    Hi Beeca, Chris.Wow! What an episode. The first 2 minutes are full of audio effects which is amazing, and must have took Chris ages to sync everything up. Then we had an amazing "Cooking Breakfast" sequence. You're videos are just amazing, production and creativity are the best, again it must have taken you both ages, and it's very much appreciated. Becca's floor is now looking spot on. Becca always comes up with an idea and today the floor solution worked. Sink tops are perfection. Well done both of you. Thank you. Take Care.

    Let Chris sit on it while Bex drills up from above. What could go wrong? Just imagine describing to Emergency Services that you just attached Chris to the top of the work surface! 🤣

      @@TheNomadicCrobot, There is very little that would surprise me. Screwing some one's bottom into a work top....pretty mild stuff. I used to be a letter carrier, and the things I saw--I have a pretty good imagination, but nothing near what I would need to invent the stories I could tell....😂

    The floor is beautiful Bex in spite having a crazy helper. We think you (Becca) should wood~burn your signature into the kitchen counter, after all YOU are the one who designed and have made it come to life. It's a work of art.
    Not to leave Chris out in the cold he does make a good brekkie, even though a bit scorched around the edges, but he's learning. Be good to yourselves ~ until next time Hugs & Love ~ Lacy, Mike & Hamish🐾🇺🇸

    Well done over coming the problems with the floor. Don’t feel too bad about those bending nails Chris .It usually happens if the timber your hammering into , is not on a solid base.Any bounce in the timber will result in a bent nail. You need to press down on the board as hard as you can , to stop any bounce while your hammering .😊

    If you keep the dust form sanding the floors you can mix it with PVA or resin and use it to fill any gaps, it will also take any stain you may use. Also agree with what others have said and drill a pilot hole B4 nailing.

      @@TheNomadicCrobot I would also be tempted not to fix the boards to the subfloor, and just leave it as a "floating" floor, glue and clamp the boards together, gluing all along the tongue and groove, and clamp using the flooring straps you already have. If you glue properly, and ensure you have enough overlap of the boards,
      It will never move.
      However I have never fitted a floor in a boat but lots in houses, so someone may advise against this.

    Another great Vlog. 😂
    Another observation, as you are gluing the boards down, you only need a small pin as a secondary fixing.
    The nails you are using are way too long for the job in hand.
    Make it easy for yourselves, especially when nailing old ply board flooring.
    Best of luck, you certainly are an inspiration to loads of people out here.

    Have you allowed an expansion gap where the floor abuts the units? the usual practice is to a thin strip of cork along all of the edges.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fortunately I have. I just hope I have left enough! Thanks for the tip though, I didn't know about the cork thing ☺️

  • @cms9902
    @cms9902 ปีที่แล้ว

    There is a better solution to nailing tongue and groove, using screws. Thinnish screws and making sure they are pushed home not to stop the tongue and groove from connecting. Also, if you get a wonky board, get a piece of wood at right angles and whack it with a hammer rubber of metal. This normally does the job. Nail guns are ideal for flooring as well but expensive. Edit. Tongue and groove is notorious for not quite fitting together, and there is a device pro's use that also gets around the problem.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! If only we had known. I just went with nails as that's how they had originally been secured down and it seemed to make sense! Thanks for all your useful thoughts. Glad it's not just us!!

    • @cms9902
      @cms9902 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you image doing this in a room and you get to the last board but one before a wall, you need to shoe horn/force the tongues home into the groove, very common issue. There is a simple mechanical device that let's you do this, otherwise you'd get a wonky floor. Hope that makes sense.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh right yeah that makes perfect sense! Thanks for sharing ☺️

  • @ProjectNarrowboat
    @ProjectNarrowboat ปีที่แล้ว

    Floor's starting to look good. Typically that sort of floor would be fixed to itself, eg you could just glue the edges to each other, leave the whole thing floating over the substrate. That way you should avoid problems with expansion and contraction of the different materials. I wonder if the nailing throws things out a bit.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this. I just hope over time we don't encounter problems... I chose to do it this way simply because when we lifted this floor the first time, that was how it had been secured so I presumed it was the correct way to do it. I have left space for expansion around the edges so with any luck it will be ok 🤞

    Your making your own disasters. Firstly you should only be using pins to tack the boards to stop movement not whacking long nails. The result is simply that the nails will bend. PS you are nailing in the right places, well done.

      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh ok thanks Raymond. I opted for nails simply because that's how these boards had been originally secured down so I presumed that was the correct thing to do. In fairness after the first few bodgey nails we got on ok with them! Phew!

    the nails are too long or you can drill through the groove board first, by the way, Chris you are horrible with hand tools I meant it in a funny way. you guys rock keep making those great content

      I think part of the problem is we had some nails which seemed a little too short and others that were too long so the ones you saw bending were the too long ones!! B&q let us down on nail length 😂 Haha! He gives it a good old go though! Thank you!

    Sorry Bexs but Humphrey is quite possibly the scariest thing I have ever seen. For the love of sweet baby Jesus someone pass me my shotgun and a full box of cartridges. And a wood chipper. And a can of petrol and a match.

    you do a lot of tossing in your videos, sorry guys it so painful to watch you guys on the flooring some advice drill a small pilot hole in the tongue to make nailing much easier and stops wood splitting, I would have gladly come to you and done the floor for free would have taken about 3 hours max but you are there and I am here Bulgaria time served carpeter & joiner with 30 years under my belt, it's crazy you guys are moared up near where I used to live before leaving the UK many years ago old youtube name (keltic nomad)

      Haha!! Very true!!! Thanks for the advise, I guess we all have to start somewhere!!! Sorry it's so painful to watch!! Yes someone else has said this too. I didn't realise that was the technique to use. I did manage to get into a good rhythm with the nailing and so didn't end up having too many problems after the first few goes, but Chris bless him struggled a bit. Luckily he is an excellent glue spreader! Il definitely remember your tips for the future thank you. Oh wow so I guess you'll recognize the surroundings then! Sending good wishes over to you in Bulgaria ✌️

    Why Are you using such long nails?

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We had two packs of nails one that initially seemed a bit too short and the other a bit too long! B&Q had no other option! Fortunately I managed to get into a good rhythm with the shorter nails in the end. Poor Chris struggled a bit so resumed his excellent gluing service for me!!
