There are plenty nice EVs out there and coming, but as you have described in this video just how far ahead Tesla is amongst the others. Despite the predictable howling from the Lucid fanboys, Dave’s exactly right. My 8 year old MS has a better UI than my 23 Lucid Touring. I’m very disappointed in Lucid so far, and very concerned about their future. And, my concern has nothing to do with the charging infrastructure. Lucid makes a beautiful car that oozes luxury and advanced architecture, but is compromised by poorly designed electronics and clunky interfaces.

Even as I own a Y, live in Calif, I still occasionally have range anxiety. E.g. return home from Santa Barbara, we found out Hw1 was closed. Wasted 75 mile of 🔋 range to backtrack. Another time, pull in Stockton/Hwy99 SuperCharger, it was full. Imagine what it'd be like in busy holidays as Teslas multiply like rabbits. So CCS issues by itself will cause Lucid to fail. What is an expensive car that's no good for road trips?

If you're on the road and passing through ft myers / cape coral good luck finding a public supercharger to conveniently top up at. That's where he's filming at. When I thought about renting a Tesla and checked on the charging infrastructure there it totally sucked. I feel sorry for those who fly in and rent a Tesla without checking ahead on the charging situation first. ICE FTW if you're going to be visiting Cape Coral. Dave I received my Lucid last May. I agree with some of your comments. Although on my car the reaction time for the passenger function changing the seat is much faster. Also My slow driving is very smooth maybe some things have changed. Except for one quirk where my volume got stock last week the software seems to be faster. The charging network is not good. If you do not mind charging at home there are no issues but this is a big problem for all EV's not on the Tesla network. Lastly I agree on the Dream Drive Pro. One of my employees bought a model three and the software is really nice. I was hoping when I received my car as I ordered a Stealth Model Air Touring that the software for the Dream Drive Pro would wow me. Honestly It is one of my biggest issue. Lastly one thing I am surprised that was not brought up and maybe it is me as I use the key. Sometimes my key does not work and i will sit outside the car and have to open the car with my phone. I tried to setup my phones bluetooth as a key but I cannot get it to work. If they work some of these things out I believe it is a really nice car. I love how it looks how it drives and for the most part am a happy with it but they need to work on the software.

Definitely they would improve over the time with software updates. Even Tesla faced a lot of issues in their earlier stages. Their enhanced autopilot and Fsd are crazy when they were released. Dave, thanks for posting the feedback. I hope that Lucid Engineers take it seriously. There's nothing better than live demonstration of the concerns, especially when it comes with the intentions of improving the experience. I had the Model 3 (as well), and agree that the slow driving (traffic) was pretty smooth, so it should definitely be as smooth or smoother in the Lucid. Providing information such as the name of the song, or pet mode (temp inside the vehicle), are very valid and simple points. I had suggested to Tesla and Elon, that they consider allowing feedback from drivers after a vehicle initiated hard brake event to determine if it was legitimate or not... because my Model 3 had slammed on the brakes on the highway due to a falling leaf (it was a scary event). That instant feedback from the Driver along with the information captured by the vehicle should allow for useful datapoints for the Engineers involved in the Self-driving and safety features of the vehicle. It seems like you want to help us get better vehicles and I appreciate your efforts. Keep it up!

All true. But, when I drive every Tesla model, they are not nearly as comfortable to drive and the idea that I would have to hunt through screens for a virtual control to control the direction the air is blowing from the vents is a non-starter. I won't, not now, not ever. The BMW i5 and i7 probably do all of this better, but they lack the range and usable space. For now, Lucid is the best available, but they better get on it or they'll be left behind pretty quickly.

For me, I’m willing to overlook a few luxuries (fine leather, CarPlay, ultimate range) for a smooth ecosystem and highest engineering/technology/safety. I want an established brand with solid financials, management and proven execution. Tesla has incredible software engineers, hardware and innovation. FSD is next level compared to others. Max range isn’t really my concern even with my old Model X-175k miles and 220 max range. I can travel SoCal to NorCal, Vegas albeit with more charging.

Hmmm...I guess by the way you put it, if I had to road trip like ALL the time, then yeah, I would likely not keep my non-Tesla EV. But for normal use (what I think of as normal anyway) of road tripping of 1 - 3 road trips a year and the rest daily driving with charging available at home, I couldnt see my way to changing up bc of a few issues with CCS charging. And yes, I've only had less than a handful in about 3 years. With the whole NACS about to become (it really already has) the standard anyway and an adapter is all that'll be needed for use of the SC network next year, I'm good. I do appreciate your viewpoint as it does provide much value!

10:00……get the visor retrofitted to collapse. I know they should have thought of that but it’s an easy fix. Again. It’s common to make a lot of these mistakes in the cars infancy.
That’s why the Tesla model s long range is so much better.

Interesting comments! I was considering BMW electrics but with their insistence to stay with CCS and partner with "like-minded" companies and build their own network, BMW was removed as an EV candidate. I own a BMW, so I have nothing against the Brand, outside of their nutty pricing. If Tesla had lowered the price of their product line, and in particular the "S" about 2 weeks before they actually did, a Tesla "S" would be sitting in my garage instead of a BMW. I think I'll go with the company that can, by OTA updates, unlock an additional 100HP

Legacy ICE brands have a LONG way to go to catch Tesla. So long, in fact, that anyone looking to buy anything other than Tesla in 2023 is going to suffer. Seriously. It's either Tesla, or ICE for me right now. Couldn't even imagine owning another EV.

@@thegrandpencil4374 I'd have to agree with you., at least, as of 2023. I'm not going to buy into any manufactuer's futures claims, especialy when it comes to charging networks. Doing so would almost be like buying into "roboTeslas" roaming the streets in 2020

Your reason is the same reason I got rid of my Audi etron. I too, take many road trips and I just got tired of the non-Tesla charging infrastructure here in the US. Pitiful and getting worse, IMHO.

I wonder why is it that the US is so incapable of sorting out the charging situation? In some part of the world it's a nonissue and not something you'd even have to consider while choosing a car. Currently out of what's available in the US connector wise, the nacs seem like a winning option due to inertia alone, so why not just roll with it for now - it's not like 3 phase power is around the corner in most US locations. But even so, the protocol is essentially CCS for all cars, so how in the name of ass are EA and others incapable of doing something that is commonplace in many parts of the world? Granted, using CCS2 but still.

2025 will be the year many EVs will have real access to NACS, and until then have to deal with CCS.

Much frustration is rooted in high expectations of technology. Folks would be much happier if we depended on simpler things. Manual seats, buttons, knobs, air louvers and such. Automating everything and activating everything on a screen is just setting us up for disappointment.

Interesting he's in Fort Myers. Across the river in Cape Coral there's all of 1 Tesla Supercharger available, not really, unless you're a guest of the Marriott hotel it's located at. See the front desk to use it. The Tesla supercharging options in Fort Myers while better didn't look great either. Was thinking about renting a Hertz Tesla but yeah screw that. Really surprised Cape Coral a city of nearly a quarter-million people had one supercharger and it's for the exclusive use of guests of the hotel. You'll see quite a few EVs on the road too, they're all locals who charge at home. If you're a visitor who's traveling and are looking for a Supercharger in Cape Coral you are boned!
