    I had a problem with my gray print head. Only 1/3 was grey the rest was clear, accordingly, I thought my head was dead; new one $200!!! NOT SO!
    I took out head and laid in 2mm of warm water, careful not to get water onto electrical contacts, on back, dropped some warm (filtered water onto the holes where ink goes in followed by a little isopropyl alcohol) I cleaned my contacts on head and printer. [Lite wipe with damp alchohol on clean cloth] I CHANGED OUT the gray cartridge, (I had another one and refilled and reset it) I ran a deep clean, and voila! The head started printing all the way down, but with a gap near top and fine lines.
    I did another deep clean, the other lines went away, and the head is almost good. A thin line gap 1/3 way up, but its getting better. I'm sure with cleanings and use it will clear up. It's printing well now and happy even with the way it is. I did not have to replace printer or head.

    Reading the comment, its seems like everyone going to great lengths to to fix possibly clogged print heads. flushing, soaking, cleaning cycles, soaking overnight, water, alcohol, sonic cleaning, taking the printer apart, etc, etc. Understandable since its sucks to pay up for a print head, they arent cheap but if a new print head will fix the issue, isnt it just worth it to to buy one and save yourself hours, days of frustration and headaches? How can one be sure its the print head?

    My apologies. It is a Canon Pro 9500. I found the grey ink needed replacing. Still, I could not run a test sheet; it was completely blank after several tries. Mind you, i have not used this printer in over 6 years and maybe the nozzles were clogged. But I did the nozzle cleaning at least 3 times. So, what is the problem?

    Hi Jose. Just wondering if I can regularly print a nozzle check on my Canon Pro9500 to prevent the printer head from clogging if I have nothing to print over a period of time?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a situation that is a no win. When you get half the nozzle check printed it is always a print head electronic failure and it could also be the logic board that failed and caused the problem. So regardless it is a no win.

    • @vernonadams1536

      A few weeks ago I was having striping issues with some of the colors on the paper output after an ink refill, then the printer just died a few days ago. Momentary power up, will not stay on. Everything you described points to printer head failure and logic board failure. It was an old Canon MP830 that had exceeded its life expectancy. Thanks again for the insight!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! That is about it. The CANON Print Heads have a finite life span! Once the reach that point they will simply begin to fail or nozzles get to the point they are physically damaged and there is nothing you can do. Looks like time for a new printer.

    I realize this is an old video but I have a Pro 100 printing Cyan in the block that is supposed to be Black and the Cyan is printing Cyan but in streaks like the nozzles are blocked. Before this occured the issue was the streaky Cyan test block. I removed the print head and manually cleaned it and that's when the Black priting as Cyan occured and it didn't solve the original streaky Cyan issue.

      @@cheo1949 Well I kinda thought that too, but there is no mix of black and cyan. It's straight up cyan where it's supposed to be black. Very strange. I was wondering if this isn't a sign of bad print head or logic board, which is how I came to this video. I'm trying to not toss this printer. I'd switch the print heaad (I have one) but I don't want to ruin a good print head. I also don't want to chance putting this print head in another printer and have it ruin a good logic board. Would a bad logic board cause a good print head to fail?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is indicative of electronic failure of the printhead. You need a new printhead and the problem with that is that it can also be caused by a faulty motherboard so you might get that new printhead install it only to have IT also become damaged by the motherboard as well. There is no way to diagnose this before hand. But you might get lucky and nothing will happen but it is indeed an electronic failure that printhead is irreparably damaged.

    My Epson died a couple of days ago. It won't turn on! I'm in the UK, so I checked the fuse. It was fine. :'( I will be taking mine apart. Mainly for curiosity reasons. I seem to have bad luck with Epson devices. I've had two Epson printers and a scanner croak on me. I hope my current Epson scanner doesn't follow suite!
    My Canon is still working like a sweetie though. I took your advice, and went back to using cartridges in it. I'm debating with myself if I need another printer.

    I somewhat disagree. I've just spent 1/2 hour with the same symptom. My BK channel was partly gone. The top part of my test prints missing. After many, many, many, deep cleans, attempts at head alignment, and 3 different cartridges I'm back to 100%. Also errors during print head alignment.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David if the top half of any channel on a nozzle is missing, The Print head is dead.. 50% of a channel nozzle check missing is indicative of an electronic failure. You can run cleanings till the cows come home and it won't matter. New carts won't matter. If you are back to 100% then you are one of the very rare lucky ones. But you still can not attain a print head alignment??? Then you are not truly at 100%.

  • @Jikizuari
    @Jikizuari 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dear Jose, currently my Pro-100 is not printing black at all. There's new carts installed. If 1 channel is not printing at all, would that be considered a failure as well? Or is that only with half of the colour missing?
    If there's still a chance of surviving I shall take it apart and try to unclog the black channel with some cleaning solution and a syringe/plastic tube. But if there's a 100% chance it's the printhead I might as well not waste my time and even more money I guess.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should at least see something. It hardly is ever 100% blank. When you say new cart I assume you mean real OEM ones and not ones you have been refilling. So if it is OEM than i night just be the print head. You could remove it and dribble Windex on the input port for black as you let the print head sit over folded paper towels wetted with Windex. But that is a last resort. If that does not work then you need a new print head.

      I read most of this. This printer looks AWESOME! I read his page bringing it in and sending it back. LOL. I am so sad, I don't think I can fit it where I need it. I really need the diagonal width to see if I can buy it. I called Canon, but apparently the printers are nowhere near the Customer Service folks. Do you know anyone who might kindly provide that information? It would help enormously!

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw you post asking about this on DPreview. Why don't you ask Keith personally. I is a posted at the DPreview and you can probably PM him and see if he remembers the diagonal length. If you get it new you don't have to worry about tilting. Just like the PRO-1000. It's later IF you wish to move it to another location that things her hairy!

      I heard about the tilting and moving. Plan A has been carried through (room has been made). Now if the Canon doesn't fit, I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do. I did contact him, (thanks), this morning. He said he didn't have it any more (he's the one who sent me the link to the post of him sending it back). Had to get a new P800 (I have a feeling it's refurbished). But one good thing: I did get all new "starter"" inks.

    Been watching your videos as soon as my printer displayed some issues, exactly what you've described here. Via the print head allignment, my Canon Pixma Pro-1 prints the colour 'PC' top half as faded, but the bottom half is perfectly fine. Totally sucks, seeing as though I save my printing for those that really count, given how expensive the OEM ink is (I was going to look at doing refills, but I guess that's ruined now). To be honest, I haven't used the printer for about 8 months now, so it's more than likely my own fault for not regular use and it has possibly dried out on the ink head, or ruined it in some other way.

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rather than printing images when you clearly see that there a problem, you should have printer a nozzle check and if bad follow with a cleaning cycle, a rest, and another nozzle check and hope for the best. If nothing helps then you need a new print head and they will cost more than the net cost of a new printer.

    Jose, my pro 9500 ii froze on me. The print head won't budge and error lights flash 10 times. I've tried all the reset tricks. The bad news is that I just purchased all Canon ink cartridges plus the precision ink refills for it (over 300.00 in ink)...Of course. Is there a new Canon printer that will take the same cartridges that I can purchase or am I SOL on all this ink?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the 9500 and 9500mkii can take those carts. You have the dreaded B200 printhead error. It happens with zero warning.
      So as you put it you are SOL. The 9500mkii is considered three generations behind today's similar models such as the PRO10 and PRO300. But though the cart bodies are the same, the chips are not.

      How do you prime it?

      Exactly like you did when you first set up the printer. Install head, load full carts, close the lid. It will then perform the head ink charge! Since you already did that then you need to perform a deep clean and let the printer rest a few hours then run a nozzle.check and see if it has improved.

      Thank you for your sympathy. Any printer that suffers a sudden death is a very sad thing.
