Sorry, i have stage fright. I took drama for 3 years and auditioned for NBC for a sitcom when i was in high school. Asians weren't in high demand as they are now .
Another entertaining classic, thanks Bob! Btw, did the seat riser trick from your prior video and it is an amazing difference in comfort. Keep up the great tips and laughs.
Recently just did this due to this issue. It was a combination issue, old caliper with a seized piston that warped the rotors. If you're at 120k+ miles I would replace calipers and bleed the brakes as well as new rotors/pads.
My favorite "GX how to" video on youtube with some really good GX related humor (thrown in gratis) - GX Bob should be on the stage and yes, it leaves in 15 minutes.
The GX460 I bought came from Connecticut but the frame is not that rusty at all. It was "Toyota Car Care Nut" Approved as I was telling you because I took it to his shop. The dealership I bought it from here in St. Louis MO had to replace a caliper because it was starting to seize up and stick causing to come out of alignment right after it would get aligned. It was probably from all that snow and salt they get up there and the previous owner not spraying down the wheels enough after driving in the winter. They put on new calipers on both sides in the front. They did rotors and pads too. I notice though my brakes pulsate randomly but I think this is normal on most all GX460's right?? The Car Care Nut said it was. It was one of the main things on my list that I wanted checked out.
I am not going to debate The Car Care Nut. He's my idol. Let him know i said that and i want his autograph. But..........the pulsating is also due to Lexus designing rotors that are way too small for the stopping power of the size of a GX. Hence why i upgraded to cross drilled and slotted rotors all the way around. Pulsating is completely gone. I"m happy.
@GXBOB I agree the brakes are too small on all these GX460's. The random pedal buzzing/vibrating I'm talking about can be felt at random when pumping the brakes while it is in park. It's the Unique Hydraulic Accuator Braking System that the GX, LS, and all Lexus Hybrid vehicles have. I would think the LX Has them too but am not 100% positive on that. TCCN said it's completely normal and it's because of what I just explained. That is why I thought something was wrong initially because I've never felt it in any other vehicle I have ever owned or driven. When you research it in the forums it will have the guys talking about having warped rotors probably while feeling that buzzing/vibrating I just explained too. My Dealer put on new Pads all around, new rotors and calipers in front as well when I bought it last February. I went to TCCN in late May. My appt was the day after Memorial Day on that Tuesday. I knew before I got there it wasn't my rotors, pads, calipers etc. I thought it was a faulty ABS sensor or something. When I do brakes next I will get bigger rotors for sure but I doubt I will do cross drilled and or slotted because I don't really like the feeling of the grab. I had some on my first Lexus IS250 and was not a fan of them but maybe it was just the brand. On higher end sports cars you need it if your driving it how it was made to be driven. I can't remember the brand though. What brand rotors and pads did you go with?? Actually right now I am looking at buying some wheels for next spring. They are the Vision Riot but all these wheel websites say they don't fit the GX460 but I know they have to. Another vision wheel with the Exact Same Specs says it fits. They are 6x139.7 Vision Riot in Chrome with the 20x9 size. Offset, backspacing etc is all compatible with the GX. I will call a wheel expert to hopefully get a legit answer before I actually order them. I won't be using them on the vehicle in the winter here in Missouri though because we get a small - decent amount of snow every year still. I know of course I will have to massage to push in the plastic in the wheel wells with a heat gun. I think I'm going with a 275/55r20 or 285/55r20 Tires. Aesthetically speaking any GX460 looks way way better with especially wider wheels/tires They are 7.5" wide and that's just too anemic for me. That's what size wheels were on the front of my little 98 BMW 328i Convertible. I had M3 wheels on it at that and the rears were even 8.5" wide. That car isn't super small but it's very small compared to this truck. If you have someone drive your GX460 Somewhere and follow them you will see how thin this factory setup looks.......A wider tire on these wheels is better but I want wider and a little bigger too. You don't need a wider wheel on these because it's all time 4wd especially offroad. However it will probably handle a little better on road. The KDSS does a good job for both but still. A 22" looks good but the tire sidewall has to be too small and these don't have enough power or torque to push 22" wheels. The Vision Riot 20x9 weighs 32.5lbs a peice. That's only a half pound more than these factory 18's weigh. It's more rolling mass but that's it. Not much extra weight at all. Lastly, Do you know if that DR. KDSS website will ever restock any of it's products?? I'm assuming that has to do with what TCCN was telling me about alot of shops/dealerships and what not not being able to service the KDSS right now. I guess they can't get the new tools and or parts from Japan or something.
My experience on many different Toyota models that rotor warp is due to rotating tires and not using the proper torqueb on the lug nuts. Seriously I've had many rotors warped by ex-convicts working for tire shops that just hammer on the lug nuts
I just replaced my pads and rotors (all 4) less than 10K miles ago and the pulsating has returned. Smh. I think I'll try crossed and drilled maybe even Cryo calipers and premium pads. Really hoping im not just throwing money at a much larger problem. How is it going so far?
So far so good! I am currently producing a crossdrilled slotted rotor replacement video. The only reason why you see the rotors on my truck now is because i went back and forth on multiple projects instead of seeing one go from start to finish. Thanks for the comment.
Part number for the lime green item on the table, please. The Lexus parts dept lady acted like they were closing up when I tried to describe it. It was 11am!
Agree with replacing that cheap hardware. What I believe happening when the wear is uneven is that pad makes the contact with rotor (there is no such rust that stops 4 piston caliper on GX460) but it would not disengage from the rotor when you release brake pedal and will keep wearing out pad and generate heat. Then all it takes is to run over a puddle of water to get rapid cooling and bam the rotor is done. I did replace pads without replacing rotors many times. All you have to care about is that it stays above min thickness. If you have no vibrations and rotor is above min thickness do not replace it. And one more thing - you better dont put any grease if you dont have high temperature grease like graphite. It will fry over there and can get stuff seized up.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Both have different pros and cons. For myself, i noticed i once i went to a GX, i can't go back to a car. The height of the vehicle while entering and exiting is one of the perks that i've grown used to. The height of the cargo area is a plus so i don't have to bend over to put this in the trunk. Also, i feel way more confident with the GX when i go do outdoorsy stuff. I won't take a Camry to the mountains especially during the winter. The camry did soup itself up to look pretty sporty but they will never get away with its reputation of being a boring old dinosaur. The vehicle you drive tells a lot about the owner. Are you badass or are you bland and safe in life?
