Completely agree with you about The Familiar. I did finish it because I was hoping it would be more fantastical or I would become more attached to the characters, but nope. Thanks for sharing these.

This makes me feel much better about the fact I didn’t force myself to power through it.

Great job! It’s hard to talk about books when it disappointing.
I love reading The Princess Bride, but I understand why seeing the movie first would kind of ruin it. One of the few movies that did better than the book.
My most disappointing book was Dead Dead Girls by Nekesa Aria. The cover had me excited, the killer was a disappointment. Very easy to predict.

      Thank you. 😊
I have not heard of Dead Dead Girls before. Reading the synopsis it does sound like it should be a great read, but it’s a shame it was easy to predict.

My most disappointing books of 2024 are Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer, Normal People by Sally Rooney, Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu, and The Paleontogist by Luke Dumas

I have not read any of these but I do have Carmilla and The Palaeontologist on my radar. Fingers crossed I enjoy them more than you did, but I have heard mixed reviews about both.

I'm with you on A Natural History of Dragons, it was ok, but didn't live up to the hype I kept seeing from other BookTubers.

I am happy to hear there is at least one other person who thinks it was just ok. 😁 I really did want to love it.

Too bad about the Familiar. I still gotta read 9th House and Hellbent! The Princess Bride as a novel has a different kind of tone/humor than the movie does IMO. I enjoyed the book but still prefer the movie.

The Princess Bride movie just has such a fantastic cast. And the tone is definitely different.

OMG Nghi Vo's "The Brides of High Hill," I don't even have to check my spreadsheet - that book devastated me and it was entirely down to expectations. Book 5 in a series I've loved all along (4-5 stars for every installment) and I landed on a 2.5 star for this one. Had it been first, I wouldn't have continued the series.

I remember you talking about that one in a video. 2.5 stars to the 5th book in a 4-5 star series is quite possibly the definition of a disappointing read!
