I went through the trouble of watching boruto fillers to bring this spectacular video to you. I talk about if Boruto is trash, Naruto, Kawaki, filler characters and much more.
I was in 4th grade when Naruto came out on toonami and I watched pretty bits and pieces of the chunin exams. It wasn’t until lockdown in 2020 that I actually watched the whole series and I straight up binged it, even watched filler. Some of it was good other stuff not so much lmao. But the cannon story was seriously great. Even as a grownass man I enjoyed it. When I finished shippuden I went straight into boruto and oh my god the tonal shift was jarring. I had zero prejudice going into it because I didn’t know anything about the entire story (except for fragments of the Naruto chunin exams from over a decade ago) and didn’t watch any TH-cam videos about it cause I hate any type of spoiler but I honestly just couldn’t get into Boruto. It felt like a straight up children’s show that could’ve aired on nick toons or something where Naruto part I & II felt like any age group could watch it. I gave Boruto 20 episodes before I tapped out. Then waited a month or so and tried it again and couldn’t get past episode 35ish. It’s like they told a 13 year old to write a story about Narutos son. I try to be reasonable and not hyperbolic but when I say Boruto is trash I really mean it dawg lol So then when I started watching videos of other peoples opinions I knew I wasn’t just tripping. I really do wish they’d adapt the light novels because they’re solid. Even more so I wish we would get an anthology series but oh well. Is what it is.
You can definitely tell they're trying to appeal to that younger audience with Boruto. The manga is definitely more in line with the naruto feel, but I definitely get where you're coming from lol. It was a chore to get through all the fillers.
I'm watching through Boruto (skipping some eps and reading the manga) and watching/rewatching Naruto at the same time (I also watched and read bits and pieces of it when I was younger). I like parts of Boruto a lot, there's some really moving stuff as well as some interesting parts. But I agree, it always solidly feels like I'm watching a "kids' show," different tone from the original show. Naruto is obviously a kids' show too, but I do feel like it has more appeal for adults. That said there seem to be a lot of adults in the Boruto fanbase, which makes sense as they're people who grew up with Naruto, and there are some themes in Boruto that can resonate with adults (mostly the family stuff) even if the handling and tone is very solidly "kids' show." (the manga's tone is definitely different, which doesn't necessarily make it better, but it seems more aimed at adults).
It actually Paine me to watch the episodes in hopes of storyline to get better! NOP! IT DID NOT! My little nephews didn't even take interest to it either! 😂
I’d say the Boruto series is focused more on Quantity than quality and it’s hard to even tell who pitches the anime canon and filler ideas. It’s like they’re intentionally trying to piss everyone off.
I started watching boruto only for the latest mini arc where Kawaki is a secret body guard and goes to ninja school with Himawari. This anime cannon but manga filler made me love Himawari's character, to the point that I would rather the spin off be about her. The old filler of naruto really helped fill out the characters of the original. The manga Hinata was hardly talked about, but the anime flushed her out to the point of her becoming on of my favorite female characters of all time. You are right in that the most important thing for filler is to help flush out characters that weren't covered in the source so the source can take notes and make it fully cannon.
Some of the Boruto Anime Filler, I wish was manga canon. SOME. I actually really liked the stories we got with Shikadai, Mitsuki, and Kawaki inbetween the major arcs.
lol this is a good video your really underrated ( you got a new sub ;) ) and naruto shippudens fillers are not that bad except for that naruto ironman episode and all the fillers that came in between the war arc
One good fight scene with Naruto and people start calling Boruto peak anime, like bro it’s not even his show at that point go back and rewatch Naruto if you only care about the show when Naruto shows up in the background
The thing is probably how the shows presented themselves. Naruto started immediately with 'canon' material and had few filler here and there before it reached full filler mode. So people were able to tolerate it. Boruto is the opposite starting immediately off with filler nobody gives a damn about with few 'canon' stuff here and there. But more importantly, nothing of that 'anime filler' adds to the character progression or anything related to the flash forward. When you watch the first few seconds of the start of the show, would you expect a goofy almost slice of life series? Probably not. All the things good in Boruto are related to the Karma, Kawaki and how things lead up to the timeskip. They are the only things that feel like they were written competently. Same goes with Naruto with each arc adding to Naruto's character that aren't filler or the Sai arc. I consider Sai arc filler since it adds nothing in the long run because Sai and Yamato are irrelevant and there is nothing from that arc besides that that translates over. Ultimately that is how I disguise filler and non-filler. If we go by anime only, anything in an adaptation is canon to that adaptation. We should use the proper words to refer to the proper things.
I watched all Boruto fillers. They have many problems: Pacing, animation, writing, power scaling. Only exception is Kara actuation arc. Some other arcs still can be enjoyable but doesn't have good writing overall.
I still have problems with the main show, but yeah the anime cannon is an issue. It would have been nice if the anime cannon focused on developing the characters the manga would use later like Boruto’s classmates, but I guess not. My problems with the anime: The consistent nerfing and destruction of Naruto and sasuke. The lack of care that they put in to build up their villains especially the alien ones. I just really do not care for them. I said it once and I will say it again Hidan had more character in his pinky than anyone in Kara. Also, the ability to absorb or nullify ninjutsu. Yes they could do it in Naruto, but it was limited to top tier and had massive weaknesses.
How does Boruto already have 200 episodes I strongly believe they should have gone the Db Super route, make the anime the main canon with the manga being a separate universe That way the anime can use their entire crew to develop characters, never having to worry about affecting the main continuity because they are the main continuity so anything goes, they would have complete freedom to develop the show as they see fit and can actively tailor it to fit what the fans want, instead of having to effectively do nothing until the manga releases a few more chapters, which literally takes weeks, Imagine the amount of actually character driven arcs we could have had already

imo manga cannon and anime cannon need to mix in order for cannon boruto to be perfect, the manga sometimes misses a lot that is in anime cannon that just improves the immersion and flow of the story. this wouldnt make boruto good as the plot by itself sucks but it would definetely make the manga more appealing and more in-depth in certain areas. examples include: chunin exams, events prior to momoshiki strike, borutos relationship with other teams and his family, etc,...
That’s usually the benefit of watching the anime but the anime is sadly pretty bad. I definitely agree they should focus on the manga and broaden the story a bit
It actually isn't a continuation of Naruto. It's a new story BASED on the original Naruto story. That's why Boruto and his generation are now the main focus of the story and Naruto as well as his generation have kind of stepped into the side character role or the role of Lady Tsunade and The Raikage. They only show up at certain pivotal points of the story and if there is a villain that needs requires their fighting strength. The more people view it as a continuation and not a new story build using an existing one. The more they'll see it as Not Naruto in the negative way and not in the way of how it progresses Boruto's story.
After 6-7 years, to reach the point where a "newbie" (Kawaki) sealed someone like Naruto with deus ex machina pop up sealing jutsu (remember, Kawaki isn't a shinobi), after nerfing Naruto so much he's just a joke (i don't mention Sasuke, worse...), i think the "give a chance" is way too much above the line of the acceptable quote. Even if i could agree the manga is better than the anime, doesn't change the whole point of the sequel being totally wasted and useless, instead of focusing on a new story. And if the best part of the Boruto's story is Momoshiki, i just want to tell this: this was basically inside the movie from 2015, even before Boruto's manga started... So... It really tells a lot about Boruto's story / manga / anime whatever, after 6 years of writing & anime.

I just caught up to the manga...I saw like 100episodes in the past and I'll say something weird.... The anime canon filler helped give a damn about the next gen....Mitsuki and Sarada get no development in the mamga
Regardless how good the story is, why is it worth for some shows to tarnish their reputation with forced filler, when the show could just go on a hiatus and build anticipation?
I only watch Boruto because of Sasuke x Sakura and maybe Naruto x Hinata also but not the Boruto and the rest of the kids .I always skip the Boruto and other kids episode .But when Sasuke comes again then I will watch Boruto again.

Anime cannon ≠ filler. Anime cannon is cannon to the story of Kishimoto. Give it time, Boruto will be getting even the Code arc in 2023. Also, the filler percantage might be higher, bc there's basically no cannon and non-cannon mixed episodes or with bad pacing, unlike in One Piece. Not comparing the two or hating on One Piece, but I would rather watch something, with weekly episodes of filler, than weekly episodes of cannon, but badly paced episodes. My opinion tho.

Watching this in November 2022 and laughing at Boruto doesn't have much fillers
