Nice Orange! I picked up the 3rd gen in mint condition in a secondhand store in Japan for a great price. And just recently added the SRPD25 blue dial/black bezel to the collection. That PADI version really pops! Thanks Marc!
Series II - never really improved on. Love the padi colourway. Doesn't need that candy bar. Thanks Marc. Another great Seiko review. Hang on another 5, yeah that's different, aged really well better than the metal G Shock.
Hiya,do they offer a quartz version? Not everyone is on side with autos as a beater watch.? Tag Heuer do understand.Seiko invented quartz and indeed have the 9 f movement but insist on casing autos in otherwise very cool watches. Scratching head moment? Cheers,Len.
People don't want quartz watches. You're in a very small minority that makes me scratch my head. Buying a tag quartz watch is one of the worst ways to spend money. They're absolutely trash.
I have the original monster 4th gen with the black bezel and dark blue dial. I wear the sht out of it. It goes amazing with anything but a tuxedo. I have slender 6.25'' wrists (smaller than Mark's 6 3/4'') but I'm muscular so it doesn't matter. I never want to take it off and I've asked several friends if it looks too big on my wrists and they all say it doesn't stand out because of my muscular build. They all say it looks badass. If you have big wrists or are a buff guy this is a wonderful every day watch. IMO it looks badass with small wrists, too. The leather bracelet Mark is wearing in front of the watch gives it a nice taper.
I have this Padi Monster, a Save the Ocean Monster and now need Seiko to release a Black Series Monster with their lovely green lumibrite. Pleeese, Seiko !!!!!
I am so happy that I picked up the last generation jade monster. Not a fan of the new case and the coated bezel. Now, the pre-aged 5KX is certainly a surprise. Notice how the edges of the lumeplots somehow fade to grey? Wonder how they did that. I won't be buying this one, but the fact they released something like this tells me that Seiko is willing to go all in, is willing to test out designs that are far out there. Maybe one of their next experimental designs will hit the nail on its head for me.
Hi Marc! When I visitied your website I got a message for a 5% off. The pop up message came with a beautiful watch in a leather brown strap and with snakes (maybe octopuses) in the case. But I couldn't figure out the reference number. Do you know what is that watch?
Not been a fan of the Monster but this PADI one is really nice, I may have to get one when it's released. I see from the video that the one you have on demo is made in Japan, do you know if they're all gonna be made in Japan version when you stock them?
The look of the 5's dial resembles a "sliced and etched meteorite". Although it is done with texture ...very cool and on my get it list. Type " Etched Meteorite slice " in the TH-cam search bar (not my content). I think that is the look they were going for and it worked!
@Karim Manassa No one can answer that as the accuracy will be different with different watches and models, even though the watches will have the same movement, they do vary quite a bit. I have this movement in different models and the worst was my Spinnaker Dumas that is losing approximately 23.5 seconds per day. The best performing is my Seiko (Padi) Turtle that is approximately less than + or - 0.3 seconds per day. What I found unusual was that it kept a far better accuracy when worn 24 hours a day. However I have another Seiko (King) Turtle that loses approximately 17.2 seconds a day. You could always regulate your watch to improve the accuracy.
There are plenty of videos on removing fisheyes. All involve heating the adhesive, carefully scraping it off with a straight edge, then dissolving the residue with GooGone (or similar) and polishing. Not difficult, I've done it.
Good video as usual Marc. I have the 3rd Gen green monster with the 6r15 movement. I’m surprised that Seiko decided to go with the 4r36? The modified case design will be easier to clean. Although this version is good looking it has lost some of the distinct love it or hate it characteristics. Thanks again. Kudos to NYS Re: Covid. Stay Safe.
That PADI-edition looks pretty amazing. If only they'd put a decent clasp on it - at $500+, that's not too much to ask, is it? :D I wonder if I can pull off that Monster on my 17cm/6.8 in wrist ... It looks quite chunky in the video ...
The PADI association and obvious professional endorsement is very smart Marketing by Seiko, because it provides "Street Cred". It also looks "Cool" which will increase its acceptance. Like it. Phil.
Like when your best buddy tells you “bro, look what I’ve just bought, isn’t it amazing? you should buy one as well!!”. You don’t even realize that he is trying to sell you something, yeah, that’s Marc the CEO from LIW.
In the art and design world we'd call the texture on the grey Sport Diver "hatched" or "hatching." If the hatch strokes overlapped each other perpendicularly it would be "cross hatched" or "cross hatching." Example: The dial sports a hatched texture. The hatching on the dial creates texture.
My gripe with seiko is that it doesn't make smaller versions of their watches. Take the SRPE79 as an example. Imagine the same watch but on a 38/39mm case. Lots of people with small wrists will be happy with a smaller version.
Crystal upgrade to lose the cyclops and we have a winner! 😁Some of the nicest dials came with the Gen three Monsters and for some strange reason they introduced the cyclops to obscure them. Fortunately they were date only. Cyclops on a day/date is unforgivable. 🤣
I don't really like diver watches, they are not my thing, but this PADI Monster is the only diver i ever 'wanted to have'. It looks quite different from all the classic divers (Submariners and Black Bays and SKXs and whatnot), but it's still unmistakably one. I still wouldn't know what to do with it, when and how to wear it etc..., but that pretty blue tone and the silver of the steel case match so well, and the splash of red is just the icing on the cake. I don't like the cyclops on any watch so i'd probably change the crystal or chip the cyclops off. Can you do that, without damaging the crystal in the process, anybody?
I wish Seiko would permanently transfer the Prospex logo directly underneath the Seiko logo the way they do it in these PADI editions. It makes the watches look more symetrical.
There's a trade off of durability with the sapphire. The sports watches are more likely to be used during physical activity so it doesn't make as much sense to increase the price of the watch and increase the risk of cracking/shattering the sapphire. @@islandwatch Many watches would look better without a date, The Monster would be one of them. I don't think the cyclops is ugly, and actually would be useful to me. People don't complain of Rolex does it, and complain if they don't. Still each to their own opinion.

But, and thats the only thing to complain, the bracelett ist not the quality that bracelett on my Gen. 1 monster does have. Its not that solid, its thiner and it rattles more than the old Monster bracelett do. Its an downgrade and makes the whole watch feeling cheap, not as solid as a rock as Monsters should do. And, Seiko, its a shame not to use a hardlex criystal on a watch in that price range. Orient uses sapphire on 200 Dollar watches, on the Kamasu for example.
So glad I got in on the first batch of PADI Monsters. It's a beauty. Thanks, Marc.

Glad you like them!
That Seiko 5 is the star of the show, great looking watch.
Glad you think so.
The Monster...Yes, please. The 5...I am not yet sold.
Nice looking watches. Thanks for showing them. For the SRPE79 I’d love to see a complimentary mesh bracelet. That would be killer.
Yeah. It would. Good call
I miss the shark teeth indices on the new monsters, but that is a beautiful watch
Crosshatch dial?, bezel looks gorgeous!
Yeah, thanks!
That blue bezel is awesome! Thanks for the overview :)
Hello, Is there any advantage of padi over the standart prospex seiko divers about diving specifications? or this padi logo is all about advertising?
The way you sang .. "long Island watch.com" .... Is that gonna be your new intro theme ???
Excitement gets the best of me.
Just got mine today. Its amazing..
That monster is a great looking watch

1st and second generation monsters were the best. The second gen orange monster being the one I own and my personal favorite.
