I have been wanting to try feathers for awhile for now but have been afraid. All my practicing didn't seem to do any good. Once I discovered this series I took a deep breath and jumped in and I'M DOING IT!! They may not be as beautiful as Angela's but I'm actually doing it. I will now be doing lots of feathers as I get the hang of this. Thank you Angela for your wonderful videos.

As a long time FMQ Challenge participant, I have heard you say this many times but somehow, after watching this video, I have finally seen why my feathers, which I think are pretty good, never look quite right. That echoed spine really does make the feather look so much better! Don't know why I missed this before but grateful to you for repeating and repeating it so that I, and others like me, could FINALLY get the message!!!

Amazing quilting tips, as usual! I learned how to make beautiful feathers from you and they're one of my favorite free-motion designs.

Great tips! Thank you! I find that by learning a tip here and there my FMQ improve steadily over time and practice.

I finally quilted my first feathers this spring on a quilt for a three y/o. I figured she wouldn’t complain too much. I told her mom that if she complained about it when she grew up, have her track me down. By then I might have figured it out and I’ll make her another one. 😂 Tbh, I was quite proud of them. I drew them out with chalk beforehand so they would come out somewhat decently. It turned out to be a good strategy. Thank you for all your help in learning to do them. I couldn’t have done it without your Craftsy “feathers” class and these types of videos.

Thanks Angela for this video! I feel most comfortable making the custom or ‘bump back’ feathers. But when I finish the last loop at the top I don’t know where to “go” next. Any tips?

I think I’ll be marking the quilt first, for sure. I sort of lose my way with the machine foot I’m using right now. It blocks part of the view going backwards or up the spine. Still waiting on parts for my other trusty machine.

I always quilt with my ruler foot after getting out of the ditch and have no problems with seams but mine does have a spring on it

Oh boy...this is going to be very hard...I just tried a bunch of feathers and never managed to create "feathers",,..they looked like squashed grapes. my problem is the spacing on the stem from the start of the feather and the finish of the feather...after ONE good one, mine all become perpendicular to the stem...

I have an oblong, clear, free motion foot and I cannot get 'equal' distances when 'experimenting'; it was recommended that I not use the type of foot you are using because it will not move over seams. Yet, in most of the quilting I am trying to do, I don't know that I would be crossing seams. I just like the idea of the thickness and round feature of the 'ruler' foot. Please lend your thoughts. Thanks!

The ruler foot should be adjustable so that it clears seams, but is not so high that the fabric bounces. It’s the only foot it use for FMQ. Thanks to Angela’s instructions l can do a lot of things I never dreamed possible on my regular machine.

@@sherrybrockman9588 Thank you so very much. I ended up buying a ruler foot today and am practicing with it. And, it works! Not good yet, but I've figured out how to adjust so the foot 'glides' on the fabric. Many thanks!

Thank you so much! I think that I am going to add about 24 inches to the side of my backing fabric so that I can build a sandwich to the side of my panel. That way, I can practice a bit before I actually get to the panel. Hopefully, that will give me a bit of warm up before I attempt it for real on the panel.
