Jon Pertwee got half an episode chasing after a baddie in all kinds of clever vehicles. Tom Baker gets 3 minutes running away from a sphere on a bicycle.
I bought my eldest son the steel book version for his 30th birthday. Cambridge is an interesting place, I recognised a lot of the locations. I lived there twice, mid 70's and mid 80's. The 80's Cambridge was definitely better than the 70's, more life and they stopped turning off the residential street lights at 10pm. I could get home without the use of a torch when working at the Regal cinema.
It's kinda weird looking at this scene with a completely different musical score. I quite like the theme they did for the full restored version in any case.
The VHS edition had lots of background material and a complete copy of the script. Unless the DVD version comes with the script, it's not a real release... ...pleasepleaseprettyplease?!
The shopper at 2:21 didn't have a clue what was going on. Probably thought, Who's that, Gareth Hunt? ;) Hope granny at 2:37 was in on it though, bless 'er
The 6-episode Doctor Who story Shada that didn't air long ago because of a strike at the BBC was the last time Douglas Adams wrote anything for Doctor Who.
Plot hole introduced retroactively: The 9th doctor reveals that there is a setting on his sonic screwdriver that repairs barbed wire. Surely then there is a setting that severs barbed wire, as well as one for chain link, and the 4th could have used it to escape.
anony mous considering that was something introduced in the new series it’s possible that he hadn’t added that setting yet. The sonic hadn’t become a magic wand at this point
@@eyebrowman1 I only saw this video once five years ago, so I don't remember anything about it. To answer your question, I'd have to watch the video again which, given my comment, I'm not tempted to do.
Since this story was never completed I think it might be cool if they incorporated this story into 'Nu Who'.Perhaps as part of the upcoming series 11 or at some other point in the future.
Lol,I would love to see 'Shada' done properly and completely as a televised DW story not just in audio or animated form. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Acapella singers whilst the doctor on a bike is being chased by sphere that wants to absorb his mind...
YEP definitely written by Douglas Adams
Actually the acapella singers were actually a last-minute idea on location.

He didn't even get that properly
What was a Sphere doing on a bicycle.?
It borrowed it from the fish.
@@ListerDavid Why is a mouse when it spins? Never did know the answer to that one...
I'm surprised they didn't use the clip of the Doctor running in the Five Doctors for the timescoop scene, although the punt part was probably better.
*NO CYCLING*
“I beg your pardon.”
the soundtrack is what (almost) makes this version better than the 2017 ver
Rewatching this as an adult, I'm starting to think that this was very, very close to being _the_ best serial in Tom Baker's era . . .
The best definitely goes to Genesis though, I think.
Plot twist the book that falls out of the doctors bike is really the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy!
Haha
Page 42 is particularly interesting!!
BRILLIANT.

The Regal is now a pub but they have retained 2 screens, I miss Cambridge.
That bridge is great for watching American college students trying to punt and falling into the Cam.
Such a shame this never got fully made - I do hope the rumours of a full animated version turn out to be true.
I highly recommend the Gareth Roberts novelisation. Brilliantly written.
Wait what!? First I've heard of it! Any links?
No wonder I couldn't find the scene after the doctor boards the spaceship in shada
Why wasn't this episode completed
BBC strikes during production
>sphere moving towards him
>rides towards it anyways as the sphere conveniently jerks away from him ducking
XDD
the greatest chase scene in all of cinema
What might have been if they’d only pick up after that bloody strike 🤬😡🤬
Fourth Doctor + Keff McCulloch = I was expecting a 7th Doctor crossover...
"Well I'm the Doctor and you can't have it."

Here’s that theme I love to hear again 2:40
The 6-episode Doctor Who story Shada that didn't air long ago because of a strike at the BBC was the last time Douglas Adams wrote anything for Doctor Who.
VHS looks clean as a daisy by today’s standards.
Is that Rover from The Prisoner?
The Doctor was Number 1 all along :)
2:37 Was that intended to be funny? :-)
What do you mean intended? The British humor is like that all the time, have you not seen Monty Python?
We British love laughing at misery. That's why Peep show and the inbetweeners were popular
Well it got a chuckle from me
Bet you the guy just tripped so they added that in for fun.
You were knocked down by a flying football? Why didn't you just head it in for a goal???
I think that I prefer this version of the cliffhanger, rather than the new one.
The film quality is unusually easy on the eye for saying it's not been upscaled etc .
Argh that incidental music 😭
Off he goes, peddling down the street at high speeds of God knows how fast!
Good that it's finally complete though!
I watch The Episode on dvd like months ago so Yeah I like This
Love this story
I was found the cliffhangers in classic who really tedious
I mean a couple of times that’s cool
Every 20 minutes there has to be a cliffhanger
Ffs
I only know the book version until now. I need to get the new complete version on DVD.
I'd swear this was filmed in Aberystwyth in Wales
Nah it was filmed in Cambridge
I have this episodes book, it's awesome
But you _can’t_ have it, the Doctor said so!
2:06 😂

He just designed that setting later.
The sonic screwdriver wasn't fitted with all its modern bells and whistles until the time war
That was the longest 3.5 minutes of my life.
Y watch it then?
@@eyebrowman1 What? Do you think that I have ESP or something?
@@r0bw00d if you're a Doctor Who fan how can 3.5 mins be arduous to watch?

Yeah, this score really wasn't Keff McCulloch's best work.
Even this ain’t exactly finished. Why was this not finished again?
I think there was a big strike
a Big Strike over the Play School clock of all things.
The Restoration of Dr Who there was a strike at the BBC studios and they couldn’t complete studio filming as a result
I love how it ends on a cliff hanger.
