    I’ve got the 2018 HGW Tour Manual 6 speed and the sounds are normal even after 15,000 plus she sounds and performs the same as the day I drove her off the showroom floor, that noise is how the manual sounds and the bike is still quieter than most others, I love that I can listen to my music talk on the phone and not worry about losing my hearing. With maturity comes peace and I’ve learned to enjoy less noise, that makes driving the HGW very peaceful....I wouldn’t ride any other motorcycle on the market I’m very satisfied and comfortable in every way.

      Completely agree. I am accustomed to the sound now and even enjoy it too. Had been riding Harleys for a long time so I think my ears and brain took a while to adjust to the new tones, but they did just that.

    I have the same bike, except mine is the DCT Automatic, with just under 1000 miles on it today. Bought new (2018 leftover) 5 weeks ago. The shift noise (clank) you get as yours sets into each gear, I dont get, but I think that is a difference in the 2 normally. As for the exhaust drone, your bike sounds just like my bike. Todays high temp here in Indianapolis was 44*F, and I hadnt rode mine in a week. I too love riding this bike, no other bike can draw my attention the way this bike does. Big trips planned for the summer ahead. Starting a new TH-cam channel to share my bike adventures on - Wingin' it with John. Not much content on there yet, but soon...
    Thanks for posting.

    I own a 1985 GL1200 and I get those same klunks on gear shifts and that same drone/turbine engine sound

    I own a 2018 Gold Wing 6-speed with over 14k miles on it now....your bike sounds normal. I think the new 6-speed transmission with the slipper clutch is the best Honda transmission Ive ever ridden...definitely the best manual transmission ever in a Gold Wing

    • @goldwingman7887
      @goldwingman7887  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! What is a slipper clutch?

    • @frankward8003
      @frankward8003 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@goldwingman7887 A slipper clutch allows the clutch to slip just a bit when downshifting at speed to allow the rear wheel to maintain traction and it provides smoother power delivery while shifting....which gives the bike a more refined feel compared to the old 5-speed model Gold Wing...slipper clutches have been used in sportbikes for years and the slipper clutch was a very nice upgrade with the 2018 Gold Wings 6-speed transmission

      @Frank Ward... On your 6 speed, does it seem like your gear box makes a lot of noise while sitting idling at a stop or red light? I get lots of vibration when idling and noise from the gear box... Once I take off, and shift through gears, it's as smooth as butter... Why all the noise when stopped? 🤔 🤔 Honda dealer is trying to say it is normal... I understand a little bit... But seems excessive to me... I really think there is something very wrong on this particular bike I own... And I only have 297 miles on it...!!

      @@drmdtodd my bike does not make any noise from the transmission area of the engine while stopped and idling...no vibration either

    Nice video, nice bike., and from what I’ve seen and heard, I don’t think you have any problems with your bike/noise! There are many videos here on TH-cam, showing different types of Honda GoldWings - newer ones and older ones. You can ask/text those owners any concerns you may have! 👍

    Thanks for the video, sir. I think after riding one and watching several videos about them, I will trade my Harley in on one of these...seems like such a better bike. Thanks again--liked and subbed!

    I think it is your just not used to the noises yet. My 2019 make very similar noises. The shaft drive, new motor and quite exhaust make it seem loud. I find mine gets the same droning noise around 45-50 mph. I've not had it up faster than that yet so I'm not sure if it goes away at higher speeds.
    Your bike looks fantastic. How are you handling the large change in control location?

    • @goldwingman7887
      @goldwingman7887  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks James, I think you are spot on. The only control I am having trouble with is the gear lever. It is too short and squashy so I have to extend my foot considerably to get it under the lever, so much so I have to wear my smaller boots. But this could be because I am not used to having to extend my foot so much or I may need to have the gear lever adjusted.

      PS. I am used to the gear lever now too. Just had to adjust from Harley which has more space.

      You have a brand new 6 cylinder gold wing and you haven't had it above 45 or 50 yet?😅

    FYI some helmets may amplify the drone sound due to a resonance effect.
    I switched from Schuberth C4 to LS2 Valiant (both modular) and the drone sound is just gone.

    • @goldwingman7887
      @goldwingman7887  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. My next helmet will be sound proof. While I am getting used to the drone I think for me a sound proof helmet, at least one that blocks the drone like you say, makes sense. Thanks.

      Will do but some helmets will block the sound. Not my cheap one though. All sports bikes drone even yourGoldwing, or they would not be a sports bike. My question really is whether my bike drones louder than normal. Next helmet I get will be sound proof.

    I'm very sorry to say that I believe your Goldwing is defective. I have a solution for it. You need to bring it to my house and I will repair it and bring it back to you in a few years.

    I feel like the manual would be faster than the DCT

    The so called "Drone" you hear is how a precision machine like the Gold Wing is supposed to sound. I think of it as a nice hum of a precision instrument. All Harley Riders have that complaint. You are just used to hearing that loud "Blat Blat" sound of a Harley. I never did like the way a Harley sounded it gave me a headache. I have some friends who have told me that it has affected their hearing but they tell me they still love Harley. Go figure!

    You give the impression of being a very inexperienced motorcyclist.you are going around roundabouts in first gear and staying first down the next street,a dct would be in fourth gear. it’s a six cylinder bike so change up and make it pull. other ex-Harley riders make the same mistake cruising at high revs in a low gear, When changing down you’re not matching revs with road speed hence the clunk.Move the lever with the blip not one second later.Please don’t compare a wing gear change with a harley !! At the moment you’re making the manual look bad but you will get used to it,Good luck and enjoy. Richard Cottingham .UK.

      Yes I am a very inexperienced experienced rider. I like to play it safe. I want to get an automatic so I do not need to bother with gear changes. I find with the manual Goldwing it simply does not like low revs, but it loves high revs (its like a sports bike). If the revs are low that is when I have gear change problems. I know this because I have tried high and low rev gear changes and high work the best. Not sure if you have GL1800 rider experience with the manual version? I can do smooth gear changes now at high and low revs but I still find the Goldwing manual gear box to be fussy, at least compared to a Harley gearbox where I never had to be so precise with gear changes. Not sure how you expect me to zoom around a round-a-bout doing high revs, I would be doing around 80km hour in second gear which would be fatal in a round-about. If you mean low revs in second gear that still puts me at 60km per hour in a round-a-bout. You cannot compare a DCT with a manual, they are completely different. Thanks for the well wishes, yes I still love the bike (but would much prefer an automatic - which I may get one day).
