I recently bought this off the playstation store and ive beaten P4G on very hard with no issue, P3FES on hard with some difficulty, P5 only on hard and SMT 4 on the standard difficulty. I was thinking of playing this game on its hardest difficulty like i usually do (except 5 but eh) how hard would you say the difficulty is for this?
Well by now, I'd imagine you're used to how SMT games work, so this shouldn't be too much harder than some of the others. Like SMT4, it has the press turn system. Except there's no smirk and you're more limited in the number of skills you can carry. (At least, from what I can tell from what I've seen in 4. Haven't played it myself.) The big difference between Normal and Hard in this game is that in Hard mode, you pretty much can't run from battles without a smoke bomb or trafuri, and item prices are triple what they are in Normal. This can make the early game really rough, but that's pretty much par for the course for SMT games. So yeah, it can be pretty hard. Especially going in blind. And hey! Today is the game's 13th anniversary here in the States! How timely of you to ask! Haha
scorptatious oh wow i did not know that actually haha, ive heard that everyone struggled mainly with matador their first time playing, to my knowledge smt 4 didnt have a hard mode, at least im not aware if it unlocked or something after beating it. Ill try this on hard then. I think this game isnt like 4 where the main character can die though, idk why this is a reoccurring trend in smt, even happens in persona q with risky mode haha.
Dante gets a skill called Son's Oath which boosts his damage by 50% at Level 83. He didn't have it at this point. Also take into account that Buff wasn't buffing physical attacks at all in any of these fights.

@@unbubbletea To be fair, the utility he brought to the table is helpful even if he isn't doing Magma Axis levels of damage.
