Happy New Year! I got a front row seat for some good huge fireworks even though Arizona only allows the wimpy sparklers, shower fountains that don’t go higher ten feet and smoke bombs. My 2nd floor apartment balcony faces a huge resort that has a permit for the big fireworks

Been watching your videos for a few years. As a life time bass fisherman I respect you for being a teacher of the basics and showing how fishing really is. A+ for you teaching etiquette (throw away your trash, leave your spot better then you found it, respect the fish) . Keep up the great work!!

FYI also when spooling a baitcaster it is important to have the line winder in the absolute middle and the line tied also in the middle. On most higher quality baitcasters there is a groove in the middle of the spool. This will almost always assure that you have an even wind every time, no need for using your thumb to balance an unbalanced spool wind. Thanks for doing your vids, keep up the great work.

Great educational video Alex!! Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks with us. I will remember that a baitcaster has something through the hole and a spinning reel is label down, which is how I learned how to do it. Thank you for always keeping it realistic Alex... This is the first video I've watched in 2020, Happy New Year Dewders!!!! I have a 7-8" 4"x4" block of wood I drilled a screw into the end to despool line. Just tape the tag end to the middle of a flat side, put the screw into a power drill and run it. The line slips right off afterwards, works for all types of line. Cheers!

In Anchorage Alaska they put out pvc pipe line disposal tubes along Ship Creek to keep the line out of the river and off the ground. That being said its too bad the a-holes who throw it on the ground here in the south aren't the ones getting tangled in it and having a bad day.On the bright side though, I just bought a new reel for trout fishing so this video is right on time.

Happy New Year, Alex! I have put line on many a spinning reel, most likely all in the wrong way but I somehow managed. Now that I am a subscriber on Realistic Fishing, I can watch somebody do it who knows how. Your way is so much better and simpler than some of the other methods I've seen and doesn't require any fancy devices.

Thats awesome that you found a combo for 10 bucks!
This past weekend I did my own 25$ fishing challenge for the first time via a giftcard given to me. I was lucky enough to find a combo on clearance for 14.99 with the original price of 69.99 so now i can finally fish with 2 rods. Always looking for the deals and trying to never pay full price for fishing supplies. Thanks for the spooling tips and btw i tried out that Omniflex line and im saving about 12$ a spool and getting more line as well!
Thanks again for another great video Alex!

I know it’s random but does anyone else just love when you go to spool a reel and you not sure how much line is on a spool but when you’re done you have the perfect amount on the spool to fill the reel all the way as when you cut it you have completely spooked the reel all the way😁

I have tried all kinds of ways to take the line off a spool. However, I have fallen back on your method. It's even better than using a spike and an electric drill. I have used your method for respooling for most of my life. However, last year I spent about $9.95 for tool that clamps to the rod and holds the spool while replacing the line on a baitcaster. The thing is quite ingenious in that it fits a large number of rods and a large number of different widths of line spools. Once one gets old and starts losing coordination, this little tool works extremely well. It's mostly plastic with a single steel spring. 🤯🤪🎣😉 I got it on Amazon.

Then the hot water is for after you put your line on the reel. Run it under hot water if it's monofilament as hot water will change the line memory from the size of circle spool it sits on to the circle size of the spools reel size.

I could drink cheap beer and talk fishing all day homie. Good tips for sure. It isn't as simple as people like to think. If you put the line on a spinning combo backwards and don't flip it, half of your line will just shoot right off as soon as you open your bail. Awesome instructional vid man.

New Year, New Line! Yay! I will throw in I'm a believer in buying nice mid-premium line. For the price of a couple BOGO clearance lures I can have all but the fanciest stuff. I won't swear it makes a big difference, (and you seem to do fine,) but I find it helps my confidence with finicky fish.

I also decided to go fishing today (hoping to catch “the last fish of the year) and got the backlash from hell in one of my casting reels (I wanted to see how far I could cast if I turned all the brakes off...so dumb) so I’ve got to fix that one too.

Good tip for spooling line. Good ole Omniflex. Your vids sure prove it’s a great budget line. I laugh when I see other TH-camrs snapping off Bass with their savage hooksets and expensive fluorocarbon lines. Mono is good enough for your grandpappy, so it’s good enough for me. I do use a bit more expensive stuff, Sufix ProMix or Siege are my favorites. I also use Zebco Cajun gator green and clear blue bayou I get for $3 a spool at Ollie’s

What I do when I put line on a bait caster is, I put a small piece of bamboo through the middle of the spool, and jam the bamboo piece into a cardboard box. Also to reduce line building up on one side of the spool, I tilt the reel slowly right and left to even it out, while reeling the line onto the spool. If one side of the spool isn't getting enough line, the tilting will force the line to spool onto that side It seems. Also I catch panfish all the time on BFS(UL) baitcasters.
