Did I Get The Shaft? | LTT Screwdriver First Look And Unboxing

- In this video I take a look at the LTTStore.com screwdriver - it comes VERY well reviewed by influencers, product testers and even the general public. This is a first-look video because it is impossible to test a tool in the same day as the unboxing but we take a look at Linus and the team's claims.

When unscrewing things, I usually hold the screwdriver closer to the shaft, use the handle and ratchet to loosen the screw, and then use the knurling to take it the rest of the way out, much faster and the screw comes fully out that way, and still one-handed.
It's obviously a well-designed and machined bit of kit. I just can't do the ratcheting screwdriver. I feel that so many times I'm in an awkward position and I go to use the tool.... and it's geared for the other direction. That alone outweighs the benefits for me. Super cool that they exist and that people love them. Thanks for the video. This is the first review of it that I've watched.
I'm not a hater or a fan of LTT, but as a tool enthusiast / collector, I bought one of the LTT ratcheting screwdrivers. I have to say the rstchet components are really great and work very smooth with little back drag. I still prefer the Wera ratcheting screwdriver, but this one really holds up.
I've never really liked the diameter of that type of screwdriver. Love a decent ratched mechanism though.
I agree, my expectations were very high for the backforce. It's great, just not the miracle they made it sound like it should be.
I got the Noctua version, and was given the choice which to get, beige with brown accents or brown with beige accents. I chose beige cause I like it more, and was thinking it's a tool. It will get dirty. Stop obsessing...
The friction may get a bit easier with a bit of time.
Sounds good. Not really something for me though
Would a PZ1 bit have fitted those screws better? I often find the difference between PZ and PH is miniscule, and sometimes it's just a case of trial and error to find the bit that fits the screw the best. No idea why there are 2 standards that are almost precisely the same, but not quite same enough! Must say that my go-to screwdriver is the sort you get from Poundland in the UK, the type that Big Clive uses. The bits are made of cheese, but you can just buy a replacement every couple of months 😀
You spend a lot of time complaining about the back drag. Project farm did a direct comparison with 13 other competing ratcheting drivers and the LTT driver was by far the lowest of all tested. It didn't win every category, but it handily won that one. I agree with the drag on the bit storage feeling gritty - mine is the same way... but it is not a magnetic closure. I guess, I never opened it slow enough to notice before you mentioned it.
Well I spend a LOT of time listening to the WAN show - I just think the backforce was overstated. I don't think they did a bad job - in fact I do conclude that in practice it works great. I also cite the Project Farm video right off the bat. Are you sure it isn't a magnetic closure? It definitely has something to hold it closed - feels very magnetic to me
@@SimpleElectronics Linus specifically states on the WAN show that it is not a magnetic enclosure. I think it is an over center mechanism. It is the part of the mega-pro that they licensed outright, btw. the ratchet from the megapro they modified.
I just don't know how much less back force you can expect to have if it is less than any other driver available - like the next closest one in Project Farm's testing was 50% more back drag 9.1grams vs 13.9grams... then 19.5grams for 3rd place. compared to a Klein or snap-on - it's night and day. It's like telling Michael Phelps... "yeah, but you didn't win 25 gold medals, so..."
There's lot's to fairly ding the thing for, and you hit on several of them, but the back drag is just not it.
Does this also have torque control? If not, I've been using a comparable Kobalt ratcheting screwdriver (~$45) for the past like 10 years, and it works like the day I bought it. The Kobalt screwdriver is quite heavy (unsure of exact weight), so it may give you hand fatigue if you are doing lots of smaller work. I enjoy the weight for my projects personally.
No torque control!
Can you please explain what the added value of the ratcheting part of the screwdriver is?
Can't you do the exact same thing with a non-ratcheting screwdriver that's a lot lighter?
@@Okurka. One hand operation is the big one in my trade - can be done without it but a LOT easier with it
@@SimpleElectronics How clumsy are you?
@@Okurka. I don't think you have the right to call me clumsy until you have removed modules from under a dash while hanging up-side-down, supporting your self with one hand by the steering wheel. If this driver isn't for you, it isn't for you. Move on, please.
I'm impressed with the video quality. The audio could do with a bit more bass though.

Why would I delete it!?
@@SimpleElectronics I can't remember why I wrote that, but there was a reason. 🤔
Don’t worry. TH-cam will delete it
@@jw200 That's true. I've had a few perfectly harmless comments deleted lately off other channels.
I choke up on the shaft every time 😭😭
It's very long though 😭
