At last, a beginner video that doesnt suddenly deepdive . Thinking of buying the basic package. Thanks!
Chris, Your video is the best introductory video to Studio One, and i have watched a number of videos. Your pace, your subject matter, your “digestible” way of imparting knowledge. !! THANK YOU !
Thanks for watching and the kind words! I’ll try my best to improve and keep the tutorials coming 😅
After going through countless “tutorials” where people turn 50 knobs, I found this one that made it finally work for me. I was about to give up but thanks to you I could record my first song.
Simplest and most understandable explanation for quick use
Subbed!!
What a refreshing change from so many yt videos where the creator tries to demonstrate a basic concept but then pulls up a project containing dozens of tracks and skips from channel to channel too quickly while I'm trying to keep a bead on what's actually happening.
In contrast , your video starts with a blank sheet and records arguably the bare minimum number of tracks before going on to mix them.
Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback and glad it helps 🙂
Thank you for releasing this video! I just got the Studio zone software. It didn’t take long for me to figure out I was going to need some guidance to get going…lol. I’m no computer expert, but I’m not completely ignorant either. But the world of DAWs is pretty new to me at this point, but I’m finding this video perfect for what I needed to get up and running, so thank you! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Truly amazing! Thanks for your knowledge. Clear, precise and truly simplified.
Just purchased presonus interface with studio one. I’ll be figuring it out today with help of your videos. Thank you 🤙🏼
Great to hear! Thanks for watching 😁
First time instructor speaks to the audience, not at the audience. You are awesome! Subscribed!! Thank you!
Very very helpful! I have been learning a lot in just a few weeks since I purchase Studio One Pro 7. One thing, I didn't see anything more about when you record vocals or guitar in Mono. The input shows "Input L" does that mean the vocals and guitar are only coming through in the left speaker? If so, how did you get them in the end to come through in both L+R or does it automatically convert that way as a stereo file in the end? Thank you again for your amazing content. I have subscribed as well.
im a freshie... thanks for this....
I just finished doing the hands on part on my newly bought StudioLive 16USB unit..
and still have a longer way to go.. but with the software part.. this covers mostly a lot for basics.. DRUMMER here
All I wanted to learn was how to record a simple track and play back. Why go through all the mix and reverb on a simple intro video. Take me back to basics. thanks!
This was awesome!!! Great video!!! So helpful, and thorough! I'm totally clueless with this stuff, and you made it very easy to follow. Thanks!!!!
Chris, PLEASE do more intro vids on Studio One. I’m non-technical, and need all the help i can get !! ( I have Studio One 6 )
Thanks for watching! 😁 More videos on the way 🙂 is there any certain topic you would like for me to cover?
@@heychrisgreen Recording acoustic drums over a song track!
Great video, Chris. Appreciate your explanation of the importance of Settings as it applies to latency.
Thank you for doing this, I've just got studio one and it was a bit overwhelming but you have helped with, really good video thank you again 😊
Dude this is really the video im looking for. Thank you so much! Great video!
I am new to this dog, and I wanted to know if you are available for some Q & A ? ASAP
Love Studio One. Good video. Found out everything I learned from my brother put me pretty far ahead on the recording level. Great to know about the limiter also. Since he had a kid haven't been able to continue our apprenticeship
Thank you making this video, as it helps someone who’s been wanting to use Studio One but feels overwhelmed.
Keeping this 'bite sized' is really clever because people will be eager to hear results and you take just long enough to prep then record.
It is also where the fun begins and confusion is dispelled by that glimpse of a light in the fog.
This is the way to instruct -- as opposed to teaching.
You explain this so well. I’m in the beginning as well. Tired of paying for studio time 😂
Thanks! Hope it helps! 🙏
Thank you, been struggling. So many of the other videos on recording with presonus are from guys that have lots of experience with other programs so it’s just so natural to them they don’t teach the basics
Thanks for watching! I’m glad it helps! 🙂
@@heychrisgreen I am moving all my recording and music stuff today into a new (not so great) space this morning watched the rock song one and think I learned the few things I couldn’t figure out before. God bless brotha thanks again
Chris Thank You for making this clip for the clueless….. Now Im able to track basic demos on a click
Cool! Have fun recording and good luck on your journey 🙂
Great intro to studio one! Thanks a bunch!
Glad you like it! 😁
I know it's been a while since this was uploaded, but I wanted to say I like your voice :D
Gracias. Me gusto mucho tu video tutorial para principiantes como yo. Gracias.
De nada! 😊
i found your video while looking for the cost to upgrade from 5 to 6.5. you’d think there’d be a shiny button on the site that directs a person to the different upgrade options but in studio one fashion i have all the options to repurchase the latest version at full price.. with that said i like your instruction style. you seem very comfortable and are straight forward with the info. keep it up! instant sub.
This video helped me alot..😊Thankyou
What headphones 🎧 you used sir
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 🎧
Stick with the 80 ohms version if you’re interested.. I got the 250 ohms set and they require a lot of amplitude from your audio interface.. great for drumming though!
Can you please list ir write down the steps of what and how you did what you did at the end of the video where everything was fast forwarded? it would be a great help!
I've been serching for this.
Just the kind of introductory tutorial I, a total newbie to recording stuff myself, was looking for, keeping it simple without presets is just what I want to do. Thank you so much for this great step by step tutorial, especially for not rushing through the steps, so it's possible to keep up. I'll subscribe hoping for more great tutorials to help me become a bit more proficient in recording my own songs.
Btw, I have the Shure SM7B also and a Focusrite 212, what was the Cloud device needed to boost the Shure? How is that set up, does it go between the mic and the Focusrite? Many thanks! I'd also be interested in how to create click tracks for the stage and I've been wondering how that works to hear the clicks in your ears but not through the PA system. Could you point me in the direction of a helpful video for that as well please?
Excellent job dear Brother :) thank you very much :)
Thank you! Glad you liked it
Thank you! It has been truly helpful to me.
Just stumbled on your channel gonnna check out more. God Bless you and your family
Thanks for watching! 🙂
Click track is good for timing to keep the song rolling smooth.
I want to create a video with myself playing a song that would have alto, tenor, and baritone sax parts. Also, video of me when I'm playing. I'm assuming Presonus is music only. I have imovie, quicktime, and garageband. Garageband has a metronome, but I don't believe I can record video simultaneous to the sound in garageband. I see many videos on YT like I want to make. Not sure what software is being used for these videos. I have a microphone, audio interface, etc. Any recommendations on software? Thanks!
You’ll need to record the audio and video at the same time.. I would recommend running GarageBand with your audio interface.. then you’ll load the video footage into iMovie. You’ll have to trim off any outtakes and layer your videos together.. I believe iMovie can crop your videos so you can arrange them into one screen… when your video is done you can drop your mixed audio track and mute the camera audio for a better sound.. this is a complicated video to make but common enough there’s probably some dedicated tutorials on TH-cam
You have been so so helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great video.A good value for my time.
Great tutorial.....🤘
Very nice video! Good presentation. Make more please.
Thank you! More on the way! 😁 Feel free to reach out if you have questions or specific requests
I just wanted to offer a tip to any new recording enthusiasts out there, and that is to buy a pair of Closed Back headphones. After years of using the old standard AKG 240, you realize this is where it's at. There are many good brands to choose from, but these Sony MDR-7506 do the trick for me.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Hi, Chris; my name is Ron, and I appreciate your time and teaching here! I made it through but am receiving an error message when I try to play either the .wav or .mp3 file. “We can’t open the file. It’s encoded in a format that isn’t supported.” (0xC00D36B4) Have you seen this, or can you give directions if I may have set something incorrectly? Thank you!
🤔 I’m not sure I’ve seen that before.. what program are you trying to play the mp3 with?
@@heychrisgreen Magically, it seems to be working today. I am using Windows Media Player. Thanks again for your help with all this content!
Hi, is there a way to enhance the visibility of the active channel with an even brighter color compared to the others? My aim is to make it effortless to distinguish the channel that's currently playing at all times.
I wish Studio One could outline or highlight a feature for the active channel in the edit window. This could extend to its channel mix layout on the left side. Such an addition would greatly enhance the user experience. For easier distinction, the channel should be outlined in a distinctive shape, frame, or continuous brighter shade color.
Hi Chris. Im using an sm57 mic to a presonus 24c into studio one. The audio signal is very low, even with all the knobs turned max.
I know the setup i have is very common, but it seems the only solution people have online is "get a refund", id rather try and fix it. Have you any idea what the problem could be, amazing video by the way.
Thanks so much!
Turn the Mixer knob on your interface all the way towards “Inputs” and make sure your headphones are turned up quite a bit.. for the SM57 even on the most affordable interfaces you should be fine with the gain knob around 70% of its max setting.. I’m wondering if you could swap out your mic cable perhaps?
Once the signal has been recorded in Studio One make sure the Mixer knob is on “Playback” instead of “Inputs”. You can add gain to any recorded signal but hopefully you’re getting at least -20db on your tracks.. all this should clear up if it’s your interface being faulty or not. I use the Audiobox 96 with an SM57 and get decent levels for sure. Hope this helps! 🙏
@heychrisgreen hey man, thanks so much for your reply.
So I don't know if this is normal, but I'm barely getting any green lights of the audio interface when I play, so It shouldn't be a software issue.
Will I have to get one of them cloud lifters? Or should I get a condenser mic?
@@bobbob-lw5ve hmmmm 🤔 what are you recording? I believe you should be seeing at least the first green light coming on.. turn off the 48v phantom power just in case. After that I’m not sure what to tell you other than get your hands on maybe a friend’s interface to borrow and compare 😅
Hi I just have Presonus AudioBox iOne & software StudioLive32. how can I record? Thanks
The mixer you have has a USB port on the back. I don’t have that mixer but we use a Behringer X32 at church and it has a similar design. You can create 32 input tracks within Studio One for your mixer.. most of the time you might just use channels one and two to record.. your mixer is much better off than your Audiobox but if you need the portability factor, the Audiobox will do just fine for mixing a song or just recording one channel at a time..
I’ll have to make some dedicated videos on mixers because it’s just a lot to cover over text.. hopefully that helps a little for now 😅
HI I did everything you did , but I don't hear anything during playback eventhough I can see that the record line shows a scrible on the line, , I hear my audio during record, just nothing during play back! help! I have my Personus connected to my Studio Live 32sx as a Interface
Hmmm… that’s going to be a tough one for me.. I don’t work at Presonus but to my knowledge, most boards being used as interfaces need to be switched from record mode to playback.. we use a begringer X32 at church and this switch is on the board’s settings.. check the playback device settings within studio one.. I’m curious how your outputs are being routed with your interface.. you need to locate where your Main LR output is being sent.. so if your headphones or monitors are plugged into your 32sx then you should be hearing playback.. a quick test would be to unplug your mixer just to see if the audio will play through your laptop speakers if possible.. that way you’ll know it has to be a setting on your board
Sorry to be long winded but I’m not as familiar with the 32sx as other interfaces 😅
Checkout this article for a more detailed setup! Hope it helps 🙏

@@heychrisgreen HI , thanks for the reply, I just got it , it was the channel I had the outputs on , ... and , the main outs were not set at a default channel on the board, I had to set up a default channel 37-38 stereo, for the outs on it and may that the Perm defaults for everytime, now it all works great!,
ITs just the learning curve that comes with the Presonus studio live seriesIII 32SX and the new Presonus studio Live 7, ... as well as I just left Logic Pro and Ableton, to learn Presonus 7 was my new Prem DAW since it is the one that works the best with the board I got. ya know.lol

thank you and well done!
Thank you!! 🙏
Helped for awhile then it got too deep too soon for me that is..but it is a great video and you know it inside and out!👍
Chris, thanks so much for your informative video! Your singing voice is also very pleasant and you play guitar beautifully. I just have one question. In setup, I'm not able to switch the sample rate to 48kHz as you suggested. Its default is 44.1 and there's no way to change it. Can you please help me with this? Thanks so much!
Thanks! For your sample rate are you using an external audio interface? Make sure the interface is plugged in, you might have to create a session before it will let you change the sample rate. If you’re using an audio interface let me know what kind because they also have their own software controlled sample rates to them 🤔 also windows or Mac?
Hi Cris. Thanks for your quick reply! I have a presonus audio box and I'm using a Mac with m3 chip. I tried reopening it but it still doesn't let me choose the sample rate. Grrr!
Very good! Make sure on your Mac settings under Sound that the Audiobox is listed as the recording and playback device.
When you create a new song in Studio One it will ask you to give your song a name, below that is the folder destination, and below that is usually the dropdown menu for changing the sample rate.. sometimes it does not let you change the sample rate on the Home Screen of studio one. Make sure your Audiobox is selected as the audio device.
Here’s a video I recently did on the Audiobox.. Hope it helps 🙏
Get Up and Running with Your Presonus USB Audio Interface: Step-by-Step Setup

Hi Chris. Thanks for the new video on audio interface. I noticed when watching it that your hhtz is also 44.1 like mine. Maybe it doesn't need to be changed to 48? Hmm. I can't get it to change anyway even though I do have my audio box set to both recording and playback. I love your videos and wanted to ask if you could make a video explaining all the knobs on the presonus audio interface. My mixer knob makes my voice inaudible when it turn it all the way the left. Not sure where I'm supposed to set all the knobs. Thanks again for all your work in helping untechy people learn how to record! @@heychrisgreen
Hi Chris. I found the area where I can change the kHz. to 48.0. I have to select new song first and its under "record and mix." thanks for you help! @@heychrisgreen
How much does your audio interface cost? Are the preamps any good? I have an audio interface but the preamps are not as good and there's loads of hissing even when I set the gain as low as possible.
I currently use the RME Babyface Pro FS. It is by far my favorite interface, very clean. In several videos I’m using the UAD Apollo. It’s pretty good, more useful for the UAD plugins. If you have a Presonus audio interface I wouldn’t purchase any other interface under that $500 point. A lot of the Scarlett, Audient, and Presonus interfaces have similar issues at those prices. The RME is about $700-$800 used. Hope that helps! Grab yourself a Cloud Lifter if you can give it 48v phantom power it will get you +10db of clean gain (only for dynamic mics)
man love your video♥
Hi my friend is the a pluggin that I can install or its a precet
Hi! The software is Presonus Studio One, the Artist and Professional versions come loaded with plugins ready to use. The plugins I used in this video are the EQ Room Reverb, and Limiter plugins that come standard with Presonus
Great video. I have an audiobox usb 96 with an AKG P420 microphone. It seems like Studio One won't recognize my mic. I have it plugged into slot 1 on the audiobox. Any thoughts? Thank you
Hi! Have you turned on Phantom Power? There’s a button on the front of your interface that will supply that mic with power (48v)
If that doesn’t work try a different cable and also go into your studio one settings to make sure under Audio Device you have the Audiobox 96 selected for input and device output
This saved me thank you so much dude 😭
You’re welcome! Glad it helped! 🙂
A very nice video. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks! 🙂
Chris how does one enable the Big Gain knob on the Input screen like you have?
Hmm.. I’m thinking you’re referring to the Mix Tool plugin? On any track there should be a plus icon ➕
Click the ➕ and look for the Presonus folder.. Mix Tool is a built in plugin with Studio One. The main use is the Gain knob as well as a phase invert button.
Hope that helps!
Chris i am talking about at 14:36 of this video you have the Input screen up where you can see the audio interface inputs and at the very top you have a Big Gain knob, all i see on mine is the small gain and the polarity. need to get the Gain knob that controls the audio interface gain.
Looking at "Prime" - it doesn't recognise my input keyboard (Yamaha Clavinova) Any advice appreciated !
I’ll have to check on the limitations of Prime again but I don’t believe they lock you out of using a keyboard like that.. check out this video if it is connected via usb or midi:

Also, I learned was the video is good now you got to write down the instructions step-by-step for your own personal use. I’ll learn that by going to personal seminars or business seminars and you have to write down the instructions step-by-step for set up miking, or record from record to mixing as well as steps for adding effects and also steps to mix down from example 24 down to two track and using the bus systems as well.
how do I make the metronome into my headphones only? It’s playing on my computer and the microphone is picking it up, But if I record without it the tempo is so off
Great question! There’s a complicated way to do this where you need to create a separate output in the Song Setup menu so that you can separate your headphones from your speakers.. I never do it this way because I just prefer to hear my headphones and monitors with the same mix..
The easy way is to mute your speakers (either with your audio interface or physically turn them off) while recording.. then when you’re done recording with headphones you would unmute or power on your speakers..
I’ve got a video on my channel all about the Click Track in Studio One, you can also check out Joe Gilder on TH-cam he has a whole mess of videos that will help you as well

my studio one still doesnt work. i cant here anything through my headphones and imnot even sure if my mic is working. it shows its sound but nothing comes out
Hmmm 🤔 What kind of Audio Interface are you using and what mic is it? I’ll try to help if I can! 😅
If its a condenser mike you need to select 48v option on mic input on your interface.
Sometimes called phantom I think.
is this good for Rappers?
Absolutely! I’m not a rapper by any means but there are other channels on TH-cam that feature that genre more often and they use S1. There are plenty of options for beats, virtual instruments and samples. I would check out their subscription for a month because you’ll have access to everything they make (cancel at any time)
Also Logic is great if you’re running a Mac. FL Studio also.
thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching
love it :) I use my studio one...but....my problems is reverbs :) thank you!
Try setting up an “FX Track” on your mix in Studio One and place your reverb there. If I had to guess, you might want to check out the Dry/Wet knob on the reverb plugin or the Mix knob. The more natural sounding reverbs will only be about 2.4 seconds in length, give them a short pre-delay, and make sure the mix knob is around 15%
@@heychrisgreen thank you:)
I’m not getting anything back in my headphones when trying to listen to what I recorded
Hmm 🤔 What audio interface are you using? Check your computer or system settings to be sure the Output is set to your interface.. if you have the Audiobox then make sure the Mix knob is turned toward Playback instead of Inputs
@ I am using audio box, even with the mixer set to playback and the audio sent to audio box on the lap top i still have nothing, the sound is still coming from the laptop speakers
Okay! Open up Studio One and select Studio One from the top menu at the very top left.. Select Studio One then Preferences.. in the Preferences menu select the tab for Audio Setup.. next to Playback Device you should see your Audiobox.. if it says MacbookPro Speakers then just click that and change it to your interface..
Same goes for your Recording Device.
I hope that’s the fix! 🙏
With your Audiobox, make sure it is plugged in before you open Studio One.. otherwise it will default to your speakers each time..
@@heychrisgreen that worked thank you so much!! Great videos it really helps a beginner singer songwriter trying to record
mine does not have "playback device" or "recording device" - just says "audio device"
good job!
Sample rate and latency is effected more by the processor and RAM on your system not your interface.

I have had Studio one for about 10 years and upgraded to each new version. SIx in not my friend....
I could be wrong but I detect a very slight southern accent in your voice.
You missed the editing step
4:47(
Thank you for this video! I have 6.5 and am using it for editing my voice overs but haven't used it for applying any effects to my voice. Do you happen to know if S1 has a feature for producing the effect heard with this guy's voice here?: th-cam.com/video/t3rdn1_0fWE/w-d-xo.html
I don’t have my headphones on but there’s definitely some reverb being added.. I would create an FX track (right click your voice over track then select “Add FX track”)
Then on your FX track load the Room Reverb plugin from Presonus.. you can shuffle through the presets til you find something you like… he’s got a lot of pre-delay and around a 6-8 second decay.. nothing crazy!
@@heychrisgreen THANK YOU!! I will try what you suggest. I figured S! probably had the options for this effect (and lots more) but didn't even know where to look. I really appreciate you taking the time for that explanatory answer!

Studioটিকটক কাজ করে না কিকবে
3 hours from start to walk away Studio ONE is ONE YOU SHOULD NOT RECOMMEND. And when I say.,. "Walk away", I ment walk far away from your studio before you start thowing your love gear against the wall. !!!!!
I spent 8 hours today staring at my laptop with guitar in hand trying to record . I managed to record most of what I wanted but then it all went wrong trying to drag and join bits up arggggh.it's so difficult.
I must say I do find it very fiddly - and will probably stay with Mixcraft - and Dorico. Thank God it was free !
@gordon9177 I think it's a great tool if you know how to work it. I haven't given up yet. I'm trying tidsy in fact, I understand it a bit better after trying bandlab. I'm going to persevere.
It must be like staring at frickin hieroglyphics to people who have never seen this before lol. I took a college course on protools and let me tell you - luckily you stumbled upon this DAW. StudioOne is so SO user friendly once you learn what does what. Create a song, pick a tempo, create a track, arm the track, hit record. Spend time learning the hot keys as well - makes everything easier.
I bought, set it up, got frustrated and stored away in the cupboard. I accept that im not too bright with this stuff but there must be a guitarists user friendly version.
Studio one, more like studio sh*t ! What a complete waste of time and money this thing is. After 4 hours I eventually threw the prosonus unit out the first floor window in frustration and deleted anything to do with studio one from my computer.
did not help me you cant see where you are clicking all because your face is in the way !!!!! Arist dose not have same for new song,
I hope the studio build you show has another DAW, PRESONUS SUCKS for beginners.
Yeah, I'm trying so hard to get help on learning as a brand new user, spent hours researching. Every video already assumes you know what you're doing, they're using keyboard shortcuts to do things and not explaining what they're doing and how. There's a few really good videos, but there's so much in the workspace, I want help from someone assuming I know absolutely nothing and show me how to do things. This is a bit frustrating.
Diddo..
Stay focused.. 🎉 negativity and frustration don't mix but thx for your time and input
Make sure that it is version 6.5 make sure everybody is on the same page. Make sure it’s the current version not the video likes. It was two or three years ago. It’s very important get updated. I don’t have the professional version but I will definitely spend $299 to make sure that I’m current on the all versions but for now make sure that you’re on the latest version 6.5.3 I believe
Studio One was my first DAW. After fl studio, to compare, s1 sometimes more intuitive. What DAW better for beginners?
well,,,, you totally ruined it by playing a totally different song while you were mixing. Very unhelpful!
Thank you, I have been forced to teach myself to record and it will be a great investment ! 2025 and beyond WINOT
