Hey 👋🏽 You actually can change the Rhythm of the Arpeggiator in ableton! It just work a Bit different! U Need to use „Grooves“ which can change the rythm drastically Try it 😌😁
I’ve watched ur video on this device myself, but I’m on an old versioning reason I got nearly 20 years ago so I don’t have it lol. The video did teach a lot & inspire me to make a few different nice arpeggios. I’m gonna get this vst. Fugue machine on iOS is a good tool too. I use it in Korg Gadget.
I'm not getting the option in the drop-down menu for Reason Rack Plugin. Can't get this to work. I'm running Ableton 11 Suite and Reason 12 on new MacBook Max M1 computer. Is that the problem?
I know, it's very hard to believe the Ableton hasn't updated their arp since......they first came out with it. Crazy. I bet they could come up with something much better pretty easily.
Loved your videos before the Reason content, now I genuinely look forward to it coming out. Your style is so easy to follow and you give just enough technical info to understand but not confuse. Keep up the good work it is so appreciated.
I love Philip Glass. I met him during the Einstein on the Beach world tour. He's a very gentle thoughtful man. Please produce more Philip Glass arpeggio analysis please!
As a Reason user and a fan of your channel, this content containing Reason is very inspiring Oscar. I would love to see you create some 140bpm hard Techno like Paula Temple/SNTS etc using the Reason rack plugin. Keep up the great work :)
Excellent video again ! You make the music more accessible with you video. A great source of inspiration as usual. Love you channel. Reason + Ableton are really a monster combo.
Arps plus multiple delay and reverb are like peaches and cream. I realised Ableton's arp was a bit limited a while ago and bought Kirnu - Cream. I was left scratching my head how to get it to work. This video has probably pointed me in the right direction.
Dear Oscar! Wow… I watched the movie Koyaanisqatsi lightyears ago, and I loved it a lot…!! Weird and inspiring movie…! Great stuff! Same as your awesome tutorials! Love your relaxed, humble and competent style to explain complex things. Frankly speaking, I do not understand a lot of things you say, but it is so nice to listen and watch a master of music production… made me start playing around in Ableton and try out what you teach! Thank you so much!! One day I wanna book a course with you! Please keep up your great work and stay true to your values! All the best! Cheers Jan 😊🙏
Oscar, first love your stuff and just studying your course, which I just bought and loving it! 8 hour industrial techno - this series using Reason Rack Plugin is genius and breathing life into my dogged commitment to loving Reason Rack, but Ableton Live 11's feel - keep them coming
You’re the reason I get excited about going back to my laptop and work on my stuff Gets frustrating to learn ableton but there’s so much dope shit u can do with it Thank u heapsss!
Great videos Oscar! I’m in the very very begging of learning, yet your techniques help so much to make my tracks sound like I might know a thing or two:)) also love how simple you make the explanation and a level of creativity in all of the thing you make! Thank you!
when I saw the shirt I had to randomly think of this track :) : Spock Jr - Ion (Acid Alien) Sounds so rugged today but so dark and driving for the time Great videos btw.. Even though I know the production side pretty well at this point I always love watching you break things down and often it helps me reconsider my arrangement and/or give me new ideas after getting stuck in the rut. So... Thank you! :)
Oscar, this was SO MUCH FUN to watch and to solve the riddles. For the second one I was on the track to Interstellar (Hans Zimmer) With this video you made yourself an entry in the »Hall of Fame« of music education videos on TH-cam. 💖😃👍 All the best, Henrik
Thanks Oscar - got Koyannisqatsi with the Chord Progression! Just updated my old Reason Licesnse to Version 12 with the Dual Arp - it's really an amazing world. I started with Reason in 2005 and then skipped it for Ableton Live for Live Music. But the Combinators and other tools are really powerful. Used Europa as a VST before - also an amazing synth!
Always loved ableton’s arpeggiator tool but i felt that it was lacking something to give it more natural, less robotic feel. This is it! Thank you for this
QUALITY !!!!! ive used the Arp in my Reason 10 but never really as straight forward as that..... I guess i wasnt fully aware of what the device was reacting to DURRRR...But you just made it clear...Thanks for that...Marvellous !!!!
Thanks Oscar, great stuff as always. I wanted to thank you for not only the great EM content, but also the time you put into your video production. As a content producer outside YT, I appreciate the time and effort that goes into all the "little things" you include in your vids. If I can offer a humble suggestion....limit your zoom cuts to places where you REALLY want to add some emphasis. Needless framing changes distract the viewer and take away from the times when you want to make a point. Your production quality and content stand on their own so no need to bump it. Thanks again, you've taught me and many others a ton.
Hey, i would love to see you doing something like this for Cthulhu. I think it's a powerful tool but i only use it for chord progression and there arent that many good guides for the arpeggiator part. Thank you for the videos, they're always so helpful 😊
Spent the afternoon banging my head on this one. Important steps missed out so use this: Create midi track and add notes, use any sound to test. Add reason arp to track Create new midi track, add your preferred sound Select input from first midi track and reason rack plugin as per the video Select IN Play. The midi info has to be in the same track as the arp or it will not have anything to play. You can "call" the same arp track multiple times using different sounds if required.
Yeah, I cannot get this working. No sound is coming out despite the Reason Arp track having a chord progression. I have done every step, and I can see that the arpeggiator is working as it has recorded midi in arpeggiated form, but there is no volume coming out when I hit play. Weird. Update: Sorted. Yeah, imnportant steps missed out. Glad I got it working though by fiddling around and not giving up.
Hello I have been stuck for a while!!! This is what I did 1. Added a Midi track and added some chords into it 2. Made a new midi track and added the Reason Rack Plugin 3. Added another midi track - set midi from 'Reason Arp' and 'Reason Rack Plugin' - set monitor to 'In' 4. Copied the clip (containing the chords) from the first midi track to the second midi track I see 2 visible differences between his and mine: a) my third track (the one he labelled 'Ableton instruments' ) has a mixer section which is a column of circles whereas his looks like the normal one. b) again for the third track, his one says "audio to" whereas my one says "midi to" - I also see his selection under audio to is set to "Master" which is not an available selection for mine Thanks!
I am trying to make an Hardware Jam with Arpeggios from the Arpeggiator. I very like Arpeggios. Arpeggios haves very cool effects when you play notes in an scale you want. And during the Jamsession ist this great when you play Arpeggiosnotes longer
Great video as always Oscar. Reason & Live is a great combo but don't discount Live's arpeggiator. You can chain several Live Arpeggiator plugs at different values (different styles, different rates etc) and then automate the gate on each (or throw the Ableton LFO plugin(s) and use that to automate the gate of each plug...and anything else for that matter) Can take you really far and can be a happy accident type scenario
Ladies and gentlemen, the reverend Oscar presiding the marriage of Ableton and Reason in holy matrimony, a most beautiful union and another inspiring moment from Underdog EMS. Oh, the honeymoon.
@@OscarUnderdog I maintain that an artist is not the best judge of her/his work. Excepting that you showed a momentary embarrassment at what you had done, it was totally convincing and like many a happy accident, finding the satanic where there really wasn't any, you have yourself a whole new genre. 🤩
I was hoping for a video that didn't require me spending another $600+. Keep up the great work, but sadly this video can't work for my financially strapped self, at the moment

Ableton’s stock arpeggiator is actually very powerful if you modulate it’s parameters and… if you use multiples instances on the same midi tracks :)
Man that is a very clever arpeggiator indeed, thx for the philip glass vibe btw
