  • Video i made where i discuss 1 of the most common mistakes people make when a car is tailgating them in where most people usually slow down or slam on the brakes. This could be dangerous for a number of reasons, some of which most people do not even think about. This is not advice of what exactly you should do, but things to consider before having road rage. I own this video and all rights to it.

    I see lots of comments saying "If someone has a medical emergency, they should get an ambulance".. While i agree, sometimes they are just panicked and may not be thinking, or again, maybe they are rushing to the hospital to visit a dying family member, or like i said, person may have just committed a crime and is armed and dangerous. Point is, i do NOT think it's smart to slam your breaks or antagonize them. I will not argue with those of you who disagree... you want to play childish games and engage them, that's on you, but don't cry when you mess with the wrong person 1 day and they hurt you or take your life, or.. if you cause an accident that their dash cam records, and you get charges bought on you which road rage in lots of states is a felony.

      I AGREE also,, the people who antagonize the tailgaters are creating unsafe conditions for EVERYONE. A true story :: I was driving on an icy road as fast as I safely could and a tailgater was way too close. I maintained my speed and concentrated on maintaining control of my truck. Finally the tailgater decided to pass me, I reduced my speed as he went past and the car slid and did a few circles and hit the guard rail broadside. I don't know if the driver blamed me or not, but I know if I hadn't maintained concentration on my own driving it would be sliding off the road.. Since then I take an alternate route home on snow days - much slower driving and never a tailgater.

      m1shadow I just got into a road rage incident on a rural mountain road where the guy was behind me and driving within inches of my s10 blazer and I pulled over to let him go around me and when I did he slowed down and started slamming the brakes which pissed me off but I didn't try to get revenge because I think he's done that to me before so I just got his car tag number and reported him to the sheriff.

      I had an emergency my girlfriend broke her leg in a car accident. I almost didn’t make it in time to see my girlfriend because this person I cut off got out of his car and screamed at me and I explained to him that I had an emergency and he said didnt give a shit. I went wrong by telling the aggressor that I was going to blow his brains out and then I hit him in the face with my car door and spat on him and then I just drove off giving the bird.

    I had one incident years ago where I was going about 85 in the fast lane, behind another car. A guy zooms up behind me and starts tailgating me bad. So I slow down a little, give him a small brake check or two and he starts honking and giving me the finger. As I'm dropping my speed a huge tractor trailer decides that its a good opportunity to now squeeze in between me and the car in front of me, cutting me off in the process. I had no other choice than to violently slam on my brakes. The guy who was tailgating behind me veers off a shallow embankment to avoid colliding with my car. While I had hoped he wasn't hurt, I did drive off hoping that he had learned his lesson. Nowadays I try and move over and let them pass. Sometimes that's just a whole lot easier than dealing with the back and forth road rage nonsense.

    Suddden brake checking is dangerous but I disagree with your opinion of slowing down. If you are being tailgated you should gradually slow down as it will give you more time to avoid an accident, a lower speed collision will do less damage and if you are going slow it will be easier for the tailgater to pass.

    A buddy of mine was a professional truck driver. He would run a double load of canned food goods a few hundred miles in the middle of the night. His advice was to not look in the rear view mirror. A tailgater would be focused ahead. As a driver, you should also be focused ahead as you cannot control a tailgater. Next observation. I had a college educated relative who rear ended people in at least 4 separate accidents in his lifetime. This means that a tailgater will never have a lesson and learn.

    What’s a good mindset before I leave the house before driving? I find myself anxious about getting tailgated before it has even happened, also people running red lighted often just makes me anxious, I find road incidents ruin my day, how do I not think about it and move on quickly? When I first learnt to drive I didn’t care about bad drivers or get so angry, now I seem to take everything personally and just hate humanity for risking each other’s lives for no good reasons

    • @m1shadow

      Trust me, i understand!! I was rear ended last year and it hurt my neck and back. It really took up my anxiety. Best thing i can say is be extra careful, try to avoid weaving in and out of traffic, leave space between you and the car in front of you at stops in case you need to get away quick, and leave earlier then you have to when going somewhere so that you do not feel rushed and do not have to speed.

    I only slow down because they won't hit as hard, or even at all, if I have to brake quickly. Plus, if possible, I move over to let them pass. Based on what you're saying, there really is no superiority to assert over a dangerous driver.

  • @thebaldchef14
    @thebaldchef14 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Chris, you are a level headed man. I cannot stand being tailgated, if I am driving on the freeway, I always just change lanes, to let them pass. If I wanted two Lane Road, I will slow down, even to the point of almost stopping. If this truly is a medical emergency, this will easily get the other driver, a chance to pass, if not, they typically back off. I know this is probably not the best way to handle the situation, but it's just what I do. Maybe I should rethink what I will do in the next situation when it will ultimately reoccur. Thanks for your insight on this touchy subject.

I remember when i was 20.. young and dumb, i ended up in a brawl with some guy at a gas station because him and his buddy were tailgating me and my friend. They were tailgating us, so we slowed down, then pulled in the gas station and they followed us.. words were exchanged, and me and 1 of them started swinging. It was broken up before it got too bad and before cops came, and neither 1 of us was badly injured aside from a bloody lip and maybe some light bruises, but it could have been a lot worse, thank God it wasnt.

    If you want to go the speed limit or less you should not be in the left lane to begin with, this lane is a passing lane. It is very frustrating and irritating when people drive in this lane and it screws up traffic flow, it also causes frustration which you could've avoided. If you want to be safe/slow then please do it in the proper lane which is the middle or right lanes. It is also unsafe to pass someone from the right so if you are in the passing lane forcing them to pass on the right you are creating a dangerous situation. So please use the lanes properly and remember the left lane is a fast/passing lane. Remember the law, keep right pass left.

    One more consideration. What if you need to stop or slow down and that tailgater is on your butt. Do you just say 'meh' and let the tailgater push you into that mother with her child who stepped out? This is more a thought about a safe following distance, safe stopping distance and in town tailgating. narrow town streets that are single lane per direction, stopping to pull over and let them pass can cause a major traffic problem.
    I'm a big fan of ignoring the tailgater. But when they put me at risk of being pushed into someone, what would be the solutions that you see? Picture roads with no shoulder, hard tall curbs to a sidewalk and remember that dude is on your behind and pulling into a driveway is all the same as hitting your brakes to them. To them they see red brake lights come on suddenly. They don't know why except to maybe think you are messing with them.

    Isn't the universal emergency signal in a non-emergency vehicle the use of four-way flashers while moving? That's what I was told in basic Driver Ed.
    Or you could consider an ambulance for true medical emergencies (that's why EMT's do all that fancy training.)
    Anyway, whenever I see a person approaching from behind with four-way flashers I generally consider it to be an emergency. Otherwise, it's just usually an asshole tailgater (approximately 99.99% of the time!)

    K. Check this out! I see this every morning I go to work; people will tailgate you or fly around you to cut you off, just to save a few seconds. It's not an emergency, it's dumb-asses who can't manage time. If you have an emergency, there's this little thing on your car called "emergency flashers". "How do you know the tailgater isn't a nut, and hasn't offed someone"? How to deal with such a person: they have to leave their vehicle to get to yours...once they break cover, pull out your gun and splatter them! Most cases, this is just people being inconsiderate and being an asshole. These people get what's coming to them!

    the 1st example you used maybe they got a phone call with someone who was in a real bad accident..... that don't give them the right to tailgate...... that could just cause them to get in a accident....... anytime your behind the wheel of a motor vehicle you must be alert all other things aside...... a car or even a truck can do a lot of damage to you or someone you might accidentally hit. so I don't see that as an excuse to tailgate

    • @m1shadow

      Not making an excuse for them, but no one is perfect, and when a person is in that state of mind, they are not thinking clearly.

      just suppose someone had a medical emergency so they have to tailgate to make the guy ahead go faster, well, the guy in front just keeps the same speed, so now the tailgater has to shoot his tires so that he will pull off the road and let him pass. If the guy with the flat tires keeps going and doesn't pull over, I guess the tailgater has to kill him.

    Medical emergencies is not a good excuse to tailgate. Most people that tailgate are just assholes with no life! The best solution is to use Hazard flashers! Hopefully the tailgaters will understand to back off then! If it continues, get their TAG NUMBER!

      That's up to you what you do. I believe in the video what i myself feel is best is to just drive the way you normally do, and if i have a spot i can safely pull off to, then i like to pull over and let them pass.... doing that does 2 things; 1 gets me out of danger of being rear ended by them, 2, gets them out of my hair.

      I understand what you are saying. But. I live in in this Shit hole Citry full of "Carwise"
      Really Hateful people. Last month I drove past a car on I-480 in Omaha ne. I was in
      the left lane and asa I signaled to move over to the right lane, there was Mr Omaha.
      When I attempted to change lanes Asswipe wouldn't let me over. I mean He had to
      beat the shit out of his Car to cut Me off, the way He did. So, I tried to get behind
      Him. He cut me off there too. This went on for over a Mile. Fortunately there was a
      Cop when I needed one. And He pulled Us Both over. Well? Really, He pulled over
      Mr. Omaha. I pulled over to ask if there was anything I could do or if I needed to sign,
      to file Roadrage against Mr. Omaha.
      Cop said No. You May Go, as soon as you feel it's safe for you to do so.
      I said Thank You
      But. How many innocent people did this Jerk cause to be late for work? or otherwise
      ruin their day? Because this asshole made me miss an important meeting. I don't
      know what happened to Him. But I hope he got a suspended drivers licence out of it.
      I know this is a different example of Road Rage. But now you can about imagine,
      how bad the tailgaters are. Infact some of these Omahans do this kind of shit just
      for Sport. I do have plans to move far away from here. And it isn't Me. Friends that
      drive to do their job, all over the world in one case. That Omaha Ne has the Worst
      Drivers in the World. More Worse than Bangladesh. Yes I mean India.

      @m1shadow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, yea, that certainly must have been a horrible experience. Trust me, i get it, tailgaters annoy me.. i would be lying if i said i still sometimes don't get the urge to slow my SUV down to a crawl and not let them pass me, but aside from the points i made in the video, here is a few other things to think about; 1, a lot of people have dashcams these days, so lets say you start slowing down or hitting the breaks to annoy him, that person may really be a prick by falsely crying victim and then call the cops and say "This guy keeps hitting the breaks and slowing down having road rage with me and i am just trying to get somewhere", then they show the dash cam to the cops, and automatically you look like the bad guy and may even get a ticket or harassed. 2, what if they rear end you and you get hurt.... I was rear ended almost 2 years ago and it wasn't even road rage... just some kid slammed into the back of me so hard my rear bumper was embedded in his front end, and i was taken to the ER on a stretcher and still have complications. Not disagreeing with you because especially after that accident, all the more i can't stand tailgaters, but at the same time, 2 wrongs don't make a right. Know what i mean?

      m1shadow I agree with your ideas it seems many commenters are looking for a cure worse than the disease - - they see themselves as in the right for what ever they do because the other guy started it.One comment I saw starts out "I was going 85 in the fast lane" well-----everything else stems from that stupidity - - - - - there IS NO fast lane which allows any speed you choose,- - - - - m1shadow, It seems you are throwing pearls at swine. Look at some of the weird comments you are getting even though your advice is good. They claim it's not an ego thing but that's exactly what it is.I really believe we need to get the lawmakers involved - - - make it a bigger fine than speeding, it is a moving violation . Then the cops in the speed traps can put down their donuts and pull these menaces over.

    Not gonna lie, I brake check people hahahaha I CAN'T STAND when someone is right on my bumper, ESPECIALLY when they have those newer headlights that are way too bright. In Florida, if you hit another car from behind, you are automatically at fault regardless of the circumstances so people are usually very cautious about hitting someone from behind and one good brake check usually does the trick. But lately I've stopped doing that if for no other reason than I just don't want to mess up my car even if the other driver has to pay. So now I just slow down. Not too slow, just slow enough that they no longer want to be behind me. But yeah, you're right, these are not smart things to do, especially in a big city like Miami. I've had guns flashed at me before on the road. Road rage is admittedly a fault of mine. I love driving but hate traffic.

      @m1shadow  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +sakecity7 Totally hear you buddy! Like i said in the video.. i used to do it too.. drive slow, slam on the brakes.. 1 time i even ended up pulling over and fist fighting some guy in a gas station parking lot over him tailgating me; note, that particular incident was almost 20 years ago when i was a young dumb kid with a chip on my shoulder and feeling i needed to prove myself. So yea, normal reaction is to brake check them, but, best off not as we never know what the person has goi8ng on.. could even be on the way to the hospital because they found out a loved one is dying. As always, i appreciate you watching my videos and your valuable input! Enjoying your wildlife videos too :)

    I still think there is no excuse for tailgating. It happened to me tonight and I lost my shit. I hope someone INSTILLS fear into that driver. Tailgaters can create monsters, the former victims who retaliate.

  • @IkarosCanFly
    @IkarosCanFly 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only people that get tailgated are people that are doing something wrong when they drive. Granted there are people that tailgate without passing that vehicle when giving the opportunity. When I get tailgated the first thing I think to myself is, what am I doing wrong to make this person tailgate me. Usually its because I'm going too slow so I speed up and you know what happens next? The person behind me stops tailgating me. Amazing how life works so simple like that. Want even more exciting info? Well the people that complain the most about tailgaters never think that they are in the wrong and they even go as far as brake checking the tailgater thus committing another act against humanity. Long story short, you see someone brake checking someone, you should call the cops on them because they're most likely psycho psychotic for putting themselves in danger and everyone else.

    • @IkarosCanFly
      @IkarosCanFly 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You want to know why tailgating isn't dangerous? Because people have brake lights and if you really want me to push it, how about race car drivers? They don't have brake lights and they tailgate each other on the track at higher speeds than most drivers are used to. I'm sorry you're not an adequate driver, and that tailgating scares you but for people like me, driving is so easy that I don't think twice about pushing people to go the speed limit on the road. If you can't drive properly don't drive at all. Driving is very easy. Also I want you to re-read your comment and then tell me who you think shouldn't breed yet alone raise kids. Your use of childish profanity makes me laugh. Next time you try to be edgy, don't mix ethics and profanity into your comment. It really does make you look like a hypocrite. But just food for thought, what would you do if everyone in your area started going 30mph under the speed limit for the rest of your life? The reason I ask is because you seem to be obsessed on only one side of the problem. The problem involves tailgaters and people that carelessly impede traffic. Yes I agree that someone that lacks in vehicle driving skills can make tailgating dangerous but in the end it all pertains to "driving skill". A person that knows how to drive can easily tailgate without issue and also it depends on how much of a gap you leave. I have seen people rage at drives leaving a gap of 5 feet and I've seen drives not care at all about a gap of 3 feet. But in the end brake-checking is far more dangerous than tailgating no matter the driving skill.

      Good for you, possiably? Also you used the phrase window licker incorrectly. I never said I was special, unique, or interesting. Why are your comments on your profile so trolly and irrelevant? You certainly are trying to insult me yet your supporting points are irrelevant. You've only proved to me that you have anger issues that you make apparent and you needlessly insult people. The proof is all over your profile. Basically, I'm calling you a jerk.

      You are just a bigot in a nutshell. You have made no success in proving my beliefs wrong. You have only made yourself look like a hypocrite. You have proved to me that you are a very narrow minded person because you only rant about your opinions, use derogatory statements that are invalid, and have yet tried to persuade my beliefs in any other manner. You cannot insinuate that you care about "people's lives" while you are needless insulting someone while also insulting a whole group of human's sexual preference. I have already explained that I do not believe what I do is harmful and thus I do not believe that I am putting anyone's life in danger. When will you start using facts to explain yourself instead of banter that is commonly expressed by hormonal teenagers.
