Great video, super helpful! One tip - if you have a PC or laptop with a MicroSD card reader, I personally found managing the files there instead of on the smaller screen of the Ally X much easier.
I just want to say thank you for this video. I've tried before on my own and failed but today I finally succeeded and got games to run on my Rog ally. You're a legend bro. Subscribed for more knowledge on the Rog ally. Thanks again bro

Thanks Andy! Yes it does get very confusing and that’s why I wanted to clarify in the vid that EmuDeck is the ‘backend’ in setting it all up, and Emulation Station is the ‘front end’ we use to launch our games, happy retro gaming! 🤩
Going to add a caveat with this video. Another tip would be to go in the emulation station settings, other settings, and make sure running in the background is selected. If not, when you quit a game, you just get sound and black screen.
Hey awesome tutorial!! Would you know how to change the screen size on the ds emulator? It gives me 1 small main gameplay screen and 2 large secondary screens thag arent useful any help would be appreciated!
Thanks Elite! Yes open the DS emulator (called MelonDS, it’s in the EmuDeck folder from the start menu) and in settings within MelonDS we can configure how we want the screens 👍
I still say the Steam Decks 16:10 aspect ratio OLED screen is the far superior choice for Emulation of systems upto the Gamecube/PS2/Wii & WiiU era. The games scale far better on that ratio than they do on a 16:9 screen. System designed mostly for 4:3 ratio televisions will give far nicer results when using Emulator scaling options.

Great Jeffrey! Hmm not sure about this, if it’s on Gamepad mode then all buttons should work without us having to configure anything… perhaps restarting? And even reinstalling if still now working… hope you find a fix!

I followed this video exactly and the controls aren't working when I try to open a game with ES-DE in armoury crate, and yes I made sure I am on gamepad mode. I tried a bunch of different solutions but finally found something on Google saying you need to launch the emulators through Steam instead. It specifically mentioned opening ROMs and emulators through armoury crate directly will not work on ROG Ally. It is working now but this might help someone if their controls aren't working either.

@@PeteTalksTech....one more question....I've installed everything to my Ally HDD but now I've got an SD Card 2TB....is there an easy way to migrate everything over to the SD Card or should I uninstall everything and do it over...?
Sooo can you still adjust every games setting according to their emulators? Like for example can you access pcsx2 settings through the app? I'm usually playing these games on their own separate emulators, its a little bit of hassle that way when I'm playing in dock mode, so I've been looking a way to streamline the process a bit and found this emudeck stuff.
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Guys can someone please help me… I did everything but when I play GameCube games on the dolphin. No buttons work besides the start button all other buttons don’t do anything… idk what to do I can’t find a tutorial on how to fix the buttons
I think I did everything right but my only issue is my buttons do weird things like for example when I press A button it does a screen shot. All my buttons are messed up. I just want it set like an Xbox control. Any tips?
Thank you so much for this great video - it helped me a lot getting emu desk running. ;O) Just one question: How can I delete games (after adding them with help of the steam rom manager) so that the do not longer appear within the list of EmulationStation? I've deleted them manually with help of the explorer, but they still are appearing in the lists of EmulationStation - even after using the Steam ROM manager (Step 6).
Happy to help meerland! It works for me if I delete the Rom from the Emulation folder so eg in snes folder, then go into Steam Rom Manager to Parse and Save, then it shouldn’t show up in Emulation Station 👍
it would be alot better if at start of video u tell people they have to downloads there own game roms and also give links to find all the bios downloads as well
Anyone know how to fix white screen issue for DS games? I have the bios files installed like the video showed. Also in Retroarch settings i made sure its set to DS instead of DSi. Tried a few tbings and nothing works.
Good Video, one thing that keeps bothering me , in bios checker , all of the firmware is green , except nintendo switch, ryujinx working fine, but bios checker keep mention file missing in red, please help
Have ya put the keys into the ryujinx keys folder? Also also imported the firmware from a XCI file from within ryujinx into the ‘Install Firmware’ area? Doing both of these should fix it!
@@PeteTalksTech sorry but in English please. Having the same issue and tried everything I know how to do. Still not working for me either and I don’t know what you’re talking about here. Do you have any tutorials on this?
hi pete! in need of help please? i did everything you mentioned in the video but my buttons arent working correctly. emulators and games work. on auto mode, d pad works i can move. but the b button when click twice it exits the game and my A button pauses the game when i try to play super mario. please make a video on how to set up your controllers that would be so much appreciated!
Hi and thanks for the video. I am having a problem where the hotkeys arnt what they say they are. If I do select +RB or LB, they both try to move selected save slot not save or load. Any ideas?
I haven’t experienced this Cycalo - have ya set in Command Centre to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop in Control Mode? If so any viewers have any ideas?
@@PeteTalksTech Hi Pete thanks for answering, I figured it out! So I was launching EmulationStation DE through steam as i first thought I had to do this. Then from your video you were launching it from windows directly through AC. When i was launching it through steam it was conflicting the steam input keybinds to the emulators.
@ you are the goat sir it was set to auto. The moment I switched it to game pad it started working. I’m having a blast playing super Mario world and donkey Kong. I gotta see about getting the PlayStation games as well but thanks for the guide and the prompt response.
How do i fix the controls for my ally? When i hit A or B in games on emulationstation, it either pauses or takes a snapshot.......not what it should do.
@@calebhernandez8358 I did not. :-( Still trying to find a solution, everyone says "Make sure you're in "Gamepad mode" Um yeah, I am.....still have the issue.

Hey Sylvester, my next vid will be about Ally X accessories that will be must watch, in terms of sd card any that are A2 standard will be great and I use a Samsung Evo A2 that I highly recommend 👍
Hi, thanks for the amazing video guide. However I did encounter a problem when trying to launch Emulation Station DE from my Armory Crate. All games that I try just don't seem to respond to any of my Ally buttons. Yes, it was on gamepad mode. After some reading I think we need to launch everything from steam so the emulators use steam input. Is this not your case? Were you able to play the games fine when launching the ES-DE from Armory Crate? Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the Guide Coffee! Yes all my buttons seemed fine after doing all the steps incl. Parsing and Saving the games in Steam Rom Manager… Hope you manage to fix!
@PeteTalksTech hi there! Thanks for replying. I ended up setting up my emulators manually, since I don't have that many I want to play. I just use the ES-DE front-end for all emulators and launch them from Armory Crate with my own personal hotkeys and power profile. Quite a hassle setting it up, since I need to check the command prompts and everything, but it's all good now. My only gripe is that I have to manually add Yuzu configs on ES-DE, but there's a lot of them online so I just copy paste.
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more… Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪 If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇 ROG Ally X: 4 Week HONEST Review th-cam.com/video/7bdeL7megOg/w-d-xo.html
Hmm. I'm on Step 6 but when I click on Steam Rom Manager, the Steam OS application is off, then I get "launching Steam Rom Manager, and nothing happens.
I'm having a hell of a time with the controlls in retroarch. When I press A it will also take a screenshot and when i press left and right it will toggle between save states. I have tried auto, desktop, and gamepad and it does the same thing. Is there a way to fix this? This was never an issue on my steam deck.
Hey blades, did you follow all the steps exactly in the vid? If so and you’ve selected Gamepad then it should work perfect, no idea why this is happening 🤷♂️
Everything is set up. However, the key mapping for the controller is not working. For example, in Sonic 2 I can't jump, and A pauses the game, while b exits ES... Please help
Hey matt I don’t really do ps2 emulation - can any viewers help? I’d suggest: 1. perhaps moving the ps2 Rom to c drive instead of sd card for quicker speeds 2. it could be an issue with the Rom so perhaps try another - do other ps2 roms work fine ? 3. Finally just try different configurations within the ps2 emulator Let us know how ya get on!
So how do you get ps1 and ps2 games to play? The bios checker for menis green, i download the ps1 games and its a .bin cue file, it shows up but doesn't launch, do we have to convert those to iso?
I watched your video . Love it , I’m not savvy I wish I could have you do that for me , I’d love to be able to play old games . You used the micro sd card , right ? Can you use one and put it in a different system to play ? I would buy one and send to you if you could do that . And pay you of course ?
Glad you like the vid chuckday! I don’t offer this service unfortunately, you don’t have to use an sd card, you can install EmuDeck to the Ally’s C drive - I’d recommend just taking your time, watch the vid step by step and pause, once it ‘clicks’ and you figure it out it will be very easy so all the best with it! 🙌
help me please... i cant find the nintendo switch firmware eventhough i place some of i download in net in bios folder it always says nintendo switch firmware missing i dont know what to do it is the only one missing please help😢
it wont let me download the Bios for some reason, im trying to download them from the website and they just send me to a site that wont load and it wont start the download for the file?? anything you suggest to fix this?
@PeteTalksTech had everything working and went through like 3-4 hours of working on it and downloading Roms, and now my EmulationstationDE won't let me click on anything or touch the screen or hit the menu button. Like for some reason my interface won't work if that makes sense
Hey Ben, it should take no more than 5 mins to install so something is going wrong somewhere... have you tried installing to the main C drive instead of an SD card (which made mine glitch out too)?
It should defo take less than say 15 mins… it also got stuck because my sd card d drive I selected to install on already had my emulation folder from my old Ally and this made it hang for me too so selecting the C drive to install to resolved this (I didn’t include this in vid as didn’t want to confuse new 1st time installers)

@@PeteTalksTech....one more question....I've installed everything to my Ally HDD but now I've got an SD Card 2TB....is there an easy way to migrate everything over to the SD Card or should I uninstall everything and do it over...?
Every bio I download and save, the bios checker still says it missing. Idk what to do next.
Great question paperclip, I could be wrong but I think it’s best to change settings within the emulators themselves..
@@PeteTalksTech oh well, i guess its still not completely hassle-free, hahaha. Maybe I'm still gonna try this for simpler and lighter emulators like 8bit ,16bit, 32bit era stuff. Anyway, thanks!
Yes it’s great more for dipping in and out of all our retro games on many different systems rather than configuring them within EmuDeck itself 👍
Guys can someone please help me… I did everything but when I play GameCube games on the dolphin. No buttons work besides the start button all other buttons don’t do anything… idk what to do I can’t find a tutorial on how to fix the buttons
Is it set to Gamepad in Control Mode instead of Auto or Desktop?
@@PeteTalksTechI’ve set mine to gamepad mode but when I launch a game nothing works
I think I did everything right but my only issue is my buttons do weird things like for example when I press A button it does a screen shot. All my buttons are messed up. I just want it set like an Xbox control. Any tips?
I just want to play Pokémon lol
Also I do have control mode set to gamepad already.
I’ll have a look into this Caleb - any other viewers struggling with the controls?
How do you still have 3DS in there, because it's been installed that long?
Everything working well having an issue getting the Dreamcast bios to be detected tho and how do I get the Nintendo switch firmware
Type suyu firmware in Google
Dope vid but have a small issue, the controls aren't working any tips to get the games controls to work?
Thanks war, yes make sure Control Mode in Command Centre is set to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop 👍
@PeteTalksTech thx for the reply bro but still not working lol been at this since I got my console this past Saturday
Hope you get sorted bro, all systems like snes, GameCube etc should work without needing to change or configure controls 👍
@@PeteTalksTech Thank you so much for your fast response and your help! 🙂
Happy to help meerland! 🙌
it would be alot better if at start of video u tell people they have to downloads there own game roms and also give links to find all the bios downloads as well
Appreciate the feedback but unfortunately us TH-camrs can’t share exactly where to find roms/bios, but a simple google search is all that’s needed…
I don't even have a ROG ally but this video was still a good watch. Pancakes is so cute
You’re very right, Pancake is gorgeous which is why she is featured in every vid here on the channel! She just purred to say “Hi Aurora!” 🐈🤩
@PeteTalksTech aww that earned a sub lol 😆 😂 🥰🥰🥰
Pancake just meowed again to say "thanks Aurora for the sub!" 🐈🤩
Anyone know how to fix white screen issue for DS games? I have the bios files installed like the video showed. Also in Retroarch settings i made sure its set to DS instead of DSi. Tried a few tbings and nothing works.
Fixed it by downloading bios files from somewhere else. Guess the ones I had weren't compatible.
Thanks for sharing your solution Ross!
Do you have any tutorials on this?
its amazin tutorial very detail, unfortunatly i can find the nintendo switch firmware and the dreamcast BIOS. any body can help me please
I’m bit confused on step 4, does the emulators have games or you have to download them one by one on google
We download the games one by one on Google 👍
hi pete! in need of help please? i did everything you mentioned in the video but my buttons arent working correctly. emulators and games work. on auto mode, d pad works i can move. but the b button when click twice it exits the game and my A button pauses the game when i try to play super mario. please make a video on how to set up your controllers that would be so much appreciated!
Hey Food! Have ya tried switching to GamePad mode instead of Auto in Command Centre? That should fix it!
Ahhhh glad you sorted it cycalo, happy retro gaming! 🙌
I got everything set up the only thing I don’t understand is Whn I start the games my game pad controls doesnt work, any tips
Is it set to GamePad in command centre and not Auto or Desktop in Contol Mode?
@ you are the goat sir it was set to auto. The moment I switched it to game pad it started working. I’m having a blast playing super Mario world and donkey Kong. I gotta see about getting the PlayStation games as well but thanks for the guide and the prompt response.
Happy to help gilly! DKC on the snes was one of the early games that made me fall in love with videogames! 🤩
Dropped a like for Pancake ❤
Pancake meowed to say “thanks catsanova!” 🐈🐈
How do i fix the controls for my ally? When i hit A or B in games on emulationstation, it either pauses or takes a snapshot.......not what it should do.
Make sure Control Mode in Command Centre is set to Gamepad instead of Auto or Desktop 👍
@@PeteTalksTech It is......still does it.
Hmm not too sure then, any viewers have any ideas?
@smokeyarcade did you figure it out? That’s my current issue
@@calebhernandez8358 I did not. :-( Still trying to find a solution, everyone says "Make sure you're in "Gamepad mode" Um yeah, I am.....still have the issue.

what size SD card would you recommend me getting? any brands/model of SD card you would recommend? thanks
Hey Sylvester, my next vid will be about Ally X accessories that will be must watch, in terms of sd card any that are A2 standard will be great and I use a Samsung Evo A2 that I highly recommend 👍

Im confused. I got to the part where you select the EmulationStation-DE Default Theme and there are no themes. just a blank window. Any ideas?
Post time stamp in vid and I’ll have a closer look 👀
Ace glad you got it sorted Coffee!
if you have one of those anbernic / powkiddy Handhelds could the bios from those just be copy and pasted over ?
I haven’t tried but pretty sure so yes Rocky as I’m assuming that uses the same emulators as the Ally! 👍
For some reason when I try to play def jam it won’t play it just sends me back to the main screen
That’s weird Devoted, perhaps try a different Rom version of the game?
@PeteTalksTech i did from a different site and still didn't work not sure why
Hmm not sure, maybe check some reddits to see if there’s a known emulation issue with the game?
Can I do all of this on my windows desktop and just put the SD card into my Ally X and go? Or does all steps need to be done on the Ally it’s self?
Great question Dominic! Obviously we need to install it onto the Ally X and go through the steps to configure it on the device, but in terms of finding tons of roms and bios etc all that could be done on a different windows pc/laptop yep!
How much space do I need to have to install Emudeck and all the rooms? Also should I even attempt to use the SD card reader on my OG Ally. I bought it brand new in December.
Great questions Lee, EmuDeck app itself is very small, and ROMs depend on the system - earlier ones like snes are barely any storage, more recent like GameCube is quite a bit more…
Personally I wouldn’t recommend using the sd card on the OG Ally unfortunately… 😪
@@PeteTalksTech thank you. Love the videos. Also should I attempt on the OG Ally? Also a 512 GB or 1 TB is your suggestion?
Thanks Lee! Attempt an SD card? I recommend not using one on the OG Ally… 😪
If you are able at some point I’d highly recommend the Ally X, check out my new review! 👇

If so and you’ve selected Gamepad then it should work perfect, no idea why this is happening 🤷♂️
it keeps saying asus adaptive controller not configured using fall back and un maps my key binds can anyone help
Everything is set up. However, the key mapping for the controller is not working. For example, in Sonic 2 I can't jump, and A pauses the game, while b exits ES... Please help
Have you set it to GamePad in Control Mode in Command Centre instead of Auto or Desktop?
@@PeteTalksTech that was the problem. Thank you!!

Why is it taking a screen shot every time I press A even with my back buttons turned off?
Have ya selected Gamepad and not Auto or Desktop in Control Mode within Command Centre?
pete i have stuttering problem while doing ps2 emulationon the microsd please can you help me?
Hey matt I don’t really do ps2 emulation - can any viewers help? I’d suggest:
1. perhaps moving the ps2 Rom to c drive instead of sd card for quicker speeds
2. it could be an issue with the Rom so perhaps try another - do other ps2 roms work fine ?
3. Finally just try different configurations within the ps2 emulator
Let us know how ya get on!
So how do you get ps1 and ps2 games to play? The bios checker for menis green, i download the ps1 games and its a .bin cue file, it shows up but doesn't launch, do we have to convert those to iso?
I haven’t tried ps1/2 games yet - can any of our great viewers help?
@@PeteTalksTech I got a ps2 game to work, I think the bios have to not be in any sub folders when you put them in the bios folder
Ahhhh that makes sense!
I cannot figure out how to do switch games that’s all there’s no bios I’m not sure can someone please help me
I watched your video .

Perhaps try getting bios from another site and use Brave browser 👍
@PeteTalksTech had everything working and went through like 3-4 hours of working on it and downloading Roms, and now my EmulationstationDE won't let me click on anything or touch the screen or hit the menu button. Like for some reason my interface won't work if that makes sense
Very weird, try restarting the handheld perhaps?
@PeteTalksTech I had to factory reset my rog ally and re-download everything, I'm pretty sure there was a corrupted file
Yikes! But glad it's fixed!
I keep getting stuck at ppsspp in the download stage and it does not move i even left it over night and i dont know how to fix it.
Hey Ben, it should take no more than 5 mins to install so something is going wrong somewhere... have you tried installing to the main C drive instead of an SD card (which made mine glitch out too)?
How long does it take to complete the installation? It seems to ge stuck on the sonic menu, and i didn't select Pegasus
Finally got True Crime to work but it seems to be slowed down. It’s working okay but the game is moving in slow motion
Try playing in 25w Turbo Mode or even 30w plugged in Turbo Mode as it may need that extra power 👍
