I have been waiting for this one for ages & ordered it right away. I wish a game changer like this was a permanent production piece. It seems like something that needs to be in as many hands as possible.
:D Thank you James - keep us posted on the feedback as soon as it is received, the piston will be a permanent production, its just the carbon version that is limited to 500 in black / the pen is designed to accommodate some interesting materials which we cant wait to get our feedback from the carbon series and to explore in the next versions of this model :D
Thanks Emy! I was using the pocket carbon today and still can’t get over how good that is. I am a gravitas fanboy, yes. I just liking having something different, unique.
What an amazing video. The products are top notch. The designs amazing…the materials Ben uses and the filling mechanisms are so innovative and unique in the pen world! The production style of the videos are top notch and the banter between you both is entertaining, incredibly pleasant and soothing to listen to…and informative. Just ordered several Dinkeys and Pocket Pens in various premium materials and will be getting that Zirconium Pocket Pen once it’s available! Emy’s customer service is first rate. He is responsive and so patient with my multiple questions regarding all the products…alleviating any concerns. The Carbon Fiber piston looks exquisite. Keep it up!
:D so happy to hear being so well received - we strive to offer a better quality all the time with our content :D I think the Dinkeys are received and they are enjoyed at this moment :D We are working on some great things soon to be released
I usually machine a flat into my pens, some designs don’t allow for that as I’m working to very tight tolerances… I’m pushing the limited of the ultem, there’s not enough material to add a protrusion or machine a flat.
Oh wow the Zirconium Pocket Pen is looking so great. I love my quark - I will admit I will miss the ding on the pocket but I don't think its going to stop me from picking one up. thanks for the video
For the Q&A it would be great to discuss exotic materials like Zircuti and Murcuti and Mokune and the different techniques used to create different finishes! Also, any other exotic metals out there you are looking into!
Lovely to see boundaries being pushed. This is probably just my personal preference, but I'd love to see Ben's take on a Japanese Eyedropper pen, especially in the pocket pen segment. Currently, only Opus 88 does anything in that space, but they also have their own particular designs and quirks which aren't always what I'm after. Hope you're both doing well!
And yes, zirconium is used for fuel rod cladding (it's very "transparent" to thermal neutrons coming out of the fuel and into it from neighbouring rods). It's also used quite a bit in implants (it's corrosion resistant and non-allergenic).
Any chance will offer titanium nibs or your in house nibs on the pocket models (Dinkey too) in 2025? I usually replace the steel nibs on my pens but will say the blackened steel nib on the carbon fiber pocket is wonderful (perhaps same will hold true for this #8 size nib). Dunno what other materials are available to use on the dinkeys but please continue to innovate. Perhaps a soapstone Dinkey?
In the video about the carbon fiber pocket pen, you suggested not making it an eye-dropper because some part of the ink might "leak" through the wall. How do you prevent such "leakage" in the piston-filler? Is the barrel lined with something?
A general material question: We have seen quite a few pens made of micarta from different brands. How come you never see a pen made of G10 ?(also common for knifehandles like micarta) Would it not work of some reason? I love the texture some G10 can provide would be cool to have a pen in that material.
I visited the Gravitas homepage, and while it looked nice, I noticed there was no information about the pen's length-capped, uncapped, or posted. This is basic information that matters when choosing a pen. Additionally, there weren’t enough photos to give a clear idea of the pen's design and proportions. Am I missing something? You might want to take a page from the Goulet Company’s approach to detailed product listings.
There is a size chart page in works - for the Piston Carbon the size is 150 mm capped / 170 mm posted / 140 mm body length (nib to piston knob) - The video is showcasing a Piston next to a sentry and a pocket this is proportion. We will strive to put our own spin on any take pages
very nice pen emi and ben...had the worse experience when buying from gravitas 2 years ago and ben did finally refund me months after i bought the pen and paid eur20 extra just for shipping and 3 months later still hadnt arrive. so he was an honourable man in that regard. glad to see him do better he deserves it based on the many reviews of his pens. he is very talented and knows his stuff. even though you are aiming for wealthier audience lately with the kakari and now with this. eur450 is a bit pricy for a steel nib lets face it. but i understand its business and he's exploring new territories and clients. for that i admire him.
We offer a diverse lineup of pens, from the quark all the way up to the Kakari. We are not targeting a wealthy audience, we have pens at different price ranges for a variety of clients.
we dont aim for specific segments of customers - the whole deal is that in order to offer the quality services and to establish Gravitas as a brand, it will take a new approach in pricing - a 10% average increase in pricing after 4+ years since the company is retailing its products its not even covering the inflation but it can cover some of the cost and expenses of an employee that is working to pack and fulfil orders in a timespan of 24h since placing. Growing the company and brining a better customer support comes with a team that needs to be hired, trained and sustained - that is the aim
I have not checked with a majong/moon something nib because we dont have any of those - looks to be similar to Fifty4T, minus the color and a stiffer feel
"Uncut!" would have been a nice addition to the title 😁 Don't get me wrong, 2025 starting strong! But since I'm all into Sentrys (you know me!), you shouldn't have shown this gorgeous black/red one - such a mean tease 😅 Other Qs besides future Sentrys for your Q&A: Will those #8 nibs be available seperately and would they be compatible to the Titanium section Ben once offered for the Sentry/Big Dropper to run Jinhao #8 nibs? Will there be a #8 Legacy Nib as well? Anyway, thank you!
nope - the section has nothing to do with the sentry - at least looking at them in front of me because sentry is thinner being for a size 6 nib unit - and the piston is more chunkier and longer - made for a size 8 nib
Without a clip it is perfect, don’t bother. Maybe, MAYBE, in the future you could make an attachable clip option designed for this pen, to purchase separately, similar to those from Kaweco, for those people who might want to purchase a clip separately.

Wow - love the new materials and you guys chatting!
:D exciting materials - exciting times Scott :D
Looks clean, would love to see a variant of the Kyuseido with this material
You would need to speak with the owner of Kyuseido to request that. Cy of Tokyo station pens
@benwalsh9257 is that a legit option? Didn't know custom requests were on the table 😮
its not an option for Ben to decide but the question was addressed in the latest Q&A vid

I personally believe Gravitas pens look so much better without clips.
:D you wouldn't be wrong - we just nag about the clip knowing Ben is so not into them
Hi, more than a clip, would be interesting to have a "stopper" to prevent the pen from rolling (a protrusion, a little facet, you name it). Thanks

:D we had to choose - a flawless look on an rather pricey zirconium pocket or the zing - we sided with it being good looking and rather silent :))
For the Q&A it would be great to discuss exotic materials like Zircuti and Murcuti and Mokune and the different techniques used to create different finishes! Also, any other exotic metals out there you are looking into!
we did :D check the Q&A vid
@ I just watched! Thanks for responding!
Excellent video and I don’t like clips on pens so I am so happy to hear … 👏
Thank you Anjum - noted NO to clips :D

Would be neat to have a red accent version of the Piston Carbon Black to match the pocket pultruded :)
Also, i had the pocket soak up ink (don't ask, cleaning mishap) and it absolutely does clean up well with just water (lots of it).
And yes, zirconium is used for fuel rod cladding (it's very "transparent" to thermal neutrons coming out of the fuel and into it from neighbouring rods). It's also used quite a bit in implants (it's corrosion resistant and non-allergenic).
We quite literally cleared japan out of red ebonite … 😏
:D the question was address in the latest Q&A vid
Any chance the pocket pultruded carbon will get a delrin cap liner upgrade?

Nice pen, congratulations!
Thank you! Cheers! :D
A beautiful design! I shouldn’t buy another pen but….
- you and us both ... got one of each

:D the barrel is lined and the piston is gliding without touching the inner walls of the carbon - its inside a lining
I would be down if this wasn't a limited batch, hopefully there's another run when i have some money set aside
There’s another version of it that will be released in about 8 weeks. So don’t worry, there’s going to be more

:D the G10 pen - its amazing - we've seen it
Any plans for a black timascus (zirconium+ti) pen?
Yes 😏
@@benwalsh9257 Ooo! Can't wait!
Ben, I think you could design an amazing pen with a clip. And if it has to be limited and expensive, maybe put it up in the members‘ area?
I don’t want to make a pen with a clip, many other brands have clips and they fill the void

Legend says Emy will soon challenge Hollywood productions by adding 2-3 more camera angles to his videos. Hollywood is already on a losing path
:)) we've upgraded to a new camera so lets see what we can do with it ...
The Piston Carbon Black looks good. What is the diameter of the thinnest place of the section?
:D thank you - if you open the specifications on the gravitas website you can find it : 11.5mm to 13.6 mm for the grip :D
No cut. LOL😆
Looks like I'll be placing another PV order soon.🤦♂
no cut :)) ...Ben didn't see that coming

I have them, but they scratch most pens to slide them on. So a customer must do it at their own risk!
@ I think I phrased my idea not so well. I corrected my comment now.
