This whole damn album has a special place in my heart. What a gem. Her vocal delivery, the songwriting, production, mesh of styles. Eccentric and genuine.
She's a musical pop/alternative legend in my book. Yes she fell of at some point but musical careers do have a timeline. Your best work will always vary across time. This is definitely one of her greatest songs of all time though.
Chantale Johnson Exactly. That's why I like her too. Her music is always so fresh. Can't wait to see what she does after her amazing The Spirit Indestructible (which I loved, loved, loved).
Charles Jones Ummm... Her first album was pop, maybe a bit more eclectic or alternative, but still pop. So she didn't completely turned pop, she was always pop. She has said herself that she faced criticism when she started her career from people who apparently knew her before she hit it big, but that she always wanted to be, and considers herself, a pop singer. I have to agree she's one of the best.

Dannie Jensen most probably don't know it exists. I remember having to stalk Much Music (Canadian music channel I randomly got) for a few weeks just to see this for the first time.
Her best album. Just noticed that the video is going viral after 7 years. I think this song makes people realize what hip-hop and music should be. Something went wrong in the 2000's after this.
This is good but should definitely stay in the past lol. Very cheesy, sounds like some Craig David type of thing and the video does it no favours either. And I agree music is worse nowadays, but from the latter parts of the noughties until 2010 it was still dope. Maybe in future we’ll soften our view on music from nowadays, but for me with the exception of a few songs it’s not been very good from 2010 to 2018 on a mainstream level. Obviously good albums and artists though, just not really mainstream.
I REMEMBER THE DAYS WHEN I WAS listening to this song back on 2001 and I don't understand English. Today it is 2017 and I understand English and I love this song even more. Respect from 🇴🇲 Oman. If you read this comment it means you and me are having same taste in music 🎶

But from your mouth I have seen a lot of burning
But underneath I think it's a lot of yearning
Your face, the colors change from green to yellow
To the point where you can't even say hello
You tell me you'd kill me if I ever snob you out
Like that's what you'd expect from me, like that's what I'm about
I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you
And be less then I was just to prove I could walk beside you
Now that I've flown away I see you've chosen to stay behind me
And still you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself
It's so much easier to stay down there guaranteeing you're cool
Than to sit up here exposing myself trying to break through
Than to burn in the spotlight, open fire, turn in the spitfire, open fire
Scream without making a sound, open fire, be up here without looking down, open fire
Oh afraid of heights
I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you
And be less then I was just to prove I could walk beside you
Now that I've flown away I see you've chosen to stay behind me
And still you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself
Myself, myself
Myself, myself
Now you're feeling me, and now you're feeling me
Myself, myself
Now you're feeling me, now you're feeling me now
Why ya hurt me hurt me hurt me hurt me hurt me hurt me so so,
Myself, myself
Leave me down down down down low leave me
Myself, myself
Down da down down da down da down down down
Myself, myself
Shit on the radio, shit on the radio, shit on the radio,
Myself, myself
Shit on the radio, shit on the radio, shit on the radio,
Shit on the radio
Thanks you
Thanks x 2

Such a nice song.. anyone 2020?
I don’t think I know an artist who is so liked by EVERYONE, she has so many genres!

You liked me 'til you heard my shit on the radio
Well, I hate to say but pop ain't going solo
You liked me 'til you heard my shit on the radio
But now I'm just too mainstream for you, oh no
You liked me 'til you seen me on your TV
Well, if you're so low below then why you watching
You say good things come to those who wait
I've been waiting a long time for it
I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you
Be less than I was just to prove I could walk beside you
Now that I've flown away, I see you've chosen to stay behind me
Still, you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself
You say your quest is to bring it higher
Well, I never seen change without a fire
But from your mouth, I seen a lot of burning
But underneath I think it's a lot of yearning
Your face, the colours change from green to yellow
To the point where you can't even say hello
You tell me you'd kill me if I ever snob you out
Like that's what you'd expect from me, like that's what I'm about

And still you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself
It's so much easier to stay down there guaranteeing you're cool
Than to sit up here exposing myself trying to break through
Than to burn in the spotlight (open fire)
Turn in the spitfire (open fire)
Scream without making a sound (open fire)
Be up here without looking down (open fire)
Because we're all afraid of heights (bang, bang)
I remember the days when I was so eager to satisfy you
And be less than I was just to prove I could walk beside you
Now that I've flown away, I see you've chosen to stay behind me
And now you curse the day I decided to stay true to myself
Myself
Myself
Myself
Myself (now you're feeling me)
Myself (and now you're feeling me)
Myself (now you're feeling me)
Myself (why you gotta be so mean?)
Myself (why ya hurt me, hurt me, hurt me, hurt me
Myself (hurt me, hurt me, hurt me so?)
Myself (leave me down, down, down, down low)
Myself (da down, down, da down, da down, down, down)
Myself (now, I'm comin' at you on the radio tonight 'cause)
Myself (I like my shit really loud and clear over the radio)

All these years I thought I just like this song as a child, but now, I realized it was talking to me, I did not even understand the language nor spoke it at that time. Thanks Nelly, I did stay true to myself!!
well said
early 2000s that was the times! vibe of 90s was still in the air. actually 90s have ended in 2003-2004.
Yes, the sentiments of the 90's bleeded into the 2000's , just like the 80's did until 94'. I would say as far as into 2005....
Exactly those years...
Agree!
im say 2009
Absolutely
No quería escribir esto pero., Enero 2020 escuchando a Nelly 😉
Yeeeeees!!
Marzo 2020 Escuchando Nelly Furtado jejejeje

Yes we all old 👵🏽👴🏽👵🏼👴🏼👵🏾👴🏾👵🏿👴🏿👵🏻👴🏻👵👴
If you listen to these songs in December 2021, you are still a super fan of those old songs...(Old is gold) 😎🤘
This song is very true. Most people like a singer/songwriter....until they hear it on the radio. Then all of a sudden people claim that person is suddenly "selling out".
She said it best back then, The days when ish on the radio was actually good....Oh those were the days.
Excelente artista Canadiense cómo Céline Dion, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette, y muchas otras de esta linda tierra
Canadá tem bons artistas!!!!!

WOAO I mean what a lyrics!!! C´mon so way ahead of its time!! :P
awesome lyrics, great piece of pop
Thank u for the lyrics !
Miss this kind of music, her voice and vibe, priceless.
I'm Like A Bird almost turned me off to her (I love it now, though), Turn Off The Light changed my mind entirely, but this song sealed my fate as a lifelong fan. Love you to the moon and back, Nelly. You made so much of my teenage and college years great. 💛
The fact that this video only has 4 million views is a goddamn travesty!
Dannie Jensen most probably don't know it exists. I remember having to stalk Much Music (Canadian music channel I randomly got) for a few weeks just to see this for the first time.
Dannie Jensen 3
Her best album. Just noticed that the video is going viral after 7 years. I think this song makes people realize what hip-hop and music should be. Something went wrong in the 2000's after this.
I was listening to her when I was like 15
Sorry hip hop should not be like this.
Hecomesquickly7 Lets start with it being about young people with something new to say and play. Doesn't happen these days in mainstream hip-hop.
...what wrong went was ma self and the d.j.,she ' quıeted the job and ı stoped to lısten to the radıo..don't be sad we ınternet now...
I remember when I was a girl I used to love this song even when I didn’t understand any word ❤
hoy día me dio ganas de escuchar esta canción
+Daniel Martinez - Pues con la basura que hay hoy dia quien no!!!
