bro I can't thank you enough, I've been trying to emulate gba on my new Rog ally x and I couldn't figure out why the built in controller wasn't registering in MGBA. Turns out I needed to set control mode to gamepad in the control centre. Had no idea and out of sheer luck your 2 second clip helped me haha
Just got an Ally X the other day. This is an excellent tutorial, along with the other Ally videos of yours I have watched. The “Internet” “Archive” part had me cracking up 😄. Like and subbed.

Great video, super helpful! One tip - if you have a PC or laptop with a MicroSD card reader, I personally found managing the files there instead of on the smaller screen of the Ally X much easier.
@PeteTalksTech No problem 😊 I just hit the sub.. oh by the way on the off chance have you got a video on how to configure the rog ally to pcsx2 I got games to boot but can't press select no buttons work
Awesome Olan, your encouragement means a lot! Congrats on your new Ally X and have fun with Donkey Kong Country on the snes, this was the game that made me fall in love with videogames! 🤩
Great guide! On top of it I made a script to automatically switch controllers input settings between ally’s internal and external for most emulators of emudeck. So easy to dock it and keep playing
Hey u should make sure that people backup their old save files before setting this up IF they had emulation saves before getting emudeck! This happened to me personally as you know but yeah Ive seen other guides on this and none are as straightforward as this, good stuff pete

Very helpful video done setting this on legion go. Sold my ally on Facebook for 240 plus guy gave me PlayStation portal only a month old with receipt. Now keeping an eye on curry’s eBay account as they keep dropping open boxed deals for ally and ally x.
All these videos made me buy an ROG Ally for emulation.....but I've found it really hard to set up even though I've followed all the steps. So frustrating and I feel like I'm really stupid!!😂
Don’t give up or feel stupid Jack and Kimaru, we were all like this when we all started too! Just take your time and it will ‘click’ - putting roms into the correct Rom folder eg snes roms into snes folder, bios is the only slightly tricky part but is only needed when setting up for the first time, you guys have got this! 👊
Trust me, I’m an idiot when it comes to this (see my questions down below). For Roms, the Internet archive is where I download mine. For ps1 games, I was having issues because it downloaded bin and cue files. Then I googled internet archive ps1 chd and it gave me the exact files I needed. For a lot of us, it’s trial and error and a bit of googling.
At the end of the process where the message comes up saying “no game files found” and asks about rom directory mine keeps coming up. I have everything downloaded, do not have an SD so am saving everything under C:\emulation oms
Great video! Very informative, helped me get set up. The only problem I’m having when I load games is no buttons on my Rog Ally X is working in any game I bolt up. I have it in gamepad mode which is what you mentioned in the video for then controls to work. I’m still having an issue.
Great Jeffrey! Hmm not sure about this, if it’s on Gamepad mode then all buttons should work without us having to configure anything… perhaps restarting? And even reinstalling if still now working… hope you find a fix!
@ I uninstalled it twice or three times and still no fix. Could be the roms maybe ? I really don’t know. The game loads up fine but yeah rog ally set in gamepad mode but every time the game gets to the main menu nothing works no controls .
Going to add a caveat with this video. Another tip would be to go in the emulation station settings, other settings, and make sure running in the background is selected. If not, when you quit a game, you just get sound and black screen.
Hey awesome tutorial!! Would you know how to change the screen size on the ds emulator? It gives me 1 small main gameplay screen and 2 large secondary screens thag arent useful any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Elite! Yes open the DS emulator (called MelonDS, it’s in the EmuDeck folder from the start menu) and in settings within MelonDS we can configure how we want the screens 👍
I am running into one issue I can’t seem to figure out. After downloading Emudeck and getting a game loaded up. I am stuck on the main menu of that game. Unable to select anything. I can scroll up and down on the menu for start new game, options ect…. But when I hit “A” the game doesn’t start.
@ I appreciate that! Thank you. If it helps any, a user on reddit had mentioned to me it maybe related to adding an Emudeck controller profile. Which I admit I tried to figure out, and am still working on it lol
When I get to the part at 6:10 it says to only parse emulation station but I see in your video you have them all selected *edit* just noticed the pop up I’m talking about is at 5:49 in your video. What do I do?
I still say the Steam Decks 16:10 aspect ratio OLED screen is the far superior choice for Emulation of systems upto the Gamecube/PS2/Wii & WiiU era. The games scale far better on that ratio than they do on a 16:9 screen. System designed mostly for 4:3 ratio televisions will give far nicer results when using Emulator scaling options.
Hey Sylvester, my next vid will be about Ally X accessories that will be must watch, in terms of sd card any that are A2 standard will be great and I use a Samsung Evo A2 that I highly recommend 👍
it would be alot better if at start of video u tell people they have to downloads there own game roms and also give links to find all the bios downloads as well
I would recommend just downloading roms on the Ally X using the web browser on device but if you must transfer then you’ll prob need a sd card reader adapter or your pc may have one to just copy and paste onto sd card, then just copy these roms into the correct system folder within the Emulation folder..
Finally got some game to run, but only the analog stick works as far as buts and A button pauses the game . I tried to set controls to gamepad but it won’t save or work.
Great question Will, it may just be easier to install EmuDeck like in this tutorial as emulators take up very little space, then just point EmuDeck to where all your roms are located 👍
So I followed the guide to a T, which was super helpful. Thanks! I'm having an issue that I can't find clarification on. When I load into a game, with gamepad mode set, whenever I press A it takes a screenshot. I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop this. Tips?
@PeteTalksTech so basically the answer was in armory crate. For some reason the gamepad template has a bunch of nonsense secondary functions assigned to ABXY. I just blew those functions away. Issue solved lol. Press X on ES and configure the game options. From there just manipulate the gamepad template. Hope this helps someone else! Edit: I still do get the following message when launching a game....though it doesn't seem to affect anything. "asus adaptive xbox controller not configured, falling back"
hey Pete, I'm stuck on the part where you download the scph 5500,1,2. do you have a link i could download from? im no expert at this stuff and looked up them but i haven't seen anything downloadable or ii'mnot looking at the right places..
Around 8:12, I actually got the hang of doing the ps1 part, but everything els under the switch firmware and over I needed checked off on the list, I was unable to find proper downloadable sites I can use, and there’s almost nothing to copy and I don’t want to mess up anything putting anything in the wrong parts
works great on my hacked Ally with the better cpu. I first tried the tutorial on stock Ally and it was fine but if you upgrade the ram and depending on MB revision you replace a SMD capacitor, you get 32gb of RAM and better performance with emulation but you know what I really wish to see in 2025. We already have a adapter for installing 8tb m.2 ssd which worked great for me but I also wish we get a 3rd party GPU Adapter where I could plug in my spare rtx 4090 GPU together with a standard PC power supply. Sure it's messier but honestly I don't feel like playing 2700$ in my country for a stupid external GPU 😂
@ you are the goat sir it was set to auto. The moment I switched it to game pad it started working. I’m having a blast playing super Mario world and donkey Kong. I gotta see about getting the PlayStation games as well but thanks for the guide and the prompt response.
It just depends on the system games you emulate eg snes roms take up very little, GameCube are not too much, whereas like the latest emulation like PS3 will take up much more 👍
@@PeteTalksTech....one more question....I've installed everything to my Ally HDD but now I've got an SD Card 2TB....is there an easy way to migrate everything over to the SD Card or should I uninstall everything and do it over...?
I’m having an issue where I can get into a game like donkey Kong 2. I can move around but I can’t use any of the A,B,X,Y buttons for in game actions. It just does the emulator stuff like pausing or quitting. Edit: so I fixed that by going to the managing emulators and resetting the configuration button on the retroarch emulator. I think my ally was set to auto and changing it to gamepad helped.
@@PeteTalksTechthank that did help. For ps2, I can get the game to load up but it’s not registering any commands regardless of which control mode it’s in. Other guides have said to manually change the mapping in pscx2. Is there a way to do that from emulation station?
It’s best to do in each individual emulator eg pcsx2, emulators should be in Start Menu, go to EmuDeck and it should when clicked give a drop down for each emulator 👍
Good Video, one thing that keeps bothering me , in bios checker , all of the firmware is green , except nintendo switch, ryujinx working fine, but bios checker keep mention file missing in red, please help
Have ya put the keys into the ryujinx keys folder? Also also imported the firmware from a XCI file from within ryujinx into the ‘Install Firmware’ area? Doing both of these should fix it!
@@PeteTalksTech sorry but in English please. Having the same issue and tried everything I know how to do. Still not working for me either and I don’t know what you’re talking about here. Do you have any tutorials on this?
I’ve done a dedicated vid re. sound settings on the Ally, check it out Kevin! 👇 ROG Ally X: How to FIX the QUIET SPEAKERS th-cam.com/video/bcDaz4Z69Dg/w-d-xo.html
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more… Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪 If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇 ROG Ally X: 4 Week HONEST Review th-cam.com/video/7bdeL7megOg/w-d-xo.html
Sooo can you still adjust every games setting according to their emulators? Like for example can you access pcsx2 settings through the app? I'm usually playing these games on their own separate emulators, its a little bit of hassle that way when I'm playing in dock mode, so I've been looking a way to streamline the process a bit and found this emudeck stuff.
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Great question! It’s great on Windows but I’d say slightly better on Bazzite as it was designed first and foremost for SteamOS… I’ll cover this in an upcoming Bazzite vid so stay tuned! 👀
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!

I'm having an issue that I can't find clarification on. When I load into a game, with gamepad mode set, whenever I press A it takes a screenshot. I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop this. Tips?
Have you set it to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop in Control Mode within Command Centre?
@PeteTalksTech yes I have. Maybe resetting the configuration for each emulators in emudeck would work? Currently pulling my hair out.
Yep defo try resetting configurations and making sure all emulators are updated too, hope you’re able to fix it, let us know how ya get on! 🙌
"asus adaptive xbox controller not configured, falling back"
Ahhh thanks for sharing Sentinels, I’m sure this will really help others! 🙌
I think I did every set right but I’ve got no controls for any of the roms I downloaded and idk what I didn’t do correctly
Have ya set control mode in command centre to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop?
Dope vid but have a small issue, the controls aren't working any tips to get the games controls to work?
Thanks war, yes make sure Control Mode in Command Centre is set to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop 👍
@PeteTalksTech thx for the reply bro but still not working lol been at this since I got my console this past Saturday
Hope you get sorted bro, all systems like snes, GameCube etc should work without needing to change or configure controls 👍
I always wanted to emulate but my question is, is it true when people say that you can get in trouble with publisher to the point where they can sue?
I haven’t heard of this…
@PeteTalksTech oh for some reason I thought that anyone can get in trouble with the law if you emulated retro games for free.
Every bio I download and save, the bios checker still says it missing. Idk what to do next.
hey Pete, I'm stuck on the part where you download the scph 5500,1,2. do you have a link i could download from? im no expert at this stuff and looked up them but i haven't seen anything downloadable or ii'mnot looking at the right places..
Post the timestamp in the vid so I can take a closer look 🤔
How do you still have 3DS in there, because it's been installed that long?
I got everything set up the only thing I don’t understand is Whn I start the games my game pad controls doesnt work, any tips
Is it set to GamePad in command centre and not Auto or Desktop in Contol Mode?
@ you are the goat sir it was set to auto. The moment I switched it to game pad it started working. I’m having a blast playing super Mario world and donkey Kong. I gotta see about getting the PlayStation games as well but thanks for the guide and the prompt response.
Happy to help gilly! DKC on the snes was one of the early games that made me fall in love with videogames! 🤩
Everything working well having an issue getting the Dreamcast bios to be detected tho and how do I get the Nintendo switch firmware
Type suyu firmware in Google
Were do i find switch bios please? Struggling 🙈
Anyluck?
Yes
@louisawillis3911 I found all the files but putting them in their respective folders is not working for me.
@josephjahn2239 Have you put them under switch?
How much storage did this require I wanna keep this stuff on a separate microSD card
It just depends on the system games you emulate eg snes roms take up very little, GameCube are not too much, whereas like the latest emulation like PS3 will take up much more 👍
Emulators are not showing up in Emulation Station....only Snes and Nes is showing. Any thoughts....?? Thanks -
Emulators only appear in Emulation Station when we place the roms into the correct system folders, like you’ve done with snes and nes 👍
@@PeteTalksTech thanks for the info, I appreciate your reply 💯👍
@@PeteTalksTech....one more question....I've installed everything to my Ally HDD but now I've got an SD Card 2TB....is there an easy way to migrate everything over to the SD Card or should I uninstall everything and do it over...?
For some reason, emulation station won’t boot up after the rom manager part. Any ideas?
Not sure Duncan, maybe try to reinstall as may be a glitch somewhere?
What website works best for downloading bios? I'm too scared. 😂
In Control Mode is it set to Gamepad and not Auto or Desktop?
@@PeteTalksTechthank that did help. For ps2, I can get the game to load up but it’s not registering any commands regardless of which control mode it’s in. Other guides have said to manually change the mapping in pscx2. Is there a way to do that from emulation station?
It’s best to do in each individual emulator eg pcsx2, emulators should be in Start Menu, go to EmuDeck and it should when clicked give a drop down for each emulator 👍
@@PeteTalksTech I think I got it! Thanks for the help!
if you have one of those anbernic / powkiddy Handhelds could the bios from those just be copy and pasted over ?
I haven’t tried but pretty sure so yes Rocky as I’m assuming that uses the same emulators as the Ally! 👍
Do you have any tutorials on this?
can you tell me what sound settings you have for the og ally please. i cant get sound to work
I’ve done a dedicated vid re. sound settings on the Ally, check it out Kevin! 👇

Can you help me it gets stuck on the collecting drives names
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more…
Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
@@PeteTalksTech thank you. Love the videos. Also should I attempt on the OG Ally? Also a 512 GB or 1 TB is your suggestion?
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪
If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇

Great question paperclip, I could be wrong but I think it’s best to change settings within the emulators themselves..
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Yes it’s great more for dipping in and out of all our retro games on many different systems rather than configuring them within EmuDeck itself 👍
In your opinion is it better to have this on bazzite or windows ?
Looking to download this on my rog ally x and I used to have a steamdeck
Great question! It’s great on Windows but I’d say slightly better on Bazzite as it was designed first and foremost for SteamOS… I’ll cover this in an upcoming Bazzite vid so stay tuned! 👀
Can I do all of this on my windows desktop and just put the SD card into my Ally X and go? Or does all steps need to be done on the Ally it’s self?
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!
I turned off virtual machine setting on my ally x. Is it related to this thing? Thanks
No it’s not related, you’re right to turn off virtual machine to optimise the Ally, this guide is for playing retro games 👍
@@PeteTalksTech thanks, your videos are very helpful
