If you already know what they sound like, you can infer that this sounded GIGANTIC live. The video is not a great representation (bass comes through especially poorly on lower quality recordings), but is still appreciated.
Making music isn't about making money it's about being creative and doing what you love. These guys love playing music, that's why they got back together to tear shit up. And you don't need a band, this is 2 people making all this noise. 2 guys tearing up that stage. I'm letting you know that your judgement of music is clouded. This is a great live band and you need to realize that. They don't need a Kiss pyro show or lasers and smoke. It's a bass and a drum kit. Great band.
Seen them at Sonic Boom one year around that time and made my year. The experience & sound doesn't translate well to the representation in this vid. I'll take DFA any time, anywhere I can get them
This band had a great visual aesthetic. I can definitely see why they did especially well aside from how heavy and groovy the music is. They look like rockstars, they move like rockstars, they talk like rockstars. In my opinion it's more than a shame that they didn't keep their momentum. I feel like time away from this project to focus on their own work in conjunction with the pressure of the comeback and the ego boost the film gave them is making them go for a more modern marketable sound instead of sticking to their guns, the punchline ultimately being that their guns are what gave them their shot. Don't get me wrong, physical world is aight, but the intention is clear based of the lead singles. A piece of the puzzle is trying to change dfa to something that it shouldn't have to be. They don't have to be a pop group or a dance group, they can be a great heavy rock band.
After watching them play train wreck live on letterman when they put on TH-cam. I saw this video in the recommended. I thought they were great but after watching this one I became a hardcore fan! DFA1979 FOREVER!!!
Recently there were new live songs posted. JFK;s twitter stated however that all these videos are to be removed and that fans shouldn't spoil what is to come. You may still be able to find them. The album still has no drop date set. Hopefully soon!
if people wanted perfection they would just listen to de original recording, but no, we want this amazing energy these guys have onstage, i can see how boring it would be both playing worried trying to keep every thing perfect, that would suck! this band is energy, and they are doing this very well onstage!
Yeeeeeeesssss... i know this.base rift was taken from some 80s like rod stewart song ir whatever... but... its like they held it hostage and DFA rescued it in a barrage of bullets blood and glory...
what do they do wrong ? nothing..nothing at all - what makes the live performance sound different than what you hear on the studio recorded track ?? well - thats what is great about them - every time i've heard them play live, its been different than the last - some i love, some i like, some i dont, but ALL, have the same feel - and are Death From Above 1979 - Playing with their own material - anyone can record/produce an album - but to play it (not regurgitate it) - that is true tallent
@KillSeattleLewis Because of the way JFK gets his sound, you can only make it so loud without the PA's clipping/cutting/humming/...blowing up. His low end frequencies are cranked on the amp's eq so HIS speakers clip/cut/hum/break up. Any louder on the PA and it's just going to sound like mud. But I agree, at least turn down the drums if you can't amplify his sound. watch?v=FWFCl2oHnaI&t=6s That is what his bass sounds like when it is over amplified by the PA. Notice the popping and un-clarity :)
Their new stuff is okay but god, do I ever miss the primitive ooga booga shit with no samplers, just that overwhelmingly amazing bass rig, the synth, a drumkit and a voice. Limitations good. It kind of saddens me that they seem to see this era of the band as a failure to reach their ambitions.
Have you ever seen a live concert? If you can't feel that high energy for Romantic Rights, that's your problem. I'm not a gay hipster I just work for a radio station and love music more than you. This band live is nuts, if you watched them in a garage it would be the greatest show on earth.
they speed up the song for some moments, and slow it down. they suck at playing but that's the reason why beer is sold in a gig: for you not to notice!
The only thing that will really make you feel better is admitting to yourself that they suck live, and that there is room in this world for a gay hipster. You can be yourself, it's okay :D
Well if you're anything it's NOT a musician - because any creative person knows that music is subjective. Poor live performance, however, is not. And I don't have a band - there's no money in music anymore.
for anyone hating on the live sound, you have to imagine youre actually there. this is fucking impressive as shit.
+jackoo666 not sure you're convincing them buddy
Seconded. Seen them live twice, greatest death an eardrum can die.
If you already know what they sound like, you can infer that this sounded GIGANTIC live. The video is not a great representation (bass comes through especially poorly on lower quality recordings), but is still appreciated.
I think it sounds fucking awesome, this is exactly how these songs should sound live
@@tracypanavia4634 f*ck off... this is everything
This band, the mars Volta and the white stripes are probably the best rock music to come out since the turn of the century
What about Qotsa & Arctic Monkeys?
@@ritualsofthedarksun w
No lol
Royal Blood ☝️
@@ritualsofthedarksunQotsa started in the 90s

Oh yeah! 2005! Showing belt buckles, wearing tight t-shirts and Puma shoes.

HowlinAdamJames it just is death from above, no lights, no glamour, but death from above. Perfect
Well said.
Thrut!
of course
DFA79 belongs into small, dark, sweaty clubs - not some summer festival at 2 pm
Seen them at Sonic Boom one year around that time and made my year. The experience & sound doesn't translate well to the representation in this vid.
I'll take DFA any time, anywhere I can get them
That transition is so great.
They for sure have one of the best live shows ever. Saw them a few weeks ago and it was absolutely brutal but beautiful haha
I was there. One of the best gigs of my entire life.
Brilliant stuff. Great to see the guys young, dumb & free from tattoos. Best. Band. Ever.
coinslot1953 2017- full of tattoos.
Royal Blood? nahhh, DFA1979!
3LETRIC Is one allowed to enjoy both?

Idk how Kdays got them to perform . This band rocks . July 25th, 2024 in Edmonton during Klondike Days festivities .
I had no idea Jesse played keys on the outro, I always assumed it was his bass
me too haha
Sam Bullock same
Sam Bullock tbh we'll never know what he used in the studio version because they sound so similar hah
boyman its a synth, doesn’t sound like a bass and there’s notes so high that a bass can’t play them.
Jhon Dwyer, Nice!
The fucking energy coming from these guys is unreal

Kentucky Clawson this comment is spot on. what do you think of Outrage! is now?

So glad I got to see these guys twice. Awesome

Is that still happening? It's nearly summer and they've not said a word :(
3:21 : Proof that JFK is the Tom Morello of bass.
True
And now we're back to the original point that we agree the band is good. Lol.
Hey! No me vengan con Royal Blood ahora! Jaja! DFA está de hace mucho antes jajaja!
DFA SIEMPRE MI AMIGO! !!

Does anyone know what synth he's using here?
@respiri2 Hold on. This isnt resent is it? Cause they have been broken up a while now. Sorry if it's a stupid question. That reply just confused me.
@Johnnypt13 It has been done so many times. Most known artist to do it is Lemmy from Motörhead. It's not really that original. Cool anyways though.
where did they anounced that? cant find anything :/
@idcdammit its a song called romantics rights :O
what part in toronto?

Have you ever seen a live concert? If you can't feel that high energy for Romantic Rights, that's your problem. I'm not a gay hipster I just work for a radio station and love music more than you. This band live is nuts, if you watched them in a garage it would be the greatest show on earth.
