I love how Furukawa also casually announced the next Nintendo Direct
Yeah , like as if he knows us personally lol
You’re expecting to much. We will get some games and maybe a switch online expansion and that’s it. The good stuff will be preserved for switch 2
Switch 2 end of 2025
@@1995krampeOk? It's still a direct Lmao. He didn't say he had hight expectations. But a localized Yo-Kai Watch 4 would be Nice.
@@1995krampe I’m thinking Metroid prime 4 will be there. That’d probably be the last big game for the switch. And before anyone says that they’d save it for the switch 2. It’d be a bullet in the head for a franchise that doesn’t sell very well to begin with to have to sell on a console starting from zero rather than having over 100 million units already in peoples hands. It’d be a very bad decision
As someone who grew up in a different era, I'd love if they'd call it the "Super Switch" as a nod to the "Super Nintendo."
I would love a Super Switch 😁
As cool as that would be, I don't think Switch should be in the name at all. We don't want another Wii U situation. 🫠
Super Nintendo Switch
@@Merz0r I think that the concern is somewhat misguided considering the inspiration would be from the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Also there's the DS but also the 3DS and 2DS which worked out well.
The major difference too is that the Switch is actually a pretty good console, so it would be hard to fumble a successor console.
Stupid names like Super Switch will result in another WiiU.
The announcement of an announcement
Lmao.
Waiting for the announcement of the trailer that announces when the announcement trailer will be announced.
Announcementception
There were rumours that there was a rumour but that was just nonsense.
Worked great with gta 6's announcement
It’s 4:00am.
Fuck yeah

2 am for me, heck yeah
for alex it was about 9am

go back to sleep, the day hasn't started yet.
Trailer in October and launch in March is feasible. That's how they did it with the original Switch!
They did that with the Switch because nobody was buying the Wii U anymore, they would be crazy to miss on another Christmas with good Switch sales by announcing the successor just before it.
April. They previously said no new hardware this fiscal year.
@@GreaterPhenom they'd be crazy not to keep selling people the current switch this Christmas. People are still buying it.
@@GreaterPhenomidk tho. Holiday release is really chaotic. They have a bunch of competition during that time. So I would think they would want to do it either a bit earlier or later
Exactly…
(A handful of people, on a leaky boat, are gonna save the world…)
When they say "this fiscal year" they always mean between Jan and March next year. They say "this year" when they mean this year.
"This fiscal year" ends in september
Fiscal year is from March 31st to March 31st. So it's until March 31st 2025@@shanegale6143
@@shanegale6143you're mistaken. Their fiscal year ends March 2025
@@shanegale6143you just made that up LOL

I'm just happy someone official said something. The rumours and uncertainty were getting to me
I'm so happy that finally Switch 2 is confirmed, hype for the next Nintendo console is big
8 years of mobile technologies gap are so massive. Can't brain what Nintendo can do with a Switch 2 than the 2015 Switch technologies. DLSS alone is massive
Watch it be the exact same thing as a OLED just new shell
@Hazeman. Fr I hope it's sth groundbreaking in the gaming industry not just some upgraded switch
@@OmEn2. Rest assured. Switch 2 customised SOC vs Switch non customised SOC alone vastly different significantly
I hope Nintendo Switch Online, being a paid service, allows Nintendo to keep it around longer. I don't want the Switch online and eShop to get casually cast aside in 5 years the way the 3DS/Wii/U eShops did. As long as people are subscribing, they'll want to let people keep paying... right?
Would also be really nice if the service was cross-gen. Would be really weird to have a new console come out and not include all the current NES/SNES/N64/GB/GBA games... right? They're not going to start the catalog over again from nothing again... right?
we can only hope.
Maybe. I would not get my hopes high though. This is Nintendo we are talking about after all.😞
This is what I've been saying/thinking. Nintendo would be crazy not to do this. I predict a joint eshop where some games are compatible on both, only few games are exclusive to the new system (but others will run better/smoother on the newer system, perhaps in better resolution like 1080p handheld and/or 4k docked if it has the same system of play-modes), and all games are clearly labeled with which console versions they run on like the current eshop with play mode icons, except including the new system and whatever playstyles it has. Having some excellent Switch 2 exclusives but keeping the eshops the same and having full backwards compatibility would keep incentive to upgrade to the new system while also making that jump so much smoother and easier because you could sell your old Switch and keep your old games on the new system, plus it would instantly give the new system a massive catalogue of available games even aside from any launch titles.
I really hope Nintendo goes down this route. It'd be cool to have some games allow a resolution increase on the new system if the developers decide to implement it too. A performance/FPS boost should be a given if all Switch titles are compatible immediately without extra dev work on all those games too. If they do everything I listed here, I'd be happy to call it the best if not one of the best console launches ever executed if the actual hardware is also up to par.
Smart move just so to *set expectations* for this upcoming June Direct (so people don't go in expecting the moon, then be disappointed and dislike the video).
Exactly, people will always make the mistake to assume the best thing will happen and then blame Nintendo for not making their exact dreams true 😂
I think you’re completely forgetting how braindead the chat is during direct. They’ll spam where’s silksong and where’s the next switch system. The ppl in chat don’t actually follow news channels
Hazard a guess it will follow the Switch's release period: official announcement by October and release by March.
Or maybe announcement by January so as not to distract from Christmas sales, especially if they have a big title saved up for the Switch's last hurrah, then release by April.
You shouldn't be amazed how long they kept the Switch going, its exactly how long they said it would be when they announced it, 7 - 10 years
Felix is Jon 2 confirmed???
Jon 2: Faster. Stronger. Danisher.
Maybe he is the "Super Jon Entertainment System"
Haha, I thought that wasn’t the best way to explain the word successor. Can be as vague as anything that comes after and replaces another thing. Two people imply it should be a similar thing, but can be anything that fills a similar role. So for products, the “Switch successor” could be board game that you buy new skins and pieces for. It could be a desktop computer tower with proprietary Nintendo software. It could be “The GameCube Yet Again.” (Wouldn’t complain lol.)
It would be an honour if he was called, "Jon U".
I love my switch but I honestly hope to see something new and fun
Yep!!!
For me it'd be ideal if it's compatible with the whole switch catalogue and shares an eshop with it. It could be one of the best and smoothest console launches ever. Give it an instant catalog of games especially if upgrading from the Switch, keeping all your old games rather than starting over from nothing. Newer customers picking up the new console after not trying Switch previously will mean even more potential sales on Switch games, let alone new shiny releases.
I think it's fair to expect the Switch 2 to be a stronger switch, perhaps more focus on the dock.
Every Nintendo console, with exception of the Virtual Boy, has always been improving on the previous gen before doing a totally new thing. Just look at NES to SNES, N64 to Gamecube, Wii to Wii U, GB/GBC to GBA, DS to 3DS.
I expect the new system to be all in all, the same system as a Switch, but better.
Yep. The model Just Works, console competitors aren't doing all that much with more advanced specs, the main pain point on Switch has been performance even on first party games so even without bridging the gap it'll be a nice breath of fresh air for everyone on the platform. Make the controls and OS feel a bit more premium, except the screen that may be re-released with OLED down the line (wish it wasn't but it's a likely sacrifice next to the overall better hardware that should justify the jump on release).
Nintendo always does two generations of the same concept: NES-SNES, N64-GC, Wii-WiiU, GB-GBA, DS-3DS. Based on that, the new console will be a straightforward update rather than doing something entirely new.
Yeah like there's always 2 instances of each Link in LoZ:
LoZ - LoZ 2, LttP - LbW, OoT - MM, Wind Waker - PH - Spiri... dammit
they did at least 3 generations of gameboy (5 if you count the pocket and micro). and i don't understand how the n64 and gamecube are the same concept. beside both being game consoles, one used cartridges and the other used discs. and the wii is literally just an overclocked gamecube with a different controller.
@@oxenford539 I guess N64 and Gamecube were both 3D gaming systems with no additional gimics? Just my guess.
Plus there was DSi which technically had a few games just for it.
Yup, Next Gen Switch still have JoyCon likes Switch. It's a new gen but use some off the same thing likes previous gen. After Next Gen Switch/Super Switch than Nintendo can abadon hybrid or joycon maybe ?
@@oxenford539 N64 and GC was in the 3D infancy generation. GC was basically a better N64 instead of completely new thing, much like SNES was a better NES.
And I'm not counting minor updates; it would be silly to consider them as generations on their own.
So a successor to the switch doesn't mean it's another switch. It can just mean it's the next console.
8 years of mobile technologies gap are so massive. Can't brain what Nintendo can do with a Switch 2 than the 2015 Switch technologies. DLSS alone is massive
Iirc, when they talked about Lite and OLED models they refered to them as "iteration" and "part of the switch family / lineup".
Switch is in the top 3 of best selling consoles of all time. Do you think Nintendo will go back to the standard stationary home console? Nah, man, hybrid is from now on. No matter what it's called, the successor of the Switch will have handheld and docked mode and most likely backwards compatibility with Switch.
@@thedonzhorzh Switch era profit already exceeding all previous Nintendo consoles & handhelds profit COMBINED.
@@thedonzhorzh indeed .Hybrid is the way. I can play FIFA on the plane.
Looking forward to the new Razer thin design and it being called the “Switch Blade”.
It seems odd to me that they would even mention it yet if they have no plans to announce it soon. They could have just not said anything about it it wouldn't change anything
It's been NINE YEARS from Switch's announcement? Damn
That's so funny, I FORGOT TO LAUGH!!!!!!! 😃
All what I want is the backward compatibility
The President of the company just tweeting "STFU We'll get to it when we get to it. Now buy our games, you shits." is the most Nintendo thing.
Man, I can't wait to get the Switch U. I hope the gamepad with this one has a longer battery life!
I think they'll announce it second half of January and release it towards the end of May
I love my current OLED Switch and have a software backlog that can run for at least two years! So either the software catalog is compatible with the new Nintendo device, in which case I'll buy one straight away when it comes out, or I'll wait buying it until I've ran out of games on this device. Which could easily take two years. I mean, these eShop sales are bonkers sometimes...
I think it’s successor will be compatible with the current switch games, especially as Nintendo knows what they have with the current switch as Nintendo has a great track record with backwards compatibility with the only exception being the Wii U and the Switch.
Good then you can wait for them to fix any issues with the next console or purchase the revised version
I don’t expect a new console before the second half of 2025 then. Anything earlier is a bonus. Plenty of games available so it’s good this isn’t rushed.
Announced or not, the Switch innards will be over 11 years old by the end of the year. Absolutely ancient SoC (CPU/GPU) and may well be the longest any console has ever lasted on a first run basis. That's bloody incredible and their gross margins must be astronomical. If it costs more than $50 to produce and package a Switch today, I'd be incredibly surprised. Very curious if this is their plan for the successor, to keep people on the same teet for another decade.
Could hear about it next march.
correct it is planned for 2026 release worldwide but nintendo will reveal the console march 2025 there is a vigeo games only direct coming next month at most we will probably hear about news of switch 2 coming around the game awrds 2024 in December not now
@@adamnewman1672bro I think the system will launch in early 2025- 💀
@@adamnewman1672 It won't release in 2026. This thing is coming out next year. Just by announcing that it exists, sales of the Switch 1 will take a hit and with their software being mostly remasters and remakes(which means their studios are moving towards the successor.) this announcement is for the shareholders that might be concerned about the company's results. They will not take kindly an entire fiscal year (March 2025 to March 2026) without new hardware to drive sales up.
@@adamnewman1672 passing off information as fact I see. There's no way the new console is releasing later than 2025
@@adamnewman1672haha.. the GOTY awards? 🤣 you almost got me there. LoL
Not to dampen the mood but, by next fiscal year is all the way until March. And they said announce, which probably is a distance away from release.
Considering it’s about 5 months from official reveal trailer to launch, it’ll be September at the latest. But I’ve got a feeling it’ll be sooner than that. Maybe summer?
My two guesses on the release window:
Either they'll unveil the system in the Fall (somewhere in September) with a plan to release during the holiday season (End November/Early December) or they'll unveil in December 2024/January 2025 with a March 2025 release to mirror the og Switch's release.
Everyone knew a Switch successor existed, Nintendo hasn't been sitting idly in Kyoto twiddling their fingers this whole time nor were they going to stop making consoles after the Switch. The real question has been WHEN. What's the release date?? From Furukawa's wording I doubt we'll get an announcement with a release date this year, particularly later in the year. There's no reason for Nintendo to cock-block the Switch's holiday season. We'll probably get a release date towards the end of this fiscal year in early 2025 which makes the most sense.
They already sold almost 2 million less in '23 holiday season compared to '22 and over 10 million less games and are already down 13% compared to '22.
I don't think it will tank that much, especially if you can play you old Switch on it.
"This is Furukawa. After we saw six other Yuzu forks springing up, we have decided to unannounce the Nintendo Switch Successor. You brought this upon yourselves. Please let the lawyer ringing at your door right now in, he's kinda thirsty after flying all the way over to you. Please stay tuned for further information"
What lol.
I'm sorry Furukawa. I'm guilty and have sinned. I accept punishment as you see fit.
Nintendo didn’t do anything wrong, Nintendo’s just protecting their IP and software, but if this was Sony, you’d give them a free pass. I see you.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 I don't give a sh*t about Sony. If anything, I'm more of a Nintendo fanboy. But still - yes, LEGALLY, Nintendo did nothing wrong. But morally and logically, their move was ass. They claimed to be fighting piracy. But from someone who as done a good bit of research about the topic, let me tell you: Taking down Yuzu emulators didn't do sh*t to combat piracy. And it also in no way or shape protected their IP and software.
Piracy can be done without Emulation. And Emulation can be done without piracy. Pirates don't need an Emulator to play their pirated games. Most of them do play them that way, but they could just as well play them on a cheap, actual Switch they bought used. And even those who do use emulators are "minorly inconvenienced" at most, by what Nintendo did to the emulators. Pirates are pirates. Them now having to pirate the emulator as well as the game will not really bother them.
What Nintendo really did was show a middlefinger to people like me. Who legitimately bought a Switch (twice, mind you) and legitimately buy all their games, and just wanted to play their own, legally owned, self-dumped (not pirated) games in a much better way, that Nintendo themselves fail to provide with the Switch. I have not caused them ANY financial loss by doing that. And yet people like me are the ones who get scr*wed the most by what Nintendo calls "fighting against piracy", to sound heroic and get supporters on their side. And to their success, most their fans don't bother to rationally think about the facts and do some research, but just eat up what Nintendo, or just as uninformed internet personalities tell them.
@@awakenedcrowl Come on... you KNOW 90% of people playing games on Yuzu are not playing their "legally owned games".. let's not be overly naive here.
Technically it’s not necessarily a “Switch 2”. It could be an entirely new kind of console
Do you really think they will stride away from a console that sold more than 140 million units?
@@geminisfl I guess we'll find out.
@@geminisfl I predict a joint eshop where all Switch games are compatible on both, some newer games are exclusive to the new system (but others will run better/smoother on the newer system, perhaps in better resolution like 1080p handheld and/or 4k docked if it has the same system of play-modes), and all games are clearly labeled with which console versions they run on like the current eshop with play mode icons, except including the new system and whatever playstyles it has. 2:27 perfect timing for the "I was on the plane"
Having announced it so early, I suspect we’ll see more information regarding the console by fall of this year. September - October, I’d wager. Then, I imagine we’ll have a full release in March or April of next year. Nintendo stated they will announce it within this fiscal year, but they didn’t mention it wouldn’t ALSO release within this fiscal year. They could certainly repeat Switch’s release window. I’m just ready to finally move on to something new. The Switch is old, and it gets harder and harder to ignore that.
2026 release nintendo has delayed it due to COVID-19 in 2020 so all games and future consoles releases got pused back 1 year so the console is to be revealed march 2025 the current console still has life till February 2025
@@adamnewman1672 it’ll likely be released 5 months after the official reveal, September 2025 at the latest
@@adamnewman1672 as of right now 1st party software support for switch ends in June 2024 so saying it has life until Feb 2025 is presumptuous/made up
The switch is old, but for me, the switch is still the best system on the market in my opinion it has an amazing vast library of games. You may like to remind people who are still relatively new to the switch like myself about how old it is and so what it’s still a fantastic system and it’s still will be when it’s successor comes out.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 I’m looking forward to what the next system will bring tbh
All I'm hoping for, literally *all* I'm hoping for, is that they put hall-effect sticks in the controller and make the WiFi antenna not suck.
People need to get their expectations in check. Furukawa has even said this is a new SWITCH MODEL. It's no different a jump in technology than the OG Switch was to the OLED model. Just minor bells and whistles to make the handheld part a bit better. It's not going to be anywhere near as powerful as even a PS4 because of the handheld limitations. Unless Nintendo wants to put out an $800 model, I don't see them able to keep up with third party games.
I just hope it's good for rooftop parties.
Also, they told everyone 8-10 year life cycle. No one listened.
They said 10, which could still be true even if the successor was released sooner, cause the switch could still get support with the new console out
@@christianr.5868 Usually yes, Nintendo supports two generations simultaneously for some time. For example, the last games for the NES were published as far as 1994, when the Super NES was already 4 years old in Japan! But I guess keeping support for the Switch untill 2027 it's too much to ask.
@@christianr.5868 point is 8 yrs is 2025. They’ll release successor in 2025, and support original for 2 yrs, 2027 and that’s 10 years
What a moment we are having right now😅 greetings from🇵🇹
Hey I am also from Portugal!
Portugal caralho!
If I remember correctly. Think they will do what they did with the switch. Where I 2016 they showed a video of what the new system is that hyped the console. Then 2017 Jan we had a presentation on how the switch worked and what it brings then they announced the price and launch. I feel they will do it again. Just don’t remember the month they dropped that vid where it stars with the guy sitting on the couch, playing Zelda
The announcement will be determined after an adequate number of consumers have bought the June and possibly September direct first-party games. So maybe at the earliest from December 26 onwards would be a good guess.
I really hope it comes out around Christmas, i graduate from university in December and currently only plan to celebrate by seeing the new Sonic movie. Getting a new console would be sweet too!
Yeah would be cool! I'd like to have the switch 2 on my final High School Year! (2025)!
Just looking into getting a switch, now I can wait
curious about the price, and if theres an OLED version
I’d be surprised and pleased if they go with OLED at launch, but I’m not expecting it. £300/$350 price tag is a reasonable expectation.
That’s assuming it’s just a more powerful switch. Nintendo has the habit of innovating hardware.
September direct feels like a nice time for information
They've gotta be careful cos not doing a Switch successor is definitely a bad move, but also not naming it so its clear this is a successor is also bad. Look at the Wii U
I feel like others said it’s this FY so March 2024 to March 2025. But given release schedule now I feel like unless they release MP4 on switch 1 alone and not a cross platform then will be this calendar year as no more games
Xmas is a good point but last one released March-17 I believe? I reckon it will be next year because it also will tie in with financial targets. I reckon fiscal year indicates March and this will tie to high financial targets in 2025 for Nintendo.
This year will be more focussed on DonkeyKong land in Japan and releasing it next year will build hype with Universal Nintendo world in Florida. A lot of Nintendo around the world will build excitement??
So a Nintendo CEO on X twitter has finally acknowledged they have a successor to switch. That is very huge. Happy ro hear this.
The main thing I care about if this is real is whether it's going to be able to hit a smooth 60 fps for games running rather sluggish on the current Switch (Zelda, its musou, etc.) - if yes, day 1 buy probably. Backwards compatibility is a must!
This has been confirmed by devs already. Runs upgraded switch software at 60fps. Whether that's true for all switch games is u known but what devs have been shown has been
@@MrSPW93 Really? That's awesome. Can you link me to where you found this?
Probably bro.
Even better tho, it will hit a smooth 60.1999888°£ fps. How about that.. how about that..
Okay, give me a break about the frame rate which hardware is old and the dips in frame rates for games like Zelda is that there’s a lot going on and it’s really pushing to switch hardware. Games like Zelda are still playable regardless of the frame rate issues and you forget the games that do run at 60 FPS on the current switch asked for the most and the issues with the current switch is more to do with developers doing too much or just plain bad porting I will defend the switch hardware. I love this system. I still think it’s the best system on the market with the best library of games and the best variety no is perfect but all I see is a lot of entitled gamers complain about the switch since when the switch is still pumping out software where are Sony and Microsoft games for 2024?
I’m just glad they finally said something so people can relax online LOL
Oh but there's no break for the made up good news / bad news cycle until it's out. Then it'll be the cycle about the Switch 2 Pro, etc.
@@mkjjoe yeah everyone just wants to be ahead of the next big piece of ooooh maybe this shiny thing news cycle. It’s honestly tiring.
I like “leaks/rumors” for the ideas of speculation. It’s nice to theory craft what could happen but man it gets out of hand so damn fast and it being something else every other day gets old quick.
Yeah I'm thinking next year to dude
The pain, the wait, it’s almost over
Could be for holiday 2025
Is Zion still in the channel? Maybe I just missed the uploads, but I haven’t seen that much of him recently
He may only work part-time.
This is the Janitor. I've finished cleaning Mr. Koizumi's office, and I found the Super Mario Odyssey 2 game we thought we lost forever. I've talked with Mr. Miyamoto, and we have plans to release it within this fiscal year. We've thrown away all of our marketing assets, so please understand advertisements will be scarce. Thank you.
Nice thanks for covering this - probably wouldn’t have clocked it either 😅
I just can't get exited anymore when nintendo announce anything because you always end waiting far longer than they tell you because they always change the realise date so I really don't think it will happen this year or next when the launch of the switch 2 happens .
IT'S HAPPENING OMG BRACE YOURSELVES
Like what some others have said, my guess is an announcement during a September/October Direct with a release March 2025
I’m really glad that the announcement is finally coming for this year and it’s about time for that.
I really hope they go the route of the new XB/PS consoles and make it faster/better and plays new games but also plays and improves the old ones.
So this mostly has to confirmed that Metriod prime 4 Will be a launch title on the new system
I could see the announcement coming in January or February 2025 and the Switch successor coming out either holiday 2025 or March 2026
Alex Olney in the morning??? What a great way to start my shift!
I hope new more powerful switch. With no exclusive games. For me, a game boy advance situation would be the best move.
The switch and any hardware, maybe except the joycons, are great. Small improvements that don’t kill the current gen would be awesome.
Being forward and backward compatible would be awesome especially with the games coming up and the current switch online situation.
probably if they do anything.. it would be next year onwards.. global manufacturing.. is tough right now
i've never understood why companys cant just say "hey yea we are working on the next console now, so far we got this"... i mean its not like we fear that nintendo or playstation or xbox will stop just beacause they arent announcing it
Did Nintendo call the NX the successor to the Wii U? If I remember correctly, they said it was going to be a third pillar of sorts for the company.
I'm betting a summer announcement and March release. Metroid as the big launch title. Handheld hardware is pretty damn good right now and a shooter is a great way to showcase hardware.
And since they just need a more powerful Switch this is an easy win for them.
like everyone else, March release seems likely. A year away from now - enough time to generate excitement for new release, plus sending off the Switch with some final releases. They will need to do a big marketing campaign for Switch 2 and I think the 'June direct' mentioned will be the final Nintendo Switch direct. Also I imagine they would have a smaller number of units in March, and ramp up for a huge number in Christmas 2025 alongside the core titles like Pokemon, a Mario game, maybe something like a Smash Bros or a Zelda remake. Then in 2026 can anticipate an Animal Crossing - once everyone has got their hands on the new console. A lot like Switch 1!
i think it could go two ways, the first way it could go is like the game boy and continue on the switch but more improved. the second is to do like the ds, have a new console but still support switch games i think that would be cool.
I think Legends Z-A is likely to be for the new console, and since that's scheduled for 2025, i'd be surprised if they didn't announce the new console later on this year (before the next legends Z-A trailer which would undoubtably feature gameplay). I reckon september/october is the safest bet!
Man screw the 21st century. We have 8-minute videos about announcements being announced.
My guess is that it's still a good ways off but this non-announcement was more to head off a leak. They may be afraid that some info about it was about to get leaked and wanted to stress to developers that it was a ways away and that they should keep developing for the Switch. Can't remember the exact systems, but Sega screwed themselves back in the day with the timing of the release of one of their systems, didn't give time to develop for the new system but also killed interest in developing for the old. Nintendo's fiscal year run April to March, so this just means we'll hear officially that there is a system in development and probably the temporary name of it by March 2025. By referring back to when they announced the Switch's existence in March 2015 (which didn't come out until March 2017) they're framing this upcoming announcement as similar in the console development timeline.
So basically, I think this was intended to calm down developers who may've heard rumors and just be like "chill, keep working on games for the Switch, our new system won't be out till probably March 2027".
Hey guys, love your videos! Please make a video of a potential game lineup for Nintendo switch 2😀
I still have the retro console "Wii U", it would be an honour if they named it "Switch U".
Only hope they don’t mess up the naming
If you translate their japanese post it says that the announcement will be this quarter and not fiscal year. Wonder what happened there
It's Google Translate's fault. The word that he used (期) can mean any period of time. It's just that Google Translate got the context wrong and assumed that it meant a quarter rather than a year.
WAIT REALLY?????? OHHHHHH that's awesome!!!!!!!
I'm just happy that its gonna be backwards compatibility. I really hope they inject more power and capability on handheld though since many people solely use switch just like that
This is definitely punting the announcement to either Winter '24 for spring '25 or Spring '25 for winter '25, most likely the latter. Honestly with the Yen so weak, I'm sure that Japan's government is pushing on their larger industries to keep investors in place with reassurance that innovation/newness is still coming.
wonder if it'll actually be a proper upgrade? Nintendo don't generally do that but the switch is so crazy popular that it would be worth their while just making a more powerful Switch instead of something you play with your feet or whatever crazy gimmick they think is a cool idea next.
so switch 2 in 2025? makes sense marios anniversary in 2025, pokemons anniversary in 2026, kirby anniversary in 2027 so its pretty good timing
Doesn't every franchise have an anniversary every year?
They don't make full line ups based on anniversaries.
Mario was first released in 83 so you want them to release a game for the 42nd anniversary?
@@greenhill004it was released in North America in 1985 maybe that's what they mean?
Time for the Swiitch to make a comeback
How ???? It's always on 🔥 just because it had a gap in games for now doesn't mean they fell off lol
It's like one of best selling consoles ever.
Swiitch?
It's been a lovely and amazing journey with switch ❤
Must be a reason that prompted this announcement. This is not a normal move for Nintendo. Maybe they are aware of a leak and they're getting out ahead of it?
It's because of their financial planning. They need to explain to investors why they expect a big increase in profits in 2025 and that would almost certainly get leaked so they might as well tell everyone publicly.
What strikes me the most is the announcement of a June direct... that is such a so no-nintendo thing to do!
I never thought I'd be this excited about an announcement for an announcement but here we are.
I’ve been figuring they’re looking at another March release date for next year, because I think they’re trying to break the record for most consoles sold of all time and trying to get the most out of the switch before they finally retire it.
As long as the switch 2 or whatever its named takes switch games and allows you to port games over then I’m cool with it.
Typically they make things backwards compatible so the DS and DS lite could take GBA games and the Wii could take GC… so I imagine yes?
However if they say you can’t port digital games or play physical games then I think it possibly could be a Wii U situation
Alright, it’s finally time to complete my switch games
I think they'll probably do something similar because this is their most profitable era ever and I know they are mainly focused on the money. But, you never know,
I pre-ordered Wii U and used it a lot. I thought it was great even though it was flop. It just needed to be much more powerful and marketed much better. Switch comes from idea Wiii U having tablet element. It had some influence.
3:39 , you guys are way off, they already said no Switch 2 during the June direct
They were already talking about backwards compatibility so they aren’t going to do anything that crazy out of the box it will most likely just be a literal Switch 2 with a 4k upgrade maybe even bigger screen.
Exciting! Hope it’s backwards compatible.
Certainly for eShop purchases. The future of physical copies is uncertain.
Praying to god that the eshop actually has music

It will be similar to the format used when revealing and releasing the Switch. (October reveal- ->March release)
But this time they do one better and shift it away from x-mas and have the reveal in January, then release it in April.🤓
Why tease it before the biggest shopping holiday of the year and not make it available then?🤪
The other thing:
Will Nintendo reiterate on the Switch or really innovate?
Based on how the Wii - WiiU transition went, I can imagine that if Nintendo reiterates, they must be incredibly nervous that the average consumer will think it’s just another upgrade with a bigger screen etc. and not buy it…😬
I'm sure that Nintendo are going to want one more Christmas out of the Switch, and an announcement beforehand would surely damage sales.
I want Nintendo to give us a nice strong final hurrah for the Switch, even if that means some remasters, and then announce a fully backwards compatible successor in early 2025. 🤞🏻
It's about time! I just bought a Switch this week!
Honestly, this is what I expected: reveal at the end of the Japanese fiscal year, so in March 2025.
I think the announcement of the WiiU in 2012 also was in march. To release in october / november.
And this announcement? When software is delayed, they can move it to the next console. At least everyone knows its coming now.
