    To anyone wanting to try this, make a few changes. #1 do it every other day. #2 every 4 days add weight. Dumbells, hold books, hold milk jugs etc…. Keep upping the weight every 4 days. Nothing insane, but maybe 2-5lbs every 4 days. #3 Eat an extra 200 calories of protein. Nothing insane, just a wee bit more protein to aid in muscle building. #4 keep in mind that calves are one of the hardest muscles to increase their size. Many bodybuilders have calf implants or tiny calves. I used to do calf raises as a kid and would grab the headboard of the lower bunk of my Brothers solid wood ( real wood, not wood shavings compressed into a woodlike substance ) and would lift it up and down with calf raises. No clue why I used to do this as I was not a bodybuilder but did run track.
    My calves are kinda great, guess years of doing this for no reason other than it freaked my brothers out paid off.

    um, you can gain a good bit of muscle in 30 days. But not the way you did it. You did very high reps which builds endurance. To add muscle mass you need to add weight and be unable to continue the set in the 8-12 rep range. Also you were super inadequate on rest days. You should have at least 24hrs between workouts, maybe more. working out tears the muscle fibers. You get stronger and grown muscle when it recovers, not when you are working it. Inadequate recovery means you are just continually breaking down over and over and not allowing it build and get stronger.
    Not hating. That was a lot of hard work and dedication and was probably a great stress reliever with the new little one. But you could have probably made a lot more progress with more rest and reps in the right ranges if you wanted to add some muscle. All you really did was toughen what was already there with those super high rep sets. and did not build much because you kept tearing it apart.

    Small tip that's gonna make a big difference: find an elevation. One of the most important components to calf growth is the stretch under tension, you can't get that on a flat surface. Try it out, on an elevation do single-leg calf raises, pause at the top, and slowly go down under the parallel until you feel the stretch, pause for 2 seconds. Repeat.

    • @Lunogic
      @Lunogic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    • @szpoti
      @szpoti 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Absolutely agreed. Go for negatives. On the flat surface, what you have been exercising was the Achilles mainly, not the calves. But kudos for persistence - don't lose it!

    • @Vladimyrful
      @Vladimyrful 3 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      @@Lunogic No no, so basically you find a stair step (or something similar), and stand on it with only the ball of your foot (your heel isn't touching anything) and then go all the way up, hold 1 second, and then down as far as you can (without the ball of your foot lifting from the stair step), feeling the stretch, holding for 2 seconds.

    As a cross country runner, I too often do calf raises. It's not to get more muscle per say, but rather like you said, to get "stronger". By doing high rep and low weight you build more lean muscle. Not bulking up, but better for actual use, like walking running etc. Basically, "you've got it where it counts". Good job!

As of late, I've been really trying to workout more and trying to strengthen the weaker side of my body. Y'all gotta correct me if I'm wrong, don't want misinformation spreading around.
    I think it's the crazy number of reps that made them lean rather than bulky. It's why the legs of marathon runners are more skinny than sprinters. What you have now are legs made for endurance (lean lasting machines) rather than bursts of power (giant springs).
    For bulk, you'd have to do less reps and with more strain, e.g. weights.

      Reason fat people often have big calves is because 1) they carry around a lot of weight everytime they walk and 2) they are fat so fat is stored in their calves as well. People that have good or even decent calf genetic will end up having good to decent calves if they lose the weight to a respectable number. If they do not have good genetics for them they will have chicken legs because calves are highly genetic

    Tips for bigger calves:
    1- exercise every other day. You should give your muscles at least 48h rest time to recover.
    2 - Keep doing from 6 to 15 repetitions, 3 to 4 sets and 1 minute rest (max) between sets ( that's where hypertrophy works better)
    3 - 15+ reps would be more focused in resistence. Instead of adding more reps you should add more weight once you find easy to reach 15 reps. Try doing both legs, one leg, both legs while holding weights, one leg + weights. If you don't have dumbbells use a backpack full of books.

    If you decide to do this, start off small at first because I jumped straight into it and did 200 calf raises yesterday and I woke up and I can’t even walk🤣😭
