as soon as he was living with them for a while, but this better explains Number 9's anger).
Number 9's plan wasn´t to use Zinnian's plan to end the war, but to perpetuate it forever (That's what this "back door" is for, so that in the event that YoRHa began to win the war, it would lose, and the same happened if the machines started to win), so that YorHA Androids would always be around and die for something "worthwhile" instead of just being "throwaway machines" (Which is ironic, I know).
By the way, for Numbuh 9, what made him feel that his death was worth it was being killed by Numbuh 2 (Yep, 9S definitely inherited that lol).

Gosh, so many questions... Don't know if you still check your comments but:
Is there any information anywhere if the original Emil is still alive somewhere?
Do the pods develop free will towards the end when they decide to revive A2, 2B and 9S, giving them a chance to be outside their programmed cycle.
How much did P33 giving the machine lifeforms "intelligence" change them?
Does anybody in the world still around (besides potentially Emils) have free will? Or do they all follow their core programming, even though they think they have free will?
Is there something bigger still in play behind the curtains? As you said yourself YoRHa did and went down they way it was supposed to happen, at the same time it seems like the Pods have a different goal or as if everything happening is just another cycle /collecting data for somebody/something before the next cycle will happen.
Since the Nier games always seem to play in Japan/Tokyo, is there any information about machines or androids on the rest of the planet?
The sidequest in the Pascal village where he ends up shooting something to Mars... is there any more information about that? Seems rather odd/specific and it never comes up again.
And last question, since humanity died out 1000s of years ago and there are like what? ~10.000 years between Nier and Nier Automata, who build the cities Automata plays in? Are those supposed to still be leftovers from before Nier Replicant?
A lot of the answers to your questions are subjective, but I can do a few.
P33 giving the machines intelligence was probably one of the most singificant events in the entire timeline and changed the course of the war.
NieR is set in Japan / Tokyo. We know the machines completely dominate North and South America, the androids don't touch that area. We can assume they're worldwide since there are pre game stories set in places like France.
The ones who built the cities were the Human Heritage Reclamation Foundation, a group of androids tasked to preserve human culture.

I haven't really searched up on the topic, but is the FFXIV NieR raid not something that someone has already covered?

Additional probable info: Beepy also known as P33, gives alien machine sentience. P-33 probably derived from papyrus 33 containing Biblical Act of Apostles about Saint Paul spreading the wisdom/word of God. Ringed a bell? Then Adam and Eve, the two most sentient machine life forms had their name from Biblical Adam and Eve who ate the forbidden fruit( snake says when you it it yo can become as Gods) and so become aware of right and wrong, past and future. In short, the fruit made them sentient.

All YoRHa were built with pseudo-AI rather than standard android AI because they were meant to be a one-off thing (you can also argue that the AI is a separate thing from their personality, but it's unimportant for this explanation). Because of this, each "Number" YoRHa has a standard base personality. So, even if the individual androids are not the same, the base personality is... That is why 2B has to keep doing her thing to 9S because, just like the No9 prototype in 11937, 9S is just as curious and is bound to discover the truth on his own.
