Abelard got me out of soooo many shitty situations its insane, sure he isnt the best damage dealer but he doesnt need to do a lot of damage if its a battle of attrition because he is a brickwall. For me he is S-tier just for tanking every boss from chapter 1-3, hopefully he keeps it going for chapter4 as well :3
Abe gets pretty insane with a chainsaw build as arch militant.
Won't go anywhere without my trusty seneschal.
@Kadotus who would introduce the rogue trader if Abe isn't there? Who would I sic on the enemies of humanity (people who mildly disrespect me)?
I set Abelard up so he would parry then automatically hit on every parry, so on some boss battles he just took them out on his own on one turn, hitting them, they retaliate, he parries, then hits back, continue till boss death.
Keep in mind Pasqal has some savage introductions of the rogue trader
Honestly feel you on Ulfar. I want him on the team 24/7 for flavor, but his damage is somehow worse than the little nun despite being a SPACE MARINE and all his checks are covered by others. TBH I sometimes feel like Owlcat should just let you full respec the late companions when you get them or somehow let us choose a cohesive build for them in dialogue (this is all because of Ulfar, my poor boy is just done dirty by the confused defaults and the lack of gear, though I gues Marazhai would become better by default if this happens)
I used to be the same camp with Yrliet but when I realize how to properly play bounty hunter she's actually pretty good with that build. Especially now that she can use actual items she's worth a spot imo. Also Jae is far superior to Pasqal in everywhere at end game. Her skill bonuses are insane when you max all reps. I'm surprised you have Idira rated so high. Sure she can do some crazy PR stacking, but if you're doing grim darkness, the perils and chance to explode into demons isn't worth the risk.
So I did this encounter with every build and even heretic 5 idira didn't explode once. Maybe the times she does just stands out? The thing is even if you go sniper idira still has access to better ones than Yrliet. 1.3 added some new beefy ones.
Operative is already low impact with no decent origin or world without being able to use the human snipers. I just don't see any reason to use yrliet. Anyone else can pick up xenos or awareness. There is light armour that gets bonuses from awareness and medium armour from xenos which yrliet cant use. Then pasqal can generate infinite AP as a bounty hunter with right items and talents and I'd still rather risk it with idira. Live dangerously 😎
Honestly I'd rather just not use an operative than ever use yrliet. Maybe put jae in that slot or kibellah or even ulfar lol
@@Revan619 Honestly I agree. They need to bring Operative back to its former greatness. Bring down bladedancer and exec a lil bit, and bring back Operative.
@remortisgaming I'm hoping they add something to spice up operatives then give marazhai and yrliet a homeworld.
Maybe once they buff the other origins then look to tweaking overturned classes. Rather buffs before nerfs lest they do what launch helldivers did 🥲
Indira was my main buffer for warior last boss did zero dmg to my main on daring
Since you mentioned that Ulfar would be great if he started as a warrior, I might as well ask if you’d be willing to make a build for him starting as warrior, since players with Toybox can fully adjust companion builds. Though, I know that’d be a lot of work for an inaccessible build for most players.
Yes pleasssseeeee
Thanks for keeping pumping the contents
Seems like executioner and blade dances would be two main candidates for patch tuning, they too good rn 🙂
So, psychic abilities are pretty strong. Although I'm still baffled that the Space Marine isn't the best at something non-psyker oriented.
Same. He is just a mess like I covered. Talents for area, talents for burst, origin for melee but a soldier with no talents to support melee and no gear to support range or area. I just hope the devs have a look at it
@@Revan619 from the tidbits about the gear, it sounds like that's the main way that Ulfar is supposed to be balanced out. But then again, the most powerful companions have the recurring characteristic of being met in a low enough level to stack passive and buffing abilities enough to actually build around.
Be cool if he could be the best at both melee and range, but you had to choose which one. So you can choose based on your choices or simply what character you like the most. And cover for that specialist's shortcomings. Given how your tier list basically has both best ranged and melee be companions you meet in act 1.
@@alzef1375 It is mostly due to those act 1 companions having the most supporting gear. Almost all gear to support melee is universal.
The supporting items for range is Helm, gloves and capes. Which Astartes, Aeldari and Drukhari companions cant use.
It really doesnt help act 2 and 3 companions have most of their builds locked. The developers really should put in an auto level feature if they dont want us to change stuff.
Ulfar just needs some better ranged support gear to be usable because he doesnt have any and most of his decent weapons are on the final boss world of act 4 or start of act 5 when there is no content left to do :|
It would be really cool I think if you could give us builds for the weak characters taking advantage of Toybox to reset the companion to level 1 to get rid of the horrible skill choices.
This game still confuses me in that you can break it so hard that, as you said, certain characters can do millions upon millions of damage. Which makes other characters terrible by comparison, and yet I went through the entire game with Ulfar (before he was fixed, mind you) just fine. There was challenges sure, but at the same time i don't *need* to do millions of damage and one shot literally anything in the game.
Luckily I don't consider any companions unusable. It is just if they make your experience easier or harder. Both Argenta and Ulfar are going to clear the encounter on unfair. Argenta is likely to do it easily in one turn. Ulfar maybe with a bit of sweating in 1 or 2.
It all boils down to how willing are you to go back to the ship to remove injuries and traumas before you can make trauma kits 😄
If she doesn't explode and summons a Bloodletter every bloody fight, Idira would've been top tier for me imo. You can build her as the team buff or zap people across the map which is awesome but geez my luck with her so far have been terrible lol.
The Allfather and Leman Russ does not approve this tierlist.
Blame the tech priest whom won't issue Ulfar with gear
Let's go!!!
I beat the game twice, not on max diff, the one before it. My strat is always wait for cassia's turn....win.
I got literally no idea what 90% of all other characters even do and even less what you explained and showed here lol.
MC extra turns cassia... win
havent used her in a while but assassin yrelit was pretty good back in the day loil
Think that was before they heavily nerfed ranged lethality and killing edge
Yeah, before the nerf 😢
I never take Cassia on my team. i refuse on Lore principle, period. No sane Lord Captain will let their ONLY Navigator off the ship. I dont care if she is the most powerful person on board. She stays on the ship.
Love this :) I'm going to follow your example on my 2nd run
@@minkernator I mean the whole reason you go for her in act 1 in the first place, is that you are stuck on that system without a navigator. and they are the rarest mutant in the whole empire. the chances to end up in a system with available navigators like in the game... lets say, you winning a few millions tomorrow in the lottery would be more likely.
If you would have a few more, you would still be considered slightly insane by other captains in the universe, but at least you would not get stranded in the system.
I think I must be playing the game wrong
Any advice for toybox users on ulfar? I don’t mind remaking him personally. You mentioned a respec to warrior, is that all??
Warrior is the way to go. He is death world so it works very well. You can still do arch militant swapping between melee and pistol. There are lots of melee trinkets he can use and necklaces.
@@Revan619 Thank you for the advice! i had been bouncing around trying to find builds to follow and i appreciate the google sheet and videos. Your information has made this game more understandable and fun! Cheers!!
yeah, tried Ulfar back at release... he was lackluster. far worse at melee than Abelard or Heinrix, far worse at range than Argenta. just didn't see the point.
tried him again yesterday, several major patches later and, same. still doesn't really serve a purpose. I should probably just toybox respec him for this run, because why not. but Owlcat really needs to fix his build (or just let you full-respec in game, because that's been a weird and unwelcome restriction in all of their games). it's a truly bizarre oversight. if they're worried about the _literal demigod super-soldier_ being too good (never mind that by the time you get him, most well-built characters are complete killing machines already) then they just shouldn't have put him in to begin with.
anyway, found your channel just as I got back into my second run of the game a couple weeks ago, and it's been really helpful. the videos and the spreadsheet are excellent resources. I didn't find daring especially difficult after the very early game last year, with a pretty dull-if-reasonably-effective sanctic officer. but that pyro bladedancer is a whole different level. hard has been a complete (if extremely fun) joke, have to move to unfair next time.
I saw you have the livestreams of the grim darkness challenge up, and those were a fun watch. do you have any intentions of posting more longform playthroughs in the future? I'd love to see an unfair run, though I understand it's probably quite a time commitment. thanks!
Not happy with the operative slander here!
😂
