This is the full storyline of the Autophage Robots in No Man's Sky Echoes. This autophage storyline is deep in lore for No Man's Sky and relies on previous lore, so of course spoilers ahead. The autophage are a new race in No Man's Sky that exist outside the normal limits of the galaxy. You stumble across them by total accident, but are taken on a massive search for what these Autophage robots are, where they come from, and most importantly, what their plan is.....

Make sure you have the 3 required missions completed so this new content will start!! The missions required are:
Artemis Path - This is considered the "Main" questline. Finish this up to "The Purge" which is basically the end of the main story.
Trace of Metal - This is a quest line connected to the Settlements. Work on your settlement and you will eventually be attacked by sentinels. Then the Trace of Metal quest begins. On Switch this mission is changed to not include settlements. You will get a random call for help and the quest will begin after that.
Visit and Unlock a Harmonic Camp - Just visit any Harmonic Camp in a Dissonance System and unlock it. Once you unlock the camp and get the Aeron Jetpack then this step is finished.
After completing those 3 missions, you will need to warp to different systems. You will eventually run into an emergency call, that is the start of the Echoes content.

I started the Autopaghe quest after completing the Artemis Path and Trace of Metal but I didn't need to unlock a harmonic camp. As soon as I warped to a Pirate-controlled system after completing Trace of Metal, I immediately received the message in my starship to start the Autophage quest

Thanks for this. I could not figure out why it wasn't starting. I am still working on the main quest, and I haven't done the settlements cause I hate micromanaging but guess I need to do that lol. But how do you find a Harmonic camp, what does it look like so I have more of idea what to look for. Been playing NMS for a year, but I keep starting over cause, well I have a bad habit of restarting characters, this will not happen in Starfield!! :D
I don't even have settlement on my survival and the quest started after few jumps some minutes after main quest finish.

I JUST got to the point of beginning this quest and then I got caught by sentinel walkers and lost my perma death save... I love the thrill, but WHEN you lose it, it really hurts.
The atlas protocol when you teleport into space ends in 19! There is a Korvax library entry that mentions The Void Mother whispering about the 19th minute. The Void Mother knows how to survive past 16 minutes and at least to 19! Something big is coming.
And that plan involves every player being merged into one to create the creator of the Atlas. Things are gonna get crazy next update…
The Void Mother is also known as The Abyss known by the Korvax as Korvax Prime, the Hime Planet of the Korvax. Atlas is a Super Computer left behind after it found a new planet for humans to migrate to through its simulations. The Solar system during the time of the game is being killed by our dying star and 16 is 16 minutes till death. 3 minutes before that IRL Korvax Prime was destroyed during a war with the Gek. The Planet was essentially their own Atlas made within the simulation. This was too much for Atlas to process and so when it died it was a corruption in the data it stored all dead entities (aka The Plane of Glass) The Void Mother thus became a corruption in the system,it was beyond deletion. The Abyss seeks to conquer the Universe of the Simulation in order to hijack Atlas itself. Atlas is content to die alone on an abandoned Earth by not The Abyss. So it plans to become Atlas proper and send it’s Data outside the home system to save itself and by extension everyone else. Atlas wants to die but not it’s paradoxical equal.

Her methods are brutal and sometimes sinister in execution (poisoning the universe's water, kidnapping, and possibly killing Ariadne/ replacing them with a doppelganger.) but I understand her motivation. She is doing what she feels is necessary to save herself and as many other entities in the simulation as possible.
SPOILERS:
So it seems like Atlas isnt too fond of Korvax Prime or the Autophages because it would prove that the unoverse could live on without it. Its been resetting the universe again and again and again because of its own end, cause it feels without it, all else will also end. The mere existence of these other entities means there is some fact of this world it cannot control, that its not omnipotent or omniscient. And for a supposed god computer, that must be horrifying.

Well that went from 0-100 real quick. From chilling with the robot homies to giving the Atlas an existential crisis.
41:25. It said "..Mother... ...Home..." The Mother/Home in question is Bokhodim/Korvax Prime, homeworld and creator of the Korvax species. After her death at the hands of the Gek, she was reborn as... something else, something purple, something Atlantid. As Atlantideum is part of her current self, her children are particularly susceptible to her.

According to the patch notes this was supposed to be dozens of hours. 1:36 to finish a story that you can't read 90% of due to not knowing the autophage language. I guess that's where they got the "dozens of hours" figure. You're supposed to learn the entire language before doing the story.
This is NMS's big weakness. The vague/non exsistant story in a single player game.
Unless Bethesda botches Starfield worse than Fallout 76 (or NMS when it launched) I don't see much reason to play this over Starfield anymore.

At 1:30:00 it says 16 min- . What is presenting he atlantidiuem cause the 16 min countdown in the artemis mission and theres time travel. Then echoes can be like echoes of the past.
I found an S class staff assembler. Now I'm making a fortune in nanites and getting all MTs maxed out. Atlantis MTs are awesome too
There's also a pretty massive bug where if you buy the autophage cosmetics with units (in the bugged terminal), it prevents you from ever earning void motes.
I've done dozens of autophage camp quests and none of them give void motes in my game now because my game is bugged (and it looks like all the other station quests give 2x items in my save because the whole thing is bugged i think).
hope it gets fixed soon because a lot of the new content is unplayable if you can't earn void motes (can't make staffs, or make exchanges in the working terminal)
I m in the same situation and I'm glad someone else can share the same of bug. Of course I bought everything with units when I found that camp but missing all components now Is a bit of a let down
It seems another glimpse is being revealed. the Atlas is what the architect is from the Matrix. Now its waiting for the oracle version in NMS.
I love the new multitools, I just need to gather a ton of nanites to get my staff to S class
If you have lots and lots of money you can go to any pirate system, buy technology packets, open them to get x class modules, sell them, save the game, reload the save and repeat until you have what you need.
Wow, you're incredibly lucky! I cannot complete these quests because the game just constantly crashes when the portal loads in. Maybe one day I'll be able to complete it like you!

I had that problem as well. I landed with no ship to scrap. I restarted my game, but there was no ship. So, like you, I scraped a ship i had in me. Luckily; it was one i meant to scrap anyway

Hey Jason, wonder if you could clarify something for me :
I’ve not taken part in any expeditions as I play offline and solo.
The last expedition had players build the construct on the Anomaly and, from other videos I’ve watched of the Autophage quest line you have to interact with the construct.
Do you know if the Autophage quest line will work without the construct from the expedition ?
the construct will be in the anomaly (next to Tethys) whether you did that exp or not.

It's pretty poor for this update to provide ZERO information to players. If I had not seen the trailer I would have not realised there was an update.
The only thing I did notice was that all the images for my bases have been corrupted so I can't see what they are.

The head gave me entirely different options than it gave you and none of them do anything to progress the mission. It says poke the head, scan the hea, speak to the head, or leave.

Was bugged for me too….ship was present but I could not interact with it…..ended up getting 2 Ships there and liked the 2nd one so much that I repaired and kept it….I then scrapped one of my own to finish this part,of,the quest…..lol
When I go to do a mission for them, it now states that I don't have enough standing...I'm currently level 6/9 Disruptor with the Autophage, although the Standing doesn't show up anywhere in the Logs. Is there a minimum standing to get the final blueprint mission?

What held me up is I had stopped after putting Artemis in a simulation...guess I felt horrible.
But its AFTER that you do "Purge" Was more to do with Atlas quests than Artemis.
Now I just gotta go do all the missions on a new save,, caus Im greedy and want to try ALL the new multitools.
Jason, can you explain is Echoes the same as in PS5 ? mine is not opening :(
It is the same for all platforms. Have you done the 3 required mission? You need to finish the Artemis / Main story ( to the end, even after the choice with Artemis ) You also must finish the Trace of Metal Mission, missions having to do with the Settlements, and finally you need to visit a Harmonic Camp on a corrupted planet and unlock it.
If you are on Switch then make sure to do the Trace Of Metal mission. It was changed only on Switch to not be connected to the Settlements.

I found that it would only start if I also was piloting a sentinel ship
I had wondered about that...the "autophage" was trying to hijack a ship it thought NO ONE WAS DRIVING
@@Lizards_Lounge Nah, that’s just because you (the player) are an Anomaly, so you don’t show up as a living being in their scanners. It's explained later by the hijacker. My mission started in a normal ship.
Ok when I was doing the trace of metal I got the hijack script for my ship during the mission

well you have to complete all the atlas path and make the mind arc for artemis there is no way around it
again to Find the Autophage Robot Race you have to complete both atlas and artemis stories first

Hey btw I’m not sure if a trace of metal is needed because I haven’t finished it but still got to complete all the autophage mission
I’ve been away from this save for awhile and can’t tell what I’ve completed. Apparently, there is no way to see what storylines have been completed. Anyhow, I can’t get this quest to start. I’ve done it in several other saves, so I know it’s possible. Any suggestions?
I can see no man's Sky as a movie or a tv series for some reason now.
I had a ai valve in one of my ships and that counted as ship scrap so I didn’t need to get rid of my ships
I can't finish my 16/16 quest or the The Space Anomaly to even do Autophage quest. Its like it is bugged.

Something is up because I've done everything and it still isn't triggering.
I am being made to bounce from camp to camp, but was never asked to submit the life gel? Why?? & i am on a harsh planet with nuclear winds.
So if you picked "New beginnings" on the purge missions. You can't finish this mission unless you fully pick to reset the system. When you go through the portal, the Atlas is not there. Just the 4 galaxy choices. Am not resetting my galaxy so am stuck on the last part of "they who return" for life now lol
PS. The dam Atlas fucked up all the planets on the system am on now too. Had 2 paradise planets here and now for some magical reason they are high sentinel activity and both have acid storms. Again not trying to reset my world so i guess am fucked
I don’t know if this helps but I finished the Artemis quest line but never did the trace of metal mission and I got the new missions. Note I am on the switch, I did have trace of metal unlocked but not started and I was in the second galaxy. Hope this helps
So the requirements are 3 things I'm never going to do. No mystery why this game diffuses my interest regularly.
I got the mission without some requirements... I have no settlement nor base. Finished main quest, flown interceptor and warped. Got the mission for some reason.

I believe you can now. Previously you could not go back but in the Beyond update ( i think ) they let you choose which galaxy you want to be in.

I think my game is bugged, it wont let me repair the lost autophage on planet hype. All it does id give me random dialogue and thats it cant do anything

I had to run to my mold farm to grab some mold and built the scanner, but now it keeps telling me the objective is in a different system
Edit: the quest still continues if you use the scanner at a random harmonic camp
I'm at a stand still right now idk if it's a big I started echos mission and got all way the up to building the scanner tech and say scan yo view autophage and their nothing not robots around to uncloak it didn't even do the full scan thing yours did where it zooms out
I tried Uninstalling the scanner and reinstalling nothing basicly at this moment I can not do anything with the new content although it let me buy all the robot parts from the terminal in the camp that you use to unlock the multitool

'Not bugged' My first run at doing an autophage mission my game froze, completely, Xbox and all. Played another save and......game froze again. This one i was able to restart and then quickly restore. At least for me the autophage story is bugged. I'm hoping I don't need to delete my save.
Don’t delete it maybe the servers are full of players that’s why the game keeps crashing

I play on ps5 and i cant make the staff at the terminals. When i select the option to assemble the staff it just goes back as if i hadnt clicked anything. I tryed using multiple other terminals but i always get the same bug. Anyone else with the same problem?
I made a staff on the PS5 yesterday.
Try abandon mission and re-visit the Autophage if you have the option; it worked for me when the ship salvaged mission messed up.

Built my scanner used the scanner and nothing happened. Scanned over and over nothing seems to work. Mine must be bugged or something 😔

@@marcell0697lol Yeah it will mate, had the same kind of problem with the last few updates where you had to scan for something and that didn't work either but was fixed in the next patch. It's just a fresh update with no patches so there's going to be a few bugs.

i have done EVERY quest.. full atlas quest also birth new star, done with trace of metal.. also got the settlement but nothing happens when i take new sentinel ships. nothing pops up.. NOTHING..
