    Alexander Hamilton. Founding Father. Avid Duelist. Only lost once. What if he had been "president". Or at least took the country in the direction he really wanted.

      Either he was stupid and delusional to the point of insanity… or he understood that the political division was something of a necessity but also knew the rhetorical power of these ideas had to be promoted even if everyone was just going to ignore them anyway because it’s still an ideal to strive for.

    The man was so controversial one theory is that the natural born citizen clause was written into the presidential requirements specifically to disqualify Hamilton since he was born in the Carribbean not in any of the 13 colonies.

    • @norarivkis2513
      @norarivkis2513 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      Except it didn't disqualify him, because all the people legally resident in the United States at the time the Constitution was signed were recognized as native. Otherwise, none of the early presidents would have qualified, as none of them were born in the United States, which didn't exist yet. There was no legal distinction between those who were born in Virginia when it was a British colony and those who were born in St. Kitts.

    • @alex_zetsu
      @alex_zetsu หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wait... George Washington wasn't naturally born in US either since Virginia was British. Not a "US territory" it was straight up not part of USA which didn't exist yet.

      @@alex_zetsu Right, exactly. The rule was that everyone who was a citizen of any state when the US was born became a native-born citizen of the United States. After that, they had to be born within the United States (or, based on later case law, born to two parents who are US citizens living abroad), but they had to have a way for the adult generation to be recognized as citizens at the birth of the nation.
