@@NeostormXLMAX there’s a great rig video on TH-cam somewhere where he explains a bit of it. A lot of his sound is just his amps turned all the way up haha
It's mainly just great song writing, but if you watch the rig run down, "sonically" it explains a lot (like using a DI just for for the low end and keeping that clean, keeping the actual amps in the mid range, plus what Ramon W said).
Whoever filmed and edited this video is a damn genius. Probably one of the best live videos I have ever seen. Always coming back to watch it another time.
@@michaelbarnett8878 yeah I think any nasty distortion can get close though I played a bass through my guitar pedal board with a pro co rat and it did a good job it’s probably pretty hard to get one of those peaveys he’s got
I could see the wrinkles in my pants changing shape the first time I saw them and I was standing still, sober and indoors. The volume was unbelievable.
sounds like garbage tho lol i saw them live twice and both times the mix was so fucking horrendous i couldn't even make out what song they were playing.
Please have DFA on again, this is so goooood. Btw it sounds cool when there is a room mic bleed, makes it sound big and gives it a sort of effect that makes you feel like your physically there watching the epic monstrosity.
he said in an interview that he is colorblind and that makes him have a hard time picking a shirt and that he likes the fabrics of that brand(can´t remember brand)
Probably just the usual stage outfit thing, having a certain thing that was deliberately chosen. That's pretty common and even many bands' outfits that don't look like they are actively selected stage outfits totally are.
this is funny. I thought that this was strombo's house as I used to walk past it all the time but never knew. The only thing that gave it away was once he was out front trying to start an old CB 750 as I was walking by.
I see in 2004 DFA 1979 in London, small bar, it was best band I ever seen... I'm glad to know is come back to show "what's the rock" many people compare with royal blood but is wrong! The spirits of fda 79 was incredible.
These concerts take me back to being a kid at the little punk shows and just getting my face melted by the decibels and loving every second of watching these bands do their thing. Good times
I see more people commenting about Royal Blood on DFA videos than the contrary. That really shows which people care and who doesn't. Btw, in a time where good rock and roll is rare, we should just enjoy both band existence.
@@romainj4383 yeah I feel like it's totally okay to get inspiration from certain sounds and copy them, as long as you change certain stuff and add your own flair to it. That pretty much how new sounds and new genres get created, right? Royal blood totally bring their own sound to it.
Stop comparing Royal blood to them you blithering bafoon. Literally the only similarity is that they are a two piece(drums and bass) apart from that, they are wildly different. God, how can people even listen to music when they can’t even hear the difference between two of the greatest rock bands of the modern era.. *sigh*
This is so good is spit Molson Ice on my monitor. Great audio mix Strombo. I like how DFA has grown in to a tame, cool, suavely, version of their of their punk rock self. More dance less slam.
35:40 and after blows the fucking doors off! Because of DFA some of my neighbours have issues with me. I heard that Paul S. had the same issue when he let them practice in his backyard studio.... personally... I can't get enough of it!
REALLY, REALLY Stellar performance of Death From Above on the House of Strombo. For those who do not know the background of this series it's George 's basement I'm assuming somewhere in Toronto, Canada. Favourite tunes DFA played were Holy books and Romantic rights in the set. Great cameo from Eliza from the all chick group The Beaches @ the near end of Romantic Rights. Man I love this series I'll be watching much more of this stuff all night
Amazing band George, a real luxury to host them and launch it to the world... new fan here in Chile thanks to you. This clip is epic, on my list play it once in a while.
Strombo! Just found this channel, I've missed watching you on stuff. Saw DFA open for Billy Talent the same day I saw both live for the first time. Thanks for the nostalgia feels. It's now on my bucket list to come see your house for one of these. Keep doing the thing, love it!
By God. The grit on that bass.
Solid State amps!
YESbabeh!!!!!!!
How is he able to get this sound on the bass?
@@NeostormXLMAX there’s a great rig video on TH-cam somewhere where he explains a bit of it. A lot of his sound is just his amps turned all the way up haha

The rig rundown
They've been doing this a decade before Royal Blood so I don't wanna hear any comparisons from you people.
Jacob Daniel Thank you
They have a different vibe anyways
Jacob Daniel they're two different bands with very different sounds. Fuck anyone who says ones a copy of the other
Honestly I see no relation other than the duo aspect of the two bands. I relate RB more with Queens of the Stone Age than anyone else.
Jamie Lawson ikr?? Only similarities are totally superficial which are only 2 members, a drummer and a bassist
I watch this twice a month, minimum, from here til infinity
I’m glad I’m not alone, brother.
I like to listen to study
I accidentally hit like on 69..70. Had to take it back sorry friend
Same same
I average about the same. Crankin' it through some 12s and shakin' the windows right now.
This helter-skelter cover was fire
It’s insane that they get such a full sound out of a two piece. This was filmed and edited so well too
Thanks to two very loud amplifiers and a mic'd up kit.
It's mainly just great song writing, but if you watch the rig run down, "sonically" it explains a lot (like using a DI just for for the low end and keeping that clean, keeping the actual amps in the mid range, plus what Ramon W said).
Only the 4 bassist cords and the drums... They give you so much energy with this!
They have the two most crucial instruments in a rock band. The two instruments that make rock music rock HARD
Local H has the same vibe and is a 2 piece. Maybe 2 piece bands are the superior band
Whoever filmed and edited this video is a damn genius. Probably one of the best live videos I have ever seen. Always coming back to watch it another time.
Insane band
His bass tells such a story with that tone
His singing style meshes so perfectly with it.
magic.
The best live video from DFA, so far.
there is a legendary show in amsterdam from 2005, it should still be up on here. But I agree, this is amazing!
And so many more great performances to come :)
@@arrowhead1867 the one at the bronson centre in Ottawa was amazing. Best show I've ever seen. idk if it's on yt tho
I agree. I was really happy to see it
I agree :)
The audio mix on the recording is outstanding, especially for a live show so brazenly loud & noisy.
1:25 Nomad
6:19 Going Steady
9:46 Little Girl
17:51 White Is Red
24:02 Holy Books

White is red was fire
12:42 Sebastian's scream was actually super awesome
First time listening to DFA
This is amazing
Welcome welcome!!
The combination of the timing and camera work @ 13:53 is insane and sooo good
The t-shirt co-ordination, too... Uncanny.
True art.
and the girl is amazing
I've just discovered this live set three days ago. This is probably my 20th listen.
Fuck. DFA, man. So good.
Bandooon
Death From Above 1979 covering the Beatles is not something I thought would work, but they pulled it off.
That’s one of the heaviest Beatles songs, way ahead of its time, so it makes sense for an alternative rock band to play that classic. Awesome tune
That was brutally good.
Such a signature sound, unmistakably DFA. Drum and bass at it's BEST!
That Dan Armstrong bass really helps it
This is hands down the best thing on TH-cam
that snare drum sounds like a cartoon smack in the face.
I'd like to get something similar from mine
@@rams81rule Go get the "Big Fat Snare Drum" topper. Tune the bottom head medium and the top head super tight, then put the topper on. Bingo.
sick editing on romantic rights. job guys!
Actual Ghost p
The bassist looks like an emo kratos.
This is the weirdest comparison I've ever seen and what's weirder is I kinda see it lmao
Why do I keep coming back here ! It’s simply just that good this live ❤
That performance of Romantic Rights was sick!!!
Tom B1rks I know, it was actually good, not dissing them, it's just usually I can't bear them live but that was excellent
DFA1979 was high school 04-08 for me. Great memories
So much energy, so much sound. And yet, it's from a duo. Incredible.
Making me wanna buy a bass.
And like 20.pedals
@@Sporacle a good octave, a fuzz, and an Ampeg are really all that's needed. Since this comment I now own a bass lol

He uses an old Peavey head. I think it's called a showman. His Rig Rundown is sick if you're into gear. Pretty sure it's still on TH-cam. Best.
So glad you guys have a recording of this!
Dude kills it on bass!
Dr. Disrespect killing the drums
Anyone with a mustache is dr. Disrespect? Great joke!
this is the grooviest band of all time, change my mind
Funkadelic? Dfa’s my favourite
Primus
The floozies.
The loudest band I’ve ever seen live. My ears were ringing for days.

I know same. Mind was blown for a week
Another band super loud is Big Sugar.
Tinnitus never felt so good

Oh daaayyum!! That Helter Skelter cover was SICK!!
Thank you! To everyone involved... thank you!
Has anyone else noticed Jesse pretty much wears that same shirt every show? Do you think he has multiple? Or is it the same one every time?
I've heard there are multiple Jesse's. They grew them in a lab, then dressed them all the same and released them into the wild.
Only Smello'vision can tell...

DFA 1979 set the bar for crunch-rock back in the 00s. Royal Blood emulated their sound. Two different sounds, similar genre.
